This man is saluting while jumping out of an airplane. This is amazing.

@Valmont

Job interview are much, much more important! I look forward to seeing your response, I imagine it'll be a few more days, yeah? No biggie. Thanks for letting me know. : )

A true American. My bro nearly joined the army. I supported whatever decision he would've made. Parents and grandma on the other hand... Well, I said he nearly joined the army.

Ha! If I recall correctly, my mother's father served in the Army roundabouts WW2. My father, and I think his father as well, joined the Navy to circumvent the Vietnam draft.

But, that's about it for my family. We're mostly teachers and farmers.

My dad was a farmer, and my moms dad, my grandpa, was an airplane mechanic during... WW2? Crap, he told me so many times. I'm pretty sure it was WW2.

I forget the name of my dad's position, but he said that he worked on some sort of store ship out of the Mediterranean in the 60s/70s - all I remember is that they basically sailed around restocking other ships on food and supplies, and that his job was to dish out everyone's paychecks. Except his. He said he could pay the captain, but the captain had to turn around and pay him because he wasn't allowed to pay himself.

Oh, complicated chain of payments. The president gets paid, so who pays him? But then who pays that person, etc. etc.

I never had any family that served in the army, but my grandpa and great uncle were scientists in the Manhattan Project.

@Beowulf

Apparently you just need at least one guy higher than the paycheck man, lol.

@KiraInfinite

Suddenly so much of your terrifying bullshit makes sense.

"It is not possible to be a scientist unless you believe that the knowledge of the world, and the power which this thing gives, is a thing of intrinsic value to humanity and you are using it to help the spread of knowledge and are willing to take the consequences."

-J.P. Oppenheimer (not my grandpa)

I live by this quote

Except im not a chemist or physicist, im a Biologist... hence Birds and bison poop.

I like chemistry. There is just something about seeing what would happen if you put this element with that one.

I really like chemistry too, it's really interesting but Im so terrible at quantifying any of it when it comes to the numbers.

Do you think Arcana has alchemists? Like, we've been focusing on the spoken/written spells, but do you think there are alchemists and potion-brewers too?

There is a definite possobility. Perhaps the women that cannot use magic would turn towards alchemy and potions.

Potions are viable, I think - there are plants in Arcana that have some natural magical essence to them, and that's not particularly tied to any color of mana. Though, being plants, I suppose that would fall under Black and White mana, if they did happen to be color-specific.

Very likely. There would probably be a market in selling those plants as well. And what kind of plants would these plants be, like trees kr flowers? Also, would there be anything else that would have magical properties.

People making herbal remedies, we have those in our world too- we call them hippies.

It makes sense though, maybe different plants or ore's even (like crystals), could serve to effect mana of any color depending on the ingredients?

That and people making magical drugs. (Sign me up)

I guess various herbs, leaves, maybe the bark of special trees? Typical herbal remedy stuff, I haven't really thought about it all that much so I don't have any specific plants in mind.

Drakesteel, I think, must have some sort of innate magical property in itself to be able to repel magic, sooo... at the very least, we know there's something in a dragon's scales and bones that interrupts magic. There might be some metals that magic reacts differently to?

The crystals used to store mana are specially chosen for their affinity for storing magical energy in general, so perhaps Kira is right, and there are crystals that naturally appeal to one color or another.

What else... well... blood. Magic comes from the blood of the uterus, at least for humans. So, blood must be magical in some way. Maybe men's blood is magical too, but they just can't affect mana like women.

The Abyss, home of the Blight, is technically a canyon shrouded in a thick fog of rotten mana. That has properties too.

Vera: -wink wink-

I wonder if alongside those crystal gernades the fonts use that were mentioned in the mechanics, others carry potions they can throw that do similar effects, or even buffs for fighters?

YAY! LORE CREATION IN PROCESS!! I love doing this kind of stuff. So, here is my two cents. Blood does have magical properties, like you said. But, they are two sides to the coin. Red and Black or any of the combinations for men, and the other two for women. Give me a bit and I bet you I can come up with plants/ores/etc. in a but. I could even draft a friend to help me, he would love it I feel.

I think - don't quote me on this yet because I don't like to declare shit canon until it's actually written down For Real - that you could probably use men's blood in less important sacrificial rituals.

.... And yes there are sacrificial rituals, I bet there are like, backwoods tribes of indigenous witches far from Arcana who still practice bloodletting and shit.

BLOODLETTING AND SACRIFICE OH SHIT YOU KNOW IM DOWN FOR THAT SHIT

Also Welian if that's true about older tribes doing said things, do they have the same issues with the blight as Sylva does/do they deal with it in a different way?
