News Style Update Electric Boogaloo

:5/5: I would like to thank those who helped with this update, and Dwiz, seeing as he put it in motion. It seems, so far, that I don't have to fight with the webpage anymore. It's much more efficient for mobile, and I love the blue, though the orange is a tad harsh.

I can actually load the website without refreshing sixty-two and a half times!

Dear god, as a glass user with horrible sight I feel like I'm in Tron, but, everything for the sake of roleplay, even if I have to use two glass eyeballs :3

Change font to Comic Sans

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)‎

Does the whatever site package you're supporting not support multiple style sheets like VB does?
It does.

Just not supporting various styles at the moment. I'll let you know when I have something ready.

[QUOTE="The Dark Wizard]So all the new features and stuff have to be coded for one style and then a broken style?
No thanks.

The previous outline worked out for most of us so it's broken for a few users. It's not like dramatic changes were included so most users would be fine with missing out some stuff in exchange for customization. If that doesn't work out use this one.

Give use the opition.

I'll make sure to tweak the orange a bit.

But I'm really happy for you and any one else this update helped, I know we were getting plagued by a lot of things and no matter of tape was going to fix it.]

I hope you can have a better experience on the site now :) .

Enjoy.

Got it. If anything for multiple styles, I'd just offer a variety of color combinations. That would be the closet to giving people back their color customization without giving up any of the changes.

Thanks DWiz and team for all your hard work. You know lots of people are going to complain because few among us like change, especially drama-prone roleplayers, especially internet habitués, especially internet roleplayers! However, I'm sure eventually they'll all come to realize you did this because you wanted to keep the site up and running for everyone, not because you're some evil villain out to steal their colors. ( ;) ) Keep up the good work!

P.S. - to those complaining about colors: I started using the addon Stylish (with Chrome) several months ago, to turn my RPNation purple-y. Stylish is still working just fine. I suggest looking into it, or (if you're code-unsavvy like me) asking one of the many, many nice people here how it works. Being a browser addon, it's stayed pretty much constant throughout the style updates, and only the buttons, top bar, and head-of-the-page graphic are unaffected by it, as far as I can tell.

The "New" bar on every unread post is orange and so is the "This thread is being watched by..." text.

The main forum page has orange headings for the different forums.

That type of blue would also be fantastic.

Unfortunately, the previous framework you were familiar with was broken for lots of users, not just a few. Also, I don't think it's fair to speak on behalf of "most users." This is a topic for future discussion; however, cutomisation is just not an option right now. As Wizard mentioned before, he is working on trying to figure out alternatives for customisation, but they are not ready yet.

Not many people use chrome though ._.

xD I don't know why anyone's complaining about the orange, I like it. It seems like a pretty color, and it's not over-saturated, so it doesn't burn your eyeballs. Then again, I'm relatively young.

I want to say it's in other browsers as well, but I really don't remember - it was a long time ago and I'm afraid I wasn't listening very well until they got to "my" browser.

That's a fair point. But providing opitions wouldn't hurt anyone.

You have the code for it already made and all.

Oh, is there any way that the size of the PM icon/list can be changed? It's neigh impossible for me to read the details of my PM lists as the font and list are so small. The grey text for the PM lists also blends in really closely with the whitish gray background for the PMs.

@The Dark Wizard

Just curious- are wider screens still supposed to have something more compact, or did you have to get rid of it?

I just wanna make sure it's doing what it's supposed to on mine :P

As an overlord, I approve of this new design, much snappier on mobile.

HOWEVER. There is one feature that is clearly missing, one that all the people in this thread are probably already asking about to the brim...

Why is there not a button to fill the screen with hearts and joy? Make people happy! It would be great!

My guess is that the previous framework's customization is only available on that framework/version and the server can only display or run one framework/version at a time to everyone. That doesn't rule out styles down the line for color customization and such, but getting older customization is impossible without reverting the entire server back to a previous version that would cause the bugs to appear again.

I'm sure I'll get used to the style eventually...

Doesn't mean I'll like it, but hey.

I get why it was done, and it's great for people who were having issues.

I'll just have to cut back on my time spent on here so I don't get headaches. cx

Do you have the hours to spend and the know how to make that possible?

The issue with the ad styler lies in the code. It was unstable for a measurable amount of users, and required loading in a lot of extra commands. The code is the exact reason Wiz nixed it. Yes, it sucks we can't customize "our" RPN, but there are no more resources at the moment to address it.
