Futuristic Those That are Hunted

"Come on, lover boy. Maybe I'll even let you win, for the ladies. So much talk and no action." he smirked. Sometimes he just couldn't take Xander serious with his long braids and his appeal in general, although he very well knew that he was just as deadly in a combat like any other. Not that there was something wrong with it all. Vulcan would just have to make sure his protective instincts didn't kick in and break his jaw incidentally. The same thing the other way round. He wasn't sure if even Alpha could heal a pile of ashes.

Xander scoffed at the nickname and said, "Whatever you say, wolfman. I can win just fine on my own, thank you very much." Xander leaned back in his chair and then randomly remembered that Vulcan had been messing with his hair earlier. Was he considering cutting it? Suddenly getting a fun idea, Xander leaned forward in his chair and said with a grin, "Wanna make a bet, wolfman?"

Vulcan held back his laughter at Xander telling him he could easily win against him. Perhaps he was overestimating himself but then again, there was nothing wrong with some high self-esteem, as long as it didn't turn into foolish bravery. "Why not, torchman? Let's hear it." he sat back up. Seems like he wouldn't get much sleep that night anyways.

Xander chuckled at the newest nickname, wondering how many Vulcan had made up for him at this point. Continuing to grin, and pleased that Vulcan was interested in his offer, Xander said, "So, let's make a bet on the future sparring. If I win, you have to cut your hair short, like, military short." Xander purposely paused after saying this, curious if Vulcan would want his own say in what Xander would have to do if he lost.

"That won't bother me really. I grow hair like a beast, quite literally. You on the other hand don't." he pointed at him and gave him the most evil grin he could possibly make, already imagining him getting rid of his long braids. Amelie wouldn't be too happy about Vulcan's haircut if he was to lose but she would survive a week or two at most. Besides, it couldn't be compared to the shave they had given him when he was in prison. Not only had they shaved his head, they had engraved his prisoner number into the fur on his thigh as well. Luckily for him these both had healed rather quickly... only to be done over and over again. "You sure that will be your bet, man?"

Xander practically blanched at the idea of cutting his hair, especially since he knew that once he lost the locks, he'd have to wash his hair again. Not that it was a big deal, but it did permit him more time in the mornings to sleep. Plus, his shorter hair would definitely require hair gel to keep it tamed. Luckily, Vulcan hadn't specified a length to cut his hair to, so Xander could take that one a bit freely, but to cut off his braids would mean that he'd definitely be stuck with a short hairstyle regardless. Knowing this ultimately wouldn't be too big of a deal for Xander if he were to lose anyway, Xander shrugged and held out his hand for Vulcan to shake before saying with a relaxed grin, "I'm sure."

"You've been warned." Vulcan said, now with a more serious voice, and leaned over to shake his hand. He had liked his braids. To play with them anyways... "Just don't tell Amelie about it. I hope we won't need Alpha but I'd like her to be around in any case. So, after breakfast then?" Vulcan could truly imagine himself going a bit more than just fluffy with someone if he didn't get something in his stomach before the match. He was just hoping the quality of the food would be better that what they gave the prisoners or else he would be going hunting in the woods surrounding the camp.

Xander continued to grin, not taking Vulcan's serious tone too seriously. Nodding, Xander said, "Sure, it'll be just between the two of us then. We'll have to make sure Alpha doesn't tell Amelie then. We also will have to find a way to inconspicuously separate the pair." Thinking about doing it after breakfast instantly made Xander wonder if he'd be seeing his breakfast during the match. Still, having some food in his system probably wouldn't hurt as long as they at least had thirty minutes to digest. That was a enough time to do so, right? Xander then added, "After breakfast then, but we should probably digest before just jumping into the match. I dunno about you, but I'd prefer to avoid seeing my breakfast again if possible."

"Nah, why take the fun out of it? There should be some audience but we'll have to gather them quickly before Mrs. Icicle notices our intentions." After all, Vulcan was trying to help his buddy find a girlfriend. Of course, he wouldn't fake the defeat but he wasn't going to go hundred percent on him either. The Therians watching would probably be rolling their eyes but everyone else would be grabbing popcorn. "I'll consider not punching you in the stomach then. Don't want you puking all over me."

Xander frowned at what Vulcan was saying. He really seemed intent on not trying too hard in this sparring. What were his true intentions here? Cocking his head slightly, Xander said, "Look, if you're seriously considering going easy on me then we might as well call this whole thing off. I want you to try your hardest, not take it easy." If they were seriously going to spar together, the last thing Xander wanted was for Vulcan to dance around and let Xander throw all of the hard hits. He knew the guy was excellent in combat and he was perfectly okay with any injuries that would follow the match. Xander could deal with them, especially with Alpha nearby.

"Okay, man. I'll try. I haven't sparred with anyone in months and Amelie isn't really the best opponent. Hitting a girl and all." He truly needed to let some steam off. A sparring match was different than what they were doing in the field. However, he would try to throw his hits with the strength of a normal human being. Single-Therians adopted most of the features of their animal form, including senses and strength. Getting hit by a raging wolf the size of a horse would be equivalent to getting hit by a car, not to mention if all that power was to be concentrated in his fists.

Xander nodded at this and said, "All right, sounds good to me." Then grinning, he added, "I'll try to put up a good fight for you. I know I'm no good in hand-to-hand combat." Chuckling after saying this, Xander settled after a couple seconds and then suddenly realized how tired he was. Damn jet lag. Letting out a small yawn, Xander said, "Perhaps we should get some rest now."

"Well that's a skill everyone should pretty much master. I mean, imagine if you didn't have your gift." he said and they were quiet for a few moments before Xander spoke again about getting some sleep. "Oh yeah, definately." Vulcan had completely forgotten about that. He stood up and opened the drawer, grabbing one of the pairs of one-size-fits-all mouse gray shirt and pants, tossing the other pair over to Xander. He didn't mind sleeping with his suit on but just... why? He quickly changed, attached the speaking device to his shirt and got into bed. At first he didn't think he would drop off all that easily after this day but very soon exhaustion took over and he curled up, falling asleep after just a couple of minutes.

***

The next morning they were rudely woken up by the morning bell, probably ringing through the whole building. It wasn't exactly a trumpet call but annoying nevertheless. "What the heck! Seriously?!" Vulcan groaned and rubbed his eyes, then kicked the bed above him to get Xander awake as well. He then rose from the bed and quickly changed in his suit again.

Xander caught the clothes tossed at him and wasted no time in changing, not thinking twice about changing with Vulcan present in the room with him. After all, the man had a girlfriend and they were both guys so it most likely wouldn't bother him at all. After changing, Xander climbed up the side of the bunk bed to his own bed and, careful to not hit his head on the ceiling, Xander settled down in his bed and fell asleep faster than expected. That jet lag really knocked people out sometimes.

~~~
Quickly sitting upright when he felt someone kicking his bed, Xander yelped as his forehead struck the ceiling. Rubbing his forehead, Xander muttered a curse at whoever designed this place for really short people...or children. Sighing, Xander climbed down from his bed and then realized there was a bell going off, though it stopped within a few seconds. Finding his usual uniform where he'd left it in a heap on his desk last night, Xander changed back into it and then asked Vulcan, "So, what's up with the morning call there? You think it's for the prisoners?"
Hearing the bell go off Amelie groaned. ~Jet lag is a terrible thing.~ sitting up she stretched her body and yawned. She felt movement beside her. "Mmmmm whyyyy." "Alpha it's time to get up." Amelie shook Alpha's shoulder. "But mooommm." At that Amelie froze and then Alpha's eyes widened at her mistake. She held her breath till Amelie moved and got out of bed. "Breakfast will be in a half hour." She said as she changed into a fresh outfit. She put her hair in a tight bun and then walked out of the room. ~What just happened? That was weird.~ "She will need to sleep in her own room from now on." Amelie mummbled.
When Amelie left Alpha finally sat up. "How stupid." It wasn't her fault. She has been in the agency for so long, she was practically raised here. Her earliest memory was of her real parents waking her up. Alpha sighed and got dressed. The fox that had slept above her head was gone. "Time to go to breakfast." She walked out of the rokm, locking the door and heading to the mess hall.
As the bell rang the cell doors all unlocked. "All prisoners to the mess hall for breakfast."
(what now? everyone's eating in the same mess hall? at the same hours?)
"I think it's for us. Breakfast, duty and all that probably." he yawned and scratched his head, running his fingers through his hair - probably for the last time in a couple of days. "Should we go check up on the girls or are we going straight to the mess hall?" he asked and headed for the door but as he was outside he saw Alpha just come out and lock the room. Vulcan quickened his pace and caught up with her. "Sleep well? May we have a word? Only the three of us?"
(Shouldn't the prisoners and guards be separated for the most part? I doubt there'd be a bunch of friendly feelings between them)
Xander shrugged and said, "Your call, I don't really care." Yet, by the time he'd said this, Vulcan was already out the door. Rolling his eyes at this, Xander resolved to follow after him before locking the door to their room once he'd exited it. Joining Vulcan's side, Xander was relieved that they'd been able to catch Alpha alone like this.
Ring a little spaced out Alpha's response was a little late. "Huh? Oh sure. What is it?" She looked up at Vulcan to Xander and then back to Vulcan. It was kind of suspicious of them to just want to talk to her alone.
"Hmm. The two of us..." he put his arm across Xander's shoulders "...were thinking of having a bit of a sparring match aaand since it can get a bit violent we were hoping that you could perhaps offer some help after we're done?" he smiled kindly, hoping it was enough. "But please, no word about it to Amelie. She'll kill us both. Can you do that?"
Alpha smiled wide. Finally she will be useful. "Of course I'll help. And Amelie and I kind of had an awkward moment this morning so she is probably planning on avoiding me for a little." She got embarrassed at the thought of what happened and her face started to turn red. "Anyway, when?"
"About half an hour at most after breakfast?" he looked at Xander but assumed he would share his opinion. "Yeah, sounds good. Haven't quite decided where however. Maybe just outside the mess hall? Or should we do it in the building for indoor activities? What do you guys think? I personally have no preference as to where we'll be kicking each other's asses."
Xander rolled his eyes at Vulcan's overly kind behavior. He was clearly trying to hard. Shaking his head and grinning at Vulcan, Xander gently pushed Vulcan's arm off of his shoulder before looking back at Alpha. Upon hearing Vulcan's suggestions for a location, Xander said, "Honestly, anywhere with the least flammable stuff surrounding us would be brilliant."
"Whoo! You gonna set me on fire, partner?" Vulcan was a bit surprised. He had though they wouldn't be using their gifts in this. But then again, it would be even more fun. Fire show included. "Oh, and do we have a referee? I don't think fighting till we drop half-dead is such a good idea."
Xander scoffed at Vulcan's reaction and said, "It'd be a completely unfair fight if I couldn't use my fire. I think we already clarified that my hand-to-hand combat sucks ass." Upon hearing the idea of having a referee, Xander nodded and then added, "Sure, a ref couldn't hurt...but who should we have be our ref?"
