Tales of the RDF - OOC

Shall we continue the IC posts now that the question of what mecha everyone is going to use is resolved?

Sure! I have a question about training, though. Looks like Taniya is the only one who will be piloting a new mech. How do you want this done?

I thought that Eadric was taking a new Spartan. The MECT and pilot skill is the same for the new generation mecha, so other than a short amount of time to familiarize yourselves with them, you are all set.

I thought that Taniya already had the pilot skill for the Officers Pod. So, everyone gets to add two skills for this level while Taniya gets her pilot Officers Pod and the MECT for it.

Make that one skill. Taniya has pilot destroids, so she just needs the combat training in the pod.

But... I already spent and applied it on gymnastics and upgraded my character sheet... I thought we were... Oh boy.

Add one extra skill (meaning two total), or one skill total (the one we got for this level)?

Dann needs the MECT for the Officer Pod, so he will get that skill for free, and since he is getting a free one, everyone else gets a free skill in addition to the one you get for leveling up.

Question about the UEEF Spartan's melee section. The old one had a stat for tear/pry/crush with hands (6d6 MD) but the new one does not. Should I use the same damage for the new one? Other damages are the same (except full-power punch, which went from 3d6 MD to 4d6 MD, and jump kick, which went from 5d8 MD to 1d4x10 MD).

Also... I went to update my initiative and it isn't there. I don't see it on the template either. How is that calculated?

Very few MOS selections or silks offer went increased to initiative. HtH Commando had a bunch of initiative bonuses to it, though. So if you don't have a bonus listed, you don't have any until higher levels.

For the tear/pry/crush damage, use the same stats as the older Spartan

Another question! I was thinking of taking Weapons Systems for general purpose weapons-systeming (it's a verb now!), but the list has two different versions, Weapon System and Weapon System (General). Which one applies here?

Go ahead and use the bonuses listed for Weapon Systems(General)

It has Read Sensory Instruments as a prereq. Dann reminds me that your house rules give us that for our particular mech as part of the combat training. Would that, plus Eadric's other engineering and such skills, let him bypass the prereq, or do I need to use my second slot for that? (I'd been thinking of taking Mecha Electronics, if that helps.)

Hey guys! In the middle of all your other games, don't forget to post here, too!

Forgot to reply to this (sorry!) Yes, with the house rule we have in effect, that will cover the prereq.

Dann and I are at a disagreement regarding how skill percentages work upon acquiring a skill, so I go to you to resolve it as GM. :)

When one acquires a new skill, and it's got the base skill listed as a percent with a +% of some kind, what do you actually get? For example, if it's listed as Base skill: 50% +5%, do you start off at 50% or at 55%?

I always thought the +% was what you added as you increased in level, not what you got upon initially taking the skill. Dann says you do get it when you first take the skill, and he's got a lot more experience in Palladium than I do, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

All this time, I always read it as (base skill) + (per level of experience including the first). So, if you have 30% + 5% per level of experience, and you're third level, you've got 45% (30%) + (5% x 3). Yes?

I have always gone with Kaerri's read of it, that the bonus percentage starts at second level, and all you get at first is your base shui and any iq bonus you may have. Sorry Dann

Sure! It's your game after all. I'll adjust Taniya's character sheet immediately. =)

Hey @Dannigan and @Beowulf, you guys going to make a IC post or should I make a post moving forward with the training time that Taniya needs for the officer pod?

Huh! I have not been receiving alerts here. Thanks for tagging me, Sherwood.
