These Four Walls

Evie face-palmed. She forgot that he was grounded for god knows how many days. She sighed.

"Sam, do something", she pleaded. "I came here by the last bus that was available. I know I should've thought it through but my mind was pre-occupied by........things. Just tell mom that you're going grocery-shopping or something."

"She'll kill me if I even talk to her, Evie. Or don't you remember? I'm the number one most hated and avoided member of this family." He began to bite his fingernails. "Where are you, anyway?" He stood up and walked towards his bedroom door, grabbing his coat. "I can sneak out and find you, but I can't take the car. Infact you know what? They can't keep me in here. I'm coming to get you."

"At Eth-", Evie started but abruptly stopped. Sam will get angry if he finds out where she was. "-nicity Club", she said, making up a random name. "Well, if you can't bring the car, I might as well come by myself."

She audibly gulped, looking at her surroundings. The area was mostly deserted. And creepy.

"So you don't want me to come now?" He questioned, confused. "And I didn't even know there was ethnicity club." He shrugged his shoulders, oblivious to his sisters lying. "alright then, see you when you get home." He hung up on her.

"No", she squeaked as the line went dead. What was she going to do now?

She slowly started walking the way she had come, scrolling down the contacts on her phone. Her house was too far to walk. She'd reach by the end of the week, if she didn't stop in the middle with aching legs.

Sam sighed, he had almost managed to sneak out with a purpose. He looked at his wall for a moment before shaking his head. No, no he wouldn't stay, he'd leave. He pulled his jacket on and walked over to the window, opened it, and then climbed out. He shimmied down the small rope vines that were outside his window, then grinned at how sneaky he thought he was, before he turned and began to walk to the only place he thought he could belong. Ethan's.

"Hello? Chloe?"

Evie had decided to call Chloe after a lot of internal debate. Chloe had sort of an early curfew so she didn't want to call her because of that reason.

"Yeah?", Chloe whispered back. "Evie, I can't talk right now. There's been an emergency. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow. Love you!"

The line went dead before she could get a word in. Evie sighed and kept on walking.

(Wait, I just wrote that their house was too far away. So how can Sam walk to Ethan's house?)

(Maybe he should skateboard, then xD )

Sam's skateboard was left at the front gate. He hadn't used it in a while, which is why there were leaves scattered on top of it. He dusted it off, then set it on the floor, as he began to skateboard. The house was a way away indeed, but it was made a lot faster by the wheels, and the wind blew through his hair.

(Okay!)

*Time skip*

Evie started regretting all the athletic opportunities that she had missed. She should have gone to that hike that the school organized about one month ago, should've taken the swimming lessons with her brother and the bicycle racing that Chloe had suggested sounded like heaven compared to the long walk from Ethan's house to her house.

She had walked for fifteen minutes and her legs felt like they were about to fall off. But she wasn't even halfway there.

Sam was skating down the street, tapping his fingers to an imaginary beat, and watching the world go by as he went. That was, at least, until he saw his sister down the street, walking up his way. He slowed his skateboard down, and approached her slowly. "Evie."

Evie was too busy watching her steps to see Sam coming her way. When he called her name, she stumbled and nearly fell down.

"Sam", she said his name back, smiling nervously. "Wh-what are you doing here?"

She laughed nervously. "I told you. I was at that Ethnicity Club. Did you have, like, a brother instinct about where I am and come to pick me up?"

"No, actually, I was uh, heading somewhere." He said slowly, looking at her for a moment, before he looked around him, sort of itching to leave.

Evie narrowed her eyes.

"Actually, let me just tell you the truth", she said, wondering how he'd react.

"I went to visit Ethan", she started. That's it. She was going to tell him the truth this time. Albeit, with a bit of lie.... "I wanted to try some drugs. Since you do them so much, I thought I might give them a try."

Evie shrugged, inwardly smirking at her brother.

Sam stepped off his skateboard and grabbed her arm tightly, "Are you fucking crazy? Don't! Don't even go near Ethan! Don't try drugs and don't go near Ethan, and for Christs sake don't ever do something cos I've done it!" He was angry, but also worried for his sister.

She winced because of his grip but dared to ask,"Why?"

"He even told me that I'd be perfect for the gang!", Evie continued with fake excitement. "I had always thought gangs were cool. I didn't even know Ethan had one!"

Sam tightened his grip on his sisters arm, and glared at her. "Are you messing with me? There's no way that you'd be perfect in the- just shut up! Stop lying! What were you doing at Ethan's?!" He was becoming extremely frustrated.

"Shut up! Oh my God." He turned around and let go of her, "Why were you at Ethan's! I know it's not because you wanted to join a gang because you're not like that!"

"If you're not going to tell me why you joined all this trouble, then why should I?", Evie countered, then her eyes softened. "I've had enough of this bipolar-ism. I want the old Sam back!"

Sam glared at her, then picked up his skateboard, "I'm still the old Sam! There are just things you can't know, and I don't... I'll tell you in time, alright?!"
