Dark was just settling in on the fenced in wilderness, and most of the 'subjects' had escaped into the oddly placed house. A small, dark figure watched, hunkered down in the underbrush near the edge of the grassy clearing that made up the front 'lawn'. She had been there for hours, silently observing all the busyness of the other 'subjects', wanting to know the situation before stepping into it. She had always been a bit careful, but since her capture about a year ago, she had become absolutely apprehensive about everything.
When the voice called out "Release!" The small black doe didn't move more than raising her head. The ride to this 'drop off' was fairly long, and though she had not been drugged for it, there had been a cover on her wire cage, so she had not been able to see anything. Looking around, she noticed it was a deciduous forest. Tall leafy trees, shrubs and grass everywhere, and even flowers where the sunlight was able to trickle down in through the canopy.
Craning her long neck, she couldn't see any other cages from where she lay though she knew there were more of them. there had been enough clamor in the truck that transported to be at least three others, and potentially she was be one of the smallest 'animals', as it only took one of them to lift her cage out of their truck. She tucked her head back down and quietly scanned the forest, even after her cage had been remotely opened. Her long, soft ears flicked as the brush rustled and branches snapped as her fellow 'subjects' were released into their faux wild. She could hear at least four from where she sat, there were more of them than she thought.
An hour or so after everyone had gone, she allowed her self to leave the cage, and slowly made her way in the opposite direction than everyone else seemed to be going, taking her time to munch on some of the fresh green grass along the way. It had been so long since she had had a salad, and this was not exactly what she would normally tend to, but this new form of hers was quite peaceful, and made finding food so much easier.
'Hmm. A silver lining.' she mused, 'Go figure that irony is found everywhere.'
Se wondered on until she came upon a fence, buzzing with electricity. She looked on, and thought she saw guard towers further down, but that it seemed to go on forever. Traveling it a bit further to see if there was anything to learn of their position or purpose there, the ebony fawn noticed it was similar forest on the other side of that fence.
Her mind started to go over all that she knew; they were in a forest, most likely still being watched, and there was seemingly no way out. Guard posts suggested a few thongs in and of them selves; there was not only a need to box them in past using a fence, and potentially a danger in them being discovered by the out side. She wondered if maybe there were not all four legged, guards could be on watch for flyers. and the fact that they were in a forest, in the middle of no where, was puzzling. what could they be up to that they needed to be so secluded? and who was funding all of this anyway?
She sighed (or brayed, rather), her survival skills kicking in. She needed to find water, and hopefully some berries. Could this stomach handle berries? She didn't even know the diets of deer, but grass was surprisingly tastier, almost had a fruity taste to her now. She had managed to find a small lake area where the grass was taller and the ground softer, she could almost relax here. Almost.
After a few hours of scoping out her new surroundings the deer had ended up watching the auspiciously placed house and all its tenets. By her count there were at least seven others, probably more. What she had seen had made her more than a bit uncomfortable. They all were a bit broken-not at all like normal teenagers-but shells. Scarred and yet, all too trusting of this house and each other. The newly found nature of the others was quite a bit different than her own, enough so that it made her hair stand on edge. Not just because she seemed to be the only one not playing into this little 'camping experiment', but by their own physical changes, as well.
A wolf, a fox, tiger, cat, hawk, a lioness... And those were just the ones who had changed in the open field. There were others she had only seen as humans, in their original form.
What exactly were these scientist up to? Why did she seem to be the only herbivore? She was already not pleased with the irony that her vegetarianism was able to follow her even into this form. And, by her own accord, there was an alarming ratio of women to men. Her ears flickered, as close to blushing as a doe could get, at the thought that their purpose could be 're-population' or 'breeding'. Wouldn't that be the most awkwardly awful thing?
Not too long ago, a few had left the house (the tiger, soon fallowed by the feline, and then the bird and a reluctant lioness) but returned. After they had returned, another two had left (the wolf-who came mere paces from her- and one of the girls). Still reluctant to join the growing madness, but knowing she needed to change soon and desperately wanted a hot shower (a luxury even her compliance wouldn't grant her at their previous holding) she argued with herself about approaching the house.
Hey guys, I am so sorry for the wall of text!! I didn't have access to internet for a day. I signed up, and came back to 13 pages! I had to catch up!!
If I could request that we allow time for everyone to get a reply in before going back and forth? When I am at work, its possible I wont be able to respond for eight hours at a time. So far its been pretty interesting, but I don't want to have 10+ pages to go through every day.
