Anyone who wants their character to have spoken with Lily over the timeskip may assume so, learning that she is a Dragonkin (obviously) Rogue whose name is Lily. Just let me know if she also learns anything of your character.
Alright, since it's very late around here and I will head to bed in a few minutes, the timeskip will have to wait a few hours (until I wake up). However, meanwhile you can do as CallSign and write stuff that your character may do during the travel so we have some sense of progression even though we have not roleplayed it.
Laria will just point out the correct direction and talk just the necessary. She will mostly be reading one of her books in silence while walking, although if someone wants to talk with her about anything she will politely answer. Of course, if you don't talk to her or you didn't know her name from before, you will end the timeskip without knowing it.
Hn. Let's see. Time-skip actions and conversations.
Right, so clearly we're leaving town. Still, what shops are (were) available and are (were) currently open? Cause bit of shopping before adventuring is necessary. And taking that into account. Currency system.
Then again, Hachi seems to have that covered. Still I'd like to know the currency system, cause as a Pressmaster I need to make sure I've got my currency ready proper.
If anyone willingly got into a conversation with Crawley, it'd mostly be him discussing the joys of the life of the seaman. Or something along those lines yeah.
Also if Laria is incorrect in her direction of being North, South, East, West etc. Crawley will correct it, for the Captain must charter the direction across the seas properly.
Everyone will learn El Saldo's name. He is a talkative fellow always up for a chat. They will learn that his god Marad represents beauty and balance. He will conduct training for Vallen when the camp rests. I'll discuss this with @DergTheDergon as it comes up.
To elaborate on El Saldo's gift of shoes to Vallen, yes, the shoes are loud and squeaky. No, neither I nor El Saldo are trying to humiliate you or Vallen.
In many martial arts, students wear encumbering, noisy or otherwise frustrating objects of clothing as training aids. Sumo, for example, requires novice sumotori to wear particularly noisy and clumsy geta sandals when they train to teach them the finer points of balance as it pertains to their art. The squeaky shoes are a similar concept for the Marad Arts, with the added bonus of the loud squeaking being an absolute pain in the ass. They will teach Vallen to be light and agile on his feet without sacrificing his balance since that will result in less noise. More importantly they will teach him patience and acceptance in the face of frustration, something El Saldo believes Vallen sorely needs. El Saldo will not explain this in detail of course, expecting him to learn on his own, but I'm giving you pointers just so you're aware.
Only students with potential get the footwear, and moving on from it signifies personal growth and earns additional respect from the master. It can be considered a promotion, if you're so inclined. I think it is a good start for Vallen in regards to his training.
Gustav is going to be leading up the back of the group, maybe sharing conversation with the book girl, lending him some of his own books to look over, and learn from. But mostly, just observing his surroundings, being deep in thought, praying, or humming soft tones to himself to keep his mood bright. Tending to avoid Lily, Ajax, and Hadi. Gustav's has not enjoyed his run ins with them, and wished to stay away from them until he thought of a way to befriend them. He also is interested in talking to Vallen and talking to him. Gustav is joyful to talk to El Saldo, but did not like his aggressive actions and thinking he was the boss of him, when they have only shared one conversation, though he did want to get to know the man more. Gustav also had no problems with any of the Etherborn girls, and would be glad to converse with them as well.
Alright, let's see, things Ajax does. For narrative reasons I guess I'm going to write them out as I would in the IC.
Ajax did speak at large about feasting before departing and he will not be denied. Whether this turns into a day-long celebration of debauchery and excess or not is up to you all, Ajax will consider the feasting fulfilled by mid-day but the villagers will probably carry on well into the night regardless. With a big bonfire and everything. It's so rare that they get to celebrate anything. Obviously, his name will be thrown around quite a lot during this feast and he will likely hold or encourage folk wrestling contests if they stay the night.
Once that's done and the traveling actually starts, Ajax will obviously stand in the front even if he has no idea where they're going and probably needs someone who does over there with him. It's the principle of the thing. He'll talk to anyone who feels like talking to him and be his usual self. The more upbeat if rude and mocking one rather than the killy one. He'll talk about training, fighting, the wilderness, the feast and so on. He'll even put up with Vallen and Gustav if they don't say or do anything stupid, but he will laugh at Vallen's shoes.
To hell with it. Gustav can not argue with a feast, and I like like your style. i also think before the time skip, we should add the feast into the IC thread.
Gustav will join the feast, and provide a very goofy sing song. He knows a few of the locals since he lived in a nearby village, and gets them to start a dance, and a small band together to add to the feast. Though, departing by night or morning would not matter. Who doesn't like a feast? And who could argue with a man who just strangled a grizzly to death, and was offering food to all the party? Gustav obviously wouldn't like the threats, though, inviting everyone to be part of the feast was more than enough to get him happy and jolly again.
Instead, Gustav would like to attempt to share conversation with Ajax, avoiding talk of religion all together. Gustav will see it as a friendly conversation, and thinks it will be in the sake of good heart, and who could be upset after a feast? He would like to share conversation about adventures, food, and battles. Though, Gustav had not killed anyone, he has had his fair share of scrabbles, and knew his way around a fight. His signature move, was dodging out of the first punch, dashing to the side of the extended arm, and smashing his book to the back of their head attempting to knock them out. If Ajax wanted to share such conversations as such. Gustav would also be willing to learn a bit from Ajax about training, fighting, and the wilds of Ajax's homelands. Gustav wouldn't be interested in how to snap a mans neck, but he would be interested in how to keep someone properly pinned down, and how to improve his physical strength. If Ajax ever had interest, Gustav would be more than willing to show him a few of his own powers. Even if they were sissy magic to Ajax. I don't espect them to get along a lot, and i still imagine there to be arguments, but, Gustav knew his place, and wouldn't push to hard with his faith... For now at least, but Gustav still wants to befriend Ajax, or at least learn what he can from him.
If that is cool. Also, if people did not already know his name, he would obviously introduce himself to everyone individually. Then if not talking to people, he would jsut be humming to himself, or thinking deeply. Maybe even reading one of his holy books.
Vallen would of course join in with the feast, avoiding Ajax as much as possible. He'll talk with anyone that approaches him, and they will know his name and about his fighting style if they ask.
He'll also make a point of introducing himself to Laria, as they have not formally met as of yet.
A few things: Ajax doesn't really threaten anyone for this. More of a "hey guys lets do this thing!", incessantly and practically dragging them around in a friendly but firm manner. Given what we've seen of the townspeople they're obviously gonna cave, but get a lot more into it when they realize that hey, this might be fun. And then it's fun and they like it. And that's how Ajax got a town to throw him a party for no pay whatsoever.
Now, Ajax is in a merry mood but still liable to tell everyone Gustav failed to defend his faith and to look at him, look at him and laugh. Probably as a best case scenario. Or he might just tell him to go away and let them both enjoy what might be the last good time they have in their lives. Like, it's going to be hard for them to talk at all because he already dislikes the guy, just because they're in a feast that's not going to change.
Talking about fighting with Ajax is complicated because he will hold you to a high standard. For instance, the signature move you just gave he'd scoff at and call it messing up a basic counterpunch, going about it in such a way that it would only work against those who are heavily drunk or otherwise impaired and going for a huge swing with no regards for personal defense, something only an amateur would try against other amateurs. Not to mention attacking the back of the head is actually more lethal than the face.
Maneuvering around an opponent's extended arm, into a range where you can effectively attack the back of their heads with a book, is not that easy. The time it takes for someone to retract their hand and guard themselves isn't all that long and they can still move around, choose to follow into the punch and grapple or just like, shift into an elbow while you're trying to pass and sock you in the face. He'd also call fighting with a book stupid, it's not even an actual weapon and he'd see it as trying to look nice and civilized in something as naturally messy as a fight.
When it comes to fighting he'd also emphasize training relentlessly and fighting to kill or maim, going to him and asking for advice in what he sees as half-assed fighting would only tick him off. As for physical training methods, that might come over naturally over the course of the story, just him detailing ever-escalating exercises, but looking at them as a fitness thing rather than a "LIVE TO BE STRONGEST" mentality will also not sit right with him. He's not a hobbyist, some pampered guy trying to feel good about himself, he thinks this is the highest purpose in life.
He also wouldn't really be interested in Gustav showing off his powers unless the priest approaches it as "hey, I can do this flashy, fun thing for the festival". That might be a good way to start getting along better with Ajax, contribute something he'll appreciate, though of course he should be prepared to have his faith powers taken as literal parlor tricks and children's amusement. He'd also accept it if the priest were to try and fight him in a fit of drunken stupidity. Liquid courage is better than no courage.
Right. So Pressmaster Crawley likes Shoreleave. And a feast is far more Shoreleave-y. And since he agreed to not drag his crew immediately to Port, and go on this diversion. He will not argue the feast.
@Boomrocker: Laria seems quite excited to have El Saldo de Marad in their party. She has heard lots of stories about El Saldo and his order, and knows they are all strong fearless monks. She even exchanged some words in totally-not-Spanish with him. She seems to be very fluent in it, probably because she is from the capital. Laria mentioned her name in the conversation.
@Darksoul180: although she had already read all the books Gustav handed to her, she did skim over them, without reading anything in special. She complimented the extremely good and beautiful bookbinding, printing and cover, but lamented she already had already read them all several times.
Laria also commented she had quite a few books with her and that she could hand him one if he ever needed, but her tone seemed to grow colder while mentioning that he should be really careful with them.
Of course, Gustav has also learned her name.
@DergTheDergon: Laria cordially greeted Vallen and introduced herself. She talked a bit about the travel and how important it was for her to be here, fulfilling her dream, but other than that she seemed too confused to bring up any other conversation topics. However, she noticed his squeaky shoes, and commented she had read it was indeed part of the initiation rites the disciples of Marad had to do, something about humility and also forcing more agile and soft steps, but she was unsure about the details.
Although a bit reluctant at first, Laria accepted to go with the rest of the party to Ajax's feast. She realized there was no other way around it, and really didn't want to say no to the giant. Despite this, she seemed quite impatient to part as soon as possible, and didn't even try to eat a single bit of the delicious fresh food; instead, she just kept reading her books.
The party left the town at 14:30, even though the villagers were still having some fun. Now, they were all sure they would have to camp outside, but luckily Hachi brought a big tent with him.
@Zerohex Alrighty then, well, whatever small talk they could sahre, Gustav would try to share it.
to everyone, i will be away for awhile, working a lot, and my flatmate and I have to do a lot of house work because people are coming back from college soon and need a place to stay, and our place needs to be redone. So I will be working and dry-walling and such, ill still be around, but not nearly as often.
You either found us as we were leaving the tavern, during the feast or maybe even on the way. There is no need to read any previous posts, as it can all be reduced to an (extremely) long presentation where everybody agreed to go on an adventure to the ancient tomb of a legendary king.
