Chase Keaton & Joe Keaton

Chase locked eyes with Joe for a moment as the older man looked to him advice, considering he'd only just arrived on the scene there was a lack of information. Chase huffed before easing closer, knowing that if she tried something Joe would fire. The naked man reached into her pocket and fished out the cell before taking a step back out of range. "Tell you what," Joe started as Chase looked at it plainly before lowering his arm to his side with no pocket to put it in that was the best he had. "Your story checks out and we will return it to you later at the colony, maybe tomorrow. Don't worry he can track you easy enough. If you're lying I suggest not going back to the colony or you'll have a lot more than the two of us to worry about."

Joe gave a nod towards Chase before lowering the weapon and back off a little, however he gripped the weapon tightly and hadn't lowered it all the way as a precaution. Chase didn't like it, not one bit, but the look his father gave him told him not to argue...so he didn't. Joe had given her the go ahead to leave and Chase waited as she still blocked the exit to the building.

William gave a Mackenzie a look of mock disappointment at the correction. Eli simply pulled a chair out for himself, shaking his head. "I wouldn't waste your time with them, Mackenzie. There's no getting through to the truly ignorant," he said, his somber tone belied by the lightheartedness beneath the comment. He leaned forward to get a whiff of the meal Ashley had placed in the center of the table. "If it tastes as good as it smells, you can call it whatever you like."

Hendrix quickly washed his hands at the sink and sat down at the table, glancing between Mackenzie and Ash. The atmosphere between the two was decidedly less hostile than the one he'd left. That was a relief. "See how quick they are to lose their convictions, Ash?" he smirked, gesturing to Elijah who was still staring obliviously at the food in the center of the table.

Mackenzie couldn't help but laugh, first at Williams playful reaction, then at Eli turning sides.  It felt right, having these two with her and Ash, not something she'd experienced before; Ashley was always quick to make friends and allies, but Mac had great difficulty interacting with people, hunters included.  Something to do with these two made her feel at ease, maybe there was something to this colony business?

Ashley would start serving out portions of the hash on each plate, leaving Eli for last.  She'd hold his meal, atop the spatula just hovering over his plate, watching him intently.  "Call it by it's right name."  This was more to bother Mackenzie than it was Eli, but she was satisfied that it would annoy both parties at the table.  She could already see Mac's annoyance, just by having done this; she knew how much Mac loved being right.

Alex huffed, but did nothing as she was shooed out. "Fine. But if you threaten any of my friends, I will find you and it won't be pretty." With that she stalked off to find a stream to clean up in. Once she found one, she set to work getting the blood off her and out of her clothes. When she was done, she wrung her clothes out and sprinted off towards her car.

Alex's contact list was a collection of names with no customized pictures. Blaze, Spider, Kit Kat, Sir Wallice, BloodFist, Grace, and Lucifer were the only contacts that they could call without unlocking her phone. It was only a matter of which one they would call.

Chase Keaton & Joe Keaton

Chase stepped out of the cabin to stand by his father as the vampire left, and once she was out of sight he relaxed his tense body. Joe reached out to help support him, throwing an arm around his waist. "What if she's lying?" Chase asked gruffly as the two started heading back towards treeline, Chase hoping his father had driven the truck further into the woods or it was going to be a long walk. "Then that's a chance I decided to take. But we got rid of her for now, and I could tell you were in no condition to fight her if I missed. We cross that bridge when we come to it." Joe was right, and Chase knew it. His dislike for Vampires was something they both knew. "That GPS came in handy huh?" Chase asked almost like small talk as they trudged through the woods. "I saved your ass didn't I?" Both grew grins on their faces.

"So you want to tell me what beat the hell out of you? Both you and the girl were covered in blood but the difference was noticeable." Chase could have shrugged at the older mans question if not for the fact that it would hurt like hell. "Hey, he was bigger than me." Joe simply shook his head with a snort, "That's never been a problem before." The two kept moving at an even pace. "If it's a person that's bigger than me, no problem. If a werewolf is bigger than me...well...even playing field and all that, besides he wasn't alone."

It took nearly 45 minutes to reach the vehicle which had indeed been driven closer thankfully. Chase got himself cleaned up and given a minor patch job by Joe before slipping his clothes back on, and once they were both sitting inside there was a pause. "We can't go back yet, not until I heal enough to hide the major wounds." Chase let out a sigh as he declined his seat some to get comfortable, "Can't stay in the woods with the vamp and the wolf either though." If anyone noticed his quicker healing it wouldn't look good, they both knew that. Knew that even though he should get looked at, they couldn't risk it at a place where they hoped to live. Stopping at a hospital for a patch up before ditching out of town was one thing, but the medical staff at the colony would notice such changes if seen too soon in a matter of days.

"Wasn't a complete wasted trip." Chase said with his eyes closed, wincing as he shuffled in his seat. "We know it's not a single pack but multiple." It was almost like the air became stale inside the vehicle with the silence. "An alliance of packs." Joe replied before starting the truck up and driving carefully out of the forest. The least they could do was park closer to Vitae where it was safer.

As soon as Alex was at her car, she changed back into her hoodie and jeans. She sighed as the familiar weight settled on her shoulders. She pulled her combat boots on, sliding a silver dagger into its case between the side of the boot and her leg. She quickly and expertly assembled a new hex-bag, making it considerably harder to track her by any supernatural means. She pulled outa backup phone and slipped it into her pocket. She then curled up in the passenger seat and fell asleep.

Eli looked up at the spatula with saucer-like eyes. His eyes flitted from Ash to William. Hendrix was watching him with a smug grin, happily digging into the meal before nodding his head in a display of exaggerated satisfaction. Finally, Davenport looked to Mack. With a sigh of resignation, he relented. "Fine. 'Hash', you uncultured heathen," he remarked with a smile of his own emerging.

Will chuckled from across the table. It felt good; he hadn't had the opportunity for something as simple and carefree as a genuine laugh in... years. Sitting here, having dinner with people he trusted... he'd almost forgotten what it was like. His gaze drifted to Mackenzie. He was happy to see that her mood had improved, but he couldn't shake thoughts of what she had said earlier to Hypnos... was she still going to take that dream at the end of all of this? It seemed like a bizarre thing for him to worry about; with dozens of lives in his hands and the Colony's defense being his responsibility, what did Mackenzie's choice have to do with him? She was an adult and he'd already secured her help in the meantime.

So why was it gnawing at the back of his mind?

"Thank you."  Ashley would reply to Eli with an air of arrogance, she'd finally deliver the promised meal with a satisfied smirk on her lips.  The interaction would only earn a growl from Mac as she muttered. "You're evil." but it certainly did not stop her from eating her own meal, and clearly enjoying it.

After a few mouthfuls Mac would sit back in her chair, surprised as how hungry she'd been, but with everyone in one place, she figured this was as good a time as any.  "I've brought our sidekicks up to speed, Will."  She'd mention, almost casually, taking a sip of water from the glass on the table.  "Knowing Franklin he'll be here by tomorrow night."  With it just being the four of them in the quiet house she felt a little more comfortable speaking about it.  "That reminds me,"  She'd set the glass back down the table, "Could I ask one of the two of you to help me out tomorrow?  I've ordered parts for my baby and probably shouldn't be driving.... or lifting things right now."

Ashley would frown, turning her attention to Mac, "Uh, what am I chopped liver?"

At this Mac would blink and state rather matter of factly.  "What was the last thing I ordered?"

Ashley would go pale, and answer quietly.  "A back window..."

"And what happened to it when we went to pick it up?"  Mackenzie was getting some satisfaction from Ashley's reaction.

"I dropped it..."  Ashley had looked away now, at her plate rather sheepishly.

"And?"

Now Ashley sighed, "Alright fine, and I ripped the bumper off of Baby pulling out of the lot.  I won't help."

William and Elijah watched the exchange between Mackenzie and Ashley with raised eyebrows. When the latter admitted defeat, the two quickly averted their gaze. Elijah drummed his fork against the plate idly, prompting Will to clear his throat before speaking up. "I have some Council business to take care of tomorrow morning, but after that I should be free for a couple of hours. That is... if you're willing to ride with me after what happened with your baby," he remarked with a wry smile. Part of him knew it was probably a bad idea prodding the bull, but he couldn't resist. Mackenzie "reading in" the two of them had taken a considerable burden off his shoulders. "If not, I'm sure Eli would be more than willing to help you out," he added, glancing over at the younger man who had been doing his best to avoid being noticed as he ate.

Now Elijah sighed, swallowing his current mouthful of food before looking up.  "Oh, thanks. Make her angry and then throw me into the mix, will you."

Mackenzie would give William a sly smile, "Thanks, I don't plan on bleeding out inside of it this time."  She'd remark, returning to take a bit of her meal, finishing she'd add. "As long as you don't intend on killing anything else inside of her either."  She noted Ashley's smirk when William had brought up the sore subject, but then laughed hearing Eli's back peddle.  Clearly the man had been avoiding Mackenzie's request, but now that he'd openly admitted it, he was fair game.

"Don't worry Eli, I didn't think you'd volunteer anyways, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't know the difference between a break pad and rotary cuff, at least Ashley can do that."

Elijah frowned, opening his mouth to protest before slowly shutting it. The tension drained from his muscles as he slumped in his chair, clearly defeated. Hendrix watched the sight with a look that combined amusement and surprise in equal parts. He would have expected a heated retort. "It's all right," Eli said finally. "I understand that the two of you don't want a third wheel."

Will froze mid-bite, lowering his fork to the plate before shooting an icy glare at Elijah, who feigned ignorance as he happily continued his meal.

Dayne Matthews

Daynes next task was to bring an inventory list to one of the higher ups, the list was items that were badly needed for the clinic to remain usable.

He reviewed the list as he made his way back from the clinic.

He decided since it was not declared priority, he would get something to eat in the hall first.

Walking in to get some food, he was happy enough with himself that his appetite was going back

to normal,  especially after spending the last few weeks going practically hungry.

Digging in, he devoured the food while reviewing the lists to make sure nothing was missed in the

inventory just in case.

Mackenzie choked at Eli's sarcastic comment, having been mid-sip his words had caught her off guard and caused her to inhale instead of swallow the water.  Hand raised, she'd cough, setting the glass down and excusing herself from the table, anything to get away from the awkward moment, but it hadn't stopped the rosy flush from rising to her cheeks. The hell Eli.  Though she had no clue it had been directed to anyone but her, she had been the one teasing him.

Despite Mac's quick escape Ashley had not missed the other woman's embarrassment, nor did she miss Williams sudden silence and glare.  She'd keep any further thoughts to herself, head bowed she'd eat quietly, not wanted to be the next in the cross hairs.

Eli watched Mackenzie stand up and leave the table with a mix of triumph and surprise. All fun and games aside, he hadn't meant for his remark to have that much of an effect. Just as he began to ponder the implications, he caught sight of William's glare once again. Suddenly he felt like a man in front of a firing squad... without a blindfold in sight.

Later, William mouthed to him. Somehow the promise was no less threatening for its silent delivery.

Clearing his throat and shifting uncomfortably, Elijah instead stiffly turned to Ashley. "Thank you, Ash. Well done on the bu--" he paused. "Hash. It was delicious. I should be going now. I have things to take care of... in the back." With that, he shot up from his seat, quickly cleaning up his empty plate before darting into the hallway.

Will simply shook his head and turned to Ashley when he left. "Sorry."

Ashley had witness the events transpire around her with a great deal of bemusement, though she did her best to not allow it to reflect visibly.  She'd seen Mackenzie flirt with men and women in the past, but she'd never see her become derailed by comments like this.  It was... interesting to watch, a curious change in her partners behavior.  She would offer Eli an appreciative nod to his thanks, not trusting her voice for the moment, choosing to remain focused on her now empty plate.  Only after he left William spoke to her and she dared to meet his gaze.  "It's alright."  She'd offer, but the smile remained painted on her lips.  "I don't know what, but you've done something to Mac."  She'd set her cutlery down, and quickly add. "Something good."

Meanwhile Mac was hiding somewhere between the threshold of the kitchen and living room, she'd heard Eli leaving the table and didn't want to risk being seen, and she was doing a damned fine job of keeping out of sight.  She hadn't been paying attention to the continued conversation at the kitchen table too focused on cursing herself for reacting the way she had.  Once she hear Eli disappear into his room she'd sneak into her own, deciding time away form people was needed, she was searching out clean clothing, intent on grabbing a shower.

William frowned at Ashley's comment, though the reaction came more from surprise than anger or disappointment. He wanted to speak up, to ask what she'd meant by the comment, but found himself unable to do say a word. Instead, he simply stared meekly down at his mostly clean plate. He wanted to deny the effect -- whatever it was -- was mutual, but as his eyes drifted upward to linger on the hallway, he knew there'd be no lying to the proverbial man in the mirror this time. Standing up, he grabbed his plate and silverware. "Thanks for dinner," he said quietly, marching over to wash up at the sink.

Ashley was beginning to believe she had a permanent case of 'foot in mouth' disease, she'd upset, or at the very least, annoyed William with her comment about Mackenzie.  She just wasn't exactly sure how.  "Anytime."  She'd respond to his thanks and would wait until he was gone from the table before she started clearing the other plates left behind.

Mackenzie wasn't being selective of what she was choosing, garbing a pair of Ashley university cotton pants and the largest t-shirt she owned, she didn't want anything that might rub against her sutures.  Once more she was sneaking down the hall, attempting to avoid contact with anyone.

William left the kitchen, walking down the corridor on the way to the bedroom with his head down. He wasn't sure what revenge he wanted to exact on Elijah yet for his careless comment, though he had a few ideas. Maybe he'd give it some time, let--

Hendrix looked up in surprise as he sensed a presence in front of him, nearly bumping into them. He desperately hoped it was Elijah, both for the chance to pay him back and to avoid the inevitable awkwardness of meeting Mack. No such luck. Will locked eyes with her, frozen like a deer in the headlights. Noticing the clothes in her arms, a light flickered in his mind and snapped him out of it. William quickly stepped aside. "Oh, sorry," he said quietly, standing aside to allow Mackenzie to pass.

Mackenzie was doing her damnedest to avoid people, or at least one person in particular, still trying to figure out why Eli's comment had affected her so when of course she'd nearly run into the man directly.  They had both stopped, and for a time William was just ... staring at her.  It was confusing and off-putting mostly because she was so flipping awkward she just didn't know what to say?  Never had she cared what someone else thought of her, but when Will had told off and threatened a god, on her behalf, she'd been mortified, only because her decision had disappointed him.  He had come to her for help with the Pack and keeping the Colony alive though the next lunar cycle and any one else she would have given a hard no.  But him?  She'd said yes and it still confused. her.  More so that she'd even called the man she'd vowed never to speak to again, for William, to help him.

The last forty-eight hours had been draining, exhausting and to the edge of overwhelming.  And then he was apologizing again, once more she felt awkward, people normally changed topics, right?  When things became awkward?  "We should talk... later."  She'd very nearly blurt out, rather randomly.  "About Franklin, and the Council."  She nearly added, and you. She knew she needed to warn William about what to expect with their future guest and potential business partner.

Mackenzie's initial statement caused William to cock his head in confusion, his mind jumping to conclusions. Was she pissed at Elijah? At him? Her added clarification brought no small amount of relief. The awkwardness and apprehension he felt evaporated at the thought of talking about practical concerns, putting the tension aside. Regaining his composure, Will nodded briskly. "Good idea. By the sounds of things I'll need to have some kind of game plan to run by Diffey and the others tomorrow. When did you have in mind?"

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie was relieved the topic switch was enough to make William stop staring awkwardly, it didn't put her at easy, but it was getting better.  "I'm just going to clean up a bit, maybe afterwards?  Ashley said she was going to ice my back, so, that would be as good a time as any."  She was side stepping towards the bathroom once more, hoping her suggestion was satisfactory and she could return to her original plan of hiding for just a little while.

William nodded. "Sure thing," he said, deciding to beat a hasty retreat to the bedroom. He entered, beginning to close the door behind himself when the wind was nearly knocked from his lungs. He grunted, falling backwards against the drywall with a loud thud. Elijah was inches away, a smirk on his face as he pinned Will's arms against his torso.

"What the hell?!" Will exclaimed.

"You said later," the younger man remarked. "It's later. You whiffed on our last sparring session and I have a feeling you've got some stress to work out."

"Eli, I'm really not in the mood for this shit right now," Hendrix's voice was close to a growl.

Elijah scoffed. "You and I both know that's not true. You're pissed, and right now you'd love nothing more than the chance to swing away."

Will sighed. "Fair enough." With a burst of power, one arm broke free of Elijah's grip. His hand shot up to wrap around Eli's wrist, twisting his hand until Elijah's palm was turned around to face himself. Applying torque on the wrist, he forced Eli to back away before walking him backwards toward the center of the room. With a grin, Eli countered by using his free hand to press the locked one down and forward, breaking free of the hold before hastily backpedaling. Both men instantly raised their fists and assumed a guard position. After a tense silence, Eli raised one finger. "Safety first."  Hendrix lowered his hands, watching as Elijah fetched a small gym bag from the corner of the room, opening it up and tossing two padded MMA gloves to Will, along with a mouth guard.

Hendrix shook his head in disbelief. "I can't believe you thought to grab that out of the truck. How long have you been planning this?" Davenport shrugged noncommittally.

Moments later, both men had their mouth guards in place and gloves strapped securely on. Approaching each other, fists raised once again, Hendrix scoffed. "You have a helluva way of apologizing."

Eli merely smirked before throwing a left jab.

Mackenzie would quickly break for the bathroom, not wanting to encounter any one else, she'd close and lock the door behind her quickly and was thankful for the quiet peace.  There were few times in her life when she felt at peace, or as close to it as she believed she would ever get, and a hot shower was one of them.  Mac never really had a home, after Borseti, she'd lived all her years from the car, certainly she and Ashley would stay at Drive-In Motels, but it just wasn't the same as a being in a real home.  She would stand under the hot water as long as she could tolerate it, quiet and peaceful, for once.

Ashley had washed and dried the dishes from dinner and put them away.  Satisfied the kitchen and nook were back in the order she'd found them she wandered to the bedroom to see if Mac was done hiding only to hear the shower running and now Mackenzie.  She recalled that she'd promised Mac to ice her back, and so she'd head out the front door towards the clinic in search of reusable ice packs most clinics kept as a basic inventory.

The "fight" didn't stay confined to the cramped bedroom for long. It began with Will narrowly backpedaling to avoid a high kick, slapping Elijah's foot away as it passed within inches of his face before scurrying out the still-open door into the hallway, fists up as Elijah followed him.

"What, are you planning on running to the Council for help, Sarge?" Elijah asked, his words muffled by the mouth guard as he approached.

"No need," Will remarked, throwing a right hook that Eli gracefully slipped before countering with a straight punch that thudded into Hendrix's sternum and sent him stumbling back toward the living room.

Mackenzie was finally starting to relax, feeling the world drift away when she could hear noise from outside the doorway.  She would frown and listen intently, it was likely one or both of the two men in the house just walking around, neither of them were particularly light footed, not like Ashley was but she heard the noise again and knew it distinctly; fighting.  She'd curse silently, stepping out of the tub as quietly as she could and drying off, she'd leave the water running to cover and noise she was about to make as she redressed.  So far as she was concerned the displeased hunters had returned, finally figured out who she was and William or Eli, or both, were defending her.  Fools.

Once dressed, boots slipped back on, hair soaked and dripping down her back, she'd slip the knife that was always stored within the right boot free of is sheath, a short silver blade.  She'd reverse the blade in her right hand, while the left slowly opened the bathroom door.  Seeing nothing at first, she'd glance down the hall to the front door; closed.  She'd frown then turn to step towards the living room and stopped in her tracks, seeing the two of them, wearing gloves and fighting with each other?
