These Four Walls

(Ah oh okay)

Evie spotted Chloe's frizzy blond hair, among the crowd of the people in the hallway, instantly. She called out to her and together, they walked into their homeroom.

Sam watched as the people filed out into their usual groups of friends, disappearing into classrooms. He was looking for a certain someone, hand in his bag, resting on the gun, waiting. He caught sight of him, Sean Brown, heading out of the front doors, and so he followed him.

As Evie hurried to her homeroom, she saw Sam going towards the front doors and against the flow of the students. He probably left something outside and went to get it. She shrugged and reached her classroom, where Mrs. Stellar had already begun her morning lecture. She groaned inaudibly and sat in her assigned seat in the front row.

Sam walked behind Sean for a moment, following him to his usual place behind the school grounds, where there were fortunately no cameras, so that Sean could spark up a cigarette, and Sam could... Sam could kill him. He didn't want to believe that he had to, he wanted to believe it was all a joke, like when he pulled the trigger nothing would happen. He had to keep convincing himself that it was a joke, just to get the gun out of his bag.

"Psst!", Chloe whispered to Evie. "Look! That's Sean. He looks so badass, doesn't he? He must be bunking class right now."

Evie's eyes followed Chloe's gaze and saw a tall boy through the class window. He walked a bit further and then disappeared around a corner. Evie's disinterested eyes went back to her notebook again.

"Evie!", Chloe hissed again, looking at Evie's doodles. "Give your opinions. You have to have some kind of-wait, is that Sam?"

Chloe was looking through the window again. Sure enough, Sam was there. It seemed like he was following the Sean guy.

Evie squinted her eyes at him. Was he going to sell drugs to Sean now?

Sam rounded the corner and cleared his throat, drawing the attention of Sean, who narrowed his eyes at him upon recognition.

"What do you want? I ain't gonna buy drugs off you, and you're insane if you think Alex is gonna change his mind about Ethan-" Sean looked at the gun that Sam now had taken out of his bag. "Hey- I didn't- don't-"

Sean turned to run, his eyes wide, but he didn't get to round the corner when Sam pulled the trigger, the loud blast almost deafening him.

It hadn't been a joke. The gun actually had bullets in it.

Sam looked at the bleeding out Sean on the ground for a split second, before turning, and running.

Everybody jumped out of their seats when they heard the sudden noise and started running out of the classroom. The teachers tried to manage the students but failed and gave up soon.

Evie ran outside too, worried if anything had happened to Sam since she had seen him outside.

Soon, Sean was found shot next to a tree. Evie's eyes widened. She got angry when people started clicking pictures instead of helping him.

"You selfish morons!", she shouted before taking out her own cell phone and calling the ambulance. The ambulance arrived about five minutes later and one of the teachers went with Sean. The rest of the crowd slowly dispersed.

Evie still couldn't wrap her head around what had happened. Chloe finally found her in the crowd and suggested,"Evie, you should ask Samuel if he'd seen anything unusual around Sean. We saw him a few steps behind Sean, remember?"

Evie agreed that it was a good idea and went to find Sam.

Sam sat in the school bathroom, locked in one of the stalls. The gun was in his school bag, and he had to keep it until Ethan asked for it back.

His head was in his hands, and tears ran down his cheeks. He had hoped so much that it was a joke.

"Have you seen Sam?", Evie asked a guy from his class, only to get the same shake of head as an answer. "No? Well, thanks."

Nobody had seen Sam? Where did he go? Since, Evie found out unexpected things about him, she had been starting to suspect Sam a lot. Did he go to Ethan again? Did he bunk class? Had he seen the shooter?

Where was he?

Sam stared up at the ceiling, tears trailed down his cheeks and he wiped them away frantically. Eventually, he stood, climbing to his feet slowly, and walked out of the bathroom stall with his bag around his shoulder.

Sam walked over to the sink and splashed water on his face, before washing his hands too. He stood and stared at himself for a moment before he turned and walked out of the bathroom, trying to act like nothing had happened.

"No, not seen him", the triplets in Sam's class replied and Evie sighed.

Just then, a brunette tapped her shoulder and said,"I think I saw Sam walking out of the male washroom."

Evie jogged toward the pointed direction after thanking her.

Sam walked over to his locker and pushed his bag inside it, ultimately locking the gun inside it. He had to pretend like nothing was happening. He shut his locker and then turned, seeing Evie. He felt sick to his stomach, but he had to pretend that he knew nothing.

"Jeez, why do you keep disappearing?", Evie asked, scowling. "Do you even know what just happened? A murder happened out there. Poor Sean."

"What? Really? Did they see who did it?" Sam asked, pretending to stay interested. "And what are we still doing at school if there was a murder right outside?"

"It's quite a mess out there. And no, nobody saw anything", she replied before remembering what she came for. "That reminds me, you were walking right behind Sean a few minutes before we heard the gunshot. You must've seen something."

Evie looked at Sam with big hopeful eyes. She wanted to help solve the murder. She never did like crimes and now that one happened right in her school, she wanted to find the culprit soon.

"No- no I didn't see anything." Sam said quickly, then tried to calm himself by digging his fingers into his leg. "I honestly just walked right past Sean, and I had my earphones in too so I must not have heard, otherwise I would have turned around."

Evie sighed, shaking her head at Sam. "You still wear your earphones to the washrooms? You'll never lose that habit of yours, will you?"

"My earphones are my life, kid." He said, shrugging his shoulders and getting them out of his pocket. "And I value my life, so that means I'm not staying at school while there's just been a murder on the premises. I strongly advise you leave too." He turned around and opened his locker, grabbing his bag casually. Once it was around his shoulder, Sam turned and looked at his sister.

"Well, count me out of it", she said with determined eyes. "I'm only going to rest when I put the culprit behind the bars. Anyways, are you allowed to ride your bike yet? I need a ride. Again."

"No, still doomed to walk my way to hell and back." He shrugged his shoulders, "why? Where do you need to go this time?" He questioned, fiddling with the strap of his bag nervously. What was inside his bag could get him in some serious trouble, and he needed to hide it as soon as possible.

Evie only glanced at his shaking hands curiously before forgetting about it and replying back. "I'm going to go to the hospital. I don't know the guy really well but I just want to see how he is and if he would even live or not."

Sam almost suffocated at the news that the guy could live. "I hope- hope he lives." He didn't at all, because if the guy lived he'd know who shot him, and he would tell. He hoped he died on the way to the hospital, bled out or something.

Evie narrowed her eyes at Sam. "You're acting really strange, Sam", she started, crossing her arms. "But I'm not going to say anything because you're always acting strange nowadays."
