Sounds like the idea is to use Izuru's sword which has the capability of manipulating the elements and in this case it's earth manipulation would be utilized.

Or Grigori could very well fall into the tunnel that the Knights of 2,3, and 4 are digging if the ground he was standing on gave way. Both are possibilities.
