Fantasy The Spirit Inside ~ Forest and Village

Lena looked up at Schmendrick, with a scared expression tuggling on her face.
"I... Something dangerous is coming to this town... "It" wants to.. increase it's numbers with all those who live here... or stay here" She exclaimed, her voice trembling from fright.
Schmendrick thinks for a second and then shakes his head. "It's alright Lena, it was probably just a nightmare. I get them all the time. You should try and get some rest." Schmendrick knew it wasn't just a nightmare. He could feel it to. But a Lena needed rest and worrying about the possible impending doom was not a good way to rest. Freud Looked at the magician with a worried expression. He could feel something coming and he knew Schmendrick could too.

"It... It was so real..." Lena said, shivering lightly, as she slowly lied her head down on the pillow again.

After watching Lena go back to sleep the magician moves to the window and opened up the curtains. The low light of the sun set barely illuminating the dark room. In an hour or two it would be night. Closing the curtains again Schmendrick turned to look at Lena's sleeping figure in the low light. He wanted so badly to find whatever it was that was coming but he couldn't leave her alone. Instead Schmendrick went back to his chair and held onto his lute tightly. His fingers lay still but tensed and ready to conjure up a spell for whatever dared threaten them.

Belisair had the Inn in shight when he felt It. He gasped and stumbled as an ancient memory was called to his mind.

"Void. A part of Void. It has come upon us once again, and it grows."

Belisair dashed towards and into the Inn, seeking out the one person who was old enough to decipher this memory. He flew with a frantic wind.

"Kyngerz, It is coming. What do we do?"

Belisair had never before felt such fear, such dread. It was the despair of his people calling out from the past, through him. The Sylph had never been so visibly frazzled before; his perfectly coifed hair showed hints of frizz; this was serious.

This thing that he felt was disrupting the Aer and it was affecting him badly. The winds flocked to him like frightened children to their mother. Their presence within the confined space of the Inn was causing quite the scene and disturbing the Inn's more mundane patrons.

Someone screamed very loudly, it jolted Lila from her thoughts, blinking she looked around. Some of the other patrons were looking around to, the scream had come from upstairs. She thought it might have sounded like Lena, but Lila wasn't entirely sure, as she had been so deep in thought. Those green eyes did land on Constantine though, noticing that he no longer had his staff, but now had a small dragon draped around him. It was a very cute dragon, and Lila smiled lightly at them.

Before she could really do much more, Belisair came rushing into the building. Winds surrounding him, almost as if flocking to him out of fear. Something was definitely wrong, Lila could almost taste the fear and darkness on the wind that rushed and whipped about as it sought Belisair for protection. She licked her lips slightly, though she was mostly trying to get a taste of the air like a snake might. Something was definitely off, but Lila did not move.

"L- Lena... It- revealed itself to me... Uh... Sorry, I- I feel a little weak. This powerful entity spoke a Name. I couldn't quite make it out but its using this Name as a virus to control the living... I guess it doesn't have the ability to affect Spirits. However, if any creature of earth hears it, they will be consumed and become enslaved to the corrupt entity. Don't listen to anyone who has been infected by it. They will speak its Name to you and you will be one of them. The citizens of Thoranhall must not hear its Name or they too will serve the entity."

"It's going to be a tough battle. You will need more healing power if you seek to help your friends. Since you can hear my voice
I may be able to grant you some of my own magic to strengthen yours. Unfortunately this will weaken me. I will not be able to communicate with you for awhile... Please! Don't forget about me or Flint. Protect the people and the animals of Thoranhall from This Name... and above all else, be safe Lena!"

Hearing the distress coming from the downstairs Schmendrick shot up from his chair. He rushed over to Lena and tried to shake her awake.

"Lena we need to go. Something is very wrong." The magician gently shook the elf's shoulder. He had a feeling there would be blood shed soon. In fact he could smell it in the air. Something was off but he couldn't quiet place a finger on what it was. @JJKab

Kyngerz, who was brought to the inn by Constantine to rest a while was in one of the rooms upstairs, sharpening his blades as he felt the presence of the name as well "We need to either leave or fight, some of us can fight off this thing but others shall be taken by it. I would prefer to keep Constantine here, his sanity has returned and he is the most powerful mage I have seen, however he needs to take the others far away via a portal, they need a safe haven. Lena needs to go, as does this shmendrick character, im not sure if Lila would leave as well but i cannot promise her safety from them. " he said standing up and heading downstairs with belisair, giving his oldest friend a nod.

Constantine finished his ale just as the palsiet came down stairs, he felt the presence of danger in the air as well and knew what he had to do. He opened another portal, these ones seeming more stable then his insane ones as one could see a meadow and a a large ruin through it. "
Bard, Elf and Snake girl, Come with me, all that have a weak mind must leave now or perish. Something is coming and this is the only possible way out. If you choose to stay you must be warned that at any sign of mental weakness you may be killed by your own friends, even their sanity may give way." The mage said, folding his arms across his chest as he waited for those who felt unsafe to come with him through the portal.

Lena jolted from her sleep again, as the voice talked to her again. She looked a bit frightened at the bard, as she nodded, quickly standing up. After that, she went towards the exit of the room, and down the stairs.

She looked at everyone, as the magician was finishing his talk... He called out Lena and Lila, along with Schmendrick.. She knew that whatever it was out there, it could change her in a matter of seconds. She looked at Constantine.

"W-Where are we going?!" She asks.

She licked her lips slightly, though she was mostly trying to get a taste of the air like a snake might. Something was definitely off, but Lila did not move.

Lila stood when Kyngerz came down and Constantine made a portal. Something dangerous was coming, the portal was the only safe way out. Her nose scrunched up for a moment, what about helping Lena to help Flint? Those green eyes turned to Belisair, and what of him? He would surely escape through the portal with them, right? Everyone could escape together, and then they could get back on track and on with their missions of helping each other. Lila didn't move. That tongue flicked out between her lips again. The air tasted dangerous, but there were other things as well, the Yuan-ti didn't think Belisair and Kyngerz would escape via portal.

Lena came down, and Lila finally moved. She darted towards Lena.
"Somewhere...somewhere safe. We must go through the portal, Lena." Lila's voice was firm, there was a hint of fear in the tone, but it wasn't like the usual fear when she spoke to people. This was a fear that was full of concern for her friends. She knew there was nothing she could do to help, she would just get in the way, she couldn't fight, she was ultimately useless. The only way she could help was to go through the portal and pray to whatever deities, that her friends who did stay and fight would be kept safe.

So many strange and overwhelming things had been happening since she met these people, it frightened Lila, but she didn't regret knowing any of them. Some of these events had forced her to grow in ways she hadn't been sure she was ready for, and now it seemed like another event was happening. Those green eyes found Kyngerz and Belisair again, and Lila smiled reassuringly at the two, before she grabbed Lena by the hand and led her through the portal.

Lena staggered a bit, as Lila grabbed her hand and led her through the portal.

"Please, stay safe" She gave a quick glance towards Constantine, before going through the portal with Lila, hoping that they would be safe.

Belisair followed Kyngerz silently. He was preoccupied with calming the winds, so that they wouldn't damage anything in the Inn. Now that he had gotten over the initial shock, he was back in control of himself; his hair was flawless once more. His face was expressionless as Lena an Lila stepped through the portal. He almost wanted comfort the Yuan-ti before she left, but decided that it would change nothing.

"It would seem that we are going to attempt and engagement with this entity. Against all reason, we are going off to do battle with a presence that struck fear far deeper into the hearts of my people than anything the First Frost could ever hope to accomplish."

Belisair had addressed Kyngerz, Constantine, and Schmendrick, who seemed to have no intention of entering the portal. He allowed only resignation to shine through as he spoke.

"Unless someone has an idea of for how we are going to face this problem, I'll go and prepare my more... powerful enchantments, for battle."

Belisair began tapping into his mana deeply, in preparation for the imminent manaburning battle.

Schmendrick ran downstairs with Lena. As the magician stumbled into the bar he looks around the room. Kyngerz, Belisair, Constantine and Lila were already there. They must have sensed it too. He watched as Constantine opened a portal, this one looking significantly more stable then the others. Constantine had suggested that he step through the portal as well but the funkromancer shook his head. The man's air seemed to have changed. His aura was more stern, and almost unnervingly calm.

"I will not run. That is not the way of the Red Hot Swamis." Schmendrick found himself seated on the bar cross legged, while he tuned his lute. He closed his eye's, silently meditating to himself until Belisair spoke up. Schmendrick opened one eye and watched as Belisair collected himself.

"While I know nothing of this entity personally, I can see memories of It and it is born from a darkness far blacker than the space between stars. Before you ask if I know how to defeat It, I do not how, nor can I find a memory towards that end."

Belisair halted his drawing up of mana to clear the atmosphere of its presence.

"What I know, is that unti recently, this entity had been contained somehow. It managed to weaken it binds and escape. It has grown in size and power, but I cannot decipher It methods. My only hope right now, is to focus on repelling It from the village and protect the innocents."

Constantine spoke to Lena through the portal "Behind the ruins, about 3 miles south is a cottage, stay there until we return. If we cannot you will know" the mage said and he closed the portal, his pet dragon blowing a puff of smoke out of his nostrils "Lawrence and I will create some barriers, knowing a bit about hive minds I suppose they will take the minds of the citizens hostage to get to us, This may become our last stand" he said his pupils widened to consume the whites of his eyes before they began to glow purple. "lignum et lapidem, tertium est custodíre, obiectu mentis" he chanted over and over again, everything wooden in the tavern that belonged to the tavern slowly turning into a dark stone.

Kyngerz closed his eyes in preparation, the air becoming cold as ice grew over his armor, creating a thick layer which seemed light yet durable as extra protection from the unknown attacks "
We must be careful, I do not know exactly what we will face once the Fueryk, the sun sets, but it will not be good." he said, sitting down on one of the newly changed stone chairs to wait.

"Alright, the south should be this way.." She exclaimed, pointing towards the direction they were going to head. Since she was an elf, she had really good memory of the terrain.

Schmendrick inhaled deeply. He knew instantly what they were talking about. Honestly it should have been apparent to him earlier. 'I didn't want it to be true but no matter how far I pushed it out of my mind it couldn't change the truth. Why has it broken free now? Damn it all.' Schmendrick hops off the bar satisfied with the tuning of his lute. He clears his throat to get the groups attention. "In order to fight this thing I need you all to rid your minds of what you thought you once new. Your concepts of good and evil are null as far as this thing is concerned. It is an old entity known as The Name, a being from before time or space. A being from somewhere else. Probably some forgotten dimension. I can explain more later, assuming we survive tonight, but what you all need to know is that you can't listen to them. There will be people that look like civilians but they're not. They no longer live but have become the name. If you listen to the name or read the name there is a good chance you will be taken over by the name. You will no longer be yourself, simply a capsule for the name. Kill anyone who isn't acting human. That's the only advice I can give you. I wish I could explain more to you but we're running out of time." Just then a scream could be heard from across town. Schmendrick eyes wide and wild, moves over to a table and snatches the candle. He throws it into the air and lets it hover for a brief second. After a moment or two the candles wax begins to liquefy and melt. With a couple hand gestures the magician forms the liquid into ear plugs and the wax hardens. He passes them out to Belisair, Kyngerz and Constantine but leaves none for himself. He looks everyone up and down and then smiles warmly. His happy go lucky demeanor returning once more. He strums on his loot before running out the door.

Meanwhile...

Finally night had fallen. The twinkling of stars and the light of the moon were all that illuminated the streets of Thoranhall. On the edge of the town and the woods, the name waited. It was ready to strike. With the addition of this town's population and the powerful magical beings it would finally be able to return to the darkness. Slowly the name stumbled out of the woods and into the streets of Thoranhall. A lady who had been walking home saw the group of what she thought were people come form the woods, she starred confused by the spectacle. They all seemed to be mumbling to themselves but she couldn't make out what. "Excuse me can I help you?" They continued to approach her. She watches on but as they approach she see's there damaged and dirtied bodies. "Oh my gods! Should I fetch you all a doctor? Where did you come from? Please how can I..." The lady trailed off. What was that name? What were they saying? Suddenly two of the men rush forward and grab her. They bring her to the ground and begin to scream in her ear. The shouted the name and she listened whilst screaming herself. She had become another host for the name. Wolves, foxes, rabbits and other forest creatures begin to pour out of the woods along with the humans. They all mumble to themselves. Mumbling the name. They all had the same thoughts running through their head.
Say the name. Scream into the darkness.

Some of the villagers begin to etch the name into the sides of houses and buildings. They bloodied the fingers and tore their skin.

Find the immortals.

They barged into houses and screamed the name at the occupants.

Kill the Outrider

They would not leave until everyone in this town was one with the name.

Scream the name, scream into the darkness.

Kyngerz smiled at the friendly notion from the bard, holding them back for him to take as a dragon faced helm covered his face, he gave a slight wink as to say "Worry not about me, worry about yourself" Constantine however gladly took them and shoved them deep into his ears, raising his hands once more and saying "spicis ab inferis surgere per unam viam egrediaris introeas cogerent" his eyes glowing again as the ground shook, large spikes poking out around the building creating a forced entrance.

Constantine had sent his dragon through the portal to help guide the two girls to the safe haven he had promised, the cat sized brown wyvern gave a slight squeak as he sneezed to get the girls attention as he pointed his head in the right direction.

Lena looked behind her, as she chuckled, motioning Lena to stop. She slowly made her way to the wyvern.

"Hey, you..." She exclaimed, smiling, looking at the creature. It pointed it's head to the direction a bit to the right of what they were heading. Lena chuckled embarrasingly.

"Welp, we failed, didn't we, Lila?" She asked, petting the wyvern on it's head lightly.

Schmendrick had run outside his lute in hand, ready to blast some sick beats. Some of the towns folk had run out their houses in a confused daze. They had heard the screams as well. "Get back inside or move to the inn. Just stay out of the streets!" Schmendrick yelled up to them, giving them warning. The magician didn't stay long enough to see if they complied though. He had to make sure The Name didn't spread.

It didn't take long for Schmendrick to find one of the beings. He had been told that they would be fairly easy to tell apart from normal people. Bloodshot eyes, a broken jaw or split tongue and torn neck muscles. The magician didn't hesitate to get it's attention. If he brought attention to himself all the others would probably flock to him as well, leaving the other townsfolk hopefully safe. There wasn't a doubt in Schmendrick's mind that The Name was here for him, he was the last of the Outriders after all. The zombie like figure whirled around hearing Schmendrick's whistle. It starred wide eyed at Schmendrick before charging him.

Kill the Outrider, Kill the Outrider, Kill the Outrider!

The creature lunged, grabbing for Schmendrick. But there was nothing to grab. It was all a trick, an illusion, a decoy, it was Schmendrick's signature After Image! The illusory Schmendrick exploded in a gout of purple smoke and a shower of glittery sparkles. The man slammed into the hard cobblestone street, dazed, confused and covered in glitter. From behind him, Schmendrick stepped out of the shadows. He shredded on a cord amplified by magic and several balls of swirling black and purple Eldritch fire appeared in the air before flying towards the man. They successfully slam into him and he exploded in a shower of blood, gore, viscera and burning glitter.

The magician smiled, happy with the results of his attack. He whipped around ready to go hunt down more but as he did so he saw the horde approaching him. They had gathered quicker then the magician had expected. There were roughly thirty people, they all stumbled towards Schmendrick mumbling the name to themselves.

Kill the Outrider, Kill the Outrider, Kill the Outrider!

Around them were a group of forest animals. Mostly small things like rabbits and foxes but there were a couple larger animals as well. He couldn't be sure but he could have sworn he saw an Owlbear as well. The magician shutters.
'Gods why is there a f**king Owlbear' The horde began to approach slowly at first but then charging after a few moments. They approached rapidly whilst screaming. Schmendrick began to play on his lute. The sound resonated off of the alleyways and began to grow and grow in amplitude.

The power of the music blasted down the on coming horde knocking them over. The screaming of the name was kept at bay by the playing music. For now the horde was stopped.

Meanwhile...

While the Outrider was being occupied ten of The Name's legion had been sent looking for the immortals. Chances were ten wouldn't be enough but if they could weaken them by the time the Outrider was killed then the powerful beings wouldn't stand a chance. 9 men led by an Owl bear scoured the streets looking for Kyngerz and Belisair. They were close. The Name could feel it.

Belisair listened intently as his allies spoke. He graciously accepted the earplugs, but did not put them in. He would need to hear for his plans to work.

As Constantine began his fortifications, Belisair reached deep into his mana and drew. It was obvious to everyone that of the four, he was the least offensively inclined. So, he would first focus his efforts on securing the villagers.

Following closely behind Schmendrick, Belisair exited the Inn and stood out in the square as he grabbed hold of the winds around him.

"Go out and seek, my children. Find the frightened, find the innocents. Bring them to me or make their presence known to me."

Kyngerz greatest worries now was protection, though he was completely covered in ice which allowed him less movement than usual he needed more defense, shards of ice rising up and spinning around him quickly, creating an almost impenetrable barrier. He moved outside to see his foes and the strange beast known as an owlbear, a grin coming to his face as he shouted into the crowd "I am Kyngerz Plagkets, known in your tongue as The Kings Plague, Oracle of the Palsiet, Slayer of the Ice dragon Fer^Thung and One of the Grand commanders in the Great war of Races. Tonight will be the night a town is wiped of the face of the map." the palsiet bellowed, making sure to get as much attention off his allies as possible.

Meanwhile Constantine remained inside, summoning two crystal balls and throwing one out the door, it floated up over the town and provided him a slightly blurry vision of the area, he noticed etchings in the wall, most likely writing as Shmendrik had smiled as he cast another spell "
Ignis Voro" he said, the entire town almost instantly being set aflame, they would prevent the name from being written and would only burn enemies, the houses would remain slightly charred yet fully intact.

@Delacare @Throne Trinity

The Dragon gave a slight purr as he was pet, after a bit jumped off and began growing at an immense pace until he was roughly the size of a house, he cleared his throat and began to speak in a rather rumbley voice "
No child, you have not failed, in fact this is a much better place for the both of you, and with a little help from my master we can revive your feathered friend. How rude of me, I haven't introduced myself have I? My name is Lawrence Spellspitter, My master is the grand archmage Constantine Feeblis who has unlocked the power of immortality, Something that he wanted us to use to revive the crow. Follow me, I can see our Shelter in the distance" the dragon shrunk back down to cat size and began to lead the way with a few happy squeaks.

@JJKab @Kry @RP Marshall
Lena staggered backwards, once the dragon rose in size. She silently listened to him talk, and once shrinked back down, she slowly followed him, her hands lightly twitching.

@Kry

Lila had begun to follow Lena, then the dragon had squeaked cutely at them and they had turned back to him. Apparently their direction had been off by just a bit. Lena went to pet the dragon, and Lila merely looked around, almost as if looking for another portal, another way back. Suddenly though the dragon was growing and speaking to them, Lila watched it intently for a moment. It didn't matter how big or small the wyvern was, she still liked him. He was adorable. Even so, Lila felt as if she wasn't doing enough to help anyone. As Lawrence began to lead them away, Lila fell into step with Lena. A thoughtful, worried silence seemed to fill the air around Lila. Still there was a bit of hope in the Yuan-ti, the dragon had mentioned helping Flint.

At the thought of the crow, Lila felt that familiar pang in her heart. She hadn't really been able to grieve over the loss of her friend and even in this safe place, she still felt that she didn't have the time for such a thing. Still, her heart was heavy with sorrow, and again she was wishing there was something she could do to help. Everyone was doing their part, and she was just here, tagging along, a liability if anything were to happen really.
