Madame Pomfrey didn’t believe this but decided not to question it further. “I’m afraid that after years of not eating enough, your stomach has shrunk. It now rejects food when you attempt to eat a healthy amount,” she informed him. “Why don’t you rest here for a bit until you feel better she said. Now she wondered more than ever what was going on at Remus’ home.

“You need to eat a bit more I’m afraid. You’re very skinny my boy. It’s worrying,” said Pomfrey with a frown. “Is there any food you really like?” she asked him. “Start with that. We need to start having you eat more. It’s not good to starve the wolf like this. It will only make transformations more painful,” she told him.

The words ‘starve the wolf’ rang in his head like a bell. He had heard that so many times. It cut him deep. He looked away. “O-Okay.”

“Remus please, try to eat a bit more for me. It’s very unhealthy to starve your body like this,” said Madame Pomfrey with a worried frown.

Remus swallowed. “I-I’m not trying to. I just… feel so sick all the time. And the Great Hall is so loud and has so many people that it makes me feel worse.”

“Hmm,” said Pomfrey. “Perhaps I can make arrangements for you to eat in a more quiet environment,” she suggested. “Although I’m sure your friends would miss you. I assume you’ve made a few by now.”

Remus nodded. “Yeah. A couple. They said I just need to get used to the noise. I’m sure I will. Soon.”

“Well Remus it’s ultimately up to you. I think you’d benefit from the social interactions of the Great Hall during meal time. But if it gets too overwhelming for you, I can arrange something for you,” said Pomfrey sweetly.

“Remus honey,” began Pomfrey with a frown, “There’s nothing wrong with you at all. And if you don’t believe me, that Sirius Black boy certainly sees something special in you. That silly wolf doesn’t define you. You’re a brilliant young man Mr. Lupin.”

Remus nodded. “Yeah. I guess.” He didn’t know how to explain it. That it was more than the wolf. That it was him. That he didn’t like loud noises or crowds or talking to strangers.

“I think you’re all done here. You’re free to rest here or return to class. The next one starts in a few minutes,” Madame Pomfrey informed Remus.

“I’ll head to class. Thanks.” Remus grabbed his bag. Hopefully Sirius wouldn’t have too many questions.

“Remember Remus, you can always come to me if you need anything,” Pomfrey reminded him. Sirius was outside of the hospital wing waiting for Remus.

“It’s alright Remus,” said Sirius with a soft smile and a shrug. “Feeling better?” he asked. “Did she fix ya up? Do we have our Remus back for the day?”

Sirius nodded, “Yea, next class starts soon. Just not sure what we’ve got next. We should find James and Peter.”

*Time Skip*

The day was winding to a close and Remus was back in the Great Hall, pushing his food around on his plate. James wasn’t eating as nearly as much as his did last night, but he still had quite the appetite.

The rest of the day went by fast. Sirius had very much enjoyed his first day of classes. Luckily there were no other mishaps and Sirius and Remus got to enjoy each other’s company in class without any issues from a certain few Slytherin lads. With a successful first day of classes done, the group of four Gryffindor friends found themselves in the Great Hall eating dinner.

“Make sure not to eat too much, James,” said Sirius, “Got to stay light and on your feet for the fight,” he reminded him, ready to go up against Snape and Mulciber as he had challenged earlier. Peter was busy stuffing his face, eating as much as he wanted because he didn’t have a fight to worry about. Lily Evans sat with a few of her Gryffindor friends, opting to eat only foods that were vegan. She wasn’t a big fan of meat anymore.

James grinned. “Yes! Especially after potions today.”

Remus sighed. “Mates, please. Come on.”

“Oh yea. They only fueled the fire today at potions. We’re gonna make them regret messing with Remus,” said Sirius with a confident grin, eating lightly. He then looked over at Remus. “Lupin! They gave you bloody boils in potions class and ruined our cauldron. Luckily Slughorn was understanding but damn it Remus- we’ve got to get revenge!” Sirius said.

“Getting revenge is nice when you’re not facing people capable of melting your cauldron.”

James scoffed. “That wasn’t talent! They just snuck quills into your potion.”
