Everyone's fighting some battle of their own.
Xander was startled when Vulcan finally woke up from whatever sedatives they had probably used on him. Xander pushed himself up into a standing position, at the opposite end of the small cell as Vulcan. Watching him react angrily, Xander felt a pang in his heart, wishing he could try to comfort or help his friend. Upon seeing the pain the handcuffs caused on Vulcan, Xander was furious, though he knew he could do nothing about it. Once vulcan was down and sitting against the wall in a calmer manner, Xander walked over to his friend's side and then sat down before putting a hand on Vulcan's shoulder. Even if Vulcan didn't know he was there, Xander would still keep him company and try to let him now that he wasn't alone. After all, Xander wanted to leave the agency probably just as badly as Vulcan appeared to want to. Xander just wanted to see his Celeste again...and to see his child for the first time. He'd kept the child a secret from the agency all these years. They knew about his wife, Celeste, but they didn't know about her Gift and Xander was going to keep it that way. After Xander convinced the agency over the years that he was a faithful agent, they left Celeste alone and didn't bother threatening her or anything. As long as Xander continued to peacefully work for the agency, they would bring no harm to Celeste or his child.
