I felt that just opening with a ceremony would drag and people would lose interest
So I threw a dragon at everyone

You didn't need the opening ceremony, you could have sent the knights out to right wrongs on their own.

For me it wasn't so much about being thrown into things, that's a nice change of pace there from recent games I've had. Just that your character kinda seems to be at the forefront of all actual advancement without anyone else really getting to do much beyond playing in their own corner. The way things were going you might've well just started soloing the dragon while everyone else kinda hits a rock, if they even got to the rock, and that's not super fun.
