I think @Mordecai or @welian mentioned this, but let's keep our complaints filed into our Sandbox board, and then we'll sent them in torrents at the staff - after they're well rested.
What's a sandbox board? Is it a metaphor? Agreed with the rest , especially the well rested part.

The Private Workshop subforum is also called the Sandbox, because it that used to be its thread prefix back when in-progress stuff was posted in Personal Discussion.

I see. I'm sure I'll remember what I'm wanting , so I shall put it on my dormant memory. Also thank you very much for the explanation.

Despite all the mixed emotions of comments I really like this new theme it feels unique compared to every other site out there. The colour is nice on the eyes and better yet it feels lightweight.

I have found an odd thing. The menu bar that follows you down the page, isn't following when my browser window is not maximized. There's a sort of in-between, max-vertical window that Windows 7 does, and the bar follows then, and it follows when the window is fully maximized, but not if it's just a little window.

I can't seem to replicate that.

The bar follows me no matter what.

Try clearing your cookies/cache, I may have patched it before.

*noms all cookies* No change. Maybe it's a funny Chrome thing? I rarely am in anything but maximized window, so it isn't much of a problem for me personally, though of course I can't speak for others. Would screenshots help at all?

Not sure.

I use chrome but I can't replicate it. I'll try again soon.

Consider me appreciative of anything that gives the people that run this site less headaches and more fun!

I'm wearing my sunglasses here at my computer desk, and I'm still grateful. Why? Because overall the improvements to RP Nation are just that - improvements. Some folks treat RP Nation like it's this MMORPG (like World of Warcraft, etc.) that they're paying a subscription for. And since they're paying customers, some of them feel that they are entitled to make demands of the developers of these games.

Not RP Nation. These folks are volunteers. That means while some of us are gaming away our free time, they are not - they are spending their time instead making RP Nation something more than it was. Last I heard, no big corporation had bought this site and started charging money for it. Heck, it's even ad-free! Best of all, there are a lot of quality, good-hearted, people who truly care about this place. I would like to think I am one of them.

Thank you, both to the staff and to the believers of RP Nation that support the staff, for caring about the human beings behind the screen. Without them, RP Nation would not be.

I just wish I knew how to help further the improvements. Now back to that gaming I can do in my free time. =)

Honor and fun (with sunglasses!),

Woah! I go to Seattle to do some things for a while and return to this! What happened to "take your time?" Heh.

@The Dark Wizard, can I be granted permission to use the 2.0 site for a bit so that I can continue to poke around and tell you the other little nuances that I notice? If you give me two days (I won't be on much tomorrow, but I have all Monday to work) to work on this I should have a few suggestions to make it more friendly to our natives. I'm not sure if I'm asking for too much or we are just already at a point where it is long gone, but if you guys are able (and willing. Can't forget willing) would I be allowed to do that?

Also, what's up with the little dot by the mail icon? I saw it and immediately wondered what PM I had to read.

Is there an option to change that Times New Roman font and also make it a bit less wide? I find it okay on my tablet but on my computer it's quite huge.

@welian, hey hun! You said you were taking a list of complaints. Wise idea.

Despite the complaints I've seen so far, none (I think) have touched mine. I think the theme and color are very nice. I don't mind the style very much at all. On top of that I am highly impressed by the community coming together to help bring something like this to the site. You guys are all very amazing.

What I do feel like is the site size shrunk a lot. I am unable to read small text without glasses(Not your problem). I think the basic % a webpage starts on is 125%. I bumped it up to 150% so I can read things at ease while Roleplay. However thing seems to have shrunk so much. So I am now bumped to 175%. Thing are now kinda chunky.

My second one was more silly and more of a suggestion. @Mitheral had mentioned it briefly. The logo is very very large. It eats up most the page and I do more scrolling to the content bellow it then I really think we should be doing. However the last layout design was like that too. I was not very fond of it. Wiz knew because I always told the staff that Staff-Chan scared me. :P

Thanks for your hard work guys! Thanks for taking the time to listen to some of the complaints too. :)

Too .... much ... blue and white

LOL, there's a reason why people's eyes are hurting. Colors toward the blue end of the visible spectrum will always be harder on the eyes, literally resulting in damage over time. (This is why people went away from those old blue CRT screens from back in my DBase II days.)

For those who like technical explanations:

At the back of our eyes are those things we call rods that respond to various frequencies of light. Blue literally causes a higher energy state in the chemical of the receptor. It takes longer for that chemical to return to its relaxed state. This is why blue light blinds us longer. It is why the military uses those red flashlights at night. Red returns to a relaxed state faster.

A friend in my biochem class back in the early 90's was studying for optometry and did his research presentation on this subject. For some reason that subject stuck in my mind.

Thanks for your feedback.

I've been having mixed results with sizes and text in general due to browsers all displaying it different. Believe it or not, the font on 3.0 is a few points larger then the last style. However it might just be the font type/style.

I'll look into improving it over the next few days and hopefully have something more concrete for you and the userbase in general since I know a couple of users have privately approached me already about the issue you brought up. Depending on the page I am, I tend to agree with your complaint.

The @Development Advisor group was fantastic and it was awesome to let them shape something so important for the site and help hunt down/quash bugs.

Let me know if you have any other concerns/issues with the style.

The wide-ness and the color are the two things that bother me, which has been said oodles of times. It was also a shock at first, which is why I especially didn't like it at first glance, because I didn't realize that this drastic of a change was looming. I have calmed down to it quickly.

I haven't noticed the text changes, size or otherwise, but my sight isn't all that bad either so I am not bothered by it as much. I still love the top bar following me down the page, I am happy that stayed. I like the newer liking system too, though I don't know how interconnected that is with the entire change.

I think it would look more visually appealing if, instead of all the buttons and everything being stretched out horizontally, there was a side bar, squishing things in tighter, but still allowing the same following-down-the-page effect. I have no idea the limitations of the software the site is currently using, however, so I don't know if it would be possible. Heck, I don't even know if people would want that.

Just my own two cents. Thank you guys who did this none-the-less. It is super awesome of you to strive for better and grander for the site. :)

It isn't too bad, but I personally preferred the last site layout. It just seemed.. cleaner. With this one, it gives me the impression that there is so much more text on the forum home page. I'm pretty sure it's just the colours tricking my eyes, though.

That being said, I'll probably get used to it quite quickly.

It feels like RPN for the visually impaired. It's large, and boring and boxy. Just has no appeal. I know that doesn't seem important, but part of what inspired me to join RPN was how welcome and warm the design was. This feels clinical and sharp and sad. Too simplistic, I guess. It's the little things, too... like the front page threads being all the same size... the ugly little 'person' icon for the profile, instead of our avatars... the flat baby blue and the off-grey background... the Times New Roman autofont...

I know needs for updates outweigh needs for aesthetics sometimes... but I really hope we can find a way to make the old look work. And find a replacement for the AD styler.

Unfortunately, there is really no way for the old look to work. It is absolutely broken and out-dated beyond repair. While it may not have looked it, D Wiz spent oodles of time in the back end trying to fix things constantly breaking because of how out-dated and unsupported it was. He did a great job piecing it all together, but in the end, it just couldn't be hobbled together, though he definitely tried (looking at you, 2.0). This update needed to happen because the site just wasn't functioning the way it ought to. That said, we will definitely take all of your complaints into consideration. Making changes does take a bit of time, so, I can't (and won't) promise things overnight. As Wiz has already mentioned, he is working on several other options for the styler, but they are not ready for public release yet. (:

Personally never had an issue with the old lay out performance wise. Even on an old computer that still runs windows XP the site worked perfectly fine. However the new style isn't bad I always used the light blue color pallet anyway so the colors aren't that much of change for me. I do miss the avatar being in place of the little buddy icon for profile but it's not a huge loss. I actually do Like the new lay out of the front page with how the categories are laid out for the work shop and such.

Where I think things could be improved is possibly replacing the orange color for something a bit more appealing and less jarring? Drawing colors off of the RPN logo you could use the darker teal that colors the RP in place of the orange. It would work much better into the color scheme, provide contrast and be be much more appealing. The Font of 2.0 was also really nice and a bit easier to read. Plus it added to the whole site having a more cohesive look. Things like the site text (buttons, post information and generally all the other text on the site) is a completely different style. That's something always always, personally, bugged me. If possible perhaps at least a similar default font so it's not so contrasting.

For people complaining, Theoretically if the theme messes with you that much you could try making your own, use one of those webpages modifiers or something.

Or alternatively, you could try to deal with issues the old themeing caused, and im sure wiz would love the help! Then you could make everyone happy, it'd be great! (<3.<3)

Then again, I don't know what I'm talking g about, at all.

No one is complaining... Dwiz asked for input... we're offering it. Just because we disagree with some of the design elements doesn't mean we aren't appreciative of the staff and all they do.
