The First Hybrid

In a secluded forest in Australia, there lived Natalie in her 8th house since her 2nd parents died. It's 7pm so she can freely go outside, she doesn't have any sunlight ring yet as she didn't master the spell though she already knows the basics. Natalie sit down on the smooth grass on her backyard, she gets her grimoire and placed it beside on her oil lamp. "Now... what did you learn Natalie?" she asked her self. She concentrated, trying to light the oil lamp. She looked at the oil lamp, concentrated 'lumière' she thought and waited after a few seconds but nothing happened "Ugh! What's wrong?!" she said, annoyed her spell didn't work. She concentrated again 'lumi-' but then she heard something open inside. Alerted, Natalie immediately put her grimoire back to her backpack, she always have this in around her in case of emergency like this. "Do you think she's here??" she heard a man's voice. 'Someone's here' she thought. As fast as she could, using her vampire abilities, she run into the woods.

Something arrived in the mail. It was from someone anonymous. In it was a piece of paper with written coordinates. No other thing was in there besides the message:

The time has come.

And so Sebastian booked a plane and boarded in the same day. Soon, he was deep in the wilderness of Australia, using his GPS watch to trace the place he was directed too. Suddenly, his watch started blinking furiously. It means that he's near his destination. Feeling excited, he ran, faster than a human eye can catch. And when he was a few meters from a secluded house, his watched beeped.

This is it. He's here.

With his vampire abilities, he was able to see that a girl running, as if fleeing something. She was soon followed by three blurred figures in dark clothing. Vampires. He ran towards them, following, observing what's happening.

Natalie then stopped running she was cornered by an 3 huge oak trees. Natalie looked behind her, they are going to catch her soon. Natalie then looked at the tree, when she was a child, she was taught to climb trees and she enjoyed it, she would then act like a monkey and jump branch after branch. Natalie smiled as she remembered those days. "She's here, somewhere! Go find her and kill her!" she heard someone shout, Natalie then snapped herself and started climbing the tree, she stopped when she reached the 3rd branch. Holding firmly, she quietly observe the 3 people who were running after her stand below, confused "Where is she?!" one man said, "Just look carefully!" one man replied. Natalie looked at them and concentrated a circle where the 3 men are inside 'éclairer' she casted using her thoughts. Suddenly, a big fire surrounded the 3 people, exactly the way Natalie thought. "Where did this fire come from!?" the man said and they gathered in the corner so that they can avoid the fire. 'What now?' Natalie thought, 'I'll just wait that fire to eat them 3' she sigh and boringly watched the 3 men.

Sebastian picked up what the three men said about the girl. He was hiding behind a tree in a distance, his dagger out in front of him. And his eyes widened as the men were suddenly surrounded by tall pillars of fire. Was there a witch here? Now, doubly alert, he scanned the forest. There was no one else but him, the guy and the girl. And speaking of the girl, his eyes narrowed as he stared at the tree where she was. He saw her run with the speed only a vampire could have so he assumed she was just another vampire, but there was no other person who could have created the fire. Could it be...her?

From the periphery, he saw movement. One vampire was able to escape the fire and was about to launch himself upwards towards the girl. He went running. If vampires are ordinarily fast, he was even faster. His movement creating a whizzing sound, he tackled the guy. They fell on the floor rolling. They grappled as the other tried to rise on top. They struggled against the other until Seb was able to get his hand free enough to plunge his dagger through his chest. The guy gasped his last breath as his two companions screamed as they got consumed by the fire. He looked up.

"They're dead. You can climb down now."

Natalie looked amused as a guy appeared and killed one man that almost escaped the fire. 'Wow. Traitors everywhere' she thought. After the guy killed the man, he looked up at her and said "They're dead. You can climb down now." he said which made Natalie raise her eyebrow "What do you mean climb down? When you can kill me anytime I put my foot on the ground. I'm not an idiot." she said.

"Smart girl..." Seb muttered to himself. He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a crick starting to form. "I'm not here to kill you. You have my word. Jump down, princess, I'll catch you." He spread his arms, ready to catch and carry her weight.

"Not here to kill me? When you just killed your comrade" she laughed "You amuse me" and getting annoying, she wanted to add but for some reason, she didn't. Making her mentally scratch her head.

He sighed, he had hoped that he can confirm her identity as fast as he can. If she is the woman he was sent to protect, then he better get them to safety. And not here in the wide open space of the forest. Besides the vampire/werewolf/witch/human who may see them, there are also wild animals to consider. He stroked his chin, weighing his options. Oh well, if she won't come to him, then he will. Quickly, he jumped up, grabbing branches until he was close enough to see her very pretty face. He felt the connection between them, he was almost sure that she was the girl he had been waiting for. He had his dagger on his hand and he had it pressed against her neck in a second. "I could kill you right now. It's easy slice that pale, soft neck. But, I won't. Because, as I said I'm not here to kill you." He turned his dagger, it's blade on his hand with the handle pointed towards the girl. "Take it, if you don't trust me."

Natalie shivered as the guy pressed his dagger to her neck. When the guy asked her to take the dagger, she softly, with precaution, touch it "conflandum" she whispered and the dagger melted. "I still don't trust you" Natalie said and jump off the branch and landed on the ground graciously, of course, with her vampire abilities. She turn around at the guy and run to her cottage.

Seb shook his head, amazed at seeing someone, obviously looking like a vampire with a witch's ability to cast spells. He shivered at the unmistakable power in the air. When she jumped down, he followed. He landed softly as he walked behind her. As he saw the cottage at a distance, he hoped she would invite him in. Or he'd spend the night being food for the mosquitoes and who knows what else.

Natalie arrives at the cottage with the guy following him. She opened the door, get a chair, placed it a few distance from the door and sit down. "So tell me, what's your name? How did you find me?" she started throwing questions, like a detective trying to learn the suspect.

It's going to be a long night... Seb decided to make himself as comfortable as possible in his situation. He sat down before the door, crossing his legs under him. "My name is Sebastian Vallejo. And someone sent me here. Who? I don't know." He removed the paper from his pocket and handed it to her. "This arrived on my mail yesterday."

Natalie get the paper, the only thing that is there is the phrase 'The time has come' "Wow this is creepy" she pauses "And doesn't help at all" she looked at Sebastian, expressionless. "Now, what is the reason why you came here?" she asked him as she folded the paper and give it back to Sebastian.

He pocketed the paper again. "Do you know the urban legend of Vampires. That once, a vampire and a werewolf fell in love and created a child. A child who inherited powers of both worlds. Plus, the magic of the witches for some unknown reason." He paused in his story, looking at her expression, looking for any clue. "The Vallejo family had always been a family of protectors. And...I had been assigned to protect one person. And that person is that child."

'It's not a legend' she thought as she remembered the book her real parents wrote (which was given by her 2nd parents). But then, instead of becoming sad, Natalie cocked an eyebrow "And why are you here? It's only me living here. No child. Plus as you said, that's a legend so...." she trailed off.

"You see...this happened around twenty years ago. So I'm not looking for a child. More like a woman your age." He felt tension on his body. This could be it. Finally, after countless hours of training his body to be stronger and faster than any vampire, he'd finally get his chance to do what he was born for. "Tell me truly, are you that child?"

"No........" she paused, it took her a few seconds to reply "But then, I'm curious, do you have any relation to the parents' child?" she asked. Before Sebastian can even reply, a lot of questions started running inside Natalie's head like 'What if we are connected?', 'What if I can meet my other relatives?', 'Maybe there's a way for me to become an only one being, maybe they can help me' but before she can think of the negative things, she let a big sigh and calmed herself.

Sebastian's shoulder slumped. His face fell, his hopes had been brought up and was mercilessly killed. But then, he noticed something in her face that made it perk up again. If it was him, he wouldn't reveal his identity readily either. "My mother...she had was about to be attacked by the werewolves, when the girl's mother arrived. My mother is a strong warrior. But alone against five? She didn't stand a chance. But then the woman arrived and together, they were able to kill them." He caressed his necklace, the pendant bearing the emblem of the woman's clan. "The whole Vallejo family promised our life to protect them. And...we had failed them when we were too late to save the woman and her husband. That's why I must protect her daughter, with my life, if need be."

"Oh" she said, speechless. "Well.. I can't do anything for you. I'm not the girl you are looking for" but then she remembered she let Sebastian see her witch ability. 'Stupid' she thought and mentally facepalmed herself. "Good night!!!" she said and quickly closed the door. "Now what I'm going to do" she said in a whisper and sigh. Doubting if he should trust the guy or not.

**

In a big, old, deadly mansion, there live the king of the vampires. Drinking a glass of blood, his secretary, worried, run to him "The 3 vampires we sent died. 2 of them died because of fire and the other one died because someone stabbed him. What should we do?" he reported. Nodding, Victor faced his secretary. "Train the other vampires to become stronger, she's starting to get stronger. Let's stop for awhile and let the werewolves and witches make there move." he said. The secretary nodded and left the room.

Well, that's it. He'd laid all his cards on the table. It was up to her for the next step. He'll work his way to her trust. He'll prove himself. It's the only way. Or if she shows her werewolf side. He has her vampire side and he's pretty sure she's the one who cast the fire. She only needs to show some fur now.

"Hey, can you invite me inside at least? I no longer have my weapon! Or at least give me some pillows or blanket. Or better yet, keep me some company for the night," he hollered towards the door.

Natalie heard what Sebastian said. She thought of it, deeply. It's going to be cold soon... he saved her..... he answered her questions. She let out a big sigh as she made up her mind. She opened the door "I still don't trust you. But come in" she said and gave him a way to come in "You can sleep in the couch. Near the fire. I only have one room"

Sebastian breathed a sigh of relief. He placed his hand on doorknob and turned, half expecting it to expel him or not to budge. It opened silently and he stepped into the room. He settled himself on the couch she indicated, resting his arms behind his neck.

"Hey, you sure you don't want me to keep you company? It's going to be a cold night and I could keep you warm. It's the least I can do after inviting me inside." he called towards her, teasing.

Natalie rolled her eyes and ignored Sebastian's tease. She walks towards a cabinet near a wooden table. She opened it and 2 rows of bottles full of blood welcomed her "Do you want some blood or something?" she said as she get two bottles of blood. These bloods are not from humans but are from the animals in the woods. "This is not human blood by the way" she said as she puts the two bottles in the wooden table and closes the cabinet.

"Sure." He took the bottle from her. He uncapped it and sniffed. Animal blood doesn't smell as appetizing as human blood, sorts of just bland. "Cheers!" He clicked their bottles together and drank it. It even tastes bland, not like the richness of the blood from humans or powerful kick you get from a fellow vampire's blood. "So how long have you been staying here?"
