Mackenzie appreciated William letting her express her displeasure without much more than a grimace, she sighed and leaned against him once more, head against his chest as he questioned what Eli had done. “Besides tell Ash he’s not interested in her right after being left by the angel that impregnated her?” She answered with a growl.

“She said that yesterday they were flirting, and she didn’t think it meant anything because… well it’s them.” Hand fell to his thigh as she spoke, gently tracing patterns directly over where she had just hit him, regretful of her actions. “But I guess by the end of it he’d made it clear that he was interested in her, and perusing something. I guess Hypnos visited them last night, brought them a dream of the two of them together: he called it a prophetic dream, a possible future should they make the decisions to bring them there. Afterwards he told her that he wanted that life, with her and her child –human child, by the way.” She glanced up to him. “And just now, when she went in to check on him he told her that he couldn’t do it, wouldn’t even try. And tried to blame her for his decision: ‘it’s for the best’ is what he said.” She gave another growl but hugged herself close to Will’s side, both annoyed and saddened. “Why even bother? Why toy with the emotional nuclear weapon?”

William sighed as he listened, shaking his head. Normally he wouldn't be particularly surprised, but the news of Elijah unceremoniously rejecting Ashley-May disappointed him. He honestly thought Elijah might feel something real for the woman and the thought of his partner achieving some of the same happiness that Will had found with Mackenzie was comforting. He couldn't fathom why Elijah would deliberately lead Ash on as it sounded like he had. It was low, even for him. At Mackenzie's questioning, he shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I'll talk to him when we get back. I thought..." his voice trailed off.

His mind snapped back to the matter at hand as he noted their surroundings. Knowing the distance they had crossed, they'd be approaching the area Ash had found on the map soon. "We should be getting close," he said, glancing in the rearview mirror to make sure Adelaide was still close behind them. He continued to drive for another minute before slowly pulling off to the side of the road to check their coordinates on his phone. Sure enough, they were just down the road from the designated area. Will reached into the backseat to retrieve the shotgun, grim-faced as he nodded to Mac and stepped out of the Beast.

Mackenzie was certainly not surprised to hear that William didn't have an idea as to why Eli had behaved this way, but that he would speak to him later prompted a frown from Mackenzie. "You're not his father nor is he your responsibility; if he want to be an ass he'll do it alone, or at least without me or Ash there to congratulate him." She had no expectations that Will would no longer associate with him: they were hunting partners, but Mac had no intention of remaining near the man any time soon.

Will soon pulled off the side of the road and she slid along the bench exiting the Mainlines passenger door. Shotgun held in her left hand and ready she wandered slowly down the road a few feet while Adelaide caught up to them both. "No car," She said quietly, looking down at the disturbed gravel she followed what looked to be treads into the tall grass. "Spread out, stay in sight of each other." She looked back toward the other two in her party, "We'll go a ways into the tree line, she wasn't far from the road, right? Might still be near by."

William appreciated Mackenzie's remark, though he couldn't agree with it regardless. He might not be Elijah's father, but Elijah was his brother... or the closest thing he had to one. They were each other's responsibility, even if they were awful at expressing it. Will was more than willing to act the part of big brother... even -- especially -- if it meant beating some sense into Elijah when he willfully rejected the idea of happiness. Will forced the thoughts from his head as Adelaide pulled up. The witch stepped out of the hatchback, approaching with Will's revolver in hand. Mackenzie spoke and both nodded in agreement with the plan, Will hefting the shotgun and racking the slide back to make sure a shell was chambered.

Will waved Adelaide down the road, signaling for her to keep her distance and bring up the flank as they entered the treeline. She frowned but did as he asked. She didn't particularly care for guns, though she wasn't beyond using them when called for. Will had made sure she was proficient with one over the course of several range trips, should the need ever arise. A gris-gris bag was tucked into the pocket of her jacket -- an additional ward against any would-be malicious magic Alison might have waiting for them, though hardly a foolproof one.

With plenty of distance between one another but still close enough to be seen, they crept toward the treeline. Will approached the visible tire tracks in the tall grass cautiously, eyes scanning for any sign of movement as he entered the edge of the woods. He knew hex bags could be hidden among the trees and rocks and they'd never have a chance at spotting them until it was too late -- it would fall on Adelaide to sense them now that she was expecting them after the apartment.

With Will and Adelaide in line Mackenzie started into the tall grass and toward the tree line, double-barrel up front she moved slowly forward in the lead. She knew well enough how deadly hex bags could be and moving in too quickly and too far could be death on it's own accord. The moved together slowly, in the quiet of the day, Mac listening intently for any signs of movement; it wasn't for the witch but the potential pack that she was tuned in for -they were certainly still a threat out this far.

They traveled a fair distance, the Mainline well enough out of sight behind them, without so much as a twig breaking or any sign of hex bags. Mackenzie followed the bent grass path that wove between the trees that really could only be left from a vehicle. Soon enough she paused, alerted by something ahead that was certainly not natural to the scenery and the distinct scent of decay. She tilted her head aside to call back to Will, keeping her eyes forward. "Car ahead, and something long since dead."

She continued forward, edging around the perimeter of where the car was left, doors open and keys in the ignition. Beside it in a patch of grass that looked to be seared away was the remains of a body, decimated but certainly human. Just slightly further was a devil's trap burnt into the earth and broken. Mac continued moving around the perimeter ahead, looking for any signs of the demon that clearly got away, or the pack, allowing both Will and Adelaide to move forward and look over the scene.

William nodded at Mackenzie's call, creeping toward the abandoned vehicle to overlook the scene. The miasma of burnt flesh and hair hung in the air, causing his stomach to turn slightly, but he ignored it. He scanned the surrounding treeline for any signs of movement, ears alert for any sound remotely out of the ordinary but found nothing. Adelaide walked up a few moments later, murmuring in Latin under her breath before lowering the revolver as she looked over the scene with a shake of the head. "Anything?" Will asked her.

She shook her head. "No. No one here -- alive anyway -- unless they're warding themselves against me. No hex bags, either."

Will nodded and stepped forward to examine the Devil's Trap -- not drawn or inscribed, but burned into the earth. He knelt down, setting the shotgun on the grass next to him as he ran his fingers across the singed surface of the grass. The lines were broken along the edge closest to him, eliminating its ability to contain whatever demon it once held. By the looks of it, the demon hadn't taken kindly to being trapped. The nearby corpse was too badly burnt to identify. Adelaide looked it over, lips pursed. "That's one way to make sure a witch stays dead," she said grimly.

William nodded idly. "It could be her. Kills Joe, panics and leaves Vitae to meet up with Mur or one of his soldiers, but ends up outliving her usefulness," he said with a shake of his head. "Can't be sure, though." He looked over at Mackenzie, "Anything in the car?"

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie made her way around the car and perimeter looking for any signs that the demon would return, satisfied they were alone for the moment, she came back to the opposite side of the car and peered in through the window. Will questioned if there was anything in the car. "Not really," She stepped into the passenger door leaned over the seat where paper was scattered. Shotgun set aside she started rifling through the various times, until she pulled out something worth while. "I don't think she did it." She stated then, standing up and holding slip out for the two others with her to look at. "That's an airline ticket for a flight leaving Denver last night before midnight. If Alison was responsible for Joe's death, then she had really bad time management skills." Mac sighed with frustration, she had hoped beyond everything that this would have lead them to the killer and saving Chase from wondering who had been responsible.

As Thor had gone out from the house after his unpleasant little altercation with Ashley-May, he began pondering. The reason why they were so distrustful of him was because he was a god, it wouldn't matter what he did, they would still assume he was out to harm or use them in some way. He wasn't lying when he said he could have claimed the grace, doing it required either the proper spell, a spell that he already knew, or an angel's blade. It was separating the soul from the grace that had been the tricky part. He knew that he could overpower any Nephilim that wasn't the spawn of an archangel, and an unborn one wouldn't stand a chance. But he couldn't bring himself to do it, if he claimed it by force he'd be no better than those of his kind he so despised. No, for him to get the grace he needed to be able to take on the First Sin would have to come from angels, whom he had no qualms taking it from, one strong warrior was better than several weak anyway, and those arrogant, sanctamonious sociopaths deserved it.

But that would mean he'd have to track them down, which was incredibly hard, his best bet had of course been to stay with Ashley-May and wait for a flight of angels to show up, but she didn't want him around, so that would be hard. No, this would have to take more cunning than usual.

I must have spent too much time with Loki... Thor thought as he came up with a plan. He'd change his appearence and hide his abilities, as well as cloak his very presence with magic. New hunters often came to join Vitae, and they were eagerly accepted. This would however call for a great deal of patience from Thor's side, he could not expect to be treated like a god, even though he sourly realised that he would probably be treated with more respect as a human.

The god disappeared, and fifteen minutes later, a black Ford Mustang Boss 429 came driving on the road leading up to the Colony.

This man didn't look anything like Thor's human form did, he looked a decade younger with blond hair and no beard, and he indentified himself as Edgar Dahlberg, a man from Sweden with some of his relatives coming from Germany. However if one looked closely, he had the same smug smile on his lips that Thor had. As he reached he gate, he stopped his car, waiting for someone to let him in.

William stood up and examined the slip Mackenzie held out to him, muttering a curse under his breath as his fist slammed against the hood of the car. He exhaled forcefully, trying to regain his composure. He had been so sure of Alison's involvement -- he had wanted it to be her. Not out of malice, but so that they could at least wrap this up before meeting Chase -- so Will could look the man in the eye and tell him that he hadn't failed twice. But now he didn't even have that.

Adelaide stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on Will's shoulder. She could feel the anger and frustration radiating from him in waves. "She may not have been the one that attacked Joe, but she was still a danger to Vitae... and whatever demon she was communing with still is. We have to try to find out what happened here. As for Joe... were there any other suspects?"

Will nodded slowly, hands on his hips as he looked over at Mackenzie. "Thomas, from New York? He left in a hurry last night, supposedly visiting his grandparents about an hour's drive from here according to Brendan. He'd fit the profile. Strong, athletic, handy with a blade. But we'd be shooting in the dark going after him..."

Adelaide looked down at the Devil's Trap thoughtfully. "She was working with a demon, but clearly didn't trust it. Which also begs the question of how the line was broken to begin with... unless they weren't alone."

The gate guard presently atop the walls of Vitae watched the mustang rumble down the main road towards the gates, once it pulled to a stop the young man climbed down the lowered rope ladder and approached the driver's side of the vehicle. "G'Mornin" He said with a crooked smile, looking over the car with obvious appreciation. "What brings you out this way?" Always the first question each of the gate guards asked; it was simple mistake to assume someone had come to Vitae as a hunter: more than ones a gate guard had approached a car with knife in hand and had to deal with local authority.

Mackenzie tossed the slip back into the car with the other papers, the whole lot would be burned before they left, not wanting to have any ties with the remains nor the demon involved. Anything a borrow witch had would be tainted with the demons power and traceable. "I don't doubt she didn't trust the demon, it's a demon." She remarked watching Adelaide comfort Will annoyed her, mostly because she had not thought to do it first.

"If this witch was borrowing from Mur, then we have reason, Will and I caught him yesterday, or rather he caught us. Told us about Ash and the baby: I would guess he thought he had us in the bag when he said it, but then had to run. Deimos broke his wards and freed us. If they were linked he would know we'd be on the look out for someone passing him information. Maybe she caught wind of it and bolted? She left the colony after we got back, it fits." Of course she couldn't be perfectly certain of this, there was always a chance that there were other factors that lead to this route.

She paused and glanced to Will once more. "Any word from Thomas? Has he reported in at all? Or just up and left in the dark and no answer?" While she didn't want to believe it was another hunter, she wouldn't dismiss the idea entirely: he was the only one left to question at this point. "When are we meeting Chase?"

Mackenzie's theory made sense -- even if it's not what Will was hoping to hear. At Mac's question, he glanced down at his watch. "I'm supposed to meet him in a little over an hour. With Alison marked off the list, we're back to the possibility that the Pack's involved. We need to be there when Chase shows to get him out safely; the Pack could be watching him closely for all we know and he wouldn't suspect a thing when he comes to meet us. He wouldn't deliberately lead us into a trap, but..." he shrugged. "As for Thomas, he hasn't answered his phone or called in since he left. Last Brendan heard from him, he was leaving to take care of his sick grandfather. That's it."

Adelaide narrowed her eyes. "You think Thomas may have been a sympathizer with the Pack?"

Will shrugged. "Just trying to account for all the possibilities. Either way, we need to track him down eventually, but Chase takes priority."

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie nodded, she agreed with Will, they needed to get Chase back to Vitae safely and away from the pack. If this was the pack's doing, if they had the power to infiltrate Vitae, she couldn't understand why they would target Joe. Chase she could understand, he was there inside the pack, but there certainly must have been plenty of other targets available inside of Vitae that made more sense. "We should go then, I want to scout out around where we're meeting him before he get's there. If they know they could already be lying in wait, and I'd rather get the jump on them this time."

Will nodded. "You're right. Let's get going. We can dispose of this later, once we're sure we didn't miss anything," he said, gesturing toward the car and surrounding site. Adelaide was already making her way back to the cars, William following behind. As he reached the Beast, he unloaded the iron shot and replaced them with silver loads taken from the plastic bin he had seen Mac dip into back at the Colony. Setting the weapon in the backseat, he looked up at Adelaide. He considered telling her she could go back to the Colony -- let he and Mackenzie handle the meet, but decided against it. As tempting as it was to remove her from danger, he knew she'd likely decline. And her particular talents could be useful in spotting an ambush for the wolves had a chance to spring it.

Will climbed into the driver's seat of the Beast, firing up the engine as he waited for Mac.

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie looked over the scene once more before turning and following the other two back out to the cards, at the very least it was far enough off the road that not bystanders would wander by and check to see if anyone needed help. She glanced to Adelaide as she returned to her car before getting into the Beast. "We're bringing her, it might be dangerous?" She questioned then, unloading the shells and returning them to the case, the double-barrel returned to the sleeve behind the drivers seat.

She glanced through he rear window once more to the witch that would follow them out, before back to Will. "We need to ask Chase about the wolf in Joe's phone: it might be responsible for his death. Not really their M.O. so far, but if Chase and the djinn both walked through the gates then it could still be there, smuggled in by Joe....?" She knew it was a stretch, but she wanted to cover all bases. Mac was already replacing the iron knife sheathed at her belt with a second silver one. She wouldn't use either while scouting around the area, claws would be far more effective if they were ambushed.

William looked in the rear view mirror at Adelaide. "She can handle it," he said, though he was trying to convince himself as much as Mac. Adelaide was no stranger to life-or-death situations and had been in more than a few alongside he and Elijah... but she was no Hunter. He didn't like putting her in danger and would have likely sent her back to Vitae if he thought they could do without her help.

As Mackenzie mentioned the feral wolf, Will cocked his head in thought. "Andy, that was the name in the texts. It's definitely worth looking into. We know Joe was." He paused as she mentioned Chase and the djinn managing to get into the Colony. "You think Joe smuggled more than Chase in?" He was suddenly struck by the realization that none of them had looked any further into the methods by which Chase had managed to get into the Colony to begin with. Obviously Joe had some connection, possibly someone on the inside to facilitate, but who? He liked to think that it wasn't a factor now that Chase was working with them, but whoever it was could very well be a suspect in his death.

Will shifted the Mainline into drive, pulling back onto the road and heading towards the established meeting point, glancing up to make sure Adelaide was following close behind.

Solomon gave a brief smile to Ruth as she explained he would be getting a cot in the barracks. While he doubted it would be better than a hospital bed at least it was something. " Thank you for letting me know, that's wonderful news. Does the Council usually ask that everyone attend their meeting?" Solomon asked rather curious if this was common place. Solomon then shook his head he had meant for that to be a rhetorical question but it didn't seem to come off that way., " Nonetheless thank you for letting me know. I'll be sure to be there. Now, I think I've gotten enough exercise for one night.... goodnight Miss Ruth."

Hypnos followed behind the Kitsune as they entered the Gold Pavilion. When the Fox asked when Thanatos would arrive the death God appeared behind him. " I'm his brother before a friend." Thanatos said as he approached the seal. It was at least as complex as the one that held Pasithea, and almost as powerful. Nonetheless Thanatos could break it. " Just need to break it right?" Thanatos asked as he summoned his scythe.

"Edgar" smiled at the man who approached him "Good morning, I heard of your colony here, and I would lie if I said that I wasn't intrigued. I feel like I could do more as a hunter if I joined a large group of them, like here. My last partner got severely injured by a demon a few years back, been doing this solo since then. Would be nice to have others to watch my back again."

He showed no sign of not telling the truth, and waited patiently for a reply.

Mackenzie gave a slow shrug, "It seems far more plausible that a feral werewolf killed him than one of our own. Or that Thomas, of all people, killed him and is a pack sympathizer. He shot Chase when Alaric brought him back to Vitae as a wolf. That's not your first instinct if you sympathize with them. There are too many what-ifs out there and I don't like how shady this has been." She brought one need up on the bench, wrapping her arms around it as she thought. "We should ask Chase about Andy first, before we tell him about Joe. I don't like it, but if we tell him about Joe he might take off and we need answers from him if we're going to figure this out."

The gate guard nodded slowly as Edgar revealed himself to be a hunter -it had been suspected when the guards on the wall first spotted the mustang in the distance. "Sounds good by us, just that... well we need to do a couple of test's here before you head in, you know. Standard stuff." The man was pulling an iron flask from this pocket and holding it out for Edgar to take a drink of the holy water within, followed by a silver blade to nick himself with. With both test's completed the gates slowly opened. "Alright, well head on in, take a left. That's where you can park your car and it's where the barracks is. Councilmen Jack and Councilmen Hendrix will want to speak to you, they always do with fresh hunters.. OH, almost forgot. Once you're in follow the crowd to the Rec center and mess hall, get yourself some breakfast; there is a meeting this morning."

"We didn't say it wasn't simple" Himiko spoke looking at Thanatos, " it's meant to trap Kitsune that attempt to break it. You're not Kitsune.... Though this seems to easy, two Kitsune and two pagan gods show up to free her, and no men of letters show up to prevent it."

"On top of that," Jordan added, " There seems to be no demons attempting to stop us from freeing the one person who would be most adept to keeping the First Sin sealed~"

William grimaced at the thought of postponing the news about Joe for Chase. Even if it did make a ruthless kind of sense, it felt like a betrayal. He said nothing, simply continuing to look at the road ahead. He didn't want to believe Thomas or any other Hunter was responsible for Joe's death, but after Alison -- a dedicated, unassuming, and hard-working nurse -- was revealed to be working against the Colony, he wasn't willing to make any assumptions of innocence... not with what was on the line. In that regard he agreed with Mackenzie: there were a lot of unknown variables in play.

Reaching the edge of the clearing they had met Chase in the day before, Will pulled off the road and brought the Beast to a stop, with Adelaide coming to a stop moments later. His eyes scanned the treeline for anything out of the ordinary, though he knew that if the Wolves were intent on ambushing them he'd never see the first sign of danger until it was too late.

dx0HE3H.jpg

They pulled into the clearing slowly and Mackenzie was already pulling her claws from the leather bag that contained the remained of her armor. Slipping the left one one and clinching the straps tightly closed she slid across the seat and opened the door. Stepping out of the Beast in silence she was too aware that Will didn't like what she had said; the had a job to do and that was protect the colony. If Joe had been responsible for his own death, then they didn't owe the man a thing. She closed the door behind her and turned to face Will. "Stay close to the Beast and Adelaide," She pulled the other gloved weapon over her right hand, using her teeth to fasten it closed. "Don't worry about me, I'm an Oracle: they can't hurt me without being warded against gods, and even then, Diemos is still following me."

She wasn't going to debate with him about the mechanics of her decision, both things keeping her safe wouldn't do anything for Will and Addy. She turned and started into the woods, intent on circling the perimeter searching for anyone that might be laying in wait.

Larissa heard about the summons and quickly left the barracks to go to the rec center. She had no idea what was going on, or any idea if she was going to have an idea, given how naturally untrusting Hunter's were. I mean, look at her own past. She sighed softly as she walked into the rec center and looked around seeing all of the people. She felt particularly uncomfortable in such a large group, was this really a colony of hunters? She bit her lip softly and ran a hand through her hair as she watched everyone, they also were all human, right? She let out on exasperated sigh and shook herself to try to pull herself out of her paranoia.

Hypnos turned to the Kitsune as Thanatos gathered his power, " From what I can tell the Men of Letters is a fragmented organization with multiple branches being shut down. I think that Japan no longer has a branch, but even if it did I've taken measures to make sure they don't know we're here, and I did it using the demons you're so worried about. Something you don't know is that a Nephillim is going to be born soon. So to shield the mother from Heaven's Wrath and Hell's grasp I've created copies of her, millions of self sustaining copies all around the world. The demons are too distracted with that to both us. Not to mention....." Hypnos paused for a moment as Thanatos touched the Stone with his Scythe. Tendrils of darkness arched through the Stone like a sickness, weakening it. Once it was completely consumed Thanatos sliced the Stone in two and a burst of magic exploded outward as the seal was broken. " Not to mention demons tend to stay away from my brother."

Deimos wasn't sure how to feel about Mackenzie walking into what amounted to enemy territory just because she had him at her side. There was confidence and then there was reckless abandon. Nonetheless he would follow her on, making his presence more known as they disappeared from sight.

William stepped out of the Beast, prepared to argue with Mac about her intent to scout the perimeter alone. His mouth opened to deliver a reply, but he thought twice as she marched resolutely into the woods. Instead he muttered a curse under his breath, reaching into the back of the Mainline to withdraw the shotgun as Adelaide approached, not meeting his gaze.

"You're worried about her," Addy said quietly.

"You need your gift to tell you that?" Will said, with more of an edge to his voice than he intended.

Adelaide was unfazed, smiling. "No, not really. You love her -- anyone can see that. She'll be fine. I don't sense anything and besides: if half the things you've told me about her are true, the wolves have more to fear from her than the other way around."

Will shook his head, his features softening as he smiled despite himself. "Yeah." After a moment, he sighed. "Ash called on the way over."

Adelaide raised her eyebrows. "Something wrong?"

William cocked his head. "You could say that. Nothing life-or-death." He paused, thinking about Mac's promise regarding Elijah. "Hopefully. Elijah and Ashley-May had... a bit of a falling out. They were getting close..."

Adelaide nodded. "I know. I felt it from both of them." She narrowed her eyes, her tone sharp. "What did that idiot do?"

Will sighed. "Apparently he tried to back out and let her down easy... by indirectly blaming her. Said it was best for both of them or some bullshit like that." He shook his head ruefully. "I honestly thought that Ash would be a good influence on him, convince him to... I don't know."

Adelaide turned to look at the woods where Mackenzie had entered, nodding. "You want for him what you've found. I get it... but he's a Legacy, Will. It's in his blood."

"So is Mac."

Addy came along to take a seat on the back of the Mainline and crossing her legs. "True. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that he might need a little... coaxing."

William turned to look at her, surprised. "You're talking about an intervention?" he asked incredulously.

Adelaide shrugged with a smirk. "I'm game if you are."

Chase had arrived a good thirty or so minutes before the meeting, leaving him time to check the nearby area's and backtrack a little to make sure none of the pack was following him. While he had Emile's word none would, he still needed to be sure because blowing the whole operation wouldn't end well for any of them at the meeting place. After being content that nothing was out of the ordinary he'd shifted into his naked human form and waited.

It wasn't too long before he'd heard the sound of Will's truck heading off the road and in Chase's general direction. However through the trees he could see that they weren't alone, another car was following. Not far enough to be a tail which meant it was invited, this was enough to keep him hanging back rather than announce his presence. Then once the vehicles were parked and the truck emptied he could see that Mac had openly armed herself with a gauntlet of sorts as well as Will pulling a weapon from the truck. Now, Chase wasn't one to be paranoid but he couldn't help but see the two red flags waving. Something had changed since the last time they'd, and he didn't very much like it. This was all business, the other time he'd caught the two of them acting like teenagers at a drive-in theater.

The female of the duo started for the trees, and while he knew it wasn't the best idea to surprise a hunter split from his or her group...well Mac was putting herself in that position on her own so he wasn't at fault. Once she slipped into the treeline and neared his position Chase spoke up with only a hint of sarcasm despite what he was saying being sarcastic, "Can't decide what hurts more, the fact that you might trust me to check the area. Or that you might have that fancy glove out just for me."
