GunMan2 GunMan2 Just so you know, this Ughloid with his Slave Babes is Dreamy's worst nightmare. In our party's history, these are the jerks that enslaved our party in Atlantis until we broke free. Dreamy used to be one of those Slave Babes. Now her past is suddenly catching up to her with such surprising speed that she's... going to take their very presence rather badly.

So... uh... forgive Dreamy if she doesn't exactly have her head in the game, all right? This whole scene is going to hit her like a ton of bricks. Mega-damage bricks if you get me. =)

I hope to post tomorrow sometime. =)

Here's a song to cheer anyone back up after that last dark post of mine.

Don't get me wrong; it was a challenge to write it but it's fun to get that deep into a character's head, right? Psychie has stated that this is going to be a reoccurring thing, the Splugorth running around in our game.

Don't tell Dreamy. Or I'll have to change characters! Ha ha! 8D

Oh, and thanks for the Well-written! That was no easy post! 8D

Quick question. Would Raven know enough of the Slaver barge to know if I would be able to use my barrier rifle on one of the Warrior Women and at least temporarily take her out of the fight through the force field of the barge?

That's a neat question! I just went to the entire Palladium Combat Rules page and I have found nothing to suggest one way or the other.

Is there some rule somewhere that says the Splugoth's Slave Barge force fields do not block energy attacks? Because if it blocks lasers, ion beams, particle cannons, and the like, then why should it be suddenly useless against a barrier rifle?

Is there something in the barrier rifle's description that states that it freely penetrates force fields?

If the answer to both questions is "no" then, isn't that the whole purpose of a force field? To keep bad stuff out and protect what's inside?

I will say that the force field protects the passengers on the barge until it is knocked down, and the passengers are only vulnerable to be targeted at that point before the shield can reform on the next melee round. Raven world know this from his time in the Splurgoth slave pens.

Ok. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be using player knowledge here.

The Slaver snarls out, "Leave the dross, or kill them. Our instructions only call for the traitor to be captured; the rest are expendable."
Oh crud! I was hoping this wouldn't come to light. This complicates things big time.

several of the rail guns manage to connect with it and drop the force field.
How many rail guns are we talking about here and from what kind of cover are they being fired from (not that Dreamy is in a state to notice)?

the dice roll you asked for was a 14 on the die
Whew. Thanks.

There are at least four shooters that you can hear.

Psychie Psychie Hey, lady! I just want to be upfront about what's going on now in Dreamy's head (because if I were running a game like this, I'd want to know, so I figured... well, you know).

With the Splugorth saying they are specifically here for Dreamy, this sudden Slave Barge ambush is bordering on Dreamy's worst nightmare. Her first reaction is to run over to her robot unicorn, yell a tearful farewell, and gallop away from the party as quickly as possible to draw the Splugorth away from everyone she cares about. Talk about Hell.

Is it smart or wise? No. Yet if I am to play her truly, that's precisely what she's most likely to do - sacrifice herself so her friends don't get captured/blown away.

To say she's not in her right mind is an understatement. Dreamy's despair is turning into panic. She thinks she is endangering everyone (even though the Splugorth said they are here specifically for her). She's in my head wondering if the Splugorth have placed some kind of bio-tracker inside of her (maybe inside Lumpy? They're the ones that performed the surgery after all. Growing paranoia, anyone?). There's more, but I bet you catch my drift.

You mentioned that the Splugorth are meant as a reoccurring menace. I'm thinking that even if they drive this barge away/destroy it), that won't change Dreamy's mind. If she understands that they'll be back (and the Splugorth don't give up easily), then I don't know when she will be happy again. Having new allies show up (if indeed that's what they are) kind of worsens the situation (more people that might get caught in the crossfire).

I doubt that this is your goal as a Game Master. However, I'll be the first to not blame anybody and chalk this up to "stuff happens."

I am slowly nearing the state of asking you if I should have a change of characters? This situation is also kind of bumming me out - Dreamy's an emotional character and all of my PCs are in my head at one time or another. Do you have any advice?

I feel as if I have made a huge mistake with this encounter, and right now, I'm not sure as to how to fix it. As a more experienced Storyteller, I would normally ask you how to resolve this. I just don't know what to do to make this right.

There is the nuclear option of saying that this never happened; perhaps it was just a nightmare of Dreamy's that got out of hand? I don't know.

Psychie Psychie O.K.. I feel you are asking for assistance (Good! It is almost always a good thing to err on the side of communication and understanding!).

I thought of a few starting recommendations:

1. The very first thing to do is forgive yourself if you're feeling any guilt. This is honestly a blameless thing! I will go deeper into this subject upon request.

2. Change the scenario. No retconning is necessary for this solution. Instead, some minor but important additions.

Put something in the Splugorth's dialogue that states that they were lucky to have found Dreamy. Ex: "Aha! Fortune smiles! What a catch! My masters will be pleased when I bring you to them on your knees!"

-- This approach takes away the entire haunting idea that they have "always been" after Dreamy. She can reasonably come to the conclusion that there is no biotracker hidden somewhere in her body.

3. Add a line for the bad guy stating that they don't have communication with additional forces. Yet.

-- This means the party must destroy the barge and everyone on it. The good guys must realize this and act on it immediately; to do otherwise is to invite more bad guys and thus, catastrophe. The battle becomes a race for time. Tension increases but yet also decreases.

This required destruction will break Dreamy's heart because some of her own are on that barge. This can't be helped without changing the game drastically (meaning: somehow capturing the Blind Warrior Women and adding them to our party. I feel that is way too much for a Game Master only running her second game of Rifts to deal with - I understand completely that the the Altarians are enemies that have to go for the sake of the game).

4. Delete the idea about this being a recurring enemy.

--That's the one big part of all of this that makes Dreamy want to sacrifice herself - the idea that she will never be free of this enemy and they will continue to expertly steal her happiness for as long as she is alive. She cannot join any future groups ever because she feels they will possibly suffer/die whenever the Splugorth show up to recapture Dreamy.

5. I change characters.

-- For all I know, this reoccurring bad guy is a major theme of your campaign. If this is true, No Worries! I don't want to derail your campaign.

I feel I am but one Player among many. I can pull in Snowfall or someone else with your approval if the ever-returning Splugorth is some major theme of yours.

I want everyone, GM included, always to have fun. Not just me. I am but a small speck in an immense and extraordinary universe.

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

P.S. Please forgive any grammar mistakes I've thrown in here. I'm doing this from my phone. Let me know if you want more ideas because I can produce them!
