The Pack 'Courir de Nuit'
8uA8ZNI.jpg

The pack pursued the wolf through the woods gleefully. Always loving a good chase, prey taking a winding path through the dense forest. They knew they wouldn't taste his blood. They would not get his kill, but the Alpha would have him, and that was satisfactory enough.

The wolf veered and they maneuvered to keep him on track. He would not escape them, not this time. He arrived, but they would not leave. They remained in the thicket, watching, ever ready to jump if he even looked like he would give the Alpha trouble.

They would witness. Their Alpha's word was law, but they wanted blood. They wanted vengeance for their slain allies, they wanted the loner punished for choosing humans, hunters, over their own.

Émile Leroux
wJW3SIq.jpg

Émile waited, he knew the pack, his pack, was leading the loner to him. He could sense Malcolm's anxiety, the man paced beside the vehicle repetitively. Front to back. Back to front. Émile was not worried, however. If the wolf had any sense, which it seemed he did thus far, he wouldn't be bold enough to attack him unprovoked. It gave Émile hope that the colony may be understanding to the cause, may come to yield to his terms. If they willingly allowed the wolf-hunter among them, then certainly some where sympathetic. Or at least he hoped.

The loner burst through the bush into the woods clearing before him. He was larger than Émile had expected. His pack had down played the loners size, but he was surprised by the difference. Often loners were small, gangling things: malnourished, most times. It was hard to hunt alone in a wold of hunters, or at least that was what the other loners that had joined his pack in the past have told him, but clearly this wolf had found a way. He was an oddity, a curiosity to Émile. This was a pure bred wolf, not some mutt, half turned concoction his brethren created. Nor had this wolf been bitten by an Alpha, few and far between that there were. This wolf had been born a wolf, had wolf parents; or at least a wolf parent. And yet here he was, running as a loner, living with a colony of hunters. Why would any wolf chose this life?

The wolf moved closer, head lowered he was growling. Malcolm moved forward, defensively but Émile raised a hand, calling off his Beta.

"J'ai présent."

Émile waited as Malcolm hesitated but then, eventually, moved off into the woods to leave the Alpha to speak to the loner. "Vous vous attendez a ce queje fasse tout le parler?" He asked the wolf before him.

From the woods Malcolm cleared his throat. "English, Émile." The Alpha gave a snort but Malcolm continued. "We're in America, they don't speak French." Émile continued to watch the wolf before speaking again, his deep voice accented.

"Well? What will it be? Will we talk, or will we fight?"

Mackenzie
dx0HE3H.jpg

As much as Mackenzie hated being wrong, William gave her sound logic. It irked her to no end that Pan was in there, and that Solomon man had him caught up some how. She needed to know how it worked. She craved the knowledge, she always sought out how to be better at what she was, and until recently that had only been a hunter. Now she was not only a hunter but an Oracle, and so far as she was concerned, she was failing at her second calling.

She smiled, seeing Will's smile, just his presence and gentle touch was enough to sooth the her inner turmoil. She rolled her eyes at the thought of a search party. "You know it would be Maxwell and Anna, too." She said as she walked along side him around the front of the building to the road headed for the command center and where the Council held it's daily meetings. "Those two are honestly his unpaid interns." She said with a slight smirk. "He's got them running around doing so much all the time."

She gave his hand a slight tug, a bounce in her step brought her near enough to give her lower half of his cheek a swift kiss. "At least my Councilmen doesn't have me run off my feet." She teased him, thus far she hadn't done much but bring trouble for Will in his new position, but she was making an effort to change her ways.

When the second man made the first move Chase had turned his attention in his direction, by the fact that he was standing nearby it was clear this was the Beta. The Alpha stopped him before speaking a language Chase didn't understand but knew was French by the accent, his own growling lowered at the words momentarily despite not knowing what was said. And once English was spoken Chase knew the choice he was given, shift and have a word whilst leaving you open or go ahead and try and fight his way out.

Abruptly the growling ceased, and Chase started the shifting process. Once finished and naked as the day he was born Chase reached down and yanked up the pair of pants from the ground, slipping them on with a few grumbles. Being nude wasn't exactly something he was shy about considering it happened each and every time he went out like this, but in front of strangers was a different story. So for the moment he was thankful for the jeans, though he wasn't sure if this was the Alpha's way of sucking up or just being decent. "Can't go into the forests for anything without running into you guys these days." He spoke with a rather annoyed tone, zipping up his fly and crossing his arms over his chest. The Alpha wanted to talk, so here he was to talk.

The Beta clearly had no trouble with baring himself to the world, though the Alpha had decided to wear some pants- "Are those my sweatpants?" He asked in minor disbelief and narrowed eyes. "No, sure. Yeah, help yourself." And if not for the current situation Chase might have noticed that the Alpha filled them out better than he himself did.

"Criss." Émile muttered under his breath, a chuckle rumbling from his chest as the wolf spoke to him. This was certainly a first. A loner, a cocky one at that, talking back to him. His he grinned, silver eyes watching the younger man dress himself, then comment on his own clothing. Émile took a moment to look down at the pair of pants he'd taken from the car before regarding the loner once more.

"I found them." He said, as though that would be explanation enough. "They were in my territory, and anything inside of it belongs to me." Simple explanation for how the Alpha viewed the world of wolves. Regardless that Chase was not part of his pack, he was still within his territory and there fore, what ever Chase owned Émile owned.

It was clear this wolf would not be easy to make come to heel, he was defiant, independent and it made Émile all that more interested. "Let's begin with something simple, eh?" He said with slight humor in his voice. "Mon nom est Émile Leroux. Qui etes-vous?" Easy enough question to begin, as much as he enjoyed the defiance this one had, there were things he needed to know, about the colony and the council. He knew well enough that Mal and Brody were near by and if he didn't at least question the health and well being of their blood kin, there would future stalking of the loner, should he chose to run again in these woods.

Solomon sighed in relief as he was finally given the piece he so desperately needed. Laying in his bed he brought out the dagger which held the Wild God within and spoke an incantation in Hebrew to tighten the restrictions on the overgrown goat. It should keep Pan under wraps long enough for his to get the sleep he needed. He could figure out what time do about Mackenzie when he awoke.

William shook his head at the mention of Maxwell and Anna. Not only was Mackenzie was right -- the two of them worked tireless hours in a largely thankless role -- but Will had come to respect both far more than the Councilman they served so loyally. They seemed to have good heads on their shoulders... the vote was still out where Brendan was concerned.

Mac shot upward to plant a kiss on his cheek and Will chuckled at the comment that accompanied it. "Tempting, but your Councilman expects very different things from you," he said lightly, his mouth twisting into a wolfish grin, swinging his hand, fingers interlaced through Mac's, back and forth as they walked. This kind of bold talk was well out of his comfort zone -- this was all uncharted territory for him. For both of them, he suspected. But something about Mac made it... natural. Maybe not easy so much as worth trying.

Despite the fact that he wasn't backing down, Chase was nervous as all hell. The chance of getting out of this seemed slim to none at the moment, with possibly a dozen sets of teeth waiting behind him and one large set in front of him. There was all of about zero percent of a chance that these wolves weren't a part of the pack alliance threatening Vitae which meant he was a dead man the moment the Alpha realized Chase would be of no use when it came to information on the colony. It was the only reason he could come up with as to why the pack had led him to their Alpha in the first place.

The Alpha proceeded to talk as expected with the, it's on my land so I own it type of simple outlook. Arguing with him about it seemed a bad idea, especially considering they were just a pair of pants.

"Let's begin with something simple, eh?"

Only the beginning, great. Chase listened with a light huff as the Alpha spoke in French once more, "Didn't catch a word of that big guy. English only here, maybe a little of Spanish from Highschool but I dropped that class so, not much in here I'm afraid." Chase raised one arm up to poke at his head before snaking it back across the other one. "Languages aren't my forte. My turn for a question Emile, what do you want?"

Émile was impressed the loner had yet to back down, typically by this time they had. All of the previous wolves he had encountered and done one of two things. They either submitted, and joined his pack, or they attacked him and died. He knew that was what his pack was waiting for, the loner to submit or die, but Émile knew there would likely be a third outcome his pack was not going to enjoy. He barked a laugh hearing the wolf proclaim he didn't understand him, but still caught enough to know his name. Well enough. He continued to grin as the man continued. "My turn for a question Emile, what do you want?" He was still chuckling from the wolfs first comment that this nearly sent him over, he raised a hand to stop the wolf from saying anything more.

"Your name, wolf." He said as he finally, catching his breath. "And what I want is for you to submit and join the pack. Where you belong." It was not difficult to tell the wolf was nervous, the scent cascading from him. It was sour on the wind, and it made Émile grimace slightly. "I do not plan on killing you." He said, then frowned, thinking back on his words, hoping he had said them correctly, when he heard some of the underbrush near his left rustle.

He turned to see Brody wander into the small clearing, hackles raised, he was growling at Chase. Émile shifted from where he had been leaning on the car to step between Brody and Chase, blocking the Guardian's line of sight. "Tabarnak, aujourd'hui est le jour que vous voulez contester moi? Maudit sans-dessein. Partir maintenant ou il sera votre sang versé." There was a moment, a far long and still moment where the woods quieted around the clearing, the other wolfs from the pack waiting. Brody had always been the most defiant of his pack, and the most likely to challenge the Alpha, but clearly today was not that day. The black wolf huffed his displeasure before turning to return to the woods.

Émile watched the Guardian go before turning back to loner at hand, grin returning to his features, like nothing had happened.

Mackenzie
dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie was delighted enough to walk with Will, hand in hand towards the meeting. It was an odd sensation to feel, being close to him. Will always seemed to lighten her mood, push away the darkness and generally make her feel happy. It was certainly not something she was used to. Of course she didn't always live in a dark world of depression -there were light moments, it just seemed that she simply didn't know that the world had color until she had met him.

She had been content in her tiny world of bliss, missing Will's comment for a few seconds after it was said, but then she turned her dark eyes towards his, eyebrow raised. A sly smile crept across her lips, but as she parted to make a comment, she was interrupted by someone clearing their throat out front of the command center. Mac didn't need to look to know who it would be, the man certainly knew how to rankle her.

Brendan Jack
TbTh8wz.jpg

Brendan had watched the love birds wander down the road hand in hand once more. While he did not care one way or the other as to how or why they had fallen in bed together, he did care that they kept their displays professional; hunters had a tendency to .... lose inhibitions when it came to some more private details of their lives. Thus far the two had kept their public displays appropriate. He had hoped they would have noticed him sooner, but when it was clear neither could look away from the other, he cleared his throat to catch their attention.

Seeing he was successful in this, the angry look from Mac was of no surprise, he turned his attention to William, and the far more reasonable of the pair. "I came out to wait for you two, to warn you, Councilmen." He said quietly, knowing anyone could be listening. "The Council met early, without you. They are calling for blood." He paused, and raised a hand. "Not literal, but the want answers for New York, and the believe that Pan is connected to the events." He glanced between the two. "I just wanted you to be prepared for the mood you are walking into."

Emile's sudden laughter caught Chase off guard, even confusing the younger man. For a moment he wondered if Emile was amused by the fact that Chase couldn't understand him or if it had been something he'd said that set the Alpha off. Once the Werewolf asked for his name Chase hesitated, he could always use an alias if he wanted, but at the moment being truthful seemed like the better outcome. Then Emile mentioned that he wasn't going to kill Chase, he was only a little relieved at the words, features on his shirtless body only becoming a tiny less tense. And yet he wondered what the chances were of that being true, it wasn't like he'd be the first creature to lie. But who knows, maybe Emile is some sort of Wolf supremacist and doesn't go after other wolves. If it got Chase points towards leaving here alive who was he to judge?

Before Chase could reply there was movement on his right and a large black wolf appeared through the brush. Said Werewolf looked and sounded rather unhappy as he glared holes through Chase, who at this point had unfolded his arms and tensed back up in preparation for a possible attack. But the Alpha stepped between them and he could no longer see the wolf for the large mans form, Emile speaking once again in French, not that Chase minded if it meant he didn't have to go toe to toe with the beast. The quiet moments after were unsettling, and Chase had taken the moment to turn and scan the area behind him to see if any other wolves were visible but they were not.

The wolf left for the woods not looking pleased and Emile turned back to the matter at hand with a smile like nothing had happened. "My name is Chase." He stated with a purposeful lack of a last name. "Sorry but I won't be joining any packs. The whole Solo Wolf thing works for me, part of the charm." Despite his words, on some small level a part of him wanted to say yes. Maybe that was just the instinctual wolf drawn to a pack thing, but that scared him for a moment.

"Why would you want me to join anyways? Do you make a habit of picking up strays?"

William wasn't sure if he'd been a little too bold, noting the delay in Mackenzie's response to his comment. The moments seemed to stretch by, the awkwardness of them doubling when she turned to glance at him with a raised brow. The smile that appeared vindicated him, dispelling his worries. However, any sense of relief quickly disappeared when he heard that distinctive throat-clearing that could only have one source. Brendan stood there, waiting for them. In his typical blunt fashion, he went straight to the point in explaining the situation that awaited them inside. Will absorbed the information, nodding briefly.

"Thank you for the heads-up," he replied, with genuine sincerity. He was sure that doing so would cause Mac to bristle, but they needed allies... and Brendan seemed like he might be susceptible to such displays of idle manners. He turned to make eye contact with Mac, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Pan wasn't involved, but we have nothing to hide. We'll answer any questions that we can."

Bart

Bart regarded the girl as she stormed away from her father, he wasn't really fond of children of any age, and she was proving the reason why. She questioned him on what they should be doing and he gave her a hard stare. "Yes, ma'am." He said simply, giving her a straight smile. "Or you can wander this fine town, check out it's features." His voice took on a mocking tone, but he cleared his throat. "The mess hall is serving all day, if you're hungry." With the car back through the gates, Bart was signalling to close them once more. "I need to be getting back to my duties." He gave the family a nod, before turning and heading back for the wall and the rope ladder that lead to it's top and his watch post.

Émile Leroux

Émile could tell the wolf, Chase, had calmed, even if it was just slightly. He was still cocky as ever, his spirited and it continued to amuse Émile, the man continued to chuckle. He had to pause to recount what Chase had just said, Americans were in the habit of speaking quickly and failing to enunciate their words which made it difficult for the Francophone to fully understand what he was asked. For a moment he considered calling his Beta back, far more proficient in the English language, instead he figured he would just do his best.

"Strays?" The word must have meant something other than wander away, and Émile made his best guess. "I don't collect strays." He said slowly, the word still unfamiliar. "I recruit wolves." He could only hope he understood what Chase was getting at. "I want my pack to be as strong as it can, and that includes Solo Wolves that don't understand what it is to be a wolf." He gave a deep sigh, hand reaching up to run through his salt and pepper hair. "You smell like them, like the humans, not like what you should. You hide yourself." He paused again, tilting his head aside as something came to mind, hand falling to his side once more.

"Do they know what you are?" He nodded the direction to the colony. "Do they know your nature? Do they treat you like a puppy? Pet you when you're good, feed you scraps? Let you sleep at the foot of their bed?" He chuckled once more at the thought. "They collar you, they track you, like a pet. Be a wolf. Be what you are, and join us."

Brendan Jack
TbTh8wz.jpg

Brendan nodded at William's thanks, knowing his queue to leave a conversation, he turned and stepped into the Command Tent where the rest of the Council was still debating their decisions when it came to Hendrix Mackenzie. He had already told his opinion the two, if somewhat destructive, were necessary for the survival and continuation of Vitae, even after the pack issues had been settled. He took his seat, next the empty place that belonged to Hendrix. And when he was questioned if the two had arrived, he nodded. "They'll be along shortly."

Mackenzie
dx0HE3H.jpg

William was thanking Brendan, though she would make no comment herself; to either of the men. If William wanted to befriend the older Councilmen it wasn't for her to deter him, certainly he would have some reasoning behind it, something she couldn't possibly fathom. She felt his hand squeeze hers and her dark eyes once more turned to his, smile crossing her lips as he attempted to comfort her. She found it odd, given she had no care one way or another if she remained part of the Council, aide or not. She had accepted the position to help him, to prevent him from being manipulated by them, as she assumed they would.

"It'll be fine." She said to him, but she knew it would likely go sideways. Once more she stood on her toes to kiss his lips gently. "Let's get in there, Councilmen, before they decide our fate without us." She would head towards the tent, but along the way she would release his hand. If this were to go the way she assumed, she wanted to be certain few people on the council knew of their connection, no matter how new it was. Stepping within the tent all eyes of the Council members and their aides fell to her. If she had been in the habit of being a nervous person, she would have shied away, but given she was who she was, it only made her back stiffen. She raised her chin and, seeing where Anna and Maxwell stood along the wall behind Brendan, moved to take her place beside them; clearly only Council members sat.

"and that includes Solo Wolves that don't understand what it is to be a wolf."

Chase's jaw clenched, he took offense to the fact that his choice of how to live wasn't up to Emile's standards of Werewolf living. Though he understood the small language barrier that existed when the Alpha's face contorted into confusion during a pause Chase considered leaving it but decided to try and rectify his meaning. He'd even moved from his original spot, pacing two steps to the left then back two steps to the right as he thought on the subject.

"Stray as in," Chase's pacing ended as he faced Emile, "Someone without a place to return to. Somewhere to belong. But I have that, which is why I don't need nor want a pack." It wasn't Vitae he spoke of but Joe, being by his fathers side was exactly where he belonged.

At the mention of Vitae and the down-talking Chase rolled his eyes and rubbed gently at his forehead. "Few do, I hide myself from the rest because most would kill me for what I am. I know this, and I do not blame them because I would do the same. They fear us for good reason and I don't take that fear lightly." He hadn't meant to give such information but something about this conversation just had him going. Chase gave a light snort and his voice raised, "You are the reason wolves like me have to hide among them. You kill them, slaughter them, strike fear into them." He stopped momentarily and took a breath, annoyed with the conversation. Normally he counted himself among Humans more so than Wolves, yet here he was saying them instead of us.

"I am a man before I am a wolf. And surely you've realized by now that I'm a hunter. Mortal enemies and all that." But Chase guessed that Emile saw the wolf in him above the hunter and man. A wolf would submit, a man might consider it, but a hunter would not.

William returned the kiss happily, nodding in agreement as Mackenzie entered ahead of him. He didn't take it personally when she broke their contact -- Will knew she was doing it for them... for him, given how she felt about the Council. She might not care what the Council thought of her, but she knew William did and she was willing to play along. The realization brought that familiar warm glow back to his chest as he entered the tent, taking a brief look around to take stock of the arrayed councilors. Will hated the fact that he'd barely had a chance to get to know any of them since he'd been appointed.

He gave a slight nod to Maxwell and Anna in the far corner, now joined by Mac. William sat down, barely managing to hide his reluctance. He didn't particularly like the arrangement: the Council lounging in their chairs while the aides were kept out of sight and out of mind. Truth be told, he had more respect for their opinions and talents than that of the Council proper. Still, he knew the value of playing the part.

As he settled into the seat -- back straight, eyes forward -- he cleared his throat. "I know you all have questions. I'm not sure what you've heard about what's happened in the last 48 hours, but I'll answer everything I can to the best of my ability."

Émile continued to watch Chase with interest as he provided the definition of the world he had not understood, he was pleased to know he was fairly close to the true meaning behind it. What interested him more what the information that he was providing almost unprovoked. The colony did not know what he was, or at least the vast majority, he assumed those that did was likely very limited and probably the scent he picked up from the shared vehicle he still leaned on. In addition it was clear his message to the colony had never gone past Brendan Jack and the council. At this Émile slowly shook his head, "Half of my pack are hunters, like you." He said calmly, crossing his arms over his large chest. "Before this they were like them." He nodded towards the colony in the distance. "Humans. They chose to join my pack, become a wolf with the rest of us."

He considered his next option carefully, he could threaten Chase, command him to join or die, give the pack the blood they craved; he could see it in the young wolfs face and posture he was not willing to submit, not yet. But he was at least curious. Instead he huffed, his grin returning. "We know the need to Run. To hunt. If you are happy being the colonies pet, we will not stop you." Yes, Émile absolutely felt humans were a sub-species to werewolves, and Chase choosing to live with them over his own kind would never be understood. "Run as you need. Hunt as you need, my pack and my allies will leave you free." He gave a slight shrug, turning to head towards the woods once more, but he knocked on the hood of Chase's car. "But do not bring this thing back. I hate it."

As Émile moved towards the woods the wolves within the underbrush, still hidden from sight were moving away, uncaring about the noise they created or being downwind from him, if Chase paid attention he would know they numbered near twenty now. Émile paused at the edge of the woods, looking over Chase carefully. "When you choose to be what you are, find me." He stepped into the woods and out of sight, a few second's later Chase's borrowed track pants would be returned, sailing through the air to land on the hood of his vehicle.

The council and aides eyes turned to William as he arrived behind Mackenzie and took his seat. Anne and Maxwell both watched the Councilmen nod, but neither reciprocated it, both looking rather nervous. He addressed them which earned a few murmurs around the table, but they were quickly quieted when the Elder stood from his chair to address the table. "As Councilmen Hendrix has said, we all have questions as to what happened in New York and with the gods, and what occurred last night with yet another." He was speaking to the other Council members, not specifically William as he continued. "We will remain courteous with our questions, and no accusations will be made." After this he paused, looking at each the other Council member before turning his attention back to Hendrix.

"As we understood it, as of yesterday, you and a team of hunters assigned by Councilmen Jack, were to travel to New York and assist the god Hypnos and the god Thanatos in retrieving the goddess Pasithea from where she was being held. From what we were informed, via visions provided to your aide, was that this mission would be quick, quiet and would have low if not zero human casualties." He cleared his throat, before continuing. "As it stands, an entire building has been destroyed in New York, resulting in the deaths of over four hundred humans, neither of the gods you assisted have returned to further assist our colony and now a third god has appeared and threatened our lives. We ask, Councilmen Hendrix, to please explain where you and your team were lead astray.

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie remained aside Anna and Maxwell, though the two had visibly moved themselves further from her side, she certainly could not blame them for distancing themselves. It was human nature to save themselves. She listened to the Council speak slowly, the mans voice was droning and hard to focus on, but she grimaced through it, and when he finally made his statement, the knowledge that he wanted, she had to bite her lip to keep form speaking. She was well aware this was not her place to speak, and that most of the Council would be enraged for her addressing them.

She inhaled slowly, then exhaled; but knew if there was to be blame, she wouldn't let William go down for it. It had been her failure to understand the vision Hypnos sent her, and her failure to get him out of the building in time, not his.

Hypnos lounged within his home in Erebos tending to his wife as he gathered power from the sleeping mortals on one half of the world. He didn't have his full power back by any means, he was realistically at about half strength, but it was enough to keep him stable in the day time for while. After all he was concerned as to why his connection with Mackenzie was so suppressed. He didn't like not being able to check her thoughts. He knew that she didn't like gods as it was. Perhaps she was finally doing something with that anger... Hypnos gave a gentle kiss to Pasithea before leaving Erebos for Vitae. Hypnos appeared just outside of the house that she had been using. He couldn't sense her that well anymore so he would have to go looking the old fashioned way.

"That's the difference between them and me. I didn't choose to be a wolf." Were the only words spoken before Emile had left.

And just like that he was alone. Chase walked quickly to the vehicle, swiping the pants off the hood before climbing inside and just sitting there staring out the windshield. Adjusting to everything that had just happened, he'd been at the mercy of an alpha werewolf and his pack and been allowed to leave. Not only that but given permission to return to hunt on what he assumed was their territory, and an invitation to join them that still stood despite what he'd said. Not that he was coming back here even to hunt though, that was inviting disaster.

The pack was large, and from what Emile said had a number of once hunters. The fact that he was willing to allow Chase to know this information and leave was beyond puzzling. Maybe Emile felt no fear of the thought of Chase returning with a retinue of hunters to hunt them down, or maybe the Alpha was playing some game. With a shake of his head Chase sent Joe a quick text letting him know he was on his way back, then reached into the passenger seat for his shirt and pulled it on before starting the car and driving back towards the road. It would take a while to get there. And in that time he had some thinking to do.

upload_2017-5-7_3-56-46-jpeg.308457

William sat quietly as the Councillor spoke, patiently waiting his turn. Though his posture and features suggested a calm composure, his mind was anything but calm. Images of the devastation that was wreaked in New York -- what little of it he saw in his "altered" state -- flashed across his eyes all over again. Upon realizing that the man had finished addressing him, Will formulated his reply, forcing the distractions from his head. When he spoke, his tone was measured, almost clipped -- delivered like one of the military briefings that he had once been so used to.

"As you all know," he began, looking at the arrayed Councillors, "Hypnos and Thanatos left us little choice in taking on the mission. Time was of the essence. After gaining entry, I led a team into the building's lower levels to deface wards which served to prevent the entry of divine beings into the structure. We hoped that this would enable us to reach Pasithea, bringing her out beyond a second set of wards, at which point the angel Alaric would teleport all of us to safety."

He paused, his face taking on a grim set. Will looked at each of the Councillors before returning his gaze to the one who had asked the question. "Councillor, you asked where we were led astray. It was the moment we trusted gods to uphold their part in the plan, even one so simple as mere patience. The moment those wards were lowered, Hypnos and his brother went rogue. Hypnos used an enchanted horn to drive those inside the building insane, homicidal. Innocent, guilty, it didn't matter -- they slaughtered each other all the same. Hypnos entered the building during the chaos and claimed his wife... at which point Thanatos brought the building down. He reaped every soul there without a second thought," Will finished with a sneer.

Hendrix drummed his fingers against the tabletop, his gaze flicking to Mackenzie as he made eye contact with her. "We had no warning, no way to stop them. My team barely made it out in time. I..." his voice trailed off as he cleared his throat. He still remembered the feeling of his hands around her throat. His hand clenched involuntarily into a fist at the memory as his eyes lowered. Will spoke up again, "I felt the effect of Hypnos' song firsthand. I was a danger to myself and those around me. If it wasn't for our Oracle and Alaric, even more would have died. We went into that mission with the intent to do right by Hypnos and he and his brother played us like expendable pawns... along with everyone in that building." He knew Mackenzie blamed herself for what happened, regardless of his efforts to convince her otherwise. He didn't need to let the Council get the same idea, or else she'd end up the subject of another witch hunt.

William sighed deeply. "If you believe we made a misstep, I'll gladly submit myself to your judgement. I led that team, I called the shots. I..." he shrugged. "I trusted Hypnos." He finally stopped, taking a deep breath as he looked down at the table, awaiting the Council's judgement. He couldn't bring himself to meet Mackenzie's gaze again.

Daniella nodded at Bart and noticed his stare at her. She wasn't trying to be rude or anything she just wanted to settle down like her as told what will happpen. She nodded at his response, trying to ignore the stare. He said he at some other duties to do and that the mess hall is always open for something tot grab to eat. She waved goodbye to him and said "Thanks". She walked back toward her family and says "Well all we mostly have to do now is wait but he did offer some food to eat at the mess hall?". Jackson saw his eyes light up and says "Oh shit food? Okay we're going". Jackson grabbed my hand as we started dragging her towards the mess hall just to get some food. 'Why does Jackson have to drag me places', she asks herself everyday when it comes to food with Jackson.

The council listened as William recounted the events that occurred the day prior, in his own words. Naturally they had each come to their own varying conclusions; some blamed him and the hunters in his group, whilst others held the gods accountable. For the most part while he spoke they would hold their opinions to themselves, even if they failed to keep it from their expressions. Occasionally as he spoke, one would speak quietly to another next to them, or write something on their paper or note pad in front of them, likely a question that came to mind.

Many nodded as he dictated the original plan to key, all agreeing that had been the information they had been informed from Brendan, when he reported to them about the impending mission. Though they listened intently as he described the actual events as they transpired. Many looked horrified by what he told them, how he described the events that occurred inside the building, and those that once held expressions of disapproval changed, to that of shock, then pity. None had been aware that Will had been affected by Hypno’s horn.

Once he was done speaking there was a long silence as the many gathered their thoughts, most choosing to forgo their initial questions. The Elder stood once more, clearing his throat before speaking, carefully. “Thank you, Councilmen Hendrix, for your honesty today, I only have one question: You spoke of the Oracle and the Angel helping to prevent the horns effects from further destruction, however the Oracle, Dayne, is almost entirely insane and has been sequestered to his living quarters for his, and the colonies safety. I’d like to know how he helped with this mission.”

Mackenzie remained still and silent throughout William’s speech. She could hear the pain and guilt in his voice, and wanted nothing more than to comfort him; tell him once again it was not him and not his fault. She thought nothing of his mention of her assistance, beyond that she knew she could –should, have been better; been prevalent beyond the mess that she had been.

Eyes widened as the Elder questioned his mentioning of the Oracle; she had not told anyone what she was, not officially, beyond William. She stiffened, visibly, panicked for a second, uncertain how to move forward. She did not want or need the Council to know what she was; she hated even being in their presence and was truly only here for Will. She was shocked then she heard Brendan speak.

Brendan cleared his throat, giving the Elder a simple smile. “That was my error.” He said carefully. “With all of the fluster and chaos from yesterday, I neglected to inform you all that I was in speaking with Dayne, and when the boy had his moments of clarity I was able to relay this information to William and his team.” He gave an apologetic hand gesture, and a guilty smile. “I suggest we excuse Councilmen Hendrix and his aide from the remainder of this meeting, I don’t believe that either of their presence is required for the remainder of our meeting.” He paused and looked over the rest of the council, once they all agreed unanimously he turned to Will with a gently smile.

Chase sat in the parked Toyota within Vitae's walls and had been for ten minutes, right hand gripping tightly around the steering wheel while lost in his own little world of thought. The man still hadn't completely calmed down from the encounter despite the time spent traveling back to the colony, but mainly he was torn on what to do next. Joe would have a fit if Chase told him any of what happened so that was out of the question, Elijah was a possibility but what good would really come of saying anything? The only true information he'd gotten was the name of an alpha, that he was from oversea's most likely, a general number count on a single pack in the alliance, and an area that was claimed by said pack. The red-head had mentioned telling William but he was pretty sure that never went down, and after Will's experience with Pan and the wolves it was probably better that it didn't. Though Will would have been the better choice to relay information to and through considering his council member status.

All information that wouldn't just be taken without questions if they informed anyone else and that put him at risk. Even more obnoxious was the fact that he could smell Emile's scent in the truck, likely from when the man was nosy and grabbed the pairs of pants. There was some mumbling before he opened the door and stepped out, sliding on his socks and shoes, something he hadn't gotten the chance to do earlier when hew as trying to get as far away from the forest as possible. And this time he locked the vehicle before walking away.

Sibéal , a Völva and Shieldmaiden by title. Yet, despite having spent a lot of time in Vitae she'd suddenly gone missing for a bit, whether it was a few hours, a few days, or a few months or years. Whatever it was, she had suddenly returned through the same entrance that she had left through. Her tent.
A portal of sore that was a gateway between her home in Sweden, her home in Ireland, and her 'home' in the states.
Stepping outside into the coolness that was VItae's current weather. And quietly she left her home that was warded down tooth and nail. and began to quietly roam the streets.

Hypnos had been through the house with no luck. Even went by the clinic to check in on Solomon, and still there wasn't any sign of Mackenzie. Though Solomon's appearance in the Colony at this stage in the game was... troubling there wasn't much he could do about it. The knowledge he had in his head was his by birthright, and as much as he would love to bleach the man's mind clean of such matters his hands were tied. Hypnos would just have to find Solace in the fact that no Solomon has ever misused their knowledge. The deity hoped that would be enough. "Well if she wasn't in the Clinic or the house where would she be?" Hypnos muttered to his incorporeal self as he searched. Then an idea came to him. If he couldn't find Mackenzie he could at least find her other half. Sure enough as soon as Hypnos began searching for William he found him. Minds filled with grief and guilt were quite easy to hone in on for Hypnos. Though he didn't think about it much it was due to his role as a healer of the mind.

Hypnos flew into the command tent just in time to catch the tail end of William... testimony. While none of it was false the words still stung a bit. However the pain was quickly replaced with anger. He had been acting that way for far more than just retrieving his wife, though he wouldn't lie it was a major reason.
As William concluded his testimony Hypnos decided to "appear" before the men and women within the tent. " My ears were burning, was someone talking about me?" Hypnos asked in a sarcastic manner as he gave a quick glance to William before turning back to the council. His hands resting on an ornate cane.
" I'm guessing you all want to speak to me? You know you could just call right?"

William's heart nearly skipped a beat when the Councillor asked their question. He resisted the initial instinctual urge to snap his gaze to Mackenzie, knowing that it would only create more suspicion. He hadn't been aware of just how few people knew about her status as an Oracle and had blundered into an unwitting betrayal of her trust while delivering an account that was supposed to vindicate her. The only thing that stopped him from mentally berating himself on the spot was the rapid turning of gears in his head as he considered some sort of backpedal to cover his indiscretion.

His lifeline came from the most unlikely of places, as fate would have it.

“That was my error,” Brendan remarked in his usual calm tenor, hardly missing a beat before delivering a story -- completely false -- to the Council about Dayne's involvement in the mission. Will's eyes had lifted from the table as he watched the elder man speak, barely keeping the look of shocked albeit relieved surprise from his features. When he suggested William and Mackenzie be dismissed, Will caught sight of the smile and returned one of his own, along with a thankful nod. He would owe him one after this, no doubt.

Will stood up from his chair. "Thank you for your time," he remarked politely to the Council before turning to leave. He didn't make it far before Hypnos made his own grand entrance. Will looked him the god in the eye, but the cold glare had none of the heat and anger he expected. Just a look of vague disappointment and patent distrust. Without any further acknowledgement, Hendrix gestured to Mackenzie to follow him out before stepping out of the tent.

As soon as she left, he would pull her -- gently -- away from the entrance, out of sight and hearing from those inside. "I'm so sorry. I almost outed you in there. I..." his voice, filled with regret, trailed off as his eyes fell to the ground.

Mackenzie certainly did not need to be told a second time she had been dismissed, and was hot on William's heels as he exited the tent. She hadn't the slightest idea why Brendan had covered for Will, or if the man knew the truth about what he had covered, but she didn't care. Her worries of being locked in the tent of hours on end answering questions she didn't have answers to were gone. She frowned slightly as Will dragged her off to the side, watching his expression change and his eyes down cast.

"I'm so sorry. I almost outed you in there. I..."

A smirk came to her lips and she stepped into him, arms slipping around his waist, she rested her chin against his chest as her dark eyes peered up at him. "It's been a very, very long couple of days." She said quietly, she was certainly not upset with what had occurred; even if Brendan hadn't covered for her, she wouldn't be angry with him. "Let's go home, get something to eat, and just relax. Okay?" She was aware of Hypnos's presence in the tent behind them, and despite having a laundry list of things to hash out with her god, the thought of spending time with Will alone sounded far more rewarding.

The council jumped at the sudden appearance of Hypnos. Eyes widened and some glanced to one another and spoke in hushed tones, after a moment the Elder rose, offering Hypnos' Williams now abandoned chair. "If you are submitting yourself to questioning by the Council, by all means, please sit." They would certainly not miss the opportunity to question the god; the lest violent god thus far, if he was going to willingly sit there.

Brendan had watched Will and Mackenzie leave, he was aware of what exactly Mackenzie had become. How, he wasn't entirely sure, but after handling Dayne to the clinic and witnessing the boy's visions he knew by what Bruce and Aiden had reported what she had become. Of course the men had witnessed her 'seizures' while in New York; it certainly had been obvious she had been ill, but neither had known what the ailment had actually been.

While she traveled the streets of Vitae she could still feel the cold, icy stares that the other hunters gave her. She didn't belong here. Even if no one except two people in Vitae knew what she was it was safe to assume people could also assume. Though, while they had no solid proof, she could tell they didn't trust her and would sooner leave her for dead than come back and save her in a dire crisis. But that was fine, she couldn't blame them. It was cruel that they'd do that, after all, just because she was a powerful witch, trained by Odin himself, Hostess of the Celtic and Norse Gods, it didn't make her any less... Human... All it took was a single bullet to the heart and her not having a resurrection spell active and she'd drop dead and the life and everything she'd ever come to known and worked for would be stripped from her until she was either taken to her afterlife or reborn in the body of a newborn infant clueless and innocent to the world, yet doomed to the same fate. Life was cruel, and these hunters could be just as so, but, it is the ways of the strands of fate that weave our path... The only thing she could do at the moment was either run and never stop, or... Go to the local bar and drink herself into an oblivious state.

Hypnos smiled at the council and thanked the Elder who offered the chair before taking a seat. The deity kept his cane in his lap and looked at each Elder for a moment. " I guess you could say I'm submitting myself to questioning. All I want you and by extension the Colony is to understand why it is my brother and I did what we did in New York. So here it is.... quite possibly the rarest sight on Earth, a god explaining himself to mortals. Zeus should be rolling in his grave right about now." Hypnos said with a laugh. " Please by all means ask away."

After what felt like a good few hours of resting Solomon awoke to find the horrible constant pain of breathing had subsided. That nap he took had probably been the best one he had taken in his entire life! As Solomon lie there smiling to himself about his nap he could sense the faintest traces of a divine presence. After feeling the presence out for a good few minutes Solomon figured out it was the same one who had that powerful barrier encircling the perimeter of the Colony. Though why such a god would take an interest in him he could only speculate. It was obvious the wards he had now weren't going to cut it. Some research was in order, but first... food! God was Solomon hungry! The man carefully began removing all the sensors and whatnot that had been attached to him. He needed real food. Not hospital food, and especially not from a hospital like this!
