skineater (closed)

Ash stopped in his tracks, glowing green eyes wide as she spoke. His pupils and shrunk to the size of fine needle-points, breath heavy as anger rose in his chest. "Fine." He said harshly, appearing at the door. He had flung it open so quickly the bell barely made a noise, making an eerie feeling settle in the corners of the room. "Don't come crying to me when I'm right."

Then he was gone, barely even a whisper as he vanished.

Robyn watched him leave rolling her eyes when he said not to go crying to him when he was right. Oh don't worry I'd never go crying to you. She thought. But still the words hung in the back of her head. Even now as she stood outside her apartment building waiting for Wren she heard the words replay in her head. Stop being stupid everything is going to be fine She told herself. She tried to chalk the weird feeling up to nerves. It had been quite a while since she had been on a date it was completely understandable why she would be nervous. She just needed to get a hold of herself.

She checked her phone and 5:59 blinked across the screen. She almost felt worried that he might not show up. It was still early but she told herself she would wait fifteen minutes. If he didn't show up in that time then she was going back inside. She had practically sprinted home when she got off work. She showered, put on a black dress she almost never wore, and did her makeup and hair curling its around her face. Even after all that she still had half an hour to kill. Half an hour was more than enough time for her to start having doubts. Time enough for her to think back to her fight the other day, worry she was going to do something stupid and make a fool of herself. If he didn't get there soon she was almost sure she'd talk herself out of it.

The squealing of tires was heard rumbling down the block. A silver ford focus coming to a sharp halt in front of Robyn's apartment. The engine was kept running, a bright-faced male sliding out of the driver's side. Blue eyes almost glowed under the moonlight, Wren't dark hair making them pop.

"6:00 on the dot!" He exclaimed, his grin so wide you could burn an ant with the gleam. He was adorned in dark dress-pants, a blood-red dress shirt tucked neatly in the front, a thick belt clinging to his hips. He bore a black tie with a thick row of red stitches down the middle, his gaze falling along the girl's figure. "You look... wow." He breathed, holding out his hand to escort her to the passenger side.

Robyn watched as a car squealed to a stop in front of her. She took step back away from the curb as if afraid it might hit her. When Wren the came hopping out she smiled some of her nerves settling. His excitement made her laugh. "Very good I'm impressed" She grinned when he pointed out how he was right on time.

She let her eyes wander over him for a moment, glad she hadn't overdressed. "You look good too" She noted blushing a little when he complimented her on her looks. She took his hand and slid into the passenger seat crossing her legs and putting her hand in her lap while she waited for him to get in on the drivers side again. "So where are we going?" She asked curious as to what he had planned.

"You'll see." He said with a grin, sliding into the driver's side and shutting the door tightly. He leaned over her seat, grasping the belt and buckling her in, his face a few inches from hers. He'd held her gaze as he'd done this, running his fingers up the shoulder strap and brushing a soft curl away form her face. He then quickly buckled himself and turned towards the steering wheel, and they were off. "So other then hiding behind a wall of books, what's your favorite passtime?" He asked, taking a left turn and continuing down the highway.

She held back a gasp as he leaned over her buckling her in. Holding her breath, she stared at his face only a few inches from her with large blue eyes. The closeness made her flustered. "I could have done it myself you know..." She informed finally while he brushed her hair away. She felt almost like a child, and she wasn't sure weather to be flattered or upset by the action. Soon enough he was back on his own side of the car again making her feel much more comfortable."My favorite passtime?" She questioned thinking it over for a moment or two. "I don't know I'm really not that interesting. When I'm not at the bookstore or reading I guess I'm either watching movies or on the internet." She shrugged wishing she had something more exciting to tell him.

A nod made strands of black hair fall over his face, a blank stare etched along the road. "What about your favorite movie? I'm a fan of old-fashioned black-and-white monster flicks." He said with a small chuckle, entering an off-ramp that sent them into the outskirts of the city. He pressed play on his radio, long drawn out notes plaything harmony in the background. The works of Bach making the air about them calm.

She watched out the window as streetlights and buildings passed by in a blur. She was trying to figure out where they were going based on the direction they were heading, but all she could gather was they were heading out of the city. "Oh jeez! that's such a difficult question. I like so many I don't know how to chose" She frowned for a second but then glanced over at him when he said he like old monster films an eyebrow raising . "Hmm interesting. I like old movies too but I'm not so into the horror films. The effects are so bad I just can't take them seriously" She explained. "I do like Rosemary's Baby , but there's not really any monsters in that other than the baby is supposed to be the spawn of satan but they never show the baby"

A sigh fell from his lips. "I've never watched that." He glanced at her sideways, his lashes thick in the glow of the dashboard. "New monster-movies now-a-days portray the creatures as 'misunderstood' in a romanticized plot." His accent grew thick as he said this, the lights of other cars passing them becoming longer distances away, until finally there were barely enough cars on the road to consider it a street. He gazed out his rear-veiw mirror, as if this direction was a simple detour and he brought dates out here every night.

"It's good, you should see it." She said glancing back out the window now while he continued to speak. "Yeah I guess you're right. But that's what sells. People want a good romance not a horror story. Horror stories are too hard to connect to" She explained not really having an opinion on the matter. It was just how things were. As she saw them slowly get farther, and farther out of the city away from other people or landmarks she recognized she felt a little uneasy while she wondered where on earth he could be taking her.

"Hard to connect to?" He asked, his grin slowly fading from his face. The glint in his eyes had grown, making the hues glow in the darkness. "I don't think they're difficult to connect to." He said quietly. Suddenly they swerved off-road, smashing through a barbed wire fence. The sound of the metal raking against the car's hood caused the man to sneer. A pole flung up against the windshield, cracking the glass as they picked up speed down a steep hill. The trees were flying past them, branches snapping and whipping hard against the sides of the car. The thick underbrush and litter of trees seemed to become thick. Something slammed on the back of the car, a loud ripping and squealing as metal groaned over their heads. Suddenly the hood was crumbled, its face smashed in as a fire blazed over the scorching engine. The man had sliced her seat-belt off, his hands now gripping onto her neck as he kicked the driver's door open, making it break form its hinges and wrap around a nearby tree. The trunk must have been rotting, or his strength was far beyond that of a humans, because the tree the spare piece of car had collided with tumbled to the ground with a loud crash. He grasped her jugular with one hand, nails so sharp they threatened to pierce her skin. "I wanted to wait until after dinner, but I just couldn't resist." He spoke, his voice deep and sickening, the accent as thick as Ash's. His teeth had become a row of needle-fine bone-crushers, the tips biting into his lips, almost shredding his own skin. "Your eyes are so beautiful." He whispered into her ear, ripping her from the wreckage and slamming her body against another tree, making the bark splinter.

Her eyes left the road for half a second as she looked over at the man driving. She was about to say something but the sound of metal colliding with the hood stopped her and she looked back at the road just in time to see the fence being torn apart. "STOP! What are you doing!?" She yelled her hands gripping the seat as the car accelerated down a hill. She could see it all happening but there was nothing she could do to stop it. She closed her eyes half expecting them to slam into something killing them both. She didn't even have time to wonder how they had gotten so far off the road to begin with. She would have liked to think he somehow lost control of the car or swerved to avoid hitting a deer but something told her that was not the case. Her eyes flung open when the car came to a stop and she was still alive. But before she had time to react or make her mind up on what she should do her seat belt was being sliced off "What are- Stop it!" She began trying to push him away. The tight grip crushing her throat made her gasp and her attentions went to trying to break free. It was hard to even breathe and when he jerked her out of the car and shoved her into a tree the sound she made was nothing more than a pathetic cry.

The sweet and sensitive exterior of the man had faded quickly, his eyes now shining a bright blue, glowing in the pitch blackness. His tongue had grown exponentially in size, lawling out of his mouth and flicking across her cheek, his hot breath smelling of sulfur and blood. He gazed into her soft hues, the bright shine of her soul placing him in an almost haze. "You smell so good." He groaned, his other hand lingering over her chest, he extended one finger, the nail lightly trailing over her collar bone. He grasped her left strap in his finger, letting his razor-edged claw slice it, leaving her dress sagging slightly. His jaw cracked, the skin along the side of his face splitting as his maw opened wider then humanely possible.

His grip on her had suddenly vanished, his body being shoved out of the spot he'd been standing just less then a heartbeat earlier. A blur of green and white indicated something had shoved the man away form the human girl, causing him to collide with another tree, the impact cracking its foundation and toppling another gentle giant to the ground. The air cleared, and Wren lifted himself from the crater he'd created, his sagging skin making him look like a nightmarish creature. His eyes met flashing green hues, his reaction delayed only a second. Suddenly there was the gut-wrenching sound of ribs cracking, blood splashing over Ash's hand. His fist was plunged deep into the other Skineater's sternum, his hand grasping hold of a black beating organ. "Robyn, get away from the car." He growled, his teeth slowly retracting as he stared back at her, emerald hues glowing with anger.

The feeling of his slimy tongue made her cringe. Seeing him transform from the sweet excited boy into a monster shocked her. She couldn't help but notice his resemblance to the man from the other night. She had convinced herself she had only dreamed that part of the event. But seeing the transformation happen before her eyes for a second time she was beginning to accept that maybe this was reality. "Get off" She hissed her hands clutching at the one around her throat. Her legs flailed wildly trying to kick him away but her kicks seemed to have no effect. She felt panic swell up inside her chest. The feeling of his claws on her made her skin crawl. She felt helpless and vulnerable as one of the straps to her dress was snapped causing the top of her dress to fall asymmetrically exposing more of her skin. why does this keep happening to me? Was the universe trying to punish her for something? Or was she just stupid for making silly decisions that put herself in danger? How was she to know this would happen?

She felt certain she was going to die this time. She had managed to escape death last time but now it had come back determined to finish the job. She continued to kick at him. This time putting every ounce of energy and strength into it as a last stitch effort to break free. Suddenly he let go of her, his body being flung away from her. For a second she thought it was her doing but she soon realized that was not the case. Even if she put all her strength into it she had no where near the power it took to do that, and she definitely didn't have enough strength to knock a whole tree over. She slid down the tree, the bark scratching into her back as she gasped and panted trying to fill her lungs with air again. A hand went to her chest and her hair, which was now a matted mess, fell forward into her face. She had to look through it in order to see what was happening. Standing before her was the same pale green eyed man that had saved her before, come back to do it again Or perhaps he wasn't there to save her at all, but to finish her off for himself. She had no clue what either of the men were, but just from the way the dark haired man had been eyeing her made her feel like a piece of meat. It took her a moment to process everything but at soon as she had come to her senses and caught her breath she had taken off into a sprint running deeper into the woods away from the wreckage.

Satisfied with the fact that Robyn had finally summed up enough common sense to start running, Ash turned to the other skineater. His tongue was slithering between full pointed teeth, black blood spewing from his lips as the green-eyed male constricted his grip on what he believed to be the other's beating heart. A whimper escaped Wren's lips, the crushing burn of his insides causing him to yelp as he suffered. "You have five seconds to explain!" Ash hissed, his nails raking along the inside of the shorter man's chest, making a stream of hot liquid to be protruded into his face. H refused to flinch, animal eyes stuck opened as the creaking of the car's metal frame seemed to get louder. Violent.

"She-- is pure." He grunted before the smile on his cheek-less face had returned.

He didn't give the twisted mind even a breath to react, his hand jerking back. The hole in the other's chest began secreting gallons of dark water. The organ still squelching as it gasped for life. His mangled body fell to the forest floor, with just enough fight left in him to stare up at the brother who ended one of his own... for a human.

This all happened within a matter of seconds, the lightly ash-covered creature fleeing the scene as the engine gave way to the heat.

CRACK!

BANG!

The recoiling shock from the explosion shook Karma's ribs as he sped off, his heightened senses sending him on Robyn's trail. His chest tightened, the thought of what could become of the fragile girl making his blackened insides quiver. Soon something small and fast came into view, his breath releasing from fear's grip as he caught her in his arms burying his face in her hair before she could protest. He could feel something unknown well inside his stomach, allowing it to build as he held her. Suddenly he fell to the forest floor cradling her to his chest as sobs raked his lungs, tears that have never formed before, splashed down his cheeks. She was safe.

"Oh god." He whimpered pulling his face away from her hair and taking her cheeks in his palm. "Are you hurt? Are you okay?" He asked through blurry vision, black specs of blood littering his lightly tanned skin. For once his eyes resembled the epitome of concern, compassion, and sadness. Making the glowing hues almost seem...human.

Panting wildly Robyn ran. She had no idea where she was going or how far she had even gone she just needed to get away. The woods were a dark and tangled mass of trees. It was so dark underneath the canopy of leaves. She could hardly make anything out other than dark outline of tree trunks which she had to weave around. Leaves crackled underfoot and tree roots reached up catching her ankles making her stumble forward. Her heart was racing so fast and loud that it was the only sound pounding in her ears. Eventually she dared to look back afraid that one or both of them could be following her. As she did a fallen branch came into her path scraping against her legs and sending her tumbling down to the forest floor. She groaned as she made impact with the ground. She had caught herself landing on her hands and knees causing both to be caked in the damp dirt beneath her. She didn't even pause to check and make sure she was alright. In the next instant she was pushing herself up and running forward once again but now at a much slower pace. Hearing the loud bang of the explosion behind her she stopped for half a second her heart stopping as the ground rumbled under her feet . She almost felt worry as she wondered what happened to the two men, but that thought was quickly pushed away as she told herself that she needed to keep moving.

Suddenly she felt something wrap around her making her scream as she fought to get out of the hold. She didn't even look to see who it was nor did she care. She didn't trust anyone or anything. "Let go! Just leave me alone" Her voice cracked as she almost started crying from fear and frustration. It wasn't until she was brought to the ground the sound of quiet sobs reaching her that she stopped her fighting. Is he crying? Why is he crying. Confusion washed over her, appearing on her face. She kept her body rigid but other wise let him hold her the only sound she made was her heavy ragged breathing. At the feeling of him beginning to move she stiffened more, fear still gripping her. Seeing the familiar green eyes staring down at her she almost relaxed. "I'm okay." She sighed. She didn't understand why he seemed so concerned or worried about her. Why did he care? If he and Wren were the same thing, then why wasn't he trying to do the same as Wren had tried to do to her?

A breath of relief rushed from his lungs, permeating the cool air in a puff of false smoke. He blinked a few times, letting go of her face. The tears had left pale streaks down his face, the dirt that caked his washed away with his sudden bout of sadness. Ash fell back onto the ground, staring up at canopy as his breathing beginning to slow. "Have you ever killed a brother?" he asked her, his hallow chest feeling tight. He could feel the edges up his mind blur into focus, small shards of the past teasing him with pieces of knowledge. He felt the new feeling was over him, tears falling from the corners of his eyelids, sinking into his shaggy disheveled hair. "I can't remember what I am." he said with a hushed tone. "I don't want to be..."

I don't want to be him. I don't want to grow black inside.

Ash stared into the dark abyss above him, his glowing eyes tuning into the stars that hid themselves among the blackness. He cringed as the memory of dirt clotting his lungs flashed across his vision, making him turn his head to the side, his pupils growing small as the flames beyond the thick trees licked the sky. He questioned the whole world, and his own existence. Questioned the soft blue eyes that seemed so familiar. So far away. He didn't finish his sentence, allowing silence to roll over them.

Her mind was racing just trying to make sense of everything that was happening. Her eyes roamed over his face while he held her cheeks the blue color barely visible in the dark. She looked at him hard as if she was trying to look through him and figure out what was going on inside his head. Seeing the tears stain his cheeks she found herself feeling bad for him. Soon he had let her go and she was trying to shake the feeling away. She knew she shouldn't feel bad for him but for some reason she did. There was a soft rustling noise as she moved away from him, sitting back against a tree. Her eyes never leaving him. She seemed shocked by his question "No." She answered quickly her voice hoarse. She thought the answer would be obvious. Just then a breeze blew through shaking a few more leaves down and causing her to shiver. It was cold out and she was not wearing nearly enough to keep her warm. Goose bumps had risen all along her skin. She rubbed her hands up and down her arms trying to conjure up any warmth she could but it was ineffectual.

While he continued to speak her gaze traveled over his form but she stayed silent. She didn't know what to say. She didn't know any more than he did, if anything she knew less. She remained still as silence settled over them. The only sound came from the occasional breeze that came and lifted her hair, and the crackling sound of the fire that blazed on in the distance. "I want to go home" She almost whispered. It wasn't directed at him specifically but was more of a general statement to herself. She was cold and scared and she just wanted to be somewhere familiar. She wanted at least a little comfort.

In the screaming silence, Ash stared gently at the blond haired female, he took in her features, focusing only on her. Her presence kept him in a strangely calm state, the only sound between them being the air filling their lungs. He watched her eyes, her lips sending puffs of warm cloudy breaths into the chilled air, her skin fair and how delicious it would tasteโ€ฆ

He glanced away from her, his thoughts thankfully being cut off by the soft words that pierced the silence.

He sat up slowly, running his fingers through ashen locks. Staring at the hand that propped him up he said softly, "I can take you home."

Soft glowing green eyes met hers, his features full of something new. Something calm and almost sleep-like. It was the first time he'd been completely composed in her presence, as if he had a grip on himself long enough to make her the number one priority in his mind. His mind drew a blank, glossy-eyes tired. Ash stood, walking towards Robyn. He bent down an arms length away from her, stretching out a pale mud-caked hand towards her. He was slow, and gentle, as if she was made of porcelain and he was afraid to crack her foundation. "Please. Trust me." He pleaded softly, his gaze still locked with hers.

Robyn continues shivering the air only seeming to get colder and colder the longer they were out there. No matter how much she rubbed her arms or curled up she just couldn't get warm. So she eventually just gave up and let the cold seep into her skin. She was still coming down from the adrenaline that flooded her blood the minute she noticed the car veering off the road. Everything still seemed so strange to her but it was starting to feel a little more real as more time passed.

For a moment or two she let her head fall back against the tree, her eyes closing. But all the while she stayed acutely aware of the man laying only a few feet away from her. It was the sound of him moving that made her eyes shoot open to see what he was doing. When he then spoke she looked confused. For half a second she forgot that she had ever said anything, thinking she had only thought the words not said them out loud. Keeping still as he approached to offer her his hand she tilted her head up to look at him. Something about his gaze caught her and she felt unable to look away. Hesitantly she reached out with a shaky hand and slipped her hand into his. She still hadn't made up her mind whether or not she could fully trust him, but she figured if he wanted to kill her he would have done it by now. After pulling herself to her feet she realized she was still staring with her hand in his. She let go of his hand and forced herself to look away while her mind changed gears. "How are we going to get there? I have no idea where we are, except that we're miles outside of the city and the only car we had exploded taking my phone with it."

"Calm down" he said softly, keeping his hands in sight, knowing well the girl was probably more then a little skeptical of his motives. "I can do things you can't." He said again, reaching for her hand slowly. Ash let his fingers gently a few inches from hers, the space between their skin almost humming with energy. Just being close to her, smelling her skin, looking into her soul. It all felt like a dream, for once not a nightmare. "Do you trust me?" His breath came out softly along her face, his form inching close. He didn't want to frighten her, but the urge to be closer made his feet have a mind of their own. "You have to trust me."

(It's okay, don't worry about it)

She sucked in a deep breath when he told her to calm down. She felt she was as calm as she possibly could be given the circumstances. Was she really acting so irrationally? "Like what?" She asked him skeptical. obviously she had some understanding of the things he could do but they were not things she liked to think about. They also weren't things that she saw as being helpful in the current situation. They were the sort of things that made her want to scream and run in the other direction. Yet she didn't. She didn't move an inch, not even when he moved closer his hands nearing hers. Swallowing she looked from his hands to his face contemplating his question. The feeling of his breath against her skin sending tingles down her spine, every nerve in her body telling her to get away but still she stayed unmoving. "I- I don't know" She admitted her voice just above a whisper.
