Realistic or Modern Rockwell Academy

"Oooh, a bad girl, eh? What did you do, ride after hours?" He teased her gently, knowing that he had been fired from jobs for worse reasons. "Hey, if there's one thing I know about, it's muscle groups. I didn't know riding's such an intense workout, though. That's pretty cool." As Margo pet the horse, a sudden ripple of sunlight burst through the sky, glinting off of her shiny hair and illuminating her face. "Wait... that's a great shot. Stay right there." He whipped out his camera and quickly snapped a shot of her. "Nice. I'll send you the picture if you want. You could make the cover of an equestrian magazine."

Margo snorted and blushed, and the horse nudged her face, no doubt looking for a treat. She tugged his forelock playfully before stepping back. "You could say that riding after hours was the reason I was fired, I guess." she smirked, trying nor to laugh too hard at a joke no one else would understand. "Why do you take pictures? Are you a photographer? I like to draw, myself. My room is scattered with my drawings." she said with a grin. "I have an eclectic set of interests."

Trenton hesitated. He wasn't sure of whether to reveal his secret hobby to this girl he had only just met. However, she seemed nice enough, and if he was going to make and keep friends here, he might as well be honest.

"Well, I draw too. I take them because when I can't be outside and drawing things, I like the reference material. Helps me practice the basics. I uh, mostly do my own designs though. I'd like to be a tattoo artist someday." It was the first time he had said that aloud to someone, and the words felt good coming out, but they also tasted bitter, knowing that it would probably never happen. Uncomfortable, he decided to switch up the subject. "Eclectic interests, huh? How eclectic are we talking?

"A tattoo artist? That's awesome. My aunt was a tattoo artist. She actually designed the one I have." Margo said, a sad smile escaping her lips in memory of the Aunt she was named after. It was a sad story, and not one she often allowed herself to get into. "Well, I don't know. There's a lot to me. One minute I'm riding a horse, the next I'm playing a ukulele and smoking a cigar. I like to draw, but I enjoy acting too. I want to be a teacher, and I think theater in the classroom is a great new teaching strategy. I write a lot, mostly short stories. There isn't much that honestly hasn't caught my attention at some point or another. I mean, I'm even bi." she laughed. "I just like it all. There's so much to do, all the time. I'll try it all at least once." she grinned. "What about you? You seem like the deep, secretive brooding type with a soft side you don't like to show." Margo smirked, teasingly. She leaned against a nearby fence and watched as Julia walked around, bringing out different horses.

"Wow. Well, diversity in interests is definitely something good." He laughed at Margo's frank assessment of him. "To be fair, that's a little accurate. I guess I'm kind of the football jock type, but I'm into art as well. Two opposite colliding, or some shit like that. If I find out a soft, squishy side, I'll let you know. As for deep, I think the only deep thing I ever came up with was realizing that metal music is called metal music because it's harder than rock." He shrugged with a half smile on his lips. "I guess we are our stereotypes." He remarked, remembering something an old teacher told him. He hopped up on the top of the fence, letting his feet, encased in heavy leather boots, swing down. "So, how do you know other people here? I won't lie, I feel a little late coming to the party, not really knowing anyone."

@Ryia

"Yup, fresh out of Grade 10. So you sing? That's impressive. I always say effort is all that matters, but I don't think all the effort in the world would fix MY singing voice...If you Played & Sang right next to the court I wouldn't mind at all". The world really was filled with waaay too many things to accomplish. Too many sports, too many music genres, too many literary and culinary fields. But he had already chosen the one thing he'd do better above the rest, so there wasn't much point in contemplating what-ifs.

"Have you ever performed in public, Kenzie? Or is this a garage-shootout type of thing?"

"Oh I don't. Not really. I only know as many people as you do." Margo shrugged, thinking about his colliding natures. Makes sense. "I met that Kenzie girl first. Cute brunette. Really long hair, the one that didn't seem a little crazy." Margo grinned. "Kenzie was nice though, really chill." Margo shrugged. "Then Celina sort of met me, thought I was checking out some guy she liked or something. Then she sort of challenged me to try and steal her lead in the school play. Well, not really. But I took it as a challenge." Margo laughed, watching him swing down with a grin. She liked him, he was cool. And kinda hot, to boot.

Mackenzie offered a shy smile when he mentioned playing around him, the first hint of shyness she's given all day. She is typically a very outgoing girl, except for when it comes to her music. She has never performed in public at all, in fact most people don't even know she sings. The only reason so many know she plays guitar is because she has her two on display in her dorm.

"No, no, I've never performed in public. Honestly, most people don't even know I sing." She looked over to him, rubbing the back of her neck. "It's really just something I pursue personally, just because I love music so much. I'm not amazing." A quiet laugh to herself ended her sentence. It seemed that Locke had just stumbled upon the only thing that Kenzie isn't confident about herself in.

Locke shook his head. "Anyone who practices only because of their passion, and not because they have something to get out of it...aren't they already amazing? ...Well, it'd just be nice to see the result of it. If you ever change your mind let me know, I won't kidnap you and force you to sing." He let out a small grin. Kenzie wouldn't know, but his family had once -demanded- to see him in action during a meetup. The pressure made him play so bad he was deemed as overhyped. Of course, when he destroyed their next match alongside his team, they took it all back.

"If anything, you'll always sing better than I do. Which, I suppose, is a start."

"Yeah, I was wondering what was happening there. She's certainly.... um, exuberant is a good word. Guess both of us will have to get to know everyone a little better first." He jumped back down. "So, a challenge, huh? Well, if there's only one good piece of advice I got from my 'rents, it's to never back down when someone issues you a challenge. Better to try and fail than to never try at all, right?" He glanced over at the horses. "What play is it? Do you know? Hey, maybe they'll need some one for set design. ..Well, if it doesn't conflict with football, I guess." He winced at that last sentence. God, he sounded like such a musclehead.

Margo shrugged. "Beats me, but I've looked at their past plays that they've done, and they're all amazing. Set design is awesome. I would do costume myself if I didn't get a part. Though I would really like to, if only to see Celina's face when I show up for rehearsals." Margo smiled. "Football isn't bad. Maybe I'll watch you sometime. It is a lot warmer here than it is in New England this time of year." she nodded as a different horse came out built like a brick house and nudged her head. "Ah!" she yelped, then laughed as he tried to eat her hair. "You're gross." she told the horse, entangling her hair from his teeth. "I already want to buzz my head, don't tempt me further." she said, holding his head in her hands then knocking her forehead against his nose.

She thought about it some, and finally nodded. "I'll get back to you on that. If you let me know when you're practicing, who knows?" She shot a grin his way. "Maybe I'll just happen to be in the mood to make a debut." She enjoyed talking to Locke. Unfortunately for her, the male dorms were quickly approaching.

"So, that's the male dorm wing, or the Rockwell House. That's where your room will be, but I can take you to the door of your room if you'd like." It was really just to get a few last words with Locke in, Kenzie knew that finding his door would be simple, even for someone brand new.

"That would be nice, thanks for the offer, Kenzie. I practice every day, really. As soon as I'm used to my classes schedule I'll become a ghost haunting that court." Locke shrugged. It WAS true, he always felt this...itch that needed to be scratched, the desire to play.

But not thinking about it for the moment, the dorms were impressive! Er...were they? He had never been in dorms before, at all. Still, they looked cozy enough that he'd be able to enjoy.

"Hope the beds are as good as the dorms look. This place is really quite the eye candy."

"The dorms are pretty nice. I'm fine in them, at least."

After walking through a set of doors, the room numbers on either side of the pair came into view. Kenzie knew where she was going, and as such the numbers were already close to where they needed to be. The first number that could be seen was 182. "It should be just down this hall." The numbers grew larger as she walked forward still. 185. 189. 192. 195. Finally, she stopped in front of one of the single's rooms near the end of the hall. "197, right?"

Locke nodded. "That's mine, alright." Locke unlocked the door, and barged his bags inside before heading out to address Kenzie.

"I know I said it before...but thanks again. I'm sure I'll sleep better now than if I hadn't known you. Let's talk some more today, if you'd like?" Locke stretched out his hand to her. Was it too formal...? In any case, he wasn't the type to kiss others on the cheek, much less people he had just met. He thought, at that moment, that perhaps he was the opposite of Celica in that regard.

She looked down at his extended hand and thought about it for a moment. After a brief silence, she laughed quietly to herself and wrapped her arms around Locke, pulling him into a friendly embrace. The hug lasted only a few seconds, and once she pulled away she gave the boy a happy smile. "Don't be too shy, none of us here bite."

She pulled out her phone and opened the contact section, created a new contact, and passed it to Locke. "So we can stay in contact." She explained, letting her smile shift into a more shy one than a confident one.

Locke chuckled as he took her phone and dialed in his contact info. Locke Anderson. No need for silly nicknames, or at least he hoped so. He gave back the phone right away.

"Oh, don't get me wrong...it's just a formality. Can't be shy around you if I ask you to sing, now can I? Give me a call when you're leaving for the meet-up. If I'm not up it'll really help! I'll add you then, too. So...I'll see you later, then."

She nodded. "You can count on it. Bye!" Again, her small, subtle wave was the last thing she offered before turning to walk off, still smiling. She liked Locke a lot, he seemed down to Earth and even shared some of her own ideals. He was a friend that Kenzie would try to get closer to for sure. She started to walk out of the male dorms, but got caught up in a conversation with another of her friends before she actually left the building.

(OOC: The more detailed horse stuff is totally skip-able if you're having trouble following, sorry!)

Margo and Julia had discussed horses all the way down to the stable with Trent quietly oblivious to what was going on. Julia had admitted that she does a little bit of everything, but that polo was the only sport she had ever competed in, despite taking lessons in everything from barrel racing to eventing.

Julia had wandered off from Trent and Margo when they reached the barn. She scouted around the barnyard to see all of the horses, looking for one special one in particular amidst the many bays and blacks. She finally wandered into the barn, after giving up hope up that she would find Mischief in the pastures. "There you are Chief." She grinned, reaching over the stall door to give her big Palomino thoroughbred a hug. He nickered to her contently. When she let go of his neck Chief shook his head to get rid of some flies. "Oh stop trying to make me feel bad, you had a great summer without me riding, and you know it!" she said patting his neck. She slipped Chief's leather halter off of its hook on the stall door and buckled it on him. A small plate on his cheek read Mischief Managed, an ode to her twelve year old self's Harry Potter obsession. Julia buckled a lead to his halter and pulled the bolt open and slid the door to let him walk out. She lead Chief down the barn aisle out to the barnyard, where Margo and Trent were standing.

"Come here guys!" She yelled with a wave "I want you to meet the best looking and most athletic boy on campus." she winked, patting Chief's neck again and admiring the fine work the grooms had done with him over the summer, he was in great shape and immaculately clean.

Nathan turned around to see Celina Fray standing behind him, and she quickly grabbed a seat next to him. "Hi there," he said with an easy smile. "It has been a long time, summer and living on opposite sides of the country and all." he winked, slightly mocking her obvious statement. "How's life been treating you?" he asked casually.

Trenton laughed at the big horse trying to nibble Margo's hair. "I hear ya. I had a period where I grew my hair out pretty long- I looked like such a weirdo, it didn't suit me at all. I only did it to piss off my dad, anyway." He looked up and saw Julia waving them over. "Hey, I think she wants us to check it out. C'mon." He hopped over the fence and, easily leaning over the wooden poles, hoisted Margo up and over the fence, setting her down on her feet. "Beats trying to clamber over them, am I right? And it's weight training for me, too." He walked over to Julia's horse, seeing how well built he was. "Damn, he'd definitely beat me in a race, that's for sure. How're you doing, bud?" He gave the horses nose a soft pat.

Margo laughed when he picked her up and nodded. "Suits me just fine. I'm not really dressed for fence climbing anyway. That stuff has its own drawer." she said with a chuckle while gesturing at her skirt and flats. She didn't seem the least bit grossed out though as she crossed the horse poop riddled paddock to Julia and she grinned. "God, he's gorgeous." Margo said, tracing her fingers from his forelock, down his muscled neck, across his barrel, over his haunches and along the other side. "A real champion. Is he yours? I didn't know you could keep your own horses here. Not that I could afford to have a horse anyway." Margo said, still eyeing the horse. "Can I hop on him? I'm wearing a skirt, but I was always good at side saddle." Margo asked. "Plus I bet they have some knee high boots in there somewhere, would help with the saddle chaffing." Margo grinned. "He's massive." she said again. "And definitely handsome. I bet he's awesome at polo." Margo grinned.

"I bet you think you're so funny." Celina said, rolling her eyes, then relenting and smiling. "Good, I spent most of it in the Hamptons with my mom. How about you?" she asked him, picking at her chicken Cesar salad. "Have you met any of the newbies yet?" she asked him

Julia grinned, she might not get too worked up when people complimented or dissed her own appearance, but she definitely loved when people complimented her on her horse. "Meet 'Chief', known more descriptively as 'Mischief Managed, yes, he's mine! I've had him since 7th grade, bought him as a yearling. My instructor hated that I bought a palomino to join the junior polo team, because you don't see anything but chesnuts, bays, blacks and the occasional gray." she laughed, but sounded very proud of her horse. "I've boarded him on campus since I started at Rockwell in grade nine, but I used to take him home to a polo barn in Albany in the summer. I knew I was going to be too busy this summer with hockey to compete though, and Chief here gets bored easily, so he was on a lesson and show lease to Rockwell for their summer kids camps'." she explained. "And Yes, Trent, he could definitely beat you in a race." she laughed.

"You can hop on bareback if you'd like, but fair warning, his name is Mischief for a reason." Julia said warningly when Margo asked to ride. "Let's go to the arena and I'll grab his bridle on the way." she said. As if to prove her point, Chief nuzzled at her back and left a sticky green slobber mark on her shoulder. "Thanks boy," she grumbled "This was a perfectly nice dry-fit shirt." she rolled her eyes and clicked to him to walk forward.

Julia grabbed a simple snaffle bridle from the tack room pausing to give Margo and Trent a brief tour, before leading the way to the arena.
Nathan grinned. Typical Celina, he thought. "Summer was awesome. I went swimming, surfing and sailing just about everyday, can't ya tell from my sick tan?" he said jokingly. "I lifeguarded at one of the San Diego area beaches, there was always a nice view and saving the occasional drowning person was fun. My parents and I also went sailing for two weeks along the coast. Overall, a pretty great vacation. The Hamptons, now that's one place I've never been and should probably visit, the surfing is supposed to be great." he mused.

"No, not really. I've been at the school since Monday, so I missed the typical impromptu meet and greets in the commons. I walked down to the lake in the morning for a swim and I've been camped out in my room watching Netflix, to avoid the chaos, since." he explained.

Trenton hung back as he watched the girls saddle up Chief. He wondered briefly if he should try and check out the rest of campus when he was done hanging out with them, maybe try to meet some new people. "So, what other stuff do you guys do around here? Besides riding horses, I mean. What's this place got to offer?"

Margo grinned, threw on some spare boots she found and hopped on chief, side saddle and bareback, a difficult feat indeed. She laughed, enjoying his big gait. "Toss me a helmet!" she said, then grabbed one that one of them had tossed at her. She strapped it on and took off at a sitting trot, laughing the whole way. She had been having withdrawal, she needed this. "God he's fun!" she laughed, then thought screw it and sat on him regularly. who cared if anyone saw her damn panties? She set the reigns down and steered him using only her legs, then trotted him over a ground pole, and cantered him to a cross bar. She was flushed when she finally pulled him over to Julia and Trent, her cheeks red and her eyes and smile beaming. "Beautiful, beautiful boy. Horses like this make me realize that I will never fall in love with a human." she laughed, then Chief bucked a little bit, anxious to get back to the work out. She got him back down using only her legs, no problem and grinned. "I love him."

Celina grinned. "That's awesome. Well there are some interesting newbies. A girl, cute if you're into poor hippies, and some boys I would just like to eat up." Celina said with a wink. "Though none more than you Nate, don't worry, no need to be jealous." she smirked.

Julia thought about Trent's question. "I guess there's really a million things to do around here... depending on what you're interested in." she shrugged, knowing that she could suggest a hundred different things but none of them be of interest to him. Julia was friendly with everyone and Trent seemed nice enough, but tattoos and drugs were not her style and so she didn't know what else he might be interested in.

"There's usually a clubs fair in one of the gyms all weekend that you could check out. There are quite a few different clubs, and recreational sports teams. Hmm.. let's see, there's a debate club, scholastic decathlon team, trivia team, band, dance teams, theatre, an artists society, an outdoors club, future business/med/ vet / law clubs- there are more that's all I can think of at the moment. There are also some cool intramurals like capture the flag in the forest, dodgeball and what not, things you wouldn't expect to be considered sports."

Margo returned with Chief and Julia grinned at her comment about not falling in love with humans. "Hey Chief, don't do that." she scolded gently at his buck and was relieved when Margo kept her seat. "You're welcome to come down and ride with me after hours, by the way, is one of your classes riding?" she asked. "There's also competitive riding teams, if you're interested in a challenge. I'll be trying back out for the polo team."

"A hippy? Now that's pretty awesome." Nathan grinned, ignoring the snide remark about economic status. "You don't get too many Type B's at Rockwell, what is this girl's name? I must meet her!" he said, taking another bite of his pizza. "Oh good then, you had me worried for a sec." he said giving her an amused smirk.
