Futuristic Those That are Hunted

When he handed her the bag and then an apple she was confused. ~Where'd th apple come from?~ She didn't remember stopping by the stand. When he came back her eyes shined bright looking at the strawberries. "Not at all." She noticed the other apple. "How did you get this though. I don't remember stopping by an apple stand." Amelie didn't like the thieves. "These people work hard to earn money and you just got an steal from them?" She didn't want to be angry him but she couldn't believe yet. ~It's hard to teach an old dog a new trick.~ "Let's just go back to the house." When they where in the car Amelie didn't say anything and just drove them home. When they got back she wasn't surprised that her brother was still asleep. "Stays up till right before the sun rises. Sometimes I think he's a vampire." She mumbled the last part. "You can get started cooking. I'm going to put the clothes away." When she got to the room she jumped when she saw Alec sitting on their bed.

"I was wondering where you two went. I heard you leave." Amelie put the clothes away before joining him. She saw the dark circles under his eyes signifying he hasn't been sleeping well. His gift tended to do that to him. "Vulcan needed some ingredients to cook lunch. I thought you would still be sleeping." Alec gripped the sheets with his hands. "I wasn't able to sleep long. Stupid ghost haven't left me alone since he showed up." Amelie sighed and leaned her back on the wall. She made him lay down with his head in her lap. "You always slept better with me." She ran her fingers through his hair and after a few minutes his breathing evened out and was asleep. She summoned her wolf. "Go to Vulcan and keep him company for a little." She whispered. The wolf nodded and padded out of the room and into the kitchen. It sat down next to Vulcan.

"I borrowed them..." he intentionally avoided this topic. If it was his old self he would have probably not stolen one apple but the whole van along with the apples of the man selling them. Then again, he was trying to forget about those days. At least she didn't seem to have noticed the undergarment that he had borrowed from the clothing store.

Once they were at the house again he immediately makes his way to the kitchen. There was no need to hurry but they were all beginning to get hungry as well. Vulcan was just unpacking the groceries on the counter and getting the meat out of the freezer when Amelies ice wolf arrived at his side. He petted its head before turning his attention back to cooking "You hungry buddy? Sorry, your master will have to wait a little longer." He takes a large haunch and cuts it in steaks. Then he chops the carrots, peppers and the damn onions that sting his eyes as all onions did and fries them in a pan with some butter. At the very end he adds the thyme. He then puts the meat into a pan along with the sour cream, the basil and some warm water. "Oh, man! I forgot to buy mushrooms..." He puts the cover on and lets it stew on a low temperature, quietly cursing under his nose. All there was left to do is wait. He takes a seat on a chair by the table, keeping an eye on the stove and starts petting the wolf.

Vulcan stares at the second apple in the fruit basket on the table for at least a minute, his hands tucked in between his knees. He didn't feel good about it. Not only did he fail to restrain himself but he had also made Amelie mad. He would have to apologize later, talk to her, ask her for advice.

When he was still living in the street there wasn't really any other way to survive other than to steal. Begging was much less profitable and often the money earned was not only highly insufficient but also easily taken away. When he later joined up with those gangs he was practically obliged to do it and with time he began to enjoy it. Stealing became a hobby... and an addiction. And now, even though he knew he didn't need to worry about surviving anymore, it was something inside him that drove him to continue. For no reason at all except simply possessing that item. It didn't matter if it was something as simple as an apple or something worth hundreds or more.

In the last few weeks there were simply too many things to distract his mind so he had no time to go out in the streets and steal, nor did he feel the need to. But the moment he set foot in that store it returned for some odd reason - the urge to take something without permission, like an unwanted guest that simply refuses to leave.

Ivan had done his best to help him with his condition. Almost every day he would walk with him in all sorts of stores, giving him an item to hold, then walking back outside and watching for how long the boy would hold out. If Vulcan succeeded to put the thing back to its place and leave the shop without it somewhere tucked under his shirt, sleeve or in any pocket, Ivan would give him money to buy the item if he still wanted it and reward him. If not, a punishment would follow. Ivan was an even-tempered man but had a strong arm. Yelping and begging didn't help. Not all scars Vulcans body was covered in were from fights. With time the two of them had managed to bring his condition to a much more tolerable level. Perhaps it wasn't the best method but it surely worked for him. Before that it was much worse.

But if Amelie was telling the truth, which of course she was, why would she lie to him, then agents didn't have much time to themselves and less free time would mean less things that Vulcan could do that he wasn't supposed to do. Perhaps a constant occupation would be the final cure.

Vulcan rises from the chair and goes back to look at their boiling meal, opening the lid to let the steam out a little and add salt. Perhaps about half an hour longer and it would be ready. He uses that time to put plates and utensils on the table. He wondered what Amelie must be doing. Her wolf companion looked completely relaxed, not frustrated or angry, but he still wanted to see her. He walks to the their bedroom and as he sees Alec sleeping in her lap he smirks. Vampire, huh? "Lunch will be ready in about half an hour. Should we eat later? Your brother looks like he needs some rest." he whispers.

(Well, you are still sitting/laying on that skyscraper roof with Kytha. You could, I dunno, fall asleep again and let her carry you to their new hideout, heal you and so on...)

( I've got exams to study :( )

Hayden looked back at Kytha as he watched Piper leave. "Come on, Kytha. Let's go home." He said, playing his fingers around Kytha's back, he's shown too much affection. We'll take my car, I feel awkward when a shifter grabs me and takes me home, especially when that shifter is a girl. He went back to his black matte car, he smiled - not a single scratch from the fight had affected the vehicle. He knew a bloodbath was going to happen the moment he entered Lucky Inn, so he had to hide his car in a safe place... like an underground parking lot in Lucky Inn.

He opened the passenger's door with a smile, gesturing Kytha to enter. Then he went on to his keys and jiggled until the engine roared.

Kytha snarled when the girl walked off but giggled when Hayden spoke. "Ok ok" she says and they manage to get off the skyscraper and onto the ground. They walk over to his car and she slips into it. "I just wish she would've stayed... She went towards that inn so I bet she's going to join them."

Vulcan nods and walks back to the kitchen, setting the timer on the stove on half an hour. It would not only turn the heat off but also probably ring when the time was up. He yawns and walks to the couch in the living room, laying down and placing an arm across his eyes. He needed some rest. The hunt had tired him off a bit, even if it wasn't him personally killing that deer. I'm hopefully not becoming a house dog... or old. Perhaps it's because I used that soul orb. He quickly falls asleep with that thought still running in his head.

Amelie smirked at him. "He's going to be out for a while." She whispered and carefully lifted Alec's head of of her lap and placed it on the pillow next to her. Her wolf had followed in behind Vulcan and when she got up it jumped onto the bed and took her place next to him. Alec snuggled up closer to the wolf. Amelie walked out of the room and headed to the kitchen. It smells amazing. She stopped when she saw Vulcan on the couch, asleep, and smiled softly at him. A thought entered her head then. She didn't know what she would do if it came down to choosing between them. Shaking her head she got rid of those thoughts and took a seat in the kitchen. Seeing that there was a timer set she would just wait.

Half an hour later the alarm goes off as expected. It causes Vulcan to jump awake and roll down from the couch. Cursing like a sailor he gets up from the ground and walks to the kitchen, greeting Amelie who was standing there. He lifts up the lid and pokes around the meat with a fork to make sure it was well cooked. The water had evaporated and a thick creamy sauce was left, in which the meat and the veggies were swimming. He takes the plates from the table and fills them up with the hot deliciousness, taking a seat next to Amelie, resting his head on her shoulder while they were waiting for the meal to cool down a bit and Alec to join them.

Hayden kept his eyes front, "So what do you propose? We kill her right now? Or just wait until she joins the agency and give her that reason why we should kill her?" He replied. The car's engine roared and they finally exit the parking lot, now emerging towards the bloodbath. Hayden felt nothing... he never did. Sometimes, he'd remember how many kids he'd killed... but he never cared. The car came across thousands of dead bodies lying around, some were even holding their hands or hugging them tightly, showing their love and affection one last time before dying. He tried switching off the headlights, thinking it would lessen the visibility of the corpses, it didn't. So he just gently held Kytha's head by the hair and tugged her close to his chest, "Don't look... it can give you nightmares." He said, while gently rubbing his palm across Kytha's hair.

But then he remembers what Amelie had said. "He's going to be out for a while." Vulcan was so sleepy when she said that, that he had heard it but not understood or remembered. Oh, well. He pulls Alec's plate closer and starts eating. There was plenty left for him later when he wakes up. "So, what's the plan now? Kytha won't be staying for long in that cave, now that she knows that we're not playing around anymore. Probably won't be far from the city. I can track them... unless of course they use the services of that dragon..." he murmurs, thinking out loud. That was the best possible way to lose the three agents. Besides, Hayden couldn't walk with that leg anyways so they had to carry him to their new hideout one way or the other and the fastest way to do that would be through air. "How the heck is it possible that no one sees a ?#@*&%! dragon flying around the city?! There's no way the agency hasn't dealt with a dragon shifter before! Moments after it appeared I expected some helicopters, military support, anything! Are they waiting for Godzilla to show up?!" Realizing he was getting angry and loud, his mind not thinking straight, he calms down with a silent growl. Amelie was able to wound it with her ice shards. If they were able to bring it to the ground its fire wouldn't help him... or her. He hadn't seen the person behind the animals shape. Such a huge animal, magical or not, was strong and powerful, yes, but with size surely came the lack of maneuverability, slower turns, exposure of weak spots. But what did he know? This was the first time Vulcan had ever laid eyes on a mythical beast and his knowledge was pretty much restricted to faerie tales and old legends.

He needed a change of topics. They were on a vacation. Besides, they shouldn't discuss any of this without their partner. Xander was a very helpful young fella. Vulcan was wondering why he had been so suspicious of him in the beginning. "Where are your parents by the way?" he turns around in his chair to look at her. Neither Amelie nor Alec had mentioned any of them and Vulcan imagined that she would want to see them just as much as seeing her brother. Her father at least, of whom she hadn't spoken anything bad, in comparison to their mother.

Kytha was not expecting Hayden moves and resisted it a little. She moved his hand from her yes and looked around. Then looked up at Hayden. "We need to control your powers. I don't know what I do if I lost you... One day your going to be too reckless and kill yourself with your own power. And I really don't want to watch that happen." She says and pulls herself back up from his grasp and into her own seat looking at what they had done. "Just get us to the new hideout.."

Drakes first battle... as this... thing. He was in a dropship alone, in the metal husk they called a "Power suit" More like his grave... He as dropped into the city, and left there, with one goal in mind. Kill as many as those "creatures" As you can, and leave the area. At least he was strong, with inches of steel, a power claw, and a mini-gun. His radar opened up, showing a new hideout several of them have created, and started to walk there, rather slowly.

(Btw if your tracking us that's impossible 1, me and Hayden aren't there yet. 2, they can't just constantly be on our tail and 3, we don't have tracking devices in us :/ just saying :P )

( Even if we did have gadgets, they were all tweaked to cover up our tracks :)

Hayden started speeding up, and as he did, they began to see more of the innocent dead. At least the sweet and muffling sound of the engine calmed him down. He kept driving, both his hands now on the steering wheel, tightly. The stench began to enter... but how? The car's windows were surely designed to shield them from those kind of smells. "Cover your nose." He said, his hands now gripping so tight like he was... choking something.

It just kept getting worse and worse.

He began to hear... whispers? It wasn't Claiyre... neither was it one of his wyrms. These whispers were the faint cries of real humans. What is this? The whispers grew louder and louder, yet never did he show his reaction to Kytha. He just kept calm, but there was a battle inside of him. "Mommy? "Are we going to die?" A whisper of a little boy spoken. "No... I don't wanna die now!" Another one whispered. "My family... who's going to take care of them when I'm gone?" One man whispered. The rest were faint yet loud cries, both from the humans and from the sound of the merciless shards he released that moment. "No.." Hayden whispered, although it was so loud that Kytha could obviously hear it.

Then, a flash. First it was just whispering of the dead, now there were quick flashes that held a glowing red image. Then, these images began to change. It showed an image of the little boy he heard whisper, the kid seemed to have a wound near his eyes, with blood spilling all over. Then the images kept flashing and showing the dead bodies in the Inn. "NO!" His hand began to glow, after a mere quick second, he realized his hand was already starting to grip Kytha's neck. He quickly let go of her. Not knowing of what he's done and what he might do.

Kytha didn't move when he said cover your nose for she couldn't smell anything. He whispered no. Kytha asked what was wrong but got no response. Then he suddenly screamed out no and his hand lunges at her neck she screamed and choked for air as he slowly crushed her windpipe. She pulled at it vigorously and then he just unclamped it. She pulled her body back into a corner trembling like crazy. After a few minutes she caught her breath. Also mustering up the courage to speak. Although still trembling in the corner she yelled quite loud. "What the hell Hayden!! What the hell was that for!!" A queasiness filled her body and she whispered "stop the car." He didnt move. "Stop the car! HAYDEN STOP THE CAR! UNLESS YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO THROW UP ALL OVER YOUR CAR, I SUGGEST YOU STOP THE CAR!" She screamed pulling at the door her hands sweaty and she couldn't get a grip on it "Hayden let me out!!!!" She yelled starting to cry what was wrong with him?

(Mr. Death is taking its toll? "What good soul orbs you are. Such good soul orbs. Bmuhahaha!" *petting a soul orb*)

(so Hayden can now see the ghost of those he has killed?)

Amelie's stomach rumbled at the smell of the food and dug in wen she was handed the plate. "The dragon thing is something we have never dealt with before. I personally have never read any reports about a shifter like that." She took another bite. "But I don't blame the government for not reacting the way you think they are. Half of the people in that city are dead and no matter how much they want Hayden's capture they aren't going to waste more resources on him, let alone gifted agents. Also if we make it seem like they are becoming a problem more might rise up." Amelie continued to eat agreeing with Vulcan that they should wait to discuss it when they return to Xander. At the mentioned of her parents, Amelie's hand stopped mid air. Flashes of emotions went through her eyes. Happiness, sadness, anger. It took her a moment before she could respond and slowly put her fork down. "They aren't in our life anymore. My father tried his best to protect my brother and I. After I left he felt he failed me and tried to help others. When my mother found out what he was doing she sent in an anonymous tip and eventually got him killed." Her hands where in her lap gripping her pants. "It took every ounce of self control I had not to go out and kill her. It didn't take long for the chief to figure out something was wrong. He knew I would snap eventually and sent me away. It's the reason why I am the way I am." Ice had formed on the floor beneath her.

"I'm sorry I asked..." Vulcan puts an arm across her shoulders and moves his chair closer to hers as to take her in his arms. "A parent would do everything to protect his children. It's good that you didn't go and kill her. You would feel more remorse than satisfaction." He didn't know what else to say, nor did he need to. He couldn't imagine what she had gone through, so whatever he told her would sound stupid. Most of the jobs he was assigned to do were of this sort - from some high-ranked businessmen eliminating competitors to children murdering their rich parents to get to their money. When he saw the ice forming underneath them he quickly folded his legs up as to not be reached and covered by it. He coughs and slightly grips her shoulder as the ice starts crawling up the chair legs as well.

Amelie doubt she would ever feel remorse after killing her mother. Deep in her mind she knew what Vulcan said was true but she refused to believe it. Feeling the grip on her shoulder she snapped out of it. "I'm sorry." The ice stopped spreading. "Talking about her just gets me all riled up. Alec is much better at hiding his feelings. It also helps that his gift isn't obvious." She sighed and ran her hand through her hair and then leaned into him.

Alec stood in the isle way listening to everything. When Amelie's emotions started to get out of control her wolf started too as well and it woke up him when the creature shattered. He leaned up against the wall. What was Amelie going to do when she found out that he had been talking to their mom again? She's going to kill me. That wasn't entirely true. Worst thing he thinks she might do is give him the cold shoulder. Still she can't know. He moved off the wall and headed to his room before she found out he was there.

Vulcan relaxed when she finally snapped out of it. Their gifts were part of them and controlling them could be possible only by controlling one's emotions. Before Ivan taught him that, every time he got angry he would shift and rip everything in his path to shreds before calming down again. One of his methods was drinking tea gathered from the forest, lots and lots of tea. "Yes, but Alec's gift is not meant for fighting as far as I know. He couldn't do any damage with it even if he wanted to." Speaking about him, Vulcan could, of course, hear every footstep her brother made, but as he was about to call him over Alec turned back around and returned to the room. Still envious... "By the way, what does your brother do for a living? It's not like a gifted could simply work at an office and this house doesn't buy itself."

Amelie giggled at the thought of Alec fighting. "He couldn't hurt someone if her tried physically I mean. He could probably make something to do that for him." It was then that she realized that her wolf had been shattered. Hopefully she hadn't woken him. "He works in the private sector. Mostly with security. The company he works for is the one that sets up security measures in banks and on the side he does the cameras on the streets and outside buildings. Those he mainly does because he wants to have access to everything. You should see his man cave. It's very....unique." She couldn't really think of a way to describe it to him. Not that Alec would let him down there to begin with. "It's actually kind of scary really. He is one of the few people who can access anything without getting questioned because of what he does."

"Clever man. To be a gifted and live freely among humans one must be a bit paranoid. Whatever is in that basement, I don't wanna see it. He is suspicious of me. Lets not make it worse than it already is." after a pause he gently pushes her aside to stand up. He takes the dirty plates off the table and puts them into the dishwasher. Then he goes to the fridge grabbing one of the boxes of strawberries and the remaining sour cream. He quickly cuts the strawberries in half, sprinkles sugar on them and pours the cream on top. "You Americans seem to go all crazy about this." He throws in two spoons in the bowl and winks at Amelie, then carries it into the living room, leaving it on the coffee table in front of the sofa. He takes a seat, crossing one leg over the other with his arms out on the back of the sofa - feeling almost at home really.
