Fantasy The World of Od

Kit pulled out her pan flute once more and started to play a light hearted tune as she skipped along the path.

Furattā coughed in her sleepm her skin began warming up, but not in a good way. She was beginning to develop a fever. Her body began shaking more again as she laid there.

~~~~~Saruka, Kingsdale, Green Dragon~~~~~
Feeling a tug on the end of her tail, she raised it up so she could see what it was. She then noticed that she had a young girl attached to the tip, apparently just a curious little tyke. "Well, hey there, what do you have?" She smiled, the kid wasn't hurting at all, and it was kind of nice to have someone notice how she was different and not be yelling at her at the same time. "Just don't try to take it off, alright? You're the second person in the last 24 hours to try to steal my tail." She turned back to the bar, sipping her drink, but swished her tail back and forth a few times, just to let the little girl chase it around.
Kitarus smiled "Thank you, It helps for quiet trips down long roads." she started playing once more
She unwrapped the bandages around her, frowning at the blood on the cloth. It wouldn't be any good to reuse these dirty bandages again. Her gaze shifted to the cave entrance, and moved to completely block her from view in case a guy came in. With that relatively taken care of, she moved the shirt up on the butterfly girl's back and noted the wounds. They didn't seem as bad as they were earlier, and had at least stopped bleeding. Dipping her fingers into the paste, she began to spread it over the wounds, trying to be light and careful with it. "By the way, what is your name?" The question was aimed at the blind woman, whom she was growing tired of having to constantly think of as just that, 'blind woman'.
Jeni looked up at the strange women and starred at her for a moment as she talked, take it? She just liked playing with it. Her attention was brought back to the swinging tail giggling some more a big smile on her face.
Richters attention was brought to a familiar laughter of a child. He turned his head and noticed Jeni, he sighed and walked over scooping her up and putting her on his shoulder "I cannot keep you out of trouble can i?" He laughed a little bit and looked at the woman "sorry about that miss"
"Aria, my name is aria, and she said her name was furatta I believe" she swallowed "how is she?, is she getting any better?"
Saruka smiled, "No problem, the kid was probably entertaining me as much as she was herself." She swished her tail back and forth a few more times, brushing the tip over Jeni's nose. "So, did you hear about the big to-do going on? apparently, some Necromancer is getting big for his britches and decided to declare war on the world. Heh! Some people." She took a large swig of her drink, smacking her lips at the refreshing taste as it went down. "I was just on my way to Broan to see if I could help out the war effort, gotta pay the bills somehow, eh?:
Chickadee heaed the news flying around town about the Necromancer. She took out Barry from her bag and cuddled him close to her. That didn't sound too good. Barry cuddled up to the bird girl. Chickadee continued to wander around Broan, hearing the news all over the place.
~Xerno, The Green Dragon - Kingsdale~
Xerno awoke with a start. He had felt a disturbance in magic, something was coming. He grabbed his staff and his coat and rushed out to Broan, muching on cookies along the way. It was a good thing that he was ascended, else he'd get tired of walking already. "I sincerely hope that I am not alone in this path to Broan, it would make a very boring trip." He chuckled, reaching for his pousch for another cookie.
The shape shifter was leaning against a tree in the outskirts of the forest. Her dark purple gaze drifted about the area she was in. Why didn't she ever find anything interesting? Maybe because she just wasn't easily amused by nothing, or nature. She could always burn something...Yet she wasn't in the mood one would call social or friendly because fire would surely draw attention from a nearby town which Lizzy was sure was quite close. She was actually tempted to walk in just to explore...Or steal. Lizzy stood up straighter and adjusted her blood-red hood, then she walked in the direction she thought the town was and once seeing it would lean against another tree, just observing the entrance.
Andrea Genis, Broan City, Westershire.
Andrea had no idea where to spend her money. It wasn't because she didn't know what to spend it on as it was more on not being able to decide which is more important. She was starving but at the same time her foot threatened to bend at a weird angle, surely there was a healer for cheap somewhere in the heart of Westershire, supposedly the largest nation in the land of Od. In fact, she wasn't even sure 10 gold could get her proper treatment or a decent meal.
Thinking back on it, she shouldn't have run into any complications on the way to Broan. Her friends had detailed her the easiest route from their small fringe town in the Far East to Broan. Resistance was supposed to be light and it was something "a child can follow wearing a blindfold and still arrive safely." It should have been a cakewalk for a member of the renowned Genis clan from the East, descendants of the warrior Shievah. Perhaps the gods above are challenging her, helping her get out of her brother's shadow.
She limped through the gates and received a lot of suspicious or worried glances from passersby yet none would dare talk to her. She would talk to them but grunts were the only things she was capable of at the moment. Still though, the question still persisted, to eat or to get treated?
In the end she chose to duck into a dirty looking in on the poorer side of Broan, hoping to get some sort of basic meal or even a quarter loaf of bread, anything to silence her hunger.
~Xerno, Broan City - Westershire~
No matter how many times he has come here, Xerno was still amazed by how big the place was. "Ahh...I still need a compass and a place to drink." He exclaimed. He sold of a few artifacts for some money and bought a rather pricey silver compass. He only had enough for a few meals. "I'll take what I can I guess..." He stepped into a shabby inn on the far side of the city. "Ah, hello, can I get something to eat?" He said as he sat on a table. His blue crystal staff magically standing.
As he was about to eat he saw a battered girl. "Can I get another on please, I feel like I'm about to have some company." He gestured her over to him as another plate was brought.
Andrea Genis, Broan City, Westershire.
Andrea spent a great deal of time trying to figure out what she could eat on 10 gold. Sure it could buy half an apple maybe but she didn't want to gamble on whether or not that half apple was fresh or rotten. Even for such a shabby inn on the poorer side of Broan the place still had a number of patrons in it. It wasn't that shabby either when one really looked at it. In fact, the place looked relatively clean, which would explain why she couldn't afford anything. It stood to reason that she started out somewhere small instead of the big city.
A little movement caught her eye, someone seemed to be beckoning her to come to him. Well she assumed it was male, the general below average lighting of the inn was something that needed rectifying in order to justify the food prices. Still it could just be that she isn't adjusted to the dark at all. Not like she had anything to lose, she limped her way toward the person beckoning her. A Blue haired boy in immaculate robes was seated at the table, a stark contrast to her torn clothes and generally bloody appearance. He had a staff, which meant that he could be one of those magic people she rarely saw around in the Far East or the really daring ones that fight with sticks.
"Is there something you need of me, Andrea Genis, sir?"
Here's to hoping he's loaded and would give her free food. She could spend her 10 gold then on whatever treatment she could afford.
~Xerno, Broan City - Westershire~
"Come, sit, dine with me." He gestured to the other plate. "I am in need of company, I've been traveling for so long an I need someone to talk to." He chuckled. "And you interest me, you seem to be connected to something that is no longer there." He gave a slight pause. "A shadow...of some sort..." He looked at her questioningly. "Do you know of any shadows?"
Andrea Genis, Some Inn, Broan City, Westershire.
She listened to what the man had to say and took a seat opposite him. First was the whole being interested in her, it made the blood run to her cheeks and out the wound on her face. That was a definite first. Then he began talking like any cryptic elder would, what exactly did he mean by 'Shadows', 'being connected' and all that nonsense. Clearly there was something more to this man than she had guessed. It piqued her curiosity.
"Okay, first of all, thank you for finding me interesting. Second, I don't quite comprehend what you are talking about, so could you explain that? Third, what's the food?"
Meat. She was hoping it would be meat, something delicious and juicy to sink her teeth into. Beef maybe with the fat all marbled or some roasted pork, even just a chicken breast would be nice.
~Xerno, Broan City - Westershire~
"Hmm...so you don't see..." He smiled when she asked about the food and gestured to the plates having an assortment of meats. "As you can see, we are having various meats." He smiled as his staff glowed gently. "You seem to be struggling to get out of a shadow. A shadow of someone you know..." His staff stopped glowing as he reached for his first bite. "I rather like your clothing, very unique." He said, referring to her clothes which looked good as new. Even her wounds were gone. "Aren't you going to eat?"
Andrea Genis, Broan City, Westershire.
He began answering her questions right away, though that little remark at the beginning kind of unsettled her. Just what was it that couldn't see? What was he referring to? Then he answered the most of important of the questions. What were they going to eat? There was no doubt that this man was loaded with gold.
She then saw his staff glow just before she was about to take a bite out an attractive looking slab of beef. It made her stop and it grabbed her attention, she was fixated on it while he began talking. However, the voice felt distant, detached from the world and muffled. Then the glowing stopped and she could feel something change in her.
The man made a remark on her clothing and she thought him crazy or sadistic to like something as torn up and bloody as she was. Except she wasn't, her clothes were mended, her wounds were sealed without a scar to show its existence and her foot didn't seem like it was going bend at an awkward angle. Just what was this man and could she learn his job? He then asked why she hasn't dug in yet.
"My clothes, just traditional warrior's garb from the Far East. Wait. How did you do that? Heal my wounds, mend my clothes without lifting a finger?"
She took a bite from that slab of beef while she stared at the blue haired person with pure curiosity. She waited for whatever response he had for her.
~Xerno, Broan City - Westershire~
Xerno just smiled mischevously, his eyes twinkling. "Really, how interesting..." Then he looked proud. "Magic my dear." He said as his staff dissolved into blue wisps before reforming once more. "Someone like me, actually no, let's make that specifically me, is capable of many great things." He leaned his chair back until it stood on two legs and remained still for quite a while before going back. "My name is Xerno Validifer." He leaned closely towards her, his blue eyes twinkling and making direct eye contact. "What do you believe I can do?"
"Please please please can we go Fenri?!" Laika begged. "Absolutely not." He replied firmly, eating a bowl of stew.
"But they might need us! We could shift and spy on people and they'd just think that we're wolves! And you could help them you're a fighter and you're a healer! Come on, please!"
"Not happening." He didn't even look at her this time.
"Why? You're just scared that...that you'll shift again. Well you'll never be able to control it if you stay cooped up here! We've got a gift we're meant for better than sitting here waiting hand on foot on people!" Fenri finally looked up at her, eyes blazing.
"Of course I'm scared Laika, and you're stupid not to be! Who the hell knows what this necromancer can do? You sure as hell don't! And yes maybe I am scared of shifting, because I don't want to turn into some feral little animal like you seem to be!" He was shouting at this point, but now he stopped. Maybe he'd gone too far. But really, it was her fault for angering him. He breathed out deeply and looked back at Laika. Her eyes shimmered, as if through a veil of tears. Without a word, she shifted, turned tail and ran.
Where she ran, she didn't know. She just did, paws pounding against the ground. Gravel and dust flew up behind her where she had been, and on lookers stared, but she didn't care, she just wanted to get away. Was she feral? It was something the twins had always worried about. Where was that boundary between elf and wolf? Where did their nature start shifting, from civilised to not? Fenri knew her best, he'd know if she was going that way. They'd heard stories of shifters losing their humanity to their beast form, becoming completely like them and unable to shift back. A beast with the cunning of a barely sentient but the mindset of an animal. Laika shook her head, now crossing into the surrounding forest. She slowed down and stopped at a clearing. It was cloudy at the moment, but it looked as if it would rain at any moment. Laika panted, breathless from the running. She knew she'd have to change back soon. Sometimes she dreaded it. It was excruciatingly painful the first few times she remembered doing to, but it got better with practice, however it times like those when her head was clouded full of doubts, the shift became just as painful again. She thought about Fenri. She'd probably hurt him somewhat. She should probably go back and apologise. She should probably put all thoughts of this quest behind her. They could deal with this necromancer. Probably. Still, a doubt niggled in her mind. She could help in a quest. She wasn't totally useless like Fenri managed to make out all the time. Maybe she should do it, and prove him wrong. But then he'd be worried. Her mind bounced back and forth in this way for some time. Anyone looking on would have seen a silver wolf looking anguishedly (is that a word?) towards each paw in turn. Eventually she made her mind up and stood up, ready to run again.
Fenri stared after her as she went, defeatedly. Maybe he had gone too far with that one. But, then again, maybe she needed a firm hand to bring her to her senses. He sighed deeply and sat down again. His rage had gone now, and ironically he felt the calmest that he had all week. He cursed her under his breath. He knew that she would be gone to join the quest, without a doubt. He should probably go after her. She would get herself hurt otherwise. Then he cursed again, this time more vehemently. To catch up with her, he would have to shift. He was the faster of the pair and could easily do it, if not for the shift. He stood up, sighed, sat back down again, losing conviction. Then stood up again. His face creased with frustration and he muttered curses to himself. He would have to close the inn indefinitely. "Damn it Laika." Fenri gathered his things, some food and money and whatnot, and stored it into the enchanted pouch. "Lucy as soon as the last customer has gone, shut up the inn and go home." He turned away from her and walked outside, breathing in the fresh air deeply. He steeled himself, and began the shift. His yelp wasn't quite elvish but it wasn't beastly either. The pain rippled through his body as he felt bones and muscles contract and shift. His ears became more pointed and his nose grew longer. He yelped as the pain magnified and he dropped to all fours, completing the shift. He set off at a run towards Broan with a heavy heart.
She kept her mouth shut and her ears open as he answered her question and began a little demonstration. It an entertaining light show to say the least but it was the kind of parlor tricks her brother would deem situationally useful, which was his way of saying it was useless. If it could reinforce a blade, imbue it with fire or stop projectiles in mid-air, then it would have been quite the power. However, it wasn't, so this isn't exactly the kind of job Andrea was keen on training for.
"Thank you for the spectacle, Ser Validifer. Now for your question, I think that you could buy me more food or lend me some gold to get a more decent weapon? How about some spare armor I could put over my clothes or maybe cook, like a proper man?"
She asked a little innocently before dropping any and every social grace and just rabidly dig into the slab of beef that was strategically placed in her hands. She hadn't eaten for a day and a half so the prospect of eating was more attractive than any parlor trick this man does for now. even if he did look a little charming. She would be infinitely impressed if he could conjure more delicious food though. After all, frolicking among cityfolk was not on her to do list. It was making headway into adventures, quests and bounties that brought her to Westershire's own capital city.
"I sincerely think that you could buy your own." He chuckled. He paid for the both of them and went out. "You should check your coins again. After all,
fortune..." He emphasized. "Favors the brave, no matter what kind." She would soon find her 10 coins replaced with a gold bar. 'Really?' He thought. 'I'm glad I found her, she wouldn't get proper treatment with that amount.' He was nearly out the door. "You may follow me if you wish, an ascended being like me tends to get into trouble, you may find it exciting." As if to prove a point lightning burst from his staff and burned a chair to a crisp.
He said what he needed to say and then paid for the both of them. Honestly, this man was too friendly but she couldn't exactly sense any malice from him. If anything, he was just too confident in himself not that that was anything to be worried about. He said something about fortune and she could feel her pouch get heavier. In fact when she looked down to see check her pouch, it was misshapen it wasn't deflated at all but took the form of a rectangle. She opened it to see a gold bar, easily worth 10 times her previous funds. Just who was the guy? She followed him on his way out before he looked back at her and began speaking obnoxiously.
He basically begged her to join him on his adventures. To make a show of it, he cast his first useful spell, which was a streak of lightning that vaporized a chair. She could hear the owner screaming something along the lines of "You obnoxious punk! Pay for the chair right now!" or some such. She felt the ground shake a little and could hear the footsteps getting louder and louder. No doubt the owner was a giant of a man. When the owner was close enough, she turned and bowed her head while raising up the gold bar.
"I am sure this would cover the expense?"
She felt her hands get lighter and saw the big man walk back behind the counter. However, his glare was still fixed on Mr. Validifer. She turned back and strode past Mr. Validifer and took a moment to reflect on herself.
"I understand..." He held out his hand. "Which is why I'm going to ask you this, do you wish to learn the basics of magic from an ascended being?" He paused. "No, that won't do, I sound obnoxious..." He cleared his throat. "Do you want to learn magic from me, Andrea Genis?" He paused once more. "Don't expect the complicated stuff though, I'll only teach you one or two spells. And no need to worry about weighing me down, all I do is travel anyways." He chuckled.
"If you'll have me then. My brother could do magic before or so he said on a letter he wrote to our family about his adventures. That was a long time ago and now I think it is time for me to look for him somewhere in Od. Hopefully he's still in here. About this ascended being part though, what is an ascended being?"
If this man offered to be her mentor in learning the arcane artes then she better jump on the opportunity before she misses it. Andrea was nothing if not impulsive, she wouldn't shy away from any and every challenge that gets in her way. It is all in the effort to become like her brother and find him somewhere in Od. If magic was to be her first discipline then she would welcome it with open arms. Perhaps she may even transcend her brother, become the better one of the two. She took his hand in her own, staring him down with that determined fire in her eyes.
"When do we begin?"
