Graded [Stonewall Town] (Caelia Barony) – Baroness, Take Flight!

1677894856304.png
Amanda Steelhaven

Amanda was pleased to hear the shepherd was just a new inhabitant and even more pleased to hear she had no issue dealing with the roaming wolves of the area. Moving to dismount Amanda would move to inspect the herd while standing aside the woman, horse reigns in hand. "Oh, what a fitting name! The way he took on our Golem friend here despite all odds, it certainly does bare a resemblance to those heroic deeds! Hmu Hmu!" [Area Knowledge F][Agriculture C]. Admiring the Ram, Amanda would bring a hand to her cheek while deep in thought, remaining silent for a few seconds before responding "Hmm, to my knowledge. I'm not aware of any such law or limit. Kirkwall does have a limit in place but that's more a community agreement than law... Perhaps Stonewall and Sootspire have similar agreements in place. I'd suggest you speak to the guards in the nearest village for advice. Right now that'd be Sootspire but keep heading down this path and you'll reach Stonewall... Oh actually!"

Turning on her heel Amanda raised her hand in the air and began to wave it toward Sherwood, her eyes locked onto him like a predator would its prey "Sherwood! Oi! Do you know what the hunting laws are like around these parts?". Unfortunately before Amanda could receive her answer or even get to her hidden agenda, a commotion began to stir. Ratili had taken it upon himself to discipline Ethel. Needless to say, it didn't seem to go all that well. A duel was issued, denied and words were exchanged between the Captain and Ratili. What a mess. At least the Golem seemed to take it well.

Alas even though the Captain saw it fit to mediate the situation and de-escalate it seemed Ratili had to have the last word in everything. Not only had the man gone above and beyond his position to encroach on the Captain, he had also seen it fit to off handily blame the Captain for Ethel's rude behaviour with that final comment. In but one short altercation he had marked both the Captain and Ethel's honour as guards... They hadn't even reached the first village yet! Sure Ethel might have gone to far but there was a time and a place for such words! Publically dishonouring guard escorts, pawning off assignments, what was next? With a sigh Amanda watched him grab something from his satchel and move toward herself and Janja, who Amanda immediately turned to with a hushed tone "Good luck...". If the man was willing to talk to officials in such a way how was he going to treat this poor shepherd?

Aria had succeffuly caught her dear friend although it wasn’t without some sacrifice. After catching her, the speed witch which the sword maiden had jumped upwards didnt match, and in fact it wasn’t enough. An unfortunate occurrance due to the distractions and poderings of her fragmented internal world. As they came tumbling down, and the land down bellow came closer and closer, Aria decided to take the brunt of the fall. This decidison wasn’t just a duty, it was also a love she had for her friend. Having Regula landing on her stomach made a horrible cracking sound as ribs fractured, then tumbing further down she’d hit her face on a rock as her knees and arms got continuously scraped. Her sword went flying before finally coming to a stop, all that she could feel was a warm feeling, and a very firhgtening difficulty breathing. Her hands came over her stomach, as her nose began to bleed. Aria would then wince, as the reality of her situation kicked in, her legs would twitch as nerves had certainly been severed and the operation of her legs wouldn’t sync as they usually did. The maiden would reach out towards Regula, hoping she was alright, but she couldn’t speak, it was impossible to do so through the shock of her injury.

Her concerns would be then remedied as she saw Regula spurr back to life, and cast a healing, it appeared to work, and in fact there was something painful about every fractured bit of her body moving back into place. Aria would grit her teeth, as she braced for the continued pain, then a lingering ache, like internal bruises would linger still. She did her best to get up, but then ultimately decided to just lay on the ground.

Aria would move over, closer to Regula as she placed a hand on her shoulder, “I.. i’m so sorry..” She said, “..you’re not entirely to blame, i.. well.. i suggested it might work as well.”

Her friend seemed to be lost in thought as she looked up at the sky, holding herself up with her elbow on the ground she noticed something about Regula. She seemed more mature, something within her had changed, she was rarely melancholy at least not in the way where she would re evaluate her life, her relationships and the impact of hte actions she’d made upoin thre world.

She began with Teuihua, to which she didnt have much to say, the construct didn’t seem like a spy, however it had crossed her mind before, yet, she trusted Ethel and that in her eyes was a good enough screening. Then again, she had considered Aria a ‘fiend’.

Then Amanda, to whom she recollected their earlier interaction, there was something about her she hadn’t quite been able to put into words, she was intelligent, and charming and witty in her ways, and just as Regula mentioned, she had alot of ambition, which reminded her of her own ambition. Perhaps it was the fact they were both commoners, that had them attempting to prove themselves from a whole lifetime of being told they wouldn’t get a chance to rise above their lowly status.

Then a new set of injuries or scars were opened when she began to doubt herself. Everything she said seemed to bring up so many images and scenes of their adventures together, “I understand you’re frustrated Regula, but you must also see the good things we’ve done. Yes, we’ve failed plenty during moments we should have succeeded. It would have brought us so much joy to have succeeded at even one of those tasks you mentioned. They weigh heavily on me as well. But..” She got up, her legs wobbling a little as she re calibrated her balance. “..i wouldn’t have it any other way. At least there was someone present in those places so as to make a difference for the better. Whether we failed, is meaningless, we did our best and no one could ask anymore of us.” She’d pull Regula up from her sitting postion, and hugged her, rubbing the back of her head gently. “I wouldn’t want you to give up on yourself, even after failing as much as we have, there are more on your side. We’re going to build the crowning jewel of Ryke that will some day rival in beauty and propserity the entire land.” Breaking the embrace she’d hold Regulas face in her hands, looking at her and smiling softly, “I wouldn’t want to miss it. So please, send me not from your side.”

“I believe the answer to your question about why so many have joined in on your vision would likely be because you offer something very precious and rare. It might look different to them, but not me, you offer justice, friendship and well, understanding.”
She sighed at her comments about Leo, how to help Regula understand that the situation was quite dangerous even being the daughter of Marcus, the destroyer of empires. Surely if anyone ever dared to try to foil his plans would be met with a disturous fate. Aria was sympathetic to Regula’s desires and her need to feel like she’s giving back however, “My brother, he takes great risks for me..” she stuttered, “..i’m.. well.. i’m just.. afraid.” She looked away, “..i’m afraid of losing you or Rosalia or anyone here. They’d surely be used in some way, kidnapped. I.. simply dont know how far such a tyrant could be willing to go.”

Leiana had been traveling down to this Barony she had received a letter from for quite a while. She knew her skills were going up in reputation if a woman like Regula had personally sought her out, as that was a mark of a good merchant. So she had started on this trek, and had finally gotten nearby. She saw the group out in front her, smiling as she placed two hands on her hips, waving one of them while she cupped one hand to her mouth, the last two hands holding her lamp. "Oh dear friends! Perhaps I might be able to join you all if you are seeking out this Regula woman as well?" She shouted out, running towards the group with a smile underneath her veil, hopping up in front of the nearest person.

Ezekiel Hayward

Hayward's eyes focussed on Retili for a bit, as the smaller Fae replied to him. At first, he wasn't quite sure how to take those words, but he could see the reason in them. “You're right, Ethel overstepped her boundaries.” He admitted, giving Ethel a stern look. “Please, forgive me for not teaching her to do better, although I must remind you that it was the Marshall that believed her presence would be of use. ” He didn't want to throw the Marshall under the bus, but he did believe her kindness, compassion and grace might've made her judge the prospect of Ethel's inclusion too kindly.

Then he turned to Teuihua. “I'd like to assure you that my distrust doesn't mean I'm not grateful for your aid to our barony. I'm sure Ethel hold no personal grudges against you either. It is merely in our professional duties as guards that we need to stay somewhat suspicious, not due to lacking in gratitude for your efforts in helping everyone out.” He was glad the construct seemed to understand as much, but still felt it'd be best to confirm it.

Most of what Teuihua would've heard about the Empire was talk about the war between the See and the Empire and people fearing it might end up involving Ryke at some point. Some Fae, like Saffron, were openly accusing the Empire of being a warmongering faction that deserved to be punished harshly. Some more moderate and diplomatic people, like the inn's owner Hestia or the self-proclaimed major Aldwin, would be careful to just name it an 'unfortunate happenstance' and tried not to pick any clear sides. A few were more inclined to think the Empire wasn't all that bad, other than perhaps the dubious usage of slavery.

As the others focussed on the sheep-girl and her flock, his attentions was drawn to those thighs the merchant that caught up to them. Her words instantly put him on guard as well as confused him. “To speak of the baroness in such a causal manner... I'd have assumed you were a close acquaintance of hers, if you didn't caller her 'woman' like that. What is your business with the baroness?” He said, as he was clearly not amused by the way she addressed Regula.

Janja

FiWAwX1.png

When Retilia observed Janja, he'd quickly get the sense that she was very confident in what she was doing as a shepherd, even after the latest mishap with her ram. She was also genuinely curious as to what their group was doing around here. Now that he was paying some more careful and deliberate attention to her, he could notice her skin had some scars on it. She likely hadn't been kidding when she said she'd fought of wolves before. None of her scars looked recent though, so she'd likely outmatched any wolf that dared face her as of late. Finally, it was clear she didn't have a lot of sheep with her, having a relatively small flock, but that didn't seem to bother her for some reason.

The sheep-girl was pleasantly surprised when her name-giving skills got compliment. “I know right!?! It's probably the best ram I've had in my entire career~” Clearly, complimenting her flock was the way to get her to like you. Amanda's Area Knowledge didn't help her learn anything new, but her knowledge of agriculture made her realise why this girl was so proud of her flock. These weren't bred for mass production of wool, meat or milk. These were bred to be sold off to others. It was a flock meant to be at the peak off sheep-hood, a quality breed that others would pay good gold to obtain for themselves.

Sherwood

Sherwoord, who'd only just got back from checking the surroundings after wanting to keep an eye on those thighs the newcomer, was shocked to hear his name being called out. He looked at Ezekiel in mild panic, even giving Ethel an almost pleading glance, but the two of them both decided to make him face this challenge alone. “It's... legal... just... don't overdo it.” He managed to stammer. He barely knew this girl, so talking to her was quite an achievement in its own right, even though he wished to stealth away with all his heart.

Upon hearing the reply, the sheep-girl laughed. “Ha, that's great. Looks like wolf-stew and wolf-jerky are back on the menu~” She sounded just a tad bit ominous in her eagerness.

She then turned to Retili, as she spotted him writing stuff down. “Say, I don't mean to pry, but eh... what are you writing down? Are you planning to buy some of my flock? I've got two great ewes I could part with, but they don't come cheap.” She said, not entirely sure what Retili was after.

Ethel

LEZxvL5.jpg

Ethel was feeling a bit down. The stern warnings and set-backs kept piling up. Even from her teacher, which hit the hardest. She was meant to suspect the iron golem, but also be nice to him? However, he also said something about showing his intentions were pure. “Thy stated that thy time and place wereth different. Wouldst thou enlighten me and mine of thy roots?” She said, as that sounded pretty interesting to her. How could she not question someone who was so out of the loop that he was almost from another world altogether? That sounded more and more intriguing the more she thought about it. Even more so than whatever he was hiding in his innards.

Regula Caelia

Hearing Aria take part of the blame didn't exactly made Regula feel any less foolish. Especially not with how much more injured Aria seemed as a result of her failure. If it wasn't for the healing magic, they'd have been in some serious trouble. Slowly, the pain would start to fade as their bodies finished mending. Their clothing and hair still looked like a mess though. “We're going to need to come up with an excuse for looking like we wrestled some bears...” Regula mumbled to nobody in particular. That was for a later concern, however, as she was surprised to hear Aria's words of comfort.

Hearing Aria continue to use Regula's name made her words all the more impactful. Was it true that just doing your best was enough? Truthfully, Regula couldn't quite convince herself it was. Her entire previous life she'd done her best, right up until the moment she'd lost and ended it all. What good was doing your best if it didn't get you to succeed in the end? Aria's next words, however, made a much bigger impact. She wasn't alone in this life. She had people on her side, this time around. She smiled at the mention of her barony being the crowning jewel of Ryke. “That sounds wonderful.” She admitted. She allowed herself to be pulled up by Aria, although being on equally wobbly legs after the fall.

That's when Aria pulled her in for a hug. Being embraced like that was strange, especially as she hadn't been the one to initiate the hug. The only one who'd ever held her like that was her mother, yet she'd been trying to avoid worrying Rosalia as of late, so she hadn't opened up to her as much as as a result and hadn't been comforted like this in a long time. She could feel the muscles throughout her body start to relax a bit, as a weeks of tension started to fade. However, Regula was genuinely shocked when Aria asked not to be sent from her side. “Why would I ever want to do such a thing?” That's when she chuckled, perhaps due to some of the emotions finally having come out. “I might not feel like I've earned your loyalty, but that doesn't mean that I won't try to hold-on to it. If this world will allow me one sin, let it be the sin of holding onto those I care about, even when I don't deserve them.”

Everything that Aria mentioned that she offered people sounded like simple things, a logical thing to do, but perhaps it wasn't. After all, Regula herself had rarely been granted such things in her previous life. Then again, has she ever given out those things either, in her past life? She couldn't say she had. “Perhaps growing up as a bastard that barely anyone knew or heard about has at least taught me some valuable things. Did you know I was delivering bread as a kid, just to earn enough scraps to get by? Before I started blacksmithing.” She stated, not feeling like she could rightfully claim more of that compliment than in a manner-of-factly way like this.

That left them with family matters. “We'll make it work.” She stated, sounding more convinced of her words than any thus far. “If anyone dares harm my friends, they'd best be ready to face hell. I'll make an example out of them so badly that nobody else will ever dare to try again.” The idea alone of someone using her loved ones against her was infuriating to her. “If you're scared how far he might be willing to go, we should just make sure we'd be able to go further than anything to beat him.” She said, but the mention of losing Rosalia did bring up one thing.

It was something Regula had always struggled with, which she'd never been open about before. Yet if there was any moment to get this weight off of her chest, it felt like now was the time for it. “Aria, do you remember how we once talked about being from other worlds in previous lives?” As soon as she mentioned the topic, she was already feeling hesitant again. It took some effort to push through. “I was sixteen... when I got here. That means... my mother.” She swallowed. “She raised someone that wasn't me, then continued to raise me as if I was that same person. It's... It... You know... Sometimes I think she knows. Other times I'm not sure. I never dared ask her.” She sighed deeply. “I fear I might lose her if I tell her, just like you're afraid of losing people, but I have to tell her at some point. If not, I might just be living a lie.”

She stoop up, flapping her wings a bit to see if they still did things and trying to distract herself. What she said next was probably going to sound stupid more than anything, but... “I'd like to try again. Don't worry, I won't go as high this time. I feel like if I just spread my wings whilst remaining on the leaf, I might at least get a feel for wind currents. This whole flying thing... it keeps feeling like I have to overcome it to grow.”

Retili Loxinofican
Elvario Elvario

Retili was pleased with the overall outcome of the disagreement with the Captain and said no more on the matter. He also put his cowl back up. He turned his remaining attention on the flock. He was surprised to find that she was selling breeding stock and he was surprised to see that they were quite valuable. It was no small wonder she roamed with them like this. Keeping them on the move would keep the sheep lean and fit. Prevented from becoming fat and lazy in some pen somewhere and given fine pasture to graze on. Retili figured that a ram that was capable of damaging the construct even a little was also a good sign of great breeding stock. Using his [Business F] skill, he evaluated the worth of the flock and wrote it down in one of the columns. He denoted the woman as a shepherd and looked up as she asked him what he was doing. "Unfortunately the Baroness is not looking to source ewes for a flock at this time, but we will certainly keep you in mind as a potential source for livestock." Retili replied, all hint of the bite he had earlier gone, instead transitioned to a friendly business tone. "I have been tasked by the Baroness Caelia with performing a census of the residents of her barony. If you would not mind, could you tell me if you own any land within the barony, where it is, and how much there is? Also your full name would be appreciated as well." He felt he had gotten a measure of her livelihood already so didn't ask about it.

Amanda Steelhaven

[Bussiness Expert][Agricultural Expert]
As Amanda inspected the flock of sheep her eyes would go wide with surprise, such a fine set of sheep! Given their condition and health, it went without saying that such a flock could easily sell for a small fortune to the right buyer! Fortune had smiled upon her this day! Such a find! This was what she had been looking for! A luxury resource the Barony could come to earn renown from! Ryke was the Trading Captial of the new continent, 'luxury items' such as prime breeding stock would sell well above the market price given its Ryke Origin! If the Barony could Employ this woman to breed such a flock and enter into an exclusive trading agreement with her then combine that with the strong Agricultural power of Amanda's new crop rotation... Celia Barony, its agricultural sector would boom and with it so would its reputation!

Composing herself, Amanda turned back to face Retili and the God-send that was the shepherd, only to hear Retili shut down negotiations before they could even begin! Almost falling over herself Amanda's eyes began to twitch in annoyance. Really! This was what had to be next! Straightening herself back up Amanda's forced smile gave off an extremely ominous air. One specifically directed towards Retili. Though Amanda had no intention of giving off such an air, at this stage Amanda's own will was not enough to hold it back. But at least she hadn't snapped yet. At least she wasn't publically arguing or chastising the man.

With a soft voice, forced smile and terrifyingly sweet tone, Amanda spoke up. Though as if the ominous air was not a tell-tale sign enough, Amanda's eyes did very little to hide her soured mood "Let's not be too hasty here Mr. Retili. Janja here has a remarkable flock, so much so that I would recommend she meet personally with the Baroness. I believe the Baroness could only benefit from such a meeting and so I'd appreciate it if you didn't so flippantly dismiss this fine shepherd's offer. I also specifically remember that the Baroness' flier is looking for someone with an 'entrepreneurial mindset' who doesn't 'shy away from tough work'. I believe our new shepherd friend here is a perfect fit, wouldn't you agree Mr Retili"

Retili turned a look on Amanda. [Empathy E, Insight F, Perception F] The Zentail did not seem daunted by the air being given off by the woman. He cocked his head to the side. "It's funny, I don't recall flippantly doing anything. I seem to recall that I stated that I was not looking to purchase livestock. I would appreciate it if you remain respectful in your dealings with me Miss Steelhaven." He purposefully used her last name. "Also, as a side note you may call me Master Loxinofican or Advisor Loxinofican from now on. As is appropriate. I will endeavor to do the same for you." He created some appropriate political distance between the two of them with that last step. Mentally he decided that he would be unavailable for that meeting. He'd be happy to keep their relationship purely professional from now on. He turned his attention back to the shepherdess. "That being said, Miss Steelhaven is quite correct. You do have an exceptional flock. While I am not authorized to make purchases on the Baroness's behalf, I would like to invite you to meet with her in Stonewall. She likely isn't available today i'm afraid, but she should be sometime within the next week if you are interested."

The golem wasn't entirely sure who the new comer was, but he turned and gave a bit of a friendly wave to her, before prompting bringing it back down to the cart. He didn't feel particularly suited to speak on the matter so he'd let someone else handle it, since he wasn't about to start making calls on who should be doing what when he didn't really have any real authority on the matter.

He still semi followed the conversation that Amanda, Retili and Micah were having but it was only bits and pieces of it, since he was still involved in the one which primarily involved him as a discussion topic.

Teuihua turned to Ezekiel and nodded. "I appreciate your clarification and kindness, many I have known would not bother giving it another thought." He spoke truthfully, who cared much what a construct though what you thought of them. as long as they stil carried out the task you assigned them after all? That had been a large part of Teuihua's experience.

"I understand that your duties are to serve and protect and part of that involves healthy skepticism. In someways they are not so indifferent than what my duties were patrolling the border."

He then turned to Ethel after her question, that one actually seemed quite topical he could explain more in depth what he did then, and where he was from. He figured he might as well since he hadn't before now that they were asking.

"I originate from the Mictlantecuhtli civilization. This used to be a prolific one at that and there were many more like me throughout. Unfortunately I have not seen any evidence to suggest that this is still the case, only the contrary. There were a group of strangers with bags and strange tools, when I woke up from stasis after one of them tried to take one of our prized bejewled skulls on one of our altars to Cuhxōch. Normally an offense like a non-priest or priestess of Cuhxōch removing a skull like that would carry swift execution, but since I could tell that they were foreigners I tried to warn them to put it back, but instead I managed to only scare them off and I was too slow to follow."

Teuihua sounded a bit more sad after that in his tone. "Afterward, when I looked around, I realized just how desolate the temple had become, while the intial chamber I woke up from appeared fine as did the altar room, the rest of what I knew of the city..had fallen into ruins many buildings i remember were not standing, worst yet I did not see another living being there who was familiar."

"As I said, one of my primary roles was patrolling the border and stopping any monsters or other hostiles from entering Mictlantecuhtlian land, but I also on occasion assisted in rebuilding and building critical infrastructure by moving materials or preparing land. "

Teuihua appeared to be in thought briefly before he continued a bit more careful in his word choice.

"I was fortunate in a way, there were many like me who were placed directly onto the battlefield against Mictlantecuhtlian enemies, as honorable as that would have been, my work always felt just on the border, without the complicated nature of war."

"I was not the only construct type of my civilization they had others for various purposes. As far as I can tell this time is much farther in the future then I ever witnessed many landscapes that I remember being one way are no longer."

"This is why, I feel divorced in time and place, all those I have spoken too have not even heard of the great Mictlantecuhtli ,so I can only assume any other cities met a similar fate to the one I woke up in."

Teuihua finally concluded, "I hope that is a satisfactory answer." He said looking towards Ethel, if she had anymore questions however he'd gladly answer them even if this. topic did seem to make him feel somewhat sad.

Micah felt like he perhaps zoned out for less than a good minute and suddenly all the conversations happening around him were way over his head. Not that it particularly bothered him. Not being the center of attention brought him relief, so he moved Laverne off to the side, getting her so slowly inch along the road while she got the chance to graze a bit. He didn't stray too far from the group, but he didn't try to stay attached at the hip to them either. His main focus was the mare he was riding and the land he was observing.

“I’m sorry..” Aria apologized as she realized she didn’t understand the meaning for her anguish, still holding onto Regula. Perhaps Aria simply didn’t carry any doubts about Regulas ability, she had unknowingly made her friends mission her entire purpose in life, “..for a moment i thought you were giving up. Therefore, you might have decided to live with your mother. I.. i certainly would if i had a mother..” Thats when Regula chuckled and she smiled a bit embarassed with herself.

Thats when Regula opened up in a way she usually didn’t speak, standing there in the field with nothing but the vast landscape before them, a gentle breeze rustling the vast meadow. A “I.. insist on disagreeing, you haven’t failed in any way. We all begin somewhere.” She broke the embrace softly, "Hmm. I began when i decided i didn’t want to be weak. To run the opposite way when danger appeared in the eyes of a murderer, a bandit, a monster. That day was when i decided to join the ranks..” She looked back out as she was visibly in thought, she then smiled to herself, “I didn’t even have a sword back then. Just me and my determination to help in any way i could. And now, here i am..” She turned back towards Regula with eyes full of hope, and conviction “..in service of the only person who could even for a moment, make the world dream of a brighter life. For that ‘m’lday', you have my sword, my faith and loyalty. Please dont be troubled by your thoughts."

Surely, Aria wanted her to know she was loved and cherished, it wasn’t exaclty the easiest time to be strong. As failures made even the strongest of people in whatever area of life to expereince bitterness and self doubt. She recalled, the various cadets that would enter the academy, the looks of hope smashed before the rigors of troop training. Many would quit, while the few that remained became formidable warriors. Yet it was very rare when even the smallest twinkle of that light still remained after such hardship.

Her full attention returned to Regula, who was speaking about something she usually felt embarassed about, which was her childhood. “You? A bread deivering girl?” Her head tilted a bit, “I’m curious to know more. I don’t remember anything of my own childhood.”

Aria had began to grow a bit more confident with the idea of freeing Leo and bringing her tyrant father to justice, seeing her friend return to her usual more determined self. She made a fist by her chest, “If that is your wish, i’ll be the first to follow. I’ll face my fear and this darkness. But, we must prepare before we do so."

Aria began to look herself over, she was definately worse for wear, poking her finger in one of the holes on her skirt. “This wont do.” She muttered.

Then Regula inquired about something, “Yes. The topic of other worlds has risen before. What of it?” Curiosity drew on her face as Regula visibly appear to hesitate, as if she was holding back about something. Very few things normally impressed, much less surprised the sword maiden. This new’s was actually quite the great surprise. Aria took a few steps back in shock, “Forgive me. But are you saying you’re from another world? How do you.. even know that? What makes you so sure?” The bit about having to tell Rosalia kind of pained Aria. What would she say when the time came and Regula would tell her?

“So.. it’s true. If there are people here from other worlds, then.. my father was right. I.. chose to come here and take on this body. I was.. i am.. a weapon?” The last bit was more and more of a whisper as her voice seemed to return to her mind to make sense of what Regula said would entail. What did it all mean? Regula didn’t seem to linger very long on the topic, before deciding to attempt one more time. Aria was still a bit, out of it though. It wasn’t everday someone heard about another coming from another world or plane. Much less another one of those people meeting and confessing such things with one antoher. As it could be seen as a weakness, something to be taken advantage with, or simply not very smart. Aria had felt comfortable with Regula, she trusted her completely. But the possibilities of what was and what is would linger.

Aria nodded, and summoned the leaf once more, it was obvious she was thinking about something, but wouldn’t mention anything. She sighed as her attention returned to her friend’s pursuits, “If i may, perhaps hold onto the leaf, laying face down, spread your wings and fly with the leaf.” She smiled softly, “Yes.. unfortunately i’m of very little use to you in a practical sense in regards to flying. I pray you succeed Regula. You must.”

Janja Berger

The girl's eyes went from Amanda to Retili, then back to Amanda, then back to Retili. Needlessly to say, she was having a tough time figuring out what she was dealing with here. First the small guy told her she'd not have a customer in them, then she got asked about owning land and for her full name. “My full name? That'd be Janja Berger~ It's been ages since I used my surname.” What was the other question again? Right. “Land? No, I don't own anything. Not yet at least. I just moved here from the barony up north, a small village called Aston in another county. Right now I'm looking for a a good location to settle at, that'd allow me lots of room to keep my sheep in shape~”

It was great to hear that she'd have a baroness as a potential customer, but these two made her wonder if she'd ended up the point of interest in some sort of rivalry. “Ehm... meeting with a Baroness? I don't think I'm fancy enough for all that, normally nobles just sent their servants if they want to buy from me.” She was quick to add, as she was not eager to deal with some stuck-up noble who'd probably have no idea what they were talking about when appraising her quality flock. As good as it'd be to have more noble customers, she'd rather try to avoid meeting them directly. The weird way of the compliments coming her way also confused he r, as they sounded more like an attack against the small man than a praising of her efforts. “Eh... thank you..?” She replied to Amanda, very hesitantly.

Next up, when she heard the small man reply to the woman pretty darn coldly, she really felt like she'd been caught up in a rivalry between two people. Then again, the small guy went to praise her flock as well..? Was it the powerful friendship forming factor of quality sheep? Of course it was. “Thank you, they're my pride and joy~” Upon the notion of meeting the baroness in Stonewall, she once again had some reservations. “I don't think you'll want a simple girl like me to meet your nobles, believe me~ Can't I just wait to hear back from either of you?” She felt like that'd be a much safer and easier option, although she was worried that she'd spark their rivalry all over again.

Ethel

Ethel, meanwhile, was eagerly taking in Teuihua's words. “Thou roots hath thy placeth skulls upon altars? Thou roots must've been most foul indeed!” She stated, although her tone of voice was much more akin to one of curiosity than insult. “Thou must find thyself suffering with thy roots being long-lost. Feared thee not! I shalt aid thee in thy quest to gaineth acquaintance in these times!” She said, upon hearing him sound saddened. She nodded along with some of Teuihua's conclusions. “War is utmost foul indeed!” She wasn't sure how much she even understood, but her conclusion was correct. “If thou art divorced in time and place, I shalt help thee remarry with this time and place!” Apparently fancy stories about the past were enough to get Ethel to go from considering him a potential fiend to a potential friend. There was one thing she still wondered about. “Why wouldst thou clergy placeth skulls upon thine altars? Ist thou Cuhxoch a deity that demandst thee body and flesh in sacrifices?”

After their talks wrapped up (feel free to include that in the post), the group was able to move on to the village of Sootspire without further interruption. What greeted them there was a village at the foot of a lone mountain, with people who were noticeably stocky and muscular, with many of them being taller than the average man or woman. As for buildings, there was only one street with them other than a few outlier buildings. A small inn/tavern, a smithy and a single store were all that housed the village's 'centre' and the store didn't even seem to be open today. With everyone having their own tasks here, it'd be up to the group to decide to split up or not and/or where to go next. (feel free to ask me about options if you're unsure how to proceed). Notably, the baroness and Aria hadn't arrived yet, making it easy to assume they'd been held up by something in their plans to fly here.

Regula Caelia

At some points, living a quiet life with her mother might not have seemed too bad, but that was definitely not enough to kill off her ambitions. “Hmm?” She was a bit confused at Aria mentioning not having a mother. “Aren't we already sharing mine? I mean, you're not related to her by blood, but I thought, well, you know, that you were okay with her being a mother to you?” Had she assumed too much? “Although it would be a little problematic if you ran away with her to live a quite life in a cottage in the woods~” She said, attempting to lighten the mood a little.

Hearing about Aria's start was a surprise. In Regula's mind, Aria had always been a warrior. Imagining a time where Aria didn't even have a sword was peculiar at best. Then again... didn't Aria say something along those lines when Regula forged her a sword upon their first meeting? She couldn't quite recall. She sighed, followed by a smile. “It's tough to stay troubled by thoughts when you're here to ease my mind. Thank you.” She still wasn't fully convinced by all of Aria's words, especially regarding her not failing. Even so, hearing someone talk about backing her like Aria did was enough to put her at ease.

She laughed at Aria's surprise at her bread delivery job. “It was awful. I had to deliver bread in the early morning when it was still fresh, but we couldn't always afford to buy breakfast, so sometimes I was running all around the capital on an empty stomach with the most delicious bread right in front of me. On lucky days, I got get the remains from previous day at the end of my shift, but I didn't hold out for much longer than a month. That's when I eventually found Rossle to start training me as a blacksmith.”

That's when the heaviest of topics landed again. Other worlds. Her own worry about her mother potentially being unaware of it was still troubling Regula, but Aria's words were currently troubling her more. “I'm not sure what's right or wrong, but I do know one thing. Regardless of what anyone says, you're my most precious friend. You're far more than a weapon. I don't care what you were before that or how you got here or what your father tried to make you, but I know that you're far more than whatever plans your father might've had for you.”

She nodded at Aria's advice, as she used the leaf like a peddle-board. Except she as flying with it. As she was getting higher again, she could feel the wind currents. It took her a lot of [Focus], but eventually she managed to clear her mind of all the troubles that'd been wandering through it. Although she didn't go as high this time around, she was still high enough to feel the wind's currents try to grab a hold of her. As she spread her wings, she felt it all the more. However, she wasn't sure why, but she felt more comfortable. Grounded, despite being up in the air.

That's when she felt it. Something felt natural, as if the wind was gently trying to pick up her wings. That was it. She let go of the leaf again. Once more, she floated by wings alone. However, this time around, the moment the wind currents picked up, she was ready for it. A single, gently flap of the wings and a light reorientation. That was all she needed. That was it! She was still flying. Slowly and carefully, she flapped her wings again a few times, gaining a bit of altitude. Then she stopped, gliding down a bit. Sure, her movements were extremely basic, without a shred of grace, but... she was really flying!

For a little more, she managed to keep going up and down, even able to turn a little mid-air, but eventually her wings started to cramp up. With effort, she managed to land, gliding back down again safely. Although her wings were hurting, the smile on her face couldn't be bigger. “Did you see that?!? It worked! I was finally flying!” She ran up to Aria to embrace her again, feeling like a huge weight had been lifted from her.

Ryan Kylieth

With so much going on around him, and most likely to Sherwood's envy, Ryan was able to fade into the background. With nobody interacting with him, he silently waited for the chats surrounding him in order to continue the walk towards the village. Upon arriving, knowing everyone had their own business here, Ryan prepped to be on his way. Loading a wooden rack with the tools he had to deliver. Once all of the tools were loaded and secured with ropes, he carefully slung the rack to his back. "I'll go my own way for now. I have some work ahead of me. Thank you for carrying this all the way here, Mister Teuihua" he spoke for the group to hear before turning away from the group and venturing into the village at a slow, but steady pace.

It didn't take long for Ryan to spot the smithy. Venturing inside slowly and carefully, in order to not ruin the works he was carrying. "Hello? Good afternoon, I brought some requested tools from Stonewall. I was tasked to bring them here." he voiced his intention to whomever might be inside. He considered sticking with the group, or at least wait for Regula and Aria. But Gobán's special task for him was something he'd very much rather do alone. Just him and Aileen.

Once again Teuihua heard pieces of what the others were saying but his main focus was on his spiel and the response it got for the time being. Regardless he thought from what he had heard from Janja she was rather interesting.

The golem wasn't really sure if he followed Ethel's logic about the roots being foul, but even then she didn't seem to mean it in an inflamintory way despite what Teuihua's understanding of the word was which might suggest otherwise. He was surpirsed to hear the pivot of her proclaiming she'd help him get aquainted to where he was and the current time. It would be much appreciated since even much of the armor he had seen was unfamiliar to him, while there did seem to be crossovers in weapontry and tools from time to time with what he remembered and what he saw now, but even then the refinement process of available technology had made amany goods he saw look superior in quality and material compared to what could be accomplished back whne he was from.

"I appreciate your desire to aid me Ethel, Thank you I..look forward to it." The golem said with a much more friendly intonation shifting from the sad one he had used earlier. Teuihua was pleased to hear that she was in agreement about war, he knew it was a necessity, back in his time it was increasingly so the strong coquered the weak, better to be the one taking over than the one on the other side of the spear.

He was also pleased to hear her say she'd help remarry him with this time and place, it sounded more and more like she was willing to accept him., the thanks intended for both comments.

Upon her question regarding the war god Teuihua thought for a moment pausing, as he lumbered along with the rest of the group before replying, "Only during times of war, the last I remember we were in a fairly large scale conflict. The skulls were harvested from the corpses of enemies, preferably ones of military importance, and bejewled with prescious stone to show thanks respect for our succcess on the battlefield thanks to Cuhxoch, I only know so much about this process because I've been on standby on guard for many ceremonies."

"During the peaceful times bejeweled animal skulls and bones are more appropriate offerings."
Teuihua concluded, and by that point in the conversation they were probably close to Sootspire.
---
Once inside Teuihua noticed that Sootspire was different from other parts of what he'd seen. The people were taller and stronger on average, reminding him more of home with the body types that were frequent in the biological guards who accompanied him.

"I understand Ryan, it is no problem, I too must bring what I carry where they belong." He concluded. Teuihua was ready to get a move on with the cart of materials ready to deliver them where they needed to go, likely needing further instruction to do so, so for the time being he was on standby awaiting furhter instruction on where to finish bringing the cart.

The Zentail gave the sherpherdess a sympathetic smile. "If you don't wish to meet with the baroness I will not force you. If you stay in the area i'm certain she will come to you or I can work out a deal with you once I return to her and speak to her about your skills as a shepherd." Retili then returned to the matter of the census and collected all the information he needed from her before they moved on.

The arrival in Sootspire reminded that he was a small Zentail in a big world even more then his usual companions did. Retili was a bit surprised they did not find the Baroness awaiting them. He was certain she had mentioned traveling separately to be faster or something of the like. Without her here though he detached from the group on his own and made his way around the village speaking to various folk. His introduction was fairly standard, he started with his name and occupation, then his task as given to him by the Baroness. He used his people skills [Persuasion E, Insight F, Empathy E, Perception F, Business F] where appropriate to address any concerns about the validity of his claim or his task. He also used it to see if he could get anyone to offer up the location of any notable artisans who could makes some seals or amulets for the baroness.

Amanda Steelhaven

Amanda almost chuckled when Retili spoke on his action, though he was right about one thing, perhaps the word 'flippantly' wasn't best suited to describe how he had replied to the shepherd's offer. No, he was right; 'Ignorantly' was a far more suitable word. But that aside what really made Amanda almost brake her composure was what followed his comment on the use of 'flippantly'. The small man seemed to be living in an alternate reality to the rest of the group. When did he state he, himself, wasn't interested in the purchase of those ewes? He had spoken on behalf of the Baroness, rejected an offer on her behalf and even went as far as to use the word we. Was he really so delusional and far removed from his own actions? It was comical really, in it's own way.

Regardless Amanda had managed to withhold her urge to laugh at the sheer insanity of the situation unfolding before her. Retili had decided it best the two refer to one another by their last names and Amanda was all too willing to comply, however, it would be a cold day in hell when she used the prefix of master in reference to Ratili. This was only further cemented when he returned his focus to the shepherd once more and blatantly, without batting an eye, spoke an apocracy aloud. So he felt he couldn't make a purchase on the Baroness' behalf but could decline a business offer for her? Just what went on in that head of his? Was this really an Advisor to a noble?

With Retili speaking to the shepherd then and likely scaring her with the mention of the Baroness ambushing the poor girl, Amanda gave up. Especially when he made mention of making the deal himself should the Baroness not appear. What a fantastic idea, it wasn't like the economy could get much worse right? Yet another task of his Amanda would undoubtedly have to take over or have tossed at her. Shaking her head Amanda moved back to her horse and remounted, reading to leave.

With the group reaching their first destination, Amanda was finally free to handle the task she actually had been assigned by the Baroness. Truth be told though Amanda wasn't too excited about it. Not in terms of Soothspire anyway. Soothspire was a rocky and mountainous zone, it wasn't suited to farming and to make it suitable would require far more work than would be beneficial in the long run. What Amanda really needed was to convince the Baroness Soothspire was more suited to another task/goal. But before she could do that, or even attempt to do so. So with a rough idea in mind, Amanda set off to inquire about the village's current industrial situation.

Entering the Smithy Ryan would be met by a young woman bearing some semblance of resemblance to Aileen. Manning the front desk the woman was dressed more like a baker than a blacksmith and the basket of baked pieces of bread sitting upon the countertop really drove that home, in fact, were it not for the weapons, tools and armour on display one might have even doubted they had entered the right shop for a moment.

Eyes shining and smile beaming the woman brought her hands to her mouth and quickly turned away from Ryan, fixing her hair before returning to look at him with a subtle blush "H.Hello! You must be here for the blacksmith! He's out at the moment dealing with some business.". Moving a finger to her long hazel hair, the woman began toying with it, twirling it gently around her finger, eyes diving to the floor as her blush grew "But if there's anything I could help you with... I'd be happy to"

As he continued to wear his hood on his way in, Ryan didn't quite register that there was someone there with him. He wasn't able to hide his shock when he saw Aileen. No, someone very similar actually. He slowly pulled back his hood to see the young woman addressing him properly. Her resemblance to Aileen was quite something, enough so to get some red to his face. He cleared his throat after a deep inhale to calm himself before engaging in conversation.

"I am, to some extent. I came from Stonewall to leave these here" he stated as he turned to show the assortment of tools he was carrying properly. The lady seemed to have some sort of mental turmoil, as she appeared to be even more nervous than he was. He wondered why for a moment. Perhaps she wasn't prepared for customers, or maybe she didn't feel comfortable in this establishment since it was clearly not her trade. That much was clear from the outfit and the quality bread she had near her.

As Ryan observed her playing with her hair, and avoiding eye contact, a third possibility came clear to his head. His blush became a bit more evident, but he tried his best to push through. "I-I... was also sent to check on the current equipment of the village folk." he answered, in a fast paced tone. He kept Aileen out of the talk since, again, that felt like that was a private matter. One he'd have to address eventually if he wanted to find her...

Once arriving at Sootspire, Micah watched the party slowly disband and wander off in different directions. Dismounting Laverne and thanking her for her cooperation, the elf was visibly hesitating at actually moving further. He could see the tavern, and he knew he had to go there but.. what if the individual Hestia's package was for wasn't there?
Shifting from foot to foot for a moment, Micah looked up at the human military man they'd been travelling with. Ezekiel was his name from what he gathered. "Um.. excuse me for bothering further but.. would you happen to know- and I know this is a wild assumption, who might madam Hestia be related to at that tavern? I'm supposed to deliver a package to them but I don't want to unintentionally give it to the wrong person so-.. y-y'know.." He trailed off, fidgeting with the reins and averting his eyes. Asking people questions really wasn't easy. "I-I'll just.." He whispered and began to scurry off towards the tavern in a feeble attempt to flee his own question.

Aria looked away, deeply embarrassed,I.. forgive me i..” She stuttered, “..in all honesty, i just felt maybe you’d be jealous.” She’d look away, “I can’t deny that she’s the sweetest and kindest person i have ever met. In all honesty, considering the life i lead, would it be fair to her to have to worry about a militant daughter like me?” Aria seemed to be having a hard time understanding love as something to be felt and cherished not necessarily protected the sword maiden’s very existance was meant for war. Aria would then smile a bit, “If i was someone else Regula, i likely wouldn’t have it any other way than a quiet life in the woods.” She crossed her arms, her index finger adjusting her fingerless glove.

Aria bowed her head at her friends comforted words, “You’re most welcome, lady Regula.” It would quickly follow with a few blinks as the baroness laughed, Was it something she said? Then it turned out it was a story of hardship. “I see. My childhood is.. i.. dont remember now that i try to recall.” She pondered, “I just.. appeared in the inn where i worked, and.. well, that’s it.. i just did as i was told. It took me quite a while understand how to live the life of a barmaid. I can’t complain at the wonderful people i met, but the stories i heard angered me, and so, it inspired me to train. I somehow always knew what to do.”

“I’m deeply saddened by the idea of seeing you as a little one, having to go through hunger. Many do.”
She sighed, “However, your story inspires me to keep fighting. Build a barony without such corruption.”

She listened to Regulas comments about her own dilemma with having being brought for another world. Regula had a way of being assuring, to which she nodded. Regardless of where they came from, surely everyone chose their destiny. However, she recalled Marcus her father, saying she had performed some kind of ritual to assume the soul of another in exchange for immense destructive power. If that’s who she truly was, then it was for the best. However, would Marcus know about that? Could he banish her soul back in an attempt to get her ‘real’ daughter back? It was hard to say, but for now, it was best the topic of Marcus and Leo be kept as low as possible.

After giving her advice, Regula then took to the skies once more, this time completing her first flight!

Ari a cheered, waving at her with wide arms as she came closer and closer, finally blowing a small gust of wind. Aria covered her eyes for a moment, before running up to Regula and reciprocatig the embrace. “That was wonderful! You did it! I knew you would!” for all the emotionally charged conversations, there seemed to be a great ending to this task, one where Regula had finally learned to fly!

The smithy Ryan found himsel in, carrying the odd name The Ironbender, was a little different from that in Stonewall. To his trained eye, two things stood out. First was the amount of 'rough' ores that were piled in corners, behind the building, in barrels... It was clear this smithy had no shortage of ore to refine. Second was the open feeling of the place. Accessing things quickly and easily was likely deemed more important than ensuring nothing would get stolen. He'd find a spot for the tools he was asked to deliver on one of the racks standing around with no issues, should he wish to put them down in the smithy.

??? was standing further inside when she had addressed him, close to where the 'smithy' part led to a door that was likely the 'house' part of this building. It was also one of the few parts that seemed like it could be closed off by large double-doors (it'd be behind the POV in the image), should there ever be a project that needed some privacy or a room away form distractions. Right now, the smithy was pretty much an open-floor plan though.

The equipment he was meant to check up on was likely meant to be some stuff in active use, but Ryan would get a first grasp on things in this place. After all, multiple racks and barrels of tools with broken pickaxes suggested that folk here were miners and that they were either working a lot and with tough material or that they didn't care much for tools. All of them were in pretty bad shape, some probably needed to be molten down and reforged rather than repaired. Most notably, however, was a very thin Orichalcum sword in the back. It was the only weapon of high quality around and from what it looked like, it had been recently worked on.

The place Micah was asked to deliver his goods at, had a very peculiar name. A tavern called 'Rockmead Ale' with no name of whomever might be running things there. He would spot a small stable, which would have room for Lavern, at the back of said tavern. However, rather than facing the oddly named tavern alone, he enlisted the aid of the guard captain.

Ezekiel was a bit surprised by the sudden question. He'd subconsciously written the Elf off as someone that was 'just there' so for the elf to suddenly come over to ask him questions shattered that preconceived notion. However, upon the content of that question, he was clearly a bit uncomfortable answering. “Yes, I know, but... if she hasn't told you.” He wasn't sure if he should, in that case. However, when the Elf headed for the tavern, he felt bad for him. “Hold up, I need to go there as well. The man you're looking for is called Berk.” That part he could say, at the very least.

Berk
XERrBOW.png

Berk was a tall and imposing man. One might even mistake him for a bear from a distance. Then again, that was the case with most folk from Sootspire. When he saw an Elf walk in, his eyebrows frowned even further than they naturally did. “What's a fancy looking lad like you doing all the way out here?” He called out. His voice wasn't hostile, but the fact that he questioned the arrival before welcoming it wasn't boding well.

Luckily enough, Ezekiel tried to back him up. “He's working for madam Hestia.”

Even though it was the guard captain speaking, Berk didn't seem too impressed. He turned to Micah again. “Are you now?” He said, staring at the Elf without a shred of mercy.

Retili, meanwhile, had been able to get a few questions answered. However, there were two common reactions he'd get. One was from older or younger folk that were a little intimidated by the small army of strange looking folk that Retili brought along. They tended to answer his questions, but with a clear desire to get away as soon as possible. The other was from those at the prime of their lives, who tended to be a little more hostile in their replies, clearly not being too eager to
comply. Then again, his documentation and people skills would get him to get his answers.

However, at one point, someone mentioned “why don't you just talk to Berk? He knows everyone.” a statement that was soon backed up by others, which is what would've led Retili to the tavern as well. It was said that this Berk loved staying up to date with everything going on in Sootspire and knew not just about all its current citizens, but also about everyone that ones lived her up until some three generations into the past and there was a joke going around he also already knew the next two generations to come. Some notable names he'd have heard mentioned were those of the tavern owner Berk himself, the prospector Hallr, the smith Jarek, someone called madam Prisca, who people talked about with considerable reverence and a certain Tisiphone, who was apparently a periodical visitor that made waves whenever she was around. Regarding artisans, he learned that most people here worked in the mining industry, but there were a few masons and quarry workers as well. None of the artisans mentioned seemed like they'd make for good artisans for seals or amulets.

That's when she remembered something. “Wouldst thou desireth to alter thou speech to thine recent time? I shalt teacheth thee!”

To learn what types of ores they were mining, however, she'd need to ask someone involved in the process itself. (I'll leave it up to Amanda to see how far (if at all) she'd enter the mines themselves or if they'd be just outside of them.). Just don't run off with her and we'll be golden~” She laughed at the suggestion of Aria being a militant daughter. “She's got a daughter that's trying to become royalty and spends some of her free-time nearly tumbling to her death, I'm sure she can handle you on top of it. Besides, knowing my mother, she'd be more worried about not being allowed to be worried about someone like you, if that makes sense.”

Her interested was piqued as an interesting thought formed. “Say, if you learned to work a bar for so long, it'd be a waste to let that knowledge go to waste, right? How about you ask madam Hestia if you can help out for a chance. See if you still got it~” Regula said, honestly just being curious to see what Aria would be like working as barmaid more than anything else.

She nodded at Aria's conviction. “Now a Barony. Tomorrow a County. Next week a Duchy. Next year a Kingdom. Then in a decade, an Empire. That'd sound neat, doesn't it?” She knew those ambitions were a bit overly ambitious, but she hadn't yet given up on thinking big.

As for the topic of flying... “Thank you, but I couldn't have done it without your support!” There was one flip side. “My wings are aching all over though, I think I'll need to work on my endurance next. How about we take another sprint to Sootspire, instead of taking flight? When asked about our looks, we can say we went a little overboard with training. It's not the best excuse, but I wouldn't know any better.”

With that said, Regula and Aria would be able to make their way over to Sootspire as well.

As Regula and Aria entered Sootspire, Teuihua was the first the spotted. Being the one that stuck closest the the villages entrée point and being a giant, it was difficult not to spot him. That said, despite her own ragged stated, Regula's blacksmith instincts immediately kicked in. “Is that a dent..? What happened? You weren't attacked, right?” She spotted the results of the ram attack against Teuihua almost immediately, which gave her enough reasons for concern.

There was another reason for concern, now that she thought about it. “Ah, right, could you go look for Amanda, Aria? I promised I'd look at her schematics and have her explain them. I'd rather get through that sooner rather than later.”

Getting Laverne secure, Micah shuffled inside the tavern with the package he was told to deliver. The exchange between the captain and whom he assumed to be the tavern keep solidified Micah's assumption that all small towns were unwelcoming by design. Maybe he should change his plans and work up to buying a horse and leaving for greener pastures or something?

"Hestia asked me to deliver this because I'm passing by.. I'll get out of your hair shortly." Micah assured as he set the package in front of the man, on the bar and stepped away with the intention of walking out and going to hide with Laverne. If Hestia said something about pay, Micah couldn't remember any more. After a few days of peace and quiet just getting to take care of horses and being exposed to Hestia's kind personality, today had been like being doused with freezing cold water and asking for more. It made the elf tired. Was he being overdramatic? Perhaps, he would deal with the embarrassment of that in a couple of days time though.

Cynthia

At the mention of Stonewall the woman would nod gently and again then at the mention of inspecting tools, though still avoiding eye contact it was clear she was paying attention to what Ryan had to say. "Nobody tells me anything..." Sighing to herself the woman moved to her basket and retrieved a small loaf of bread and moved to approach Ryan, coming out from behind the front desk to do so. Offering the loaf to him she smiled sweetly and finally made eye contact with the man. Her gentle smile, gem-like eyes and warm demeanour shone through much like her obvious blush. Having practically forced the loaf into Ryan's hand the woman chuckled softly and offered him a wink upon seeing he too had been blushing. Pressing her advantage she spoke in a cheerful tone "That one's on the house, from me to you. I baked it this morning, do let me know what you think mkay?".

Turning away the woman would then bring her hands to her hips and puff up her cheeks as she glanced around the messy workplace, clearly annoyed by the clutter "Tools, tools... tools. Hmm, where did he put them...". Moving to investigate the woman suddenly exclaimed "Oh! I know!". Moving to a barrel she waved over Ryan with a smile "Here, these are some pickaxes and shovels that need... some notable work.". Turning to Ryan the woman would slip past him, just barely squeezing past without contact, and move to stand behind him so as to not be in his way. "And I do recall the mine itself keeps quite a number of tools in storage that may be in the same state.".

Eyeing him up from behind, the woman was forced once again to divert her gaze. Steam practically rising from her ears at this point "So eh... stranger, what's your name? I'm Cynthia and I'm singl... singing I like singing! La La La~". 'Stupid! Singing! REALLY! Could you be any more obvious you ditz'

Amanda Steelhaven

Amanda was already aware Sootspire dealt in mining and ore refinement but having never actually been to the village or seen the mines up close she hadn't the knowledge needed to properly consider or plan how to take advantage of such. Let alone improve or expand the operation. No industrialising Sootspire was a long-term goal and in-depth investigation and research into the matter would be needed beforehand. So, here she was, standing at the mines, writing away to herself when suddenly approached by a stranger whom she smelled far before she heard.

Looking up with a smile Amanda chuckled "Why thank you for the compliment. However, I'm here on official business I'm afraid. The Baroness has asked me to investigate Celia Barony's infrastructure, this mine included. I hate to be a bother sir, but could you perhaps show me to the mine overseer? I have a letter for him that should explain as much."

Ryan Kylieth

"I'll put these over here" Ryan commented to the lady as he carefully deposited the tools on the available rack, putting down the metal frame he was using as one next to them. That's when she got close to him, handing him fresh bread. He considered refusing, as he was on the clock and had plenty to do by the looks of it. But the young woman insisted, basically forcing it into his hands. "I... Ah. Well, thank you."

In the meantime, the baker looked around for the tools that needed repairs. Once she found them, Ryan walked up to her and checked the barrel. He removed his hood, and went silent. Cynthia took the chance to speak, as she was right behind him, which put him a bit on edge. "Nice meeting you Cynthia. I'm Ryan, Ryan Kylieth" he said, doing the utmost effort in pretending he didn't hear her almost slip up on a very important word. Luckily, she wouldn't be able to see his facial expression when she did

"Wou... would you mind, holding this for a moment? I don't want to ruin it" Passing his bread back to Cynthia as he checked up on a shovel and a pickaxe he pulled out from the barrel. They looked awful. Just to be safe, Ryan used his [Appraisal E] to see if his eye was missing something, or they were actually in such a terrible state. He put them back in the barrel, and sighed, pulling out more pairs of tools, taking notes in a small notebook formerly hidden underneath his cloak. "...Tools near the mine might be in the same state..." He thought out loud as he finished taking notes.

Putting away his notebook, something called to him, he slowly moved towards it and gave it a thorough look without touching it [Appraisal E] "Say, Cynthia... Do you happen to know why is there a recently worked on orichalcum sword here? It stands out quite a bit..." And of course, there was also the question he should've asked first "By the way, have you seen the other blacksmith from Stonewall? Amber eyes, long hair in a ponytail, about... this tall?" he questioned as he gestured the last detail of Aileen that came to mind at the moment "Her name is Aileen if that helps."

Retili Loxinofican

Retili was quite successful in his task for the baroness thus far. While he had gotten some folk who were gruff and callous about his task, he felt he was still completing it adequately. It was however as he was getting through some decent answers he hit a brick wall. A middle-aged miner told him that he should just go see Berk. Retili didn't quite know who Berk was, but it was quickly explained to him that Berk knew most folk in the town. Apparently he liked to stay appraised of the situation in Sootspire, particularly when it came to people in town. The Zentail wasn't sure that he liked the idea of having to get information through a third party. He was however certain that if he wanted to make anymore progress he would have to go talk to Berk. So he set off for the Tavern. It didn't take him long to find the place, and as he stepped inside he spotted the Bear of a man. Ezekial and the Elf from earlier were also here. Retili stepped past the Elf at the door and approached the bar. With a graceful jump he made the short leap onto a bar stool. As for the rest of his minions they made their way to tables around the Tavern and sat down. Retili removed his cowl and his face came fully into view. If it wasn't clear already, Berk would easily be able to tell he was of Fae origin. Like with most though, probably not any kind he had seen before.

Retili motioned back at the minions behind him and spoke. "A light ale for my men." He looked to Ezekial a moment before seeming to come to a decision. "Ale captain? It has been a long walk today." Regardless of if the Captain accepted he would speak to the barkeep again. "I'll have whatever ale you recommend as well. Then I have a few questions. I am Retili Loxinofican, Advisor to the Baroness Caelia, and I have a few questions about the folk in town if you don't mind. I was trying to complete a census I was tasked with completing but everyone said it would be faster to speak with you." He tried to put a bit of easy charm into his tone to convince the man while he got a good look at him for the first time since entering. Teuihua was a tad surprised to hear Ethel's almost positive reaction to hearing about the religious practice, but by the same notion he was rather pleased to hear it. He naturally decided that he would answer her question to the best of his ability. "Many of the jewels were mined from all over the known world, either the jewels of our enemies or our own are preferable if you want to practice properly. Of course it'd be even more ideal if you had a priest or priestess of Cuhxōch to bless the jewels for the eyes and the center but under these circumstances It would be accepted to do it yourself as there is no priest or priestess of Cuhxōch available in this realm anymore but surely Cuhxōch would still desire offerings even after all these years under these circumstances." Teuihua concluded. He looked curiously at Ethel when Ethel offered to teach him how to speak like the current time.

"That would be most helpful in addition , Ethel, I would certainly appreciate learning more about the appropriate linguistics for this time, even the common does not sound the same to what I necessarily recall but I understand it well enough." This was a fair assessment Teuihua speaking common unlikely sounded like any familar dialect to anyone who hadn't been living all the way back then too.

Of course now there was the issue of not being sure where to bring the lumber as he looked around, trying to see if there was anything that made sense. He figured it was probably better to wait then randomly go off in Sootspire to try to find who or where he was supposed to deliver it too by random luck and happenstance. Surely if they wanted him to go somewhere specific they would have told him where to go so for now he waited with the cart. Thankfully it seemed that deciding to stick around paid off because an unfamilar face presumably made his way from a nearby mine carrying some kind of material Teuihua couldn't identify by appearance alone. Whatever it was it was pretty clear this was a very strong organic person based on the physique from what Teuihua could tell. He also looked like a hard worker. Under normal circumstances the golem may have offered to help carry what the man had on his back, but Teuihua was currently in the midst of a pressing task which he did not want to abort for it was the reason he came there.

Teuihua took his more dexterous arm off the cart briefly and gave Sootspire miner a friendly wave despite his not exactly warm questioning, and then continued with a warm intonation,

"Greetings, My name is Teuihua. I am currently in the servitude of the Barony of Caelia, under Baroness Regula Caelia and am here to help where I can. I came here accompanying a group who have their own various assignments to fulfill which is why we are here. I myself am currently here to deliver this lumber, but I am uncertain where I am supposed to bring it too, because I was not informed explicitly and this is my first time here, so I have decided to wait until further instruction."

---

Thankfully it wasn't too long after he had started talking to the miner, that the Baroness herself and Aria followed. He then looked over at her, giving a wave once more with his hand. Giving a bit of a small bow automatically upon being in her presence again.

"I hope your journey here was safe and most pleasant Baroness. It is okay, no one in the group was injured. The Shepard Janja's ram was spooked by my presence on the way here. As a result he rammed into me, and I did not want to hurt the animal. so I put my densest arm forward to protect myself. My functionality has not been compromised as far as I can tell and the animal was not harmed either."

"Ryan has successfully retrieved his Gobán goods from this cart so that portion of my current objective is complete now I just need to finish delivering the lumber, but when I was told I could assist in this way I was not given further instruction on where to bring this lumber before we left or upon arrival." Teuihua spoke truthfully.

Cynthia

As Ryan moved to take down his hood Cynthia couldn't help but glance his way again, stealing a glance at his facial features and rogue-like hair. She could only pray her little mix-up with almost spouting her marital status went unnoticed, and seemingly it had! What a relief! Taking the loaf back in hand, the young woman would watch as Ryan inspected the tools, swaying her body from left to right so as to follow his hands with her eyes. He was so diligent, so careful in his workings... such big and strong hands yet such a gentle and caring touch. Cynthia had hit the jackpot! This was an honest-to-goodness, hardworking and diligent man! Not to mention he was more than easy on the eyes! What she had expected to be just a delivery on behalf of her father had turned out to be quite a beneficial personal ordeal! Being roped into working the forge for the day actually had its benefits! Now how to win him over...

An orchelium sword... ah yes that would win any man over! wait... what? Snapping back to reality Cynthia's train of thought was derailed entirely by the question. What was with men and their swords anyway! If it wasn't her uncles and father debating about who had forged the better weapon it was an adventurer trying to show off, or even worse, one of those pesky guards from the capital who thought it gave them the right to throw around their weight in Kirkwall without a care in the world. But alas, she wasn't going to lose to a damn sword!

Moving to the weapon Cynthia removed it from its holster and went about performing a few quick motions with it, before repeating those same motions with it in her offhand. Her movements were dance-like and polished, and it was clear to see she had not only talent but skill in the art given she was still juggling the bread loaf in her free hand. Returning it to its resting place, Cynthia was delighted to have had the chance to show off, hoping it had earned her some brownie points. With a sweet smile she spoke on the weapon "It's a custom piece, of course, I can't tell you who commissioned it but it's in for maintenance at the moment. It's still a little off-balance but I'm sure my uncle will fix that once he's back. Still, it's quite the impressive blade don't you think?"

Offering Ryan another wink she spoke quietly "But really I shouldn't have told you even that much, so let's keep that between you and me ok? Our little secret".

However, her playful expression was very quickly swapped to that of surprise when he made mention of Aileen. Turning quickly, she tossed the loaf back toward him and hid her face, only now realising why the name he had spoken was so familiar "R..Ryan... so you're that Ryan...". Staying silent for a few seconds to comprehend what it was she had just come to realise Cynthia turned quickly on her heel and offered the man a smile. With her hand to her chest, she struck a powerful pose, eyes clearly determined "Look, Ryan! I'm a straightforward type of person. So I'm just going to say it! I'm way more suitable as a wife than my gorilla of a cousin! I... I can prove it! One date! Go on one date with me! Give me a chance!"
