Romance + Fun

He caught me looking at him and grinned, then quickly turned away. I blushed deeply and looked at my desk, the words people had scratched into it, anywhere but his face. I combed my hair back with my fingers and tried to listen to the teach talk.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see her brushing her hair back. Was that a sign of some sort? Girls were always so subtle about things. Nah, couldn't be. Not for a guy like me. She probably just had an itch or something. She was probably looking at a guy sitting next to me or something.

Looking over, I noticed that I was the only guy in the row. Maybe a friend? Yeah, that was probably it. Now the friend probably thinks you're weird to, great. Just forget about it. Keep learning.

The teacher began explaining the transfer of potential energy through one's body in order to utilize more power. This was the most basic principle of Energy Transfer. It had a special name that was even known by those outside of the academy. It was known as Chi. This was old news for Me, and didn't help keeping my mind off the girl. The end took forever to come. But finally the teacher dismissed us.

With a relieved smile, I put my hands over my eyes and sighed. That way he wouldn't be embarrassed when she slipped past him to get out of there. In a few seconds, no one would be sitting next to him.

When the teacher dismissed the class I stood and grabbed my bag. The guy next to me was covering his eyes with his hand. After standing there until half the class had left, I leaned down and whispered, smiling,

"Hey, is the teacher really so ugly you can't stand to look at him anymore?"

I was about to open my eyes when I heard the girl's voice in my head. Man, I must be losing it. But then the hair on my neck stood straight up as if caught committing a crime. The voice hadn't come from my head. I threw my hands up in the air, pretending just to be messing around. My face was probably beat red. The momentum from my hand movement slipped me off the seat of my desk and sent me tumbling to the floor. "Ow."

"Are you okay?" I asked with a smile. Just a little one, looking at down him sprawled out on the floor.

I stood up, rubbing my back. The fall wasn't so bad, it had just bruised my pride. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just didn't expect you to still be here is all. I mean, not that I didn't want you too, it's just…"

Shit, you're really making it worse! "Nevermind. So you coming or not?"

"Yeah. Lead the way Casanova." I figured that would make him blush again, but it wouldn't kill him. Plus it's cute when guys blush.

I started walking out of the classroom as she spoke, but when she called me Casanova, I couldn't move. I looked back, blushing a little. "J-just call me Mac. Hah, where'd you get the idea of calling me that?"

I looked away, trying not to think about it as I lead my new friend to one of the schools all-purpose training rooms. There were some other students in the first one, so we had to go a little further down the hall to the second one.
"Have you ever tried these rooms out before? They're pretty neat."

"Okay, Mac. And I just found that word up in my brain somewhere," I said and smiled, as we walked down the hall.

"No, I've never been in these rooms," I said.

"Oh man, you'll really love it. The rooms are constructed out of a sort of rubbery material designed to absorb excess energy output. That way if I misjudge something and create a huge explosion, the walls will basically suck it up before it can bounce back and hurt someone. Here, I'll show you."

I went into a proper transference stance, one of perfect relaxation. Then I held my hand out and coursed the potential energy of my body to my fingertips. Then, opening my mind to the whole of the outer universe and connecting with the outer energy, I formed a line of potential energy. I wasn't experienced by any means, so a few molecules of energy sparked off as I was gathering it. Finally, I used activated a charge to attract all the proper elements while simultaneously releasing the energy from my hand. This sent a huge spark down the line of potential energy which resulted in a huge fire explosion where I had extracted the right elements. The explosion flew to the walls and suddenly vanished. A few extra sparks tried to climb along the wall, but they soon disappeared.

"See? Like that."

"Wow, that was, that was cool!" I exclaimed, watching the fire disappear. "Let me try that. What elements did you use?" I walked over to where Mac was standing and started calming myself.

"Well, there's probably an official way to do that. But I just make it up as I go. Basically I try to isolate flammable elements and isotopes like methane and such." I stepped back, watching Arlandria in her relaxed stance. I found my eyes starting to trace down the curves of her back, but quickly caught myself. I blushed a little, then looked into the room, waiting for the show.

"Got it." I took a few more breaths and started charging my hand, lots of little sparks flying off. When it was charged enough I threw the energy at the wall in a burst of...blue...flame? The explosion was bigger than I thought, but the blue tone was completely unexpected.

"Um...would you happen to know which element or chemical would make the flames turn blue?" I asked quizicly. "I must have added something extra by accident."

My eyes were wide. She had already achieved that much without ever trying it before? "Wow. Well, normal flame turns blue sometimes. That just means that you're really hot… uh, I mean, your transference held a lot of heat energy."

I blushed a little and tried to think of some other explanations quickly.
"Or… or, or maybe you created a metal isotope somehow to make copper chloride or something. Or maybe there was alcohol in the air… I doubt it. Um hahah. That's all I got.

"Hmm..." I ignored his accidental 'Your really hot!' comment. Unless he did say it on porpose...no, he's adorable, not cunning...right?

I couldn't tell if she was concerned or disappointed by what I had said. I hadn't phrased it like that on purpose… right? Well, maybe it was some subconscious thing that made me say it the way I did. But still. I couldn't keep my mind off it until my tongue slipped again, "I mean, I wasn't saying that you weren't hot… I mean, beautiful… er. That's just not what I was trying to say. Well, it's not like it matters because it was the truth anyway… I mean, the explanation."

I was just making things worse and starting to blush again.

"You don't have to appologise," I told him, smiling reassuringly. "If you think I'm pretty, why wouldn't I want to hear it?"

I stared at the girl, wide eyed and blushing. "I-I… well, whatever. Yeah you're pretty. What does that matter?" I said, trying to blow it off for some odd reason.

"It shouldn't matter," I said to him, "But since it does in this world, it's a nice thing to hear. I think you're cute. See? It feels good to hear it doesn't it?" I blushed, just hopeing that he knew I was serious, that I really did think he was cute.

(I'll be back in about 1/2 an hour, okay?♥)

I looked at the girl out of the corner of my eye to see if she was snickering. She couldn't be serious. Was she? The face she was making was really cute and innocent. "Y-yeah. Well, when somebody means it at least."

(Alright. I actually have to go to work now. But it's a mid shift, so I won't be out super late.)

(Okay♥)

I stared at him a minute. "You don't believe me, do you? Why? All pretty girls aren't snobs, you know." I was seriously thinking of walking out and going back to my dorm until next class. I hate it when guys think I'm shallow, just because I'm kind of pretty.

I threw my hands up defensively. "No no, I didn't mean that at all! Y-you've been really nice to me. It's just that I thought you might just be saying it to make me feel good. Because… well, nobody's ever said that about me before." I look to the floor, a little ashamed of opening up so much to a girl.

I paused. "Realy? Nobody's ever told you you're cute? I didn't know, I'm sorry," I touched his arm lightly, and then I smiled. "Someone should have, a long time ago."

I looked into the girl's beautiful eyes. To me they seemed to be a hazel, holding the colors of the rainbow. When she touched my arm, he felt goosebumps run up it. Even so, I felt warm as my heart pumped twice as fast as normal. Whether this was just a ploy to use me, or a legitimate thing, it had worked. Though she didn't know it, she had now obtained a personal body guard. I wasn't about to let anyone as nice and beautiful as her get hurt.

After a moment of silence, I flung my arms around her and whispered,
"Thank you."

"You deserve to hear it. It has nothing to do with me." I wrapped my arms around him tentitively.
