Fantasy The Spirit Inside ~ Forest and Village

The Old Palsiet was not convinced by the Birds lies "I know your hate, but I assure you I am no human. Your hate runs deeper then I know, but I will always understand for it is the same Hate that burns when I remember he who betrayed my kind, and caused for the gods to try and Exterminate my race, worst of all he still lives, he was the one who created corruption amongst my kind, he was the one who showed the wizards what kind of dark magics they could create and he was the one who started the Great war of Beings. In a strange and twisted way Kay^Haas is the one who led to your fate, and also to many of mine." he said, his face cold and emotionless with grief, he understood what the Bird was feeling, but he could not help him, this was a personal fight.
"Kay^Haas?" Flint muttered.

Something was very familiar about that name. Did the old wizard say it once? Flint was not sure but if this Kay^Haas had inadvertently caused his suffering then the towering Palsiet was partially to blame, at least in the bird's stubborn mind. The crow knew he had to change the subject if he wanted to deceive Kyngerz.

"What do you have there? Is that a book of some kind?"

The Palsiet new that he had now made himself a target of the birds wrath, but this he would need time to change, so he allowed it to change his subject "Yes, I keep many to make notes of my travels, ever since I thawed after the Fer^Skyst. Every journey, every noble deed I have done to counteract the Sins Kay^Haas had caused to defile our gods, or things he has done to control or destroy others. These books contain my entire life, but only illegible to Palsiet, as our Scripts are unknown to all others and much of our ancient knowledge is unteachable." He explained, closing his book and returning it to one of his many pouches.

Dia stood back up as she finished her meal. It was getting late and she would much rather spend her next night somewhere warm. She didn't mind sleeping in the ofrest trees at all. It was just the cold that bothered her. She began to run through the forest towards the town. Swinging on branches as she passed them she was feeling much better after getting some food and energy in her body. Finally she stopped at a dirt road that separated the forest from the town ahead. Now where would she be. She wasn't too concerned with how she would find the witch. Stepping over the road and into the town she began passing homes. There were children out playing and they stopped to stare at her as she walked by. She just smiled and kept walking. She wasn't foolish enough to go around asking where the witch lived. So she kept scanning each building she passed. As she was walking she sensed something behind her and she turned around quickly to see a rather large taby cat staring at her. She gasped, not because of the cat, but because of the home she now saw behind the cat, that was not there before. It was an old looking home much older than anything else around. There were wind chimes hanging on almost every inch of the house. and Now she could hear them ringing and twinkling, but she couldn't hear that a moment ago. "Ahh a concealment charm She must know I'm here for her."

Dia walked up to the door of the house and knocked softly. The door swung open and the cat scurried in before her. "Hello?"...

It was dimly lit with curtains and taperies hanging all over. There was a lingering smell of incense and a smokey atmosphere.

"Come here girl" Dia turned to her right to see an old woman standing in a doorway to another room.

"B-Bindy?! Bindy is that you!!" Dia couldn't believe her eyes "Bindy!!!" She ran to the familiar face and embraced her. She didn't want to let go. "I have so many questions! Why are you here? Why did you leave the island? How lon---"

"Hush now. We will have time for questions later. Now you must listen to these instructions so that you can retrieve the ingredient you need. Once you get it, bring it back to me my dear. And we will have it sent home."

"But how--"

"Listen now. There is a Temple, in the forest, that is where you will find it."

"But what exactly--"

The old witch cut her off "Take this pouch. Anything you put in it, only you will be able to take out. When you get to the temple, deep in the ruins there are precious stones. One of those stones belonging to our people. It is red like fire. The only one left. Very important Dia. You must get this stone. If it shall break, you must gather every shard. You must. And put it in this pouch."

"Yes ma'am. I understand." Dia's mind rushed with wonder. Her mother hadn't told her that Bindy was who she was meeting, nor about the stone, or what its purpose was. She only knew that this was very important. She was ready.

"There are many a dark creatures in that forest. Maybe you have encountered some already?" The old witch shuffled around her cluttered home gathering things and stuffing them into a sack. "These items will help you along the way.. Oh and here" She handed her a small spellbook. Dia opened it and her eyes widened it seemed as though the pages were never ending. She closed it and placed it in her sac.

"Thank You Bindy. I will retrieve the stone and come back."

"That bird and his hate are gonna lead me to a grave, sometime in the next millenia." Belisair wa ambling through the forest in much less of a huff, he really didn't have the temperment for tempers, "I can understand Flint's feelings, I really do, but why can't he just trust me a little? I would never let anyone hurt him."

Belisair was also angry with himself. Suddenly, he was quickly becoming attached to these people he just met. It had only been a day, and Belisair couldn't even imagine tomorrow without Flint, let alone the rest of his life.

"What am I going to do Zeph? This is hastily getting out of hand."

Belisair turned around and began the trek back to his companions, as he walked, a breeze brought him the lovely sounds of singing from some far off place, "Thanks Zeph."

Lila stumbled, letting out a soft cry as her foot got caught on a tree root. Her hand reaching out quick as a striking snake, to grab at the trunk of the tree she tripped on, steadying herself before she actually fell. A light frown on her lips and she stood there for a moment, looking down at the root that had nearly made her fall. She took a deep breath, and with one last glance in the direction she had come from, Lila started moving again.

She was cautious, but not very quiet. Leaves crunched, and twigs snapped under her barefeet as she moved. Those green eyes were wide, and trying to watch almost every direction at once. Lila wasn't sure what she should or could do if something dangerous attacked her. The Yuan-ti would probably just run away, like she had done before when the other slaves had been attacked by wolves.

"Oh, that is riveting. A real page turner. Ha ha!"

The bird cackled at his poor attempt at a joke hoping to keep Kyngerz in the dark about his sinister motives. It was disappointing that the notebook could only be deciphered by Palsiets, Flint could have discovered useful secrets inside of it, not that he could read in the first place.

"Well, I think we both have learned some valuable information about each other and I hope that we will soon become faithful allies. So don't worry about letting me know of any weaknesses you have- that I may be a more helpful colleague in battle."

Flint smiled, trying to look as submissive as possible.

After getting back in time to eaves drop on the two's exchange, two things were abundantly clear to Belisair:

  1. The Palsiet had sensed his approach from the change in the wind, "I will never be able to sneak up on him Zephyr. Even in a wind storm he could pick you all out of a line-up, I'm sure."
  2. Flint was obviously faking mirth, but he was making an effort, so Belisair would forgive him if he could manage to control himself.

Belisair made his presence (to Flint, at least) known by stepping into the glade, "I see you two have come to some form of truce. Good."

Belisair walked up to Flint and deftly picked him up, tucking him into his arms like a small child would a teddy bear before sitting on the log facing Kyngerz's, "That's enough you conniving crow", he said with content.

"Now now, no struggling. I have a gift for you, IF you can promise never to be so mean to any ally we may have for as long as we can count them as one." Allowing the blackbird a moment to consider, Belisair turned to Kyngerz, "We'll be heading towards Thoranhall to reach a temple just beyond the forests surrounding it. We'll leave soon and hopefully reach there before dark."

"I would so enjoy a bath and a bed. Sleeping in the forest so many nights in a row had left me covered in filth."

His appearance was perfectly pristine, not even a speck of dirt on his robes even though he had slept on the forest floor. Only a creature with a highly developed sense of smell would notice that he didn't smell as sweet as he normally would:lotus flowers upon a moonlit breeze.

Flint reacted surprising well from Belisair's embrace. A few days earlier he would had thought it demeaning on his ego but now he giggled while squirming in the Sylph's gentle arms. His feathers perked up at the word 'gift'.

"A gift? Goodie! I'll be a good egg. I promise."

The crow didn't consider these words a lie. He would be a little angel. Nevertheless, if someone stood between him and Belisair there would be hell to pay. Flint's eyes fixated on Kyngerz. A red spark flashed within them.

((See? This is hilarious already.))

Belisair looked down at his "good egg" with a smile.

"When I felt the enchantment on your spear break, I decided to make you one with a MUCH more permanent lifespan. It doesn't have a head yet, though you can still use it as a battle staff. Also, as a reminder, combat enchantments are made with the purpose of keeping the wielder alive. They can't heal wounds unless they are made using soul stones or god-touched, but they will burn their own reserves to fuel your own when low. The transfers of energy is at a loss though because the magic energy in items is diluted, therefore much less powerful than life energy." Belisair paused to let that sink in before continuing.

"If you are exhausted while fighting, the enchantment you use will be drain at a higher rate, sometimes as much as four times the normal rate. So always try to be rested before entering battle. Understand? You aren't a true warrior and I don't want you to endanger yourself without properly Belisair approved tools."

Knowing that the bird was probably not listening to half of what he had just said, Belisair reached into an impossible pocket and handed Flint the beautifully etched and inlaid rod. Having had the time for the enchantment to settle and take hold, the rod was definitely shining in at least two planes.

Hearing something akin to a gasp, Belisair looked up at Kyngerz. The Palsiet looked a bit taken aback.

"Normally I wouldn't be able to walk after doing such a high level enchant, but I had enough stored mana for it."

Addressing them both, "I even managed to "knack" the binding portion so that the spear would attune to Flint, and work only for him or with his permission."

There was definitely more than just a trace of pride in the Sylph's voice. Of course he had cheated by using an ancient rune word from his travels for the base of the working, but he doubted that anyone but an ancient rune smith would notice.((Kyngerz is supposed to notice. How he reacts is up to you.))

"Oh one last thing," he was showing off this point and knew it as he snapped his fingers lockign the enchantment in, "there now it's yours Flint." And it no longer shone like a beacon in his second sight.

"Thanks Belisair!" the giddy crow said ecstatic about his new 'toy'.

He was especially pleased with the fact that the Palsiet could not use it. Flint grabbed his gift and scampered to a nearby tree to test the staffs strength while Belisair and Kyngerz talked to each other.

It came out of nowhere, for the day seemed to be perfectly clear even at the very moment. Without warning, a lightning bolt flew from the sky and struck a specific spot on the ground with a loud Crack! Just as soon as it had happened, it was over, and only the rising smoke was indication of what just happened there. For a minute or two, the earth smoldered from the heat, then something began to move from underneath. Struggling like a wild animal, a hand clawed out of the dirt in an attempt to get free. With the desperation of a drowning man, the rest of the body began to make its way towards the surface. Finding a nearby root to grab hold of, he clenched his hands onto it and pulled himself up, gasping for breath.

The Palsiet had decided to stay silent and listen, his iced blue eyes floating from the crowd to the face, to the spear. And back again.

Old magic had been used to craft it, not quite as old as him, but these runesites were made whilst he was frozen Nist buv unera Pir (Where did he get that) he thought to himself, not much survived so many years of war and destruction but this sylph was something special.

The crow obviously seemed happy with its new weapon and more so with the fact that the Palsiet wouldn't be able to use it. This of course was nothing that would bother him, a Palsiet was a weapon master with his own weapons, but would fight like a child with anything else. Example, if the Palsiet were given a morning star he would most likely cave in his own skull before landing a hit on an opponent.

He sighed as the bird moved off to play with its new toy, he looked at the sylph "I fear that we will not part aseries friends. The Crows hatred runs too deep, only he can forgive one for the sins of many." He said taking out his sword and taking out a pearl white stone as he began to sharpen it "we should start moving soon, I don't like the way the air tastes right now, something is amiss." He added sheathing his blade and putting away the stone.

Belisair looked at the Palsiet with a sad glimmer in his eyes, "I know he's faking it, but I hope that spending time around you withour worrying for his safety or mine will be good for him. I care for him more than I should and it boggles my mind."

Beliair took a moment to listen to the winds, "You are right. The air here is wrong...somehow. We will dapart shortly."

Flint had finished walloping the pine tree's roots into splints. He now used his weapon to slay Elephant Beetles, on a nearby stump, so he could lick out their nutritious insides. When his tiny stomach was fulled to the brim he listened in on Belisair and Kyngerz friendly conversation. Belisair was grinning at the massive Palsiet. Jealousy shown on the birds face. The crow didn't like how quickly the two were getting along.

"Ah Flint, if you're done slaying innocent Elephant Beetles, we should be heading out. We are going to be heading north and the trees hang pretty low there so I was thinking we could work on your flying as we go." Belisair had now developed an unintentionally special smile just for Flint; it literally leaked happiness.

"Kyngerz, we'll be heading out in 15mins, if that is no problem." He swooped down and scooped Flint up taking several moments to examine his wings, "Your wings are perfectly fine, if a tad bit weak."

Belisair then reavhed into an impossible pocket, pulling out a roll of black twine made from some kind of hair. He used a length of the twine to tie the staff to Flints back in such a way that Flint could remove and replace it easily by manipulating the webbed pouch. After using the entire roll and welding the ends by pressing a fire stone to them, he had Flint stretch out his wings to ensure they wouldn't impede his movements. "How's that little brother? Better?"

Kyngerz nodded and stood up making sure he had all his things before he approached the bird, "You cannot fly? Is that what such Captivity has done to you? I am sorry that your fate has led to such, but through practice you can fly as it is in your Knihrst, in your bones" The Palsiet said, he would need to be cautious with this one as his hate would lead yo much danger for the old Palsiet.

"Yeah, whatever. Let's just get the hell out of here!"

Flint rolled his eye's at the concerned tone of Kyngerz. If leaving meant that Kyngerz would stop talking to Belisair then he wanted to go immediately.

Lena quietly woke up in her treehouse, as she yawned, stretching her arms. It was yet another day, and she really would love to take a swim. She knew just the place for it: A lake nearby her tree, that was deep enough for her to go exploring it every once in a while. She slowly changed into her usual clothing: a white dress without sleeves. After she finished, she climbed down from the treehouse, and slowly started walking towards the lake, humming quietly.

"Flint, please." This was going to be real trial.

"Kyngerz you can lead the way. I'm sure you're more than capable of following the wind. Zephyr, if you would." The breezepivked up and led to the north.

"Now Flint as we walk, I want you to leap and flap towards the branches above us. You wont make it at first, but I'm sure we'll make some form of progress, alright?"

Looking to Kyngerz and nodding, "Let's go."

Kyngerz nodded and began to lead the way through the forest towards the town. He had drawn his bow just incase, not for the sake of danger instead to fire at trees to keep the Crow from plummeting. Sure, he had no love for the bird as it seemed to hate him, but he had no choice but to hope for the bird to trust him and befriend him, after all he had more hate for the Sinner Kay^Haas than any being that had ever lived.

The man spat out a mouthful of dirt, then groggily stood up as he eyed the forest around him. Dirty from head to toe, he looked exactly like what he was, somebody who had crawled out of his own grave. Leaning against a tree, he tried to remember anything about the events leading up to this moment, but kept drawing a blank. This was it, this was all he knew, digging out of the ground and standing here, his entire life before him was apparently gone. Hoping to find answers anywhere, the zombie moved forward through the undergrowth as he searched for civilization. He only paused when he approached a clearing, and saw a figure moving through the trees a distance away. Knowing nothing else, he moved towards her quietly, not sure what to do once he reached her.

The crow, using his talons to carry his weapon, flapped his little wings with all his might. Managing to grab hold of the tree branched he triumphantly pulled himself up.

"Did you see that Belisair?!" he said beaming down at his friend and enemy.

Flint skipped across the tree limb to show off for the Sylph all the while hoping Kyngerz was pissed off at his taunts. Without a thought for his own safety, he suddenly leaped from the tree flapping his wings haphazardly. He had gone too far.

"DAMN!"

The bird was about to fall head first on top of a pile of jagged rocks.

Kyngerz Responded almost instantly, letting loose an arrow for the crow to perch on before he could fall to injury. Instead of waiting to see how the bird would respond he simply continued onward with his journey, after all he wanted to reach the town before nightfall.
