So uh, what is this fortress exactly, where is it, how did we get here? Are Izuru's and other three major forces already breaking through the actual entrances and into the fortress? Is that what the initial tunnel he heroically emerges from is? Or is it just some sort of underground tunnel into the underground lair this fortress lies on?

It would seem that while Izuru, Rinzler, Pentario, and Stigma siege the enemies fortress it is up to the other knights and the regiments they are leading to defend the land from the hoards of undead that were unleashed by Grigori. Considering that Grigori breaking free of his seal occurs right after the knight's inauguration its probably safe to say that knights 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 are defending the capital or the areas close to it.

I just assumed it was a big pitched battle around The Fortress of Doom with Prince and Friends going through the gates and everyone else doing whatever outside.

Maybe, I suppose you'll have to wait for DanGriin's answer. But then again the villains cant threaten anyone or take over the land if a dragon beats them to it. Could be a mutual enemy sort of situation I suppose.
