Tales of the RDF - OOC

Thanks for the "Well Thought Out" on my last post, Sherwood. =)

I made a small error in that post (IC #398); Major Lang pinned Taniya's rank of Staff Sergeant on her uniform, not a medal. I've edited the post. =)

I call 'em as I see 'em. You are one of the best gamers I've ever known, and that's not just because you're the ST of mine in another game.

You have said this before, and it still feels good to hear. Thanks, you! =)

Have some questions for you guys. I am getting close to the end of this story arc, and I want some feedback on what direction you want to go in the future. There is the option to go out into space with the United Earth Expeditionary Force (UEEF, AKA REF) and adventure there with the intent on getting the Robotech Masters to play nicely with Earth, or, stay on the planet and either join the newly forming Army of the Southern Cross or stay in the RDF as ground forces.

If you choose to go into space, you would then have the option to pilot the new mecha being developed, including the custom work of the modified Female Powered Armor that I have made up. Of course, with the space option, both Connor and Eadric would be learning to operate the new mecha (they would have to in order to be able to keep up with the flight speed of the Zentraedi suit of armor). This would give Taniya the chance to go back into the armor of her dreams and fly at mach 15 in space once more. What do you think of this?

I love the idea of getting Taniya into just about any flight-capable mech (especially modified Female Power Armor), however I would like to see our players-new-to-Robotech (Beowulf, Kaerri) choose our story direction. I mean, Sherwood, you and I have been playing Robotech for ages, but this is Kaerri's first Robotech game and Beo, what is this? Your second? This universe is still quite new to the both of you. What would you like to see or do?

Another thought crosses my mind here - Beowulf might not want this McKinley to join Southern Cross here as it might cause conflict with his other Connor McKinley character in your other Robotech (Southern Cross/Rifts) game?

As for me, I like the idea of keeping the game somehow close to Earth. That way we can have missions of many varieties (space, sky, land, sea). Taniya is fond of her new home of Earth and would like to know more about it historically, geographically, etc. Maybe we don't have to stay in Brazil, but maybe we could cross over to other countries and places (fight E.B.S.I.S. or whomever and alien baddies of whatever origins).

Whatever happens, this is the Palladium universe, and with good ol' Sherwood at the helm, we can go and do basically whatever we want. =)

Thoughts?

I can do a game based on the Earth/Moon area; perhaps as far out as Mars? Hmmm. Possibly. But, I would want to have the entire group to make their opinions known. Heck, I might even throw you into Rifts Earth, just to see you guys struggle to make it there with all the demons and magic all around. (} :) ) In any case, what do @Kaerri and @Beowulf think about the future plotlines of the game?

Finally, how does Taniya respond to having a civilian reporter showing an interest in her and her team? What does Connor and Eadric do with their new medals?

I'd prefer to stay in this universe, as it were, and hold off on the Rifts for a while. :D I'm enjoying a purely technological game much more than I thought I would.

Other than that, I don't much mind where we go.

Not sure about Eadric's medal yet but I'm sure he'll tell me before my next IC post.

I can work with that, and I'm glad that you're enjoying the game.

The vote has gone to stay on Earth. I'll add the write-ups of some new mecha for you guys to test pilot shortly, and we will see where the story takes us once we start getting some more IC posts after the award ceremony.

I'd love to post tonight, but I'm just too beat from work. Tomorrow it is! Zzzzzzzz.... =)

Thanks. Sleep was goooood. =)

Taniya still wants to pull Tolson aside once we are able to train for our 4th level skills. =)

Everyone, get ready to put on your earplugs as Taniya discovers the new FPA heading her way for her to pilot. "Squeee!"

My personal favorite of the new generation mecha is the Defender. I like the new weapon systems on it, making it much more versatile than before. Its new look is pretty cool, too.

Yeah, Taniya's going to flip when she sees that! The very idea of her being in an airborne mech is dear to her, but a new Female Power Armor she knows nothing about? Just wow!

Re: New FPA. She's a real monster, too. Those new chest-mounted grenade launchers are super-accurate and nasty on damage, but at only 10 pulls of the trigger per cannon (2), she'll have to nurse those rounds. The size of the thing also caught me off-guard. 60 feet tall? That's more than twice the height of the new UEEF mecha. I hope size won't be a problem in certain missions or Taniya will find herself waiting outside (or in another mech type). The missile racks and auto-dodge are nothing short of incredible, plus the upgraded main-body M.D.C. is nice and the reinforced pilot's compartment and new sensors are a blessing. The MECT bonuses are just awesome. Truly a machine meant to be flown by aces. =)

Re: New Tomahawk. The thing has a hand now! How cool is that? A shame it only gets one main cannon. It sure hits hard, though. Lots of missiles too, though I'll miss the +6 air-to-air missiles from its six-pack. That sword is cool. Neat look to the mech, too.

Re: New Defender. Sure, she looks sweet, but I can't help but see a downgrade here. With no SHORAD, she's actually a little less potent than before. The SHORAD gave +3 to strike on all targets; the new system gives that +3 to slow-moving targets but only a +1 to "fast-movers." What I don't get is the new version uses lasers. I would think she'd be equal or more accurate, not less. Plus with slightly-less damage on the main guns, the removal of area-of-effect damage (air-burst rounds), and the removal of the sensor suite that provided bonuses to all friendlies are together a real loss. The that little new mini-missile system is cool, though.

Re: New Spartan. This is the upgraded RDF mech I'm most impressed with. From 65 mph top speed to 120 mph? Now that is a ground mech that can make it to and from the battle quickly! It's faster on the ground than the new FPA and twice as fast as any of its predecessors! Those two shoulder-mounted cannons have a range of 5 miles? Yay! The damage and rate of fire might not be great, but at least it can reach out that far now. It's a shame the short range missiles had to be ditched in favor of mini-missiles, but hey, it still has two hands and that means it can carry a mech-sized rifle of some kind. Give it a good one and this is one tough puppy. =)

Re: Phalanx and Monster. Still two great mechs to have around. =)

Questions:

1. There is mention that the new FPA can carry a folded-up Cyclone in her storage closet (also nice to have a closet!). Will there be Cyclones too? Taniya's a motorcycle fan!

2. Anyone else see a similarity between the new mecha and the Alpha Veritechs (that's the mech in the background of the picture of the new Monster)? Especially the new Phalanx? Neat!

3. The Red Pandas are due in for action at 1100 hours on the next day. Will we have the chance to train for our new skills between now and then?

Regarding the size of the FPA, that is straight out of the book for the Zentraedi full sized pilots, and I had not considered making it smaller. Looking at the write up for the new Officer Pod for the UEEF, it is much smaller, so I will go and drop the height to the 40 foot tall range. Don't forget, the FPA mod is my own design from me wondering why the most dangerous Zentraedi vehicle is not being modified for the micronized troops.

For your other questions: I will let you guys add the new skill of your choice before going out on your next combat mission. Keep in mind that the MECT skill that you currently have for your destroids and FPA will work with the new UEEF mecha, so you won't have to purchase them again.

I don't think that the Cyclone will be brought into this unless you guys make the twist decision to leave the planet with the UEEF forces. First off, only the FPA has the extra room for a Cyclone inside it; the other destroids don't have them at all. Second, if you stay on Earth, most of the new gear will be moving off planet to make room for the ASC to take over, with a skeleton crew of RDF forces left behind.

Cool! Thanks for the smaller size on the FPA, Sherwood!

Re: Cyclones. I meant for the whole team down the road in Cyclone-only adventures (or heck, maybe even with "backpacks" on the mechs to carry them in or what-have-you). You asked what direction we wanted to head, so I'm just tossing ideas around. I figured you have modified Boom Guns and Xiticix from Rifts into your ASC and RDF FPA here so maybe anything was possible here.

Re: Skill choice. It seemed that the Red Pandas would eventually be upgrading their mechs. It has not entered Taniya's mind that the whole team might stick with Destroids while she's in the only flight-capable mech. Taniya's thinking everyone might eventually upgrade to VF-1A Veritech fighters, ASC Veritechs, or what-have-you. Now, remember a short while back, Barbara expressed a fear of heights? If the Red Pandas go airborne, that tells that Tolson can't stay with the squad. I don't want that (and I'm probably not the only one). So, Taniya's idea was to grab Barbara and teach her the Acrobatics skill (which Taniya learned at 3rd level). Folks trained in Acrobatics have no fear of heights. So that was my way of trying to keep Barbara in the Red Panda Squadron.

And on that note...

Re: Your new FPA. She is a two-seater (pilot & gunner) like the old Tomahawk, right?

Your mecha will have a second seat, but slightly less room in your storage compartment, and Barbara will be happy to pick up acrobatics.

I don't wanna leave my Defender for the new one. Mostly because I'm not a fan of lasers because reasons. Also because now Connor's going to have to leave behind his divet, unless they can switch out the seats...

What if there were some kind of arrangement that allowed you to keep the old guns on the new chassis or something equally crazy?

Hmmm. I hadn't thought that you guys wouldn't want to jump at the new mecha; better speed, more armor, more variety of weapons, and the new arm cannons do more damage. But, I also want to keep my players happy. So! If you want, make a IC request to keep your old mecha with lt rosetti.

Good Sherwood, that's the problem - the new Defender's arm cannons don't do as much damage as the old. Plus what I mentioned in Entry #693 above... It has a little more armor and the speed increase is negligible.
