TheMothMan
the man, the myth, the moth
An aggressively colorful space eighties roleplay in space.
Historical Context
Long ago before Tlaloc had achieved interstellar travel, the planet was divided into different countries. This system worked, until the planet was visited by unknown invaders looking to colonize the planet. The war that proceeded was devastating. The countries couldn’t fight off the invaders individually, but were too divided amongst themselves to band together and fight off their enemy. The planet was on the brink of collapse when a member of the royal family from a small country stepped forward and united the planet with a mysterious artifact called the Xentehua. United, the planet was able to fend off the invaders. After that, the planet functioned as a whole under a monarchy. Generations passed and the Xentehua was lost, becoming little more than a myth, and Tlaloc was colonized by the ever growing Galactic Empire. The monarchy remains in place, but holds no political power and is more of a ceremonial institution.
Since then, the Empire has grown more and more powerful. There are no limits to their power or their greed. The Empire’s policies have become more and more authoritarian in recent years. As the regime shifts, a rebellion movement has gained traction and Tlaloc’s state is quickly losing stability. The populous is divided among those who support planetary independence and those who support the empire. Protests and violence from both sides are common.
Plot Summary
Tlaloc’s political turmoil has drawn the eyes of the Rebellion leader. She sees the weakened state as an opportunity to take Tlaloc from the empire, but the planet needs to be united first. The rebel leader has it on good authority that the artifact once used to bring the planet together still exists, but only a member of the royal family can find it. She has assigned a trusted rebel soldier to assist the next in line for the crown of Tlaloc on a mission to find Xentehua and bring it back to the home world. They have hired a crew of mercenaries to transport them on their quest.
Locations
Tlaloc
Tlaloc is a terrestrial planet. Its surface is 90% water, and most land is swampy wetlands. Due to the scarcity of land, most surface property is reserved for the rich and influential. The indigenous people of this planet are amphibious, though since joining the empire many different species from a variety of planets have immigrated to Tlaloc due to its bustling trading economy. Cities are built from the sea floor up, half emerged in the ocean, half above surface. Tlaloc's location in it's star system makes it a highly strategic location for a military base.
Zolteo
Controlled by the empire, Zolteo has made a name for itself in the mining and industrial markets. Being a gas giant, Zolteo is rich with a valuable gas known as Xyanthium. The planet has built its economy around mining this gas, and its capital city, Xyan, has since developed into a bustling metropolis. The floating city is sectioned into layers. The uppermost layers are the most desirable, as they are farthest from the planet’s toxic core, because of this cost of living is higher and they mostly house politicians and powerful businessmen. Price and air quality go down as you go into the lower layers, but this hasn’t stopped Zolteo from developing a reputation for a killer club scene. Miners and empirical soldiers alike travel to the lower layers of the city to blow off steam after a long shift. The party atmosphere has attracted some unsavory characters, and the lower layers also house a prosperous black market that boasts everything from drugs to slave trade.
Xolotl
Torus shaped planet (it’s a big donut!). The exterior is desert and mostly daylight, the interior is also desert but mostly night and thunderstorms. Has two moons. Semi-post-apocalyptic scavenger wasteland. It’s main natural resource is petroleum, which is considered an obsolete fuel source now. Because of this, the empire never took an interest in the planet and it has remained independent. Technology on Xolotl is a hybrid of diesel mechanics and intergalactic space technology.
