the city of
B U R G E N S I E L L E
this was a previous role play I had done Jan. 2015 and I wanted to see if I could revive it here on RPN. The details are still in the works, but if anyone is interested in what we have so far, let me know!
Overview
Founded in 1897 by a trio of travelers, Burgensielle was intended to house those with extraordinary abilities that would get one's self executed at the time. It was the first city in France to be strongly multi-racial, its founders being French, Dutch, and Spanish.
Because of its large population of superhumans, Burgensielle was built in seclusion and isolation--far from any nearby cities or large masses. Before reaching the city, one must pass through mountainous terrain, thick forests, and vast moors that extend for miles. The long journey was a small price to pay for safety.
Those without powers occasionally stumble upon Burgensielle, unaware of its supernatural inhabitants. The many who journey to Burgensielle sometimes never return back to their homes. Despite the many disappearances of townsfolk in the cities surround Burgensielle, the town itself is rarely suspected. And when it is, the residents manage to "take care of" the suspicious.
Although the little prosecution of normal humans from other cities, there are many conflicts and violence between the residents. The battle against good and evil holds strong between those with power, which causes divides within the city's population. There is the good, the bad, and the neutral. Those who categorize under 'bad' were mainly followers of Bram, the evil of the founding fathers. The good followed Miguel--the lawful, neutral, and chaotic good. The neutral were supporters of Gaston who never had an input in the trio and town's decisions unless he needed to save it from Bram's or Miguel's extremities. The regular humans who reside in Burgensielle rarely get involved in the affairs of the supernatural, and are classified as neutral residents.
Bram's Legacy
Two decades after the creation of Burgensielle, a conflict arose between Bram, Miguel, and Gaston. Bram--unaware of his swelling head--became a tyrant over the city. Knowing that Gaston and Miguel were equally as powerful as he when combined, he gathered an army from the residents and waged war on those who did not obey. In a mere three years, Miguel and Gaston were able to weaken Bram and banish him--along with his followers. He left a legacy though, a spell to let Burgensielle know what he would not be forgotten. Every year on Halloween, the anniversary of Bram's banishment, the inhabitants of the city--the good, the bad, and the neutral--must band together to stand and defend against the dead who have fallen in Bram's name--whether it was for or against him--and protect the city from being consumed by the evil.
The Reigning Dragons of Miguel
On one of his travels, Miguel de Unamuno stumbled upon a series of petrified eggs. He guarded them within a metal box with the intention of studying its origin and what the eggs harbored inside. A rough, scaly shell coated the creatures, each shell a different color. The eggs were larger than those of an ostrich, an astonishing aspect that frightened the traveler. He had no theories of what could have possibly lay inside.
Afraid of the powers the unknown creatures could release, Miguel conducted his observations without touch. He conjured many theories of what could lay inside, but nothing concrete because of the little information he could find on his discovery. With what he could procure, Miguel was able to conclude that the creatures were from an ancient time. There were three strong possibilities that could become of the eggs--basilisks, hydras, or dragons. Each creature had powers too strong for that of man, which frightened Miguel. Aware of the danger humanity could face had the eggs fallen into the wrong hands, Miguel hid in deep within the undergrounds of the city.
A few years after Miguel had hidden the box, conflict broke out between the residents. Mayhem littered the town--every shop, street, home. Fire burned houses, ice blocked streets. Miguel desperately searched for his hidden creatures, knowing that it won't be long until the fire burns long enough to crack the eggs. Time was not on his side. As he reached the city square, six colorful dragons erupted from the ground. They were small in size, newly hatched from the fire of the city. The petty fighting of the townsfolk immediately seized as everyone scrambled away for their lives.
The beasts were untamed and were foreign to the likes of man. But to Miguel's surprise, they did no harm unless threatened. Their lack of discipline had resulted to Miguel's inability to control them, and before he could do any further observations, the dragons vanished into the greying sky. Shortly after the reconstruction of the city, Miguel left to return to his dragons. For a few years, Miguel sent several books of observations to Gaston to keep in the city's Atheneum, but after only 8 years of his departure, Burgensielle never heard of him again.
Gaston's Rule
After the departure of Miguel and Bram, Burgensielle was left in the hands of Gaston. It seemed a likely fit, the neutral one of the trio. Gaston rules with a small council of six other members: two Bram supporters, two Miguel, and two neutral, such as himself. Things have been rather peaceful with Gaston ruling the city, but they cannot stop every mishap.
The Plot
Your character can either be a regular human or possess powers. Role play will begin three days before Halloween (in character time), the day Bram's living dead army attacks. The Dragons
*the following information is unknown to any character that live in the town*
Contrary to common belief, Miguel is alive. He stopped sending letters and observations to Gaston and Burgensielle after rediscovering his dragons, along with a small band of wizards who claimed to be "waiting for him". Miguel now resides deep within a mountain cave learning about magic and training his dragons. He intends to return to Burgensielle with further knowledge to end Bram's Legacy once and for all.
Bram
*the following information is unknown to any characters that live in the town*
Bram is alive, but slowly dying. He found refuge in a nearby town on the outskirts of Burgensielle. To power every Halloween night, Bram must reserve his powers year long for that one evening. It's draining him, and if something or someone powerful enough comes along, it may be the end of this fiend.
