Telltale's The Walking Dead Ep. 2: After [Inactive]

"Sam." He shook the guy's hand. He couldn't see the expression of Nathan's face through the gas mask before but now he was up close and he saw a stern looking man. Sam agreed with Evan, "Yeah, we can look around and find something-anything useful." Lia spoke out loud and Sam remembered there was supposed to be a couple more people with them.

"Where is everyone?" Sam asked, arching an eybrow.

Aylaela, satisfied they got what they could from the pharmacy for now, closed the door after the last member exited, sealing the building for later use.

With their group settled and together, now was the opportune time to decide what they should do. Evan voiced his opinion and Aylaela agreed.

At Sam's question the corners of her mouth turned down, "We were separated when the walkers started surrounding us." The statement was somber, a testament to how horrid he felt about abandoning them in the forest. "We need a way to let them know we're here, a sign of some sort," the girl proposed, worried for the rest of their group.

Daisy nodded, and when he said he was scared, she looked up into his eyes also. "Well, I'll protect you." She laughed lightly, a most-probably futile attempt to lighten the mood. She heard a girl suggest using the hummer to get the others, and nodded.

Evan suggested searching a house, and Daisy nodded. She had all this time, avoided houses because they reminded her of death, and her father. Her father's screams. Her neighbor's face. Her fa-. She stopped herself, mumbling to him, "I can't." She didn't want to explain to him why, and be called a coward. Everybody had their losses and fears. She had hers.

Nathan noticed the boy that before had so bravely menaced him with a rifle, had asked him to give up his own rifle and then had refused his handshake. He went over to the kid and offered him his hand again, saying "Were in the same group now, it makes sense to shake hands, no?"

Hunter & Norman

Hunter slammed the car door of the old black '2009 Cadillac Escalade' as he looked around the empty streets. Norman got out of the passenger seat as he got out of the car to follow the other male. "Well, we still have some gas left but we need to find some more quickly." Hunter rubbed the back of his neck as he nodded his head, "Yeah, I know but finding gas is going to be one pain in the a**." Norman scuffed his sneaker against the pavement of the road as he waited for Hunter to say or do something. There was a few moments of silence until Norman spoke up. "Look, theres a town a little bit up ahead. We can drive there and see if theirs any abandoned vehicles or even a gas station, if were lucky." Hunter finally walked back to the car though instead of getting in he opened up the trunk and fished out a few bags from the back.

Norman wandered over to where his partner was as he questioned him.
"Were not seriously going to walk are we?" Hunter looked over his shoulder and shook his head. "No, I just need to know what were running low of and what we need." He continued to look through the bags as a low grunting noise was heard a few feet behind them. It was a walker though more of a crawler since the lower half of it's body was gone. Hunter turned his head as he grabbed a knife from one of the bags and handed it to Norman. Norman took the knife with disgust; he had no problem killing an easy kill though he could never get over how squeamish he felt while doing it. Hunter slammed the trunk closed and walked around the car to get into the driver seat while Norman was busy. Norman bent down on one knee while his foot was propped onto what was left of the walkers back and jabbed the knife into the back of it's head, instantly killing it.

After pulling out the knife and wiping the muck stuck to it into the grass, Norman opened the car door to the passenger seat and slid in. He closed the car door as Hunter started the '2009 Cadillac Escalade'. Norman tossed the knife into the cup holder as Hunter laughed to himself and drived down the road.
"How can you be laughing right now?" Hunter rubbed the back off his hand under his nose before he spoke. "Just because the world's gone to hell doesn't mean my sense of humor has gone with it." Norman looked a bit confused when Hunter turned his head to look at him. "What I mean is, your face is always hilarious when you kill one of those things. Reminds me of my mom's face when ever she tried to cook." Norman remembered that look Hunter's mom used to wear when she was cooking and it was always the type of face that said 'I don't know what I'm doing but I'm going to try anyway'. Norman punched his partners shoulder as the male still drove. Soon, what came into view ahead was a group of people gathered around outside of a pharmacy.

"Well, I'll protect you."

Evan flashed a weak smile at her. It was a nice gesture, but an unnecessary one. He could fend for himself, most of the time. Still, it warmed his heart to hear her say it, regardless of whether she meant it or not. “We all protect each other,” he replied. “We try to at least.”

"Were in the same group now, it makes sense to shake hands, no?"

It was Nathan. He was still wary of the man. Who knew what lingered behind that mask of friendly behavior? Maybe it was just because he looked more menacing than Daisy, but Evan struggled to grant the man his trust. He was armed, and he had threatened him, you didn’t just forget that.

“I am Evan, sir,” he replied politely.

Not waiting for anyone’s approval, he dragged himself over to the jeep, sat down in the backseat and closed his eyes. It was a beautiful summer day and with his eyes closed he could pretend that everything was normal. The voices of the others became faint and muffled until he could no longer hear them and succumbed to the darkness of sleep with the large rifle resting in his lap.

Lia saw two boys standing quite the ways away and tapped Aylaela's shoulder then pointed toward them "I see people or walkers. They're crowded by a car so..."

She nodded, and smiled at Evan. "Thanks." She replied after he had turned to Nathan. With his maturity level, Daisy wondered how old he is. She walked over to the hummer, leaning on it. She didn't know what all of their plan was, so just waited there, circling her thumbs around each other repetitively. A breeze whipped her hair a bit, and she almost for a second thought it was normal. She forgot about the walker too. But then she remembered reality when she heard a growling noise. A walker stumbled towards them. Grabbing the knife out of her boot, she threw the knife, sending it spiraling through the air and into the walkers head. She walked towards it, and stabbed it's head a couple more times before it dropped dead. She then took her knife wiped it off on the grass, and returned it to her boot.

Aylaela looked over in the direction of Lia's finger, finding a car moving towards them. She perked up at the sight, hoping it was the rest, but as it moved closer the two males in front were unrecognizable.

Gripping her tire iron, she looked back to their group, spotting Evan in the back of the Jeep passed out.

"Possible trouble on the way," she said to the others, thoughts of other plans drifting away as she faced the immediate threat.

Daisy heard the word trouble, and headed back towards the group, one hand on the gun in her pocket. She went around towards the back of the hummer, and saw Evan passed out. 'At least he's getting sleep,' she thought, looking towards Nathan who had his AUG in his hand, a concerned look spread across his face.

Staring down at her hands which now dripped with thick, almost black blood, Cloe once again resisted the urge to spill her stomach. She could feel her vest beginning to cling, the blood acting like glue as it began to stiffen in places, forming a red crust along the, once, fine fabric. It grated too, making her watch to peel off the layer of goo before it somehow became permanently attached. Images of this flickered across her vision in a brief but horrific slide show that made her skin shiver and making every hair on her body standing on end. Even after living by herself for months, this was by far the most disgusting thing she had ever had to do.

When she did, at last, manage to tear her eyes away from inspecting her own gore filled fingernails it was to the sound of Matthew’s voice, instructing them to copy the Walkers’ behaviour. With a quick, furtive glance towards the others, Cloe gulped dryly. In the time it had taken them to don their new camouflage the number of walkers had almost doubled and inwardly Cloe cursed her day. It had only been a few hours ago since she had unfurled herself from her sleeping spot, happy, hydrated and her only worry being the wood louse which had decided to try and nest in her hair.

Oh what she would give right now to get that wood louse back and get out of this situation. The others didn’t exactly seem thrilled either, but so far nothing had been said. Almost as if, like her, their tongue had become glued to the top of their mouths.

Nodding quickly at Neri and Jon, Cloe once again steadied her breathing and smiled. Mouthing as best she could “Well if you can’t beat them, join them.” Before shrugging and following Matty’s lead, doing what could only be described as the greatest Igor impersonation ever witnessed.

Hunter & Norman

As the Cadillac drew closer to the group and the pharmacy, Norman glanced over at Hunter who started to slow down. "Should we keep driving?", Hunter shook his head as he came to a complete stop a couple of feet away from the pharmacy on the other side of the road. "We can't. Were low on gas and who knows when the next town will be in view." Hunter cursed under his breath as he took the knife from the cup holder that Norman used earlier and slipped it into his back pocket; better to be safe than sorry. He looked over at Norman and patted the males shoulder. "I'll just talk to them and you stay inside the car, they have weapons and more people." With that said Hunter opened the car door and stepped out of the vehicle with his hands raised a little bit as he walked around the car and into the view of the group across the street from him.

Hunter started crossing the street but stopped in the middle thinking that was far enough.
"Sorry to alarm everyone but me and my..friend are just low on a few things." He paused for a moment before continuing. "Were not going to bother you but we don't really have an option of going anywhere else than here." Hunter took a few steps up but then stopped himself remembering who had the guns right now. Behind him he could here the car door of the Cadillac being shut slowly. He turned his head to look over his shoulder at Norman who was outside and leaning against the car watching everyone carefully. Norman had a Desert Eagle tucked away in the back of his pants with his shirt covering it though he was pretty sure he wouldn't need to use it. Hunter turned his head back to the group of people near the pharmacy. He really hoped they were nice people because right now it wasn't a good situation to be low on gas. "All we are going to do is look around to find a few supplies and some gas." Hunter lowered his hands as he looked at the people holding the weapons.

Now that everyone thought he was asleep, Evan made his move. Keeping a low profile he crawled towards the front seat of the jeep. The key was still in the ignition, just as he had hoped. They were going to hate him for this, but he had no other choice. He couldn't leave Jon and Matthew and Ryker and Neri and all the others to their fate. Someone had to go out and rescue them. With their group having grown so large so quickly, there was only one way he would get them to unite quickly.

He still had some bullets in his rifle, though he doubted he would be able to shoot and drive at the same time. The only driving experience he had was with 4/mph tractors. As long as there was a gas pedal and a break, it shouldn't be all that different. Keeping a low profile he checked the mirror. They were distracted by two new guys driving up in a cadillac.

A flash of regret shot through his veins as he sat down in the driver's seat, buckled up and turned the ignition key. Mentally, he plugged his ears to ignore the shouts that would no doubt beg him to stop. Then he hit the gas and steered onto the road. It took a little getting used to but the road was smooth and straight. He checked the gas, it would be just enough to ferry the remaining survivors to Wickford. If he could find them, if they were still alive.

Nathan walks up to one of the newcomers, the one that has spoken, and says "Low on gas, eh? Yeah. I think we can help you out. But" he says, holding his AUG a little higher "If you are bandits or looters and try to harm anybody in that group" he says, pointing at all the others "I will not doubt in killing you, is that clear?" He finishes the sentence by switching the off the safety on his AUG and looks the man straight in the eye.

Lia looked at the boys and giggled. "Kay!" She skipped inside the pharmacy. She looked around and found a Mars bar. "Yay!" She went back to the hummer and climbed onto the roof. She was light enough, crossed her legs and started eating some

Jon was covered in blood, utterly soaked in the bodily fluids of the monsters that tried again and again to kill him and the others. The thing that worried him the most was not the blood, the shambling masses, the separation of the group, or even the absence of his mother.

What worried him was that, he wasn't breaking apart, that the worry and the danger and the stress wasn't ripping his psyche apart, rendering him as mentally stable as a walker.

Matthew was calling the group to follow the herd of walkers, become one. Jon was getting his transition into walkerhood, if only for a moment. Matthew had to be crazy to think of this.

He took a step and letting his other leg and his arms drag forward, his limbs followed his torso.

In the distance, there was a low rumble. The Jeep was coming back, why the hell were they coming back!

"Evan!" Aylaela shouts after the boy, speeding away in the vehicle. What the heck did he think he was doing?! Panic rose in her throat as the newcomers approached and she could only look to Sam for guidance. This is what you get for trusting, a small voice whispered in the back of her mind before the thought was roughly pushed away. So far Evan had never given her reason to doubt his intentions, other than the incident with Lia, and all she could do was watch the Jeep speed away.

Taking a breath to compose herself, Aylaela looked at the two new men in their midst, having stated they were only here for supplies. Even if they weren't, numbers were against them. "We need to set up a safe house before sunset," she says, seeing as the day was a little past noon. Looking at the other two she pauses, unsure how to proceed, "If everyone agrees, you can join us, for now." Aylaela says, looking off to where the Jeep disappeared. If Evan came back with the rest, if that was his intention, then they would need more help to clear a space for everyone until they could regroup and gather supplies.

Looking to Sam, she gave him a look that hopefully portrayed her need to talk to him. Evan was just a boy, and Sam was the only other person here that would agree with her want to go after him.

"I agree to it" says Nathan "As for your gas problem" he says, looking at one of the two "I saw a gas station around and If you want I can take you there" He still doesnt trust them completely, so his AUG is still more or less prepped.

Hunter nodded his head as the man standing in-front of him finished his sentence. "Clear as crystal, sir, wouldn't dream of it." There was a bit of mockery in his tone but he couldn't help it and hoped the other male hadn't noticed. Hunter turned his head to the sound of a vehicle driving off onto the road again. The group seemed confused about the jeep driving off and with one girl shouting after the guy who was driving it, Hunter could assume that something had happened that wasn't supposed to.

Hunter looked at the man with the AUG again as he proposed an offer to there gas problem.
"That would be great actually." At this point Norman stepped up in all the confusion and tapped Hunter on the shoulder. Hunter knew that he and Norman would need to talk about joining the group if they even let them but he sensed that Norman was pretty tired of it just being them two; they were always outnumbered and just two people can't survive on their own. Numbers are important these days. Norman spoke up to the guy who was holding the AUG. "If you guys are setting up then I would say stay the night in that pharmacy. Looks stable enough and me and Hunter can help you out." Norman smiled slightly but with little effort; he wasn't sure what was happening anymore. Norman held out his hand to the guy holding the AUG. "I'm Norman. Thanks for offering the help. We appreciate it."

"What the hell.." Daisy thinks as she sees the hummer speed off. She quickly realizes it's Evan and screams, "Evan!" Along with Aylaela. They all start to talk about shelter and all, and Daisy considers following Evan. Once she's a safe distance from the rest of these strangers, she could sprint after the vehicle. It was stupid idea, and she knew it. Sighing, she walked over onto the sidewalk and sat down, leaning against the Pharmacy.

She didn't know these people, she wished she wasn't here. Daisy almost wondered what death was like. She had to stop herself because she knew that's not what her father would have wanted. Daisy stopped moping, and got up.

The further he went, the thicker the clouds became until he reached a complete overcast. Rain and thunder were in the air, he could feel nature tense around him, ready to release a shitload of rain. The wind was picking up, carrying the scent of undead flesh on every gust. Everytime he saw a walker near the road, his heart skipped a beat, but he was able to evade them as he could spot them way ahead.

After half an hour, he finally reached spot where he'd last seen the other members of the group. Many dead walkers, truly dead, laid sprawled on the ground. He couldn't find any familiar faces between them which meant they were still alive! But where would he find them? Ready to hit the gas if a walker should pop up to his left or right, he drove off the road and followed a trail of dead walkers. The tires slipped through blood and mud, and with every passing second he became more and more afraid that a walker would jump out of the dark and tear his lungs out.

But he made it through. Twigs adorned the bumper and part of the windshield, but he had managed to plow through the many small trees that had blocked his way. In front of him, a large field stretched out into the distance. His jaw dropped. The field was crawling with walkers. No chance in hell they had survived that! He had to get out of there before the nearest walkers, some hundred feet away, noticed him!

What was that rumble? The hell?

Matthew looked up to the sky's, and realized something. It was cloudy. Shit. Thunder booked in the sky, and then a streak of light followed, and then another thunder boom. It was going to rain. Matthew picked up his pace, hoping to get to the woods for cover. But it was no use. Water poured down from the skies, and Matthew looked down in horror as guts fell of of him, and the blood washed away into the ground. He noticed that the walkers were looking at him, growing suspicious. He was going to die. Matthew brought his machete up, then swung it into the nearest walkers head. The others soon looked at him, wondering what he was doing.

They knew.

"Run!" He yelled to the others, and began swinging wildly at the walkers.

Nathan accepted Norman's hand and shook it. "And I'm Nathan. Right then, whenever you are ready, Ill take you two to the gas station. If you dont have ANY gas at all, I have gas tanks in the back of the Humvee."

A shout, very unlike that of a walker and very much like that of Matthew came from the field. They were still there, still alive! His heart hammered relentlessly against his ribcage as he sat down again. This wasn't rash or reckless, it was insane, but he did it anyway, for the group.

He turned the car so he could easily drive it across the fields and back onto the road again with a swerve to the right. Then he readied the rifle, clenched his fist and honked the horn three times.

Agonisingly slowly the walkers turned their heads and began limping towards the jeep. Evan could only hope his friends were fast runners.

He aimed down his sights and fired a shot, then another, and another in a desparate attempt to keep the walkers at bay for as long as possible.

Hurry up! He thought. Please hurry up!
