Emotional Enigma
Empathetic Empress
Daniel didn't hear anything outside his own angry, rumbling thoughts and faint sobs of tears. He stayed crouched over on the ground, knowing even if he had tried to find his way back again he'd only get even more lost. When he had ran, he didn't notice how far he had gone. He tussled through branches and high weeds, he figured he would be able to find his way back. He couldn't have imagined how wrong he'd be.
He raised his face, wet with tears and anguish. All the trees looked the same to him, like overlapping branches and puzzles. Daniel could hear his sister's voice in his head, You're not stupid Danny, you just need to take a minute to breathe and figure it out. He knew she was right but he had no motivation to do anything. He didn't want to go back to the group, he didn't want to go back to her. Everything just felt horrible right now. No one was getting along and no one was trying. He was tired of running away and he was tired of fighting and tired of the plague.
He stood up, forcing himself to stop being down. His gaze examined the surrounding forest, thick and trees alike glaring at him. He closed his eyes and listened. What do you hear? Water means life, follow the sounds of birds and animals, Calliope's voice echoed to him. The group was still at the water, so if he could navigate his senses to hear the water or hear their voices, he could find his way. Nevertheless, he heard nothing but the chirps of birds in the distance. He settled on the idea to follow the chirps.
Daniel stomped through overturned logs, tilted trees and giant roots, leaves crunching under his bare feet from his swimming attire. He was completely dry now but a little cold as he was absent of a shirt and pants. His shorts he swam in were still damp but it was better than the alternative. If he had made it back to the group and they told Cali, she'd be furious with him for having run off. Or worried. Both of which didn't make him feel any better. The thought of his sister crying or being so upset because she feared for his safety made his stomach turn. That or he was hungry. It was hard to tell by this time, he had gotten so used to being hungry he barely recognized the sensation.
The sun had set, it was getting late. The sky was still alight with the remnants of the day, but he was running out of time. How long before the group decided to go home? How long before they realized he hadn't made it? Would Archie even tell them or was he mad at him for getting angry? The thoughts stirred in his mind guiltily. He was scared.
