Fantasy The Land Of The Rising Sun (OOC Chat)

Ften
Fuck guys, the reality is starting to sink in. How can a knight from England go all the way to Japan without getting killed by bandits, dying of starvation, and surviving all that exposure to the elements?

He could try crossing through the Middle East, but the Muslims there are probably gonna cut him in half for being Christian. He could try going through Russia, but it's so fucking cold and he can't speak the language. He could try traveling through ship, but there's probably nobody that's willing to sail all the way to Japan. Oh, and he could get shipwrecked too or attacked by pirates.

There are just so many ways that he could die. And why would a knight go so far from home when he could be comfy in his own manor? Mmm, lots of thoughts running through my head, guys.

Perhaps, the knight — though, I suggest more an explorer-scholar-missionary or a cartographer — hitches a ride with a person trying to attempt a circumnavigation of the entire world, and then drops off at Japan because they looked like civilized folks.

It doesn't have to be entirely accurate. Hell, one of the character's an Englishman himself.

Bonus points if your character's Portuguese or Spanish.

Aye. Just finished the codex alera (pretty much Rome meets avatar the last airbender) series and waiting for the last guardian so I can finish Artemis Fowl as well.

Yourself? I'm at work now, on my phone.

Just getting round to finishing the Bazaar of Bad Dreams. A anthology of short stories by Stephen King. He writes pree-tay well.

Another possibility may be that, if he's a knight, he's trying to evade the black plague. And the Frenchies. And the Turks. The red funks. The Chinks. And, finally, the Japs. The whole world's against him, it seems.

I got it. I'll have two characters now!

The first guy will be a disgraced knight that had his land and all his stuff taken away from him by his angry overlord for screwing up in a battle. The second will be that explorer-scholar-missionary guy you mentioned before.

The scholar is part of an international organization in Europe whose mission is to study the world and its cultures. Yeah, there's a lot of them in Europe, but people started wondering if there are civilizations out there that they aren't familiar with yet. With this in mind, many people begin planning for an expedition to look into corners of the world that they haven't explored yet. It takes years to gather the funds, the ships, and the people but it gets done.

The knight meets the scholar in a bar and tells the scholar he's fucked up again and he's got no place to stay. So the scholar invites the knight to the expedition, and the knight accepts.

Initially, they were going to travel to Africa to the Middle East then reach Asia. But then the knight told them not to be pussies and head straight into the direction of a land that will be called America. They land near the coast of the Americas and they are soon greeted by the natives. Some of the natives were jerks and they lodged a few arrows at the Europeans. Other natives just avoided them. While some of the natives were kind and polite and made the Europeans feel at home.

However, after a few weeks it turned out that the Europeans brought infectious diseases with them. Well, only a few of the Europeans were sick and they were confined in the ships, but some of the rats in the ships jumped ashore and began infecting the natives.

This killed off a lot of the natives, and since this all happened when the Europeans came, the blame fell squarely on them. The natives called 'em demons and the European expedition had to sail off.

Hmm... hmm...

Well, I was thinking that the expedition would follow Ferdinand Magellan's route and cross the Pacific Ocean. And they'd bump into a few islands and cause mayhem before finally reaching Japan.

Just getting round to finishing the Bazaar of Bad Dreams. A anthology of short stories by Stephen King. He writes pree-tay well.

Fuck man, how can you read so fast? I myself can barely bring myself to read.

I... know so little about history. I mean, I TRY to read up on them but it's just too much and I seem to forget events easily.

And my brain is not working today.

*Looks up at the amount of things I have to read*

*Begins to cry softly*

But despite not reading history all that much... I... want to be as historically accurate as possible!

*Weeps*

Hmm, I'm thinking of what would motivate this knight of mine to travel all the way to Japan.

1.) He's on a Monty Python-esque quest to search for the Holy Grail!

2.) He wants to taste all the beer there is in the world before he dies.

3.) Like you said, he's being fucking hunted by everyone around the world. First, he's kicked out of Europe by the Black Plague, and he keeps getting attacked by the Frenchies and the Ruskies for his trouble. When he finally reaches the Middle East, those Turko boys catapult him straight into Asia... where he meets the Chinese who don't like his stupid English face and accent and launch him into Japan.

4.) Or, I could combine some of these stories...

Meh, your suggestion wins, Eleph. #3 it is!

Well, people probably won't care if there's a bit of historical dissonance here and there.

Eleph, I'm sorry that I wont be able to make my character immediately. Right now, I feel like shit, and no creative thoughts are hitting me. It's like my mind has turned into a goddamn vegetable when I need it to churn out ideas as fast as a factory can churn out machines. It will take me hours to cook up a post even if I'm in beast mode, and now that I feel like shit it will take me an eternity to post.

Holy shit, fuck, something evil has crossed my mind today. Ho boy, I think I'll be able to make a great character.

Right now, I'll only give details of his fighting style. He's a man that can use anything anything as a weapon. From frying pan to ladder to featherduster, he will try to become the Jackie Chan of knights. This knight of mine will rely on his quick wits to get the job done. No pure swordsmanship or archery for this guy, and he won't depend on any supernatural powers to help him, for he does not have much strength and skill. What he does have is his smarts, his quick feet, and his stamina.

But... then again there is one thing he is REALLY good at. That's throwing rocks at his enemies...

I really likes that movie

Jeezus Christ, guys. Slow down a bit. You're gonna have me write a novella here, at this rate.
Whatchu talkin about? The demon? Havel's trance lasts longer than you think. Even a little bit of killing has him out of sorts for awhile. So you got all the freedom . But in reality, little has happened. They killed the bandits and went along the road. Most of everything else was dialogue lol

.....

I still haven't started reading the story... I've only tried reading all your character sheets.

I HAVE TO READ SOO MUCH.
