Dice Rifts Japan - OOC Thread

There is a very real threat out there in the form of monsters that the Republic has only limited knowledge of. That is where you come in as a special investigative and response force to try and bring your knowledge on how to track down and stop the monsters from running amok in the city.
Track down and stop the monsters from running amok in the city?! You mean Hiroshima has been infiltrated by monsters? Or is under threat to be? No wonder!

So it is clearly to our advantage to have characters well-versed in monster hunting/Demon Quelling if you will. Ah... How I wish there were other O.C.C.s beside Demon Queller that provided these avenues. (I am trying to hold back from Demon Queller because in my games, it's been done so many times, I'm afraid I'll get bored with it. I am also unreasonably miffed at the Spirit Host P.C.C. because the Snake not only lacks a prowl ability (it slithers! That's natural prowl to a footed-person like me!) and... it lacks a bite attack? What is a snake with no venom if you're not watching Kung Fu Panda?! Urrgh! Ha ha! =)

Still, this info helps, so thanks for it, Bud! =)

These questions, while great and thought out, are making me start to reconsider the premise that you are a government team. There are several holes here that I'm trying to fill and as I do, more pop up. I still want to do this game.

What do you guys think? How do you think we should proceed? Instead of a government agency, you could be employed by one of the mega corporations. That's one option. Another is that you are simply mercenaries of some sort, looking for your next paycheck.

I like the government agency approach because I feel we are serving not one "nation" and its people, but two. If we're just a bunch of mercs employed by a mega-corporation, well... that leaves bad Cyberpunk vibes in my mouth (because who wants to sell out to a mega-corporation after playing Cyberpunk?). Also, I do not like the idea of mercs scrounging from job to job, not unless everyone is on-board for that.

I don't want to lose the gritty, high-tech Ghost in the Shell edge here. If anything, I want the setting to be something I can relate to in a big way.
I can completely relate to a Republic of Japan asking for the New Empire's aid in monster/demon related problems! Hiroshima has only been around in Rifts for a tiny bit compared with the New Empire that are literally born out of the post-Cataclysm ashes of Rifts! In Japan, who would know better than the New Empire than how to fight monsters? But nor do I want to play in the New Empire as a base of operations because of the blasted caste system where women are basically chattel, arranged marriages are the thing, and if you're a commoner and don't bow to the samurai fast enough, they decapitate you!

But I digress. Sherwood Sherwood What holes are you seeing that you think require filling? Can I help? Because from my perspective, you already have a strong foundation here - it just could use a few tweaks here and there.

Psychie? What's your take on whether or not we're a Section 6-style government operation or something else?

Edit: I get that you're flexible; but do you have any preference?

I like the idea that I'm a chosen escort for the new Millennium Tree for Hiroshima, and if something were to happen to it, I would be honor bound to do something about it.

Working with government aides to make that happen is fine with me. As an outsider, Blake would have tons of questions, so a local guide would a must

Perhaps I misread your questions as not so much interest in a new game, but as concerns and issues of a negative sort. I do like the government team idea, and I've been working on settings and npcs for that.

Thanks for explaining your thoughts and clearing up my own concerns.

*Echoes Psychie*

My only concerns and issues fall with the writing of the Palladium rules (and my love for Palladium as a whole far outweighs any of those)!

Please don't take my questions as criticism, but instead as raw honestly. I am one of the most curiosity-driven people I know. I genuinely want to know what I ask. So when I ask questions like, "Where would you like help?" I mean that for your benefit! =) (If I cannot support my Game Master, why on Earth am I playing a game they're running?) So yeah. Curiosity, not criticism! =)

I ask these things because I feel the better understanding I have of a game, the more fun I'll have playing it. =)

Like I said, thank you.

I keep running movies and anime in my head, like Blade Runner, Bubblegum Crisis, and GitS, and I am getting really hyped for this setting.

Eonivar Eonivar Hey Eon? I have to ask - if Oda is a detective, why play the Police Officer O.C.C. in Rifts Japan when instead you could play a Free Agent from Ninjas & Superspies? I think with a little bit of GM help, you could play a guy who is far more skilled? Plus, there are details to work out his own agency if you and Sherwood are up for that.

The question of Action Points Came up a while ago, and I just remembered it. Yes, we'll use them. I'll add that to the character thread.

I am also thinking that Eon is in need of some natural MDC to keep him from being too squishy. Perhaps a symbiote like what Silanon had in the other Rifts game.

In the Republic of Japan? Oh man! Wow. =)

It could be the reason he was picked to work with you magic types.

Oh crap. It might not. I'll have to look at the books. I might have to come up with something else
