Archie's family are in Scotland, he's been through a lot of failed groups, hell he's lost a lot of people. Just like everyone else he's got some serious issues man. The only difference is he wants to save people, and retains faith through it thinking that the world might get better

I suppose it's since Zed's a doctor she'd get blamed if someone got more hurt or died while she was tending to them which would just make her more depressed and helping people get better doesnt help cause they just move on and get on with it while she's just left to deal with whoever comes in next

Ye guess its like Zed is stuck in her situation with no way to escape it. Having to help people when she's still suffering the consequences of not being able to help her son. And I kinda dont want Archie to be broken but... it's the apocalypse

Yeah, everyones broken. Its just left right and centre. But Archie is doing well in comparison to half the basket cases. He suffers occasional breakdowns because as one can see - he's the pillar of support for groups, and he doesn't like to face his own problems. Which just means it builds up till he can't handle it anymore
