Viewpoint What makes you nope out of a search thread?

On that subject and moving on to less controversal but slightly related things: Canon characters. I don't want to play them. I don't want to play with someone who plays them. I highly doubt either of us can do them justice (I think I make a wonderful Tony Stark, though). Ijust can't.

Tbh I massively screw up every canon character I play as so I should probably take this advice

The only characters I like playing as that are canon are: Link, Kirby, Iron Man aka Tony Stark, and the Team Rocket Trio.

My only consistent canon muse is Giffany. Somehow I turned her from a yandere to this. My friends like her this way but sometimes I feel guilty tbhScreenshot_2019-04-01-11-55-08.png

This drives me freaking insane. I loathe it. If someone wants to create some sort of AU in which a character is trans and then explore how they’d deal with that and how the world around them would react to that, then hey, that’s fine. Not my type of thing at all, but whatever. At least it’s not completely idiotic like actually trying to say that the canonical version of Izuku is trans.
Just no. Stop.
I’ve seen this for other fandoms too - “oh i headcanon that this character is gay and trans and nonbinary!!!” and it’s like... where? Where do you see even the slightest hint of that? It’s ridiculous.
I’m gonna be honest, I’m guilty of headcanoning that Bakugo could be gay, but that’s the thing- it’s just a headcanon. I don’t talk about it obsessively, nor do I tout it as fact (looking at you, Tumblr snowflakes who claim things like “[insert character] is gay and trans sorry I don’t make the rules uwuwuwuwu”), nor does it have anything to do with my own identity/sexuality/whatever. For me, it’s all in good fun because I acknowledge the absurdity of the actual canon Bakugo being gay. Other people, though, are serious about it, and that’s where I draw the line.

I'm guilty, too. I've headcanoned that Giffany is pansexual. It's really only a fun little thought based on her status as a dating simulator character that I don't put much stock into. (Especially seeing as she's in a heterosexual relationship canonically)

It’s pretty annoying.
I feel like some people are really quick to hop onto the headcanon that certain characters are trans. If a guy shows even the slightest “”feminine”” traits, then some of the fans are like, “He’S a TrAnS GuY! HE uSed tO Be fEmALe!!”
And honestly... isn’t that insulting? Isn’t that putting people into a stereotypical little box? Apparently guys can’t have any supposedly effeminate traits, because then that means that they actually WERE female at some point.
That seems really narrow-minded to me. Let people have their personalities without immediately thinking they’re trans or something just for showing traits that some people might say are abnormal for their gender.

That got a bit off topic... but yeah, if someone acts like that type of person in their search thread, I’m abandoning ship ASAP.

I would say if anyone just randomly capitalizes letters they're trolling. Like I realize that's off topic but I see people use that style routinely when they're just being contrary little shits.

For me with headcanons I actually prefer minor changes that keep the personality in tack. Like maybe the character has a slightly different backstory, or sure a different gender or sexuality. A minor change that doesn't really affect the personality but makes the character stand out from the canon.

Because what makes me nope out is when people basically want to re-create canon exactly only with their OC shoved in. So like they basically replace a canon character with their OC then want to rewrite/copy the scenes of the original work.

Or worse when they have a Canon x OC pairing and expect the canons entire personality and character arc to be butchered beyond recognition so that they can get into OCs pants.

I take it you've met the Harry Potter fandom?

I actually came here from a HP RP site. I became really isolated because people started hating me for not buying into that sort of crap.

Lol, no, the people who say that kind of stuff don't randomly capitalize letters. That's just me... kinda...... poking fun at them.
Which isn't too nice of me oops. sorry

I agree with what you've said though. Creating RPs solely for people to ship their OC with a canon character is something I hate. It's fine if people want to do that kind of stuff. I understand having different tastes. But I can't stand it, so I'll leave any search thread like that.
Personally, I prefer to RP canon characters and not OCs, though that's because I care a lot about the canon characters already, and I don't care about other people's OCs or my own. If I wanted to do a strictly OC RP, then I'd rather it be original and not fandom.
Idk. I know a lot of people feel differently. That's fine (although I admit I get discouraged when I get in a fandom RP mood and literally everybody only wants to RP OCs but not canons). I just tend to leave a thread if someone wants a fandom RP but only wants OCs involved.

Yeah I mean I just never have faith they want me to play the actual canon in Canon x OC roleplays. They want me to play their "Crush" which is usually barely recognizable as the same character outside of face-claim/basic backstory.

Also people who make their OCs the relatives of Canons in romantic roleplays. I don't mind it so much in platonic roleplays if it's kind of a "What if Canon had a different family dynamic." thing. But I hate it when it's like...oh my character is relative to Main Character and their crush is Canon X.

My character is Harry's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate and their crush is Ron.

Literally everything you said is such an awful fanfiction trope and I hate it. So yeah... I agree with you lol. Keep me away from that kinda stuff.

Yeet my dudes, back again!

Honestly, I really enjoy military themed roleplays but i've always hesitated nowerdays because of the sheer volume of generic/cliché characters that just always appear, regardless of any rules I have put into place as a GM. It's always the same 'super tough bad-ass, who won't think twice before handing out death-threats to any and all that dare question their authority (even if they have been told to play as a lower-ranking soldier because i've taken one look at their character sheet and more or less said "Your character has zero qualifications or common-sense to furfill the role of a leadership position, either change it so you don't come across as a complete COD kid or take an enlisted rank instead so people don't have to actually follow through with your horrible ideas/decisions." There always a brief stand-off where Captain Cliché points out how their character was an enlisted Marine, then took over the Navy and single-handedly invaded Afghanistan because 'Murica'. So obivously i'm wrong for limiting this perfect candidate from leading a small team of interesting and varied characters. Of course i'm wrong to point out that the 'Master Chief' cannot carry a M2.Browning Machine-Gun as a side-arm because it's "Impractical if not borderline impossible." How ignorant of me for saying "Why is your character a General and is yet doing active-combat duty?" Because as we all know, the higher your rank, the more impressive your kill-streak is.

I would hardly call myself a military expert, but I do enjoy those sorts of RP's(there's something interesting about writing the struggles of a bunch of men on the frontlines). However, stuff like this is pure cringe so I rarely seek out those sorts of RP's.

Aye, it is a big shame as there are some very talented roleplayers that as you say, rarely seek out Military Roleplays because of the absolute lack of quality characters or stories written up. It's become a hidden gem to find a Military Roleplay that lasts longer than a month or more nowerdays.

One of my most memorable RP's was about a bunch of Red Army soldiers during WW II. It was super well-written and all the characters were well-developed. It's a shame that it eventually died.
