Let's say that since Kalon is 27 and was only a baby when the war was happening! You're character is quite old(I think you said they've lived for centuries) so they took care of Kalon when they were a bab through their teenage years? Kalon mentioned that someone told him to give people a chance at stuff so that could be your character! Kalon most likely looks to Somniare as a mother-figure..
