Observer of Reality
Welcome to the Multiverse - a plane of existence where anything and everything within the laws of physics is allowed. Alternate timelines, temporal paradoxes, Parallel universes, Whiteholes - you name it, it’s here. The only limit is your imagination. As long as it can be explained by the laws of physics (even a bit loosely), it’s fair game. But, all is not as you'd think. Somewhere, deep in the Multiversal plane, a Universe exists that initially, is so similar to the universe you (IRL) actually dwell in, that you can barely tell the difference. Perhaps it is a parallel Universe of some sort, where the difference is so subtle, that any ordinary man would go mad searching for the difference that makes it so unique? Upon further inspection down the timeline, however, the difference is much bigger than one could imagine - an event in its Earthen history, that changed the course of time forever.

As an RP'er (during this first Season), you'll be responsible for successfully guiding your OC through the chaos and dangers that lie ahead, as events unfold. You'll witness the event that started it all...

Current Universe :: MU-0

The years haven't been kind as of late. You (can probably) remember a time in you life where the worst thing you had to be concerned about was whether you'd be late for a class or your job. But now, the streets are filled with tension. A new Arms Act prohibits the private ownership of any and all firearms. They can only belong to those who have them due to their occupation. But, crime runs rampant, at an all-time high. It's worst in the largest of coastal cities, and law enforcement is spread too thin to come close to deterring crime - let alone, enforcing the law. A new Carbon Dioxide tax applies to anyone that breathes, and takes one percent of any capital gains you make during the current year. The new tax code requires 30 percent of *all* (includes stocks and investments) all private funds to be paid, directly via government-owned offices throughout the nation.

Surveillance laws allow for the government to openly track any and all forms of electronic communications, and talking out in the open isn’t safe either. If you’re near an electronic device bought on the market, you are likely being watched right now, by a system known as (P)E.D.S.S. (Persistent Electronic Detection and Surveillance System).

A natural language processor, data analysis system, keyword tracker, penetration testing suite, and threat analysis system were combined to create this, and it has access to all government-sanctioned communications. But sometimes, it acts as if it has a mind of its own - there is something the original programmers aren’t telling anyone. Even the government doesn't know what’s going on with its new (P)E.D.S.S. system, and the original designers dropped off the grid as soon as they finished their transaction - 2.5 billion for the new system, in an effort to ‘combat terrorism’.

The politics of this new U.S. have changed completely. The people in the U.S. became more concerned about international/diplomatic affairs and local (economic/Constitutional) policy. The world was changing, and the U.S. wasn’t responding - now, it’s the people vs. the government, in silent warfare, as political correctness strains whatever rights people have left. Populous vs. Administration. The Populous Party was originally a new an Independent/Conservative (not traditional “right-wing” in this context - refers to a desire to return to past values and methods.2007-2009) party focussed on the recent disappearance on the traditional liberal/left and waning (traditional)conservative/right on the politics and news. People disappeared off of the streets mysteriously, causing rumors to rise, claiming that the Administration was targeting anyone that didn’t completely agree with current laws and regulation.

Jumping to the year 2036, the Administration secretly used the NSA to spy on all publicly-open Populous party meetings. The Populous party faced assassination attempts left and right, leaving many people in fear and causing the party’s numbers to drop. Legal investigations were started hours after the first two murders. In 2038, the incumbent Administration won the presidential elections by six votes, possibly due to voter fraud, and any attempts to initiate legal investigation(s) are delayed until 2049. In the year 2041, the pre-existing legislation was tightened, forcing the managers and leaders of the Populous party to officially dissolve, in an effort to avoid penalizing its members with legal sanctions and possibly even being killed. Unexpectedly, the Administration ordered a state of emergency, and drained fifty percent of all existing bank assets in the U.S.

Whispers of unrest can be heard in the streets. No matter what side of the aisle you take (right or left), you are in danger - no doubt. The politics no longer matter. This is where you come in. This is where your story begins...

The year is 2041. What will you do now?

Current Season: 0

Somewhere, amidst the billions upon billions of universes and timelines that exist within the barriers or reality, we find ourselves wandering the cosmos. Eventually, we come across a bland spiral galaxy, but upon closer inspection we find an average star amongst millions, which is but all to familiar to some of us. Orbiting this star, we find a fragile, blue dot. To humans, we know we have found our home, and the familiar blue aura beckons us.
In a nation known as the United States during the year of 1969, a young physicist sits at the desk of his humble apartment in Princeton, New Jersey. This is where this story begins.

Walter J. Murphy was a name that practically every living human being had heard. He was widely praised as being the greatest mind of the generation. He had successfully created the famed "Theory of Everything" that physicists had been chasing for centuries, which united the formerly contradictory theories of Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, and Thermodynamics. This allowed for him and his contemporaries to describe more or less every observable natural phenomena. His accomplishments shook the scientific world to its core. However, they didn't stop the draft papers from arriving.
The United States was currently engaged in the Vietnam War at its bloodiest point. Walter, having completed his doctorate's degree, was now subject to the draft as he was no longer classified as a university student. As a military aged male, it was only natural for him to be sent off to war when the nation needed all the young men it could get. Walter sat in his desk, looking over the draft notice amidst the chalkboards and bookshelves.

"You stumble across the nature of reality and give it to humanity, and now they want your life as well?" he thought to himself, feeling more disappointed than anything else.

Murphy (or "Murph," as his colleagues called him) paced the floor, thinking about his options. His pursuit into scientific inquiry instilled in him a high degree of idealism. The very idea of fighting in a war this unjust disgusted him. However, if he refused then he would be thrown in jail. He toyed with each idea in his head as he paced, occasionally taking quick glances towards a table he had turned into a makeshift workbench, upon which lied a near-completed project of his. Finally, he decided to sit down and put his mind towards his project instead of letting it wander aimlessly.

The next few weeks went by rather normally. Walter went to his normal job everyday, working in Princeton's Physics Laboratory. Afterwards, he would go out for a cup of coffee and read the newspaper at a local cafe before heading home to work on his project, which he subsequently completed after a few repetitions of this cycle. There wasn't much else that fit into his life. His family had all died from a breakout of influenza, and he had no close friends. As a result, he kept mostly to himself, not because he couldn't make friends, but simply because he chose not to. The next morning after completing his work, he set out to show his colleagues the fruition of his efforts, but as he was adjusting his tie, there was a sudden knocking on the door. A knocking Walter had been anticipating with dread. A deep voice spoke to him ominously through the door, "Selective Service, open up."

"Just a moment, please" Walter said to the unknown man as his mind raced. His hand brushed the Colt 1911 he kept concealed in his waistline, but quickly dismissed the idea of taking another human's life. There was only one path for him to take.

He looked down to his wrist to view the product of countless hours of work, an unassuming, automatic analog wrist watch. However, utilizing the principles of his theories, this watch would allow his to open a small wormholes around his body momentarily that would allow him to travel to a parallel dimension. It accomplishes this in a reasonably simple way. Below the time keeping piece itself likes two compartments, one of which is a small vacuum chamber with an incredibly high negative pressure. The other contained a electromagnet of sorts, except this specific mechanism attracted gravitons as opposed to particles of opposite charge. By activating this mechanism, large amounts of gravitons would become concentrated around the person wearing the watch, allowing for the gravity necessary to form a wormhole to be present. The vacuum chamber allows for an area for virtual particles to spontaneously come into existence, the anti-particles of which would be compressed by the negative pressure into enough exotic matter necessary to stabilize the wormhole. The end result is a momentary tunnel through space-time, which transports the wearer to another parallel dimension. The only catch is that Walter has no control over which alternate universe he travels to, he only goes to wherever chance takes him.

As the pounding on the door grew louder, Walter pulled the dial outwards and gave it two full rotations, activating the mechanism. He closed his eyes and pressed the dial down as he suddenly felt unbearably heavy as he fell through a hole in the fabric of spacetime.

Then, suddenly, he was standing in the middle of a large city street, with oddly dressed people crossing in front of him. Gasping for air, Walter looked around, attempting to look for any sign of where he was. He quickly found out the answer; he was standing in New York City, in the year of 2041. "You've really done it now, Murph" he thought to himself. He clearly stood out from the crowd, given he was wearing khakis and a dress shirt with a black tie as he wandered aimlessly amongst the crowd, attempting to find his way, or at least make sense of the new world he was now part of.
