Fantasy [Private] El Stories

Rain

She is now spinning around on the surface of the lake. The rush she feels in her blood excites her, unlike when she's in battle, where she would be handing death sentences. Back in Feita, she loved dancing and singing for the injured. How their eyes seem to sparkle, how the tension in the room seems to disappear after one perfect twirl. The water ripples with every step, every leap she does.

And together, they dance in silence. They continued...over and over again until her doubts go away, her hesitation and embarrassment from earlier disappeared with every step.

It wasn't until Rain struck the final pose, with her arms lightly hugging herself, that she realized just how tired she was.

"Let's...head back..." she pants out. Her stomach lets out a little growl, and she flushes again.

"Back to reality, little Rain."

"Do not call me that."

Going back to the way she came from, Rain slowly glides back to the lake's edge and walks back into town.

Ash
The dream Ash was experiencing was a dream that seemed to repeat itself constantly. Remembering the bloodbath of 5 years ago that was Velder, remembering how hopeless Ash was when the surprise attack hit, the demons came out of nowhere slaughtered many, for the first time in forever Ash had to use his trump card to at least save some people. He remembers the face of a young girl, one of the few he failed to save. How he yelled at her to run when there was no way out, When he thought that she would be fine, a demon that goes by the name In drove her sword through her heart.

Slowly the rage inside Ash was building up, the aura he was releashing began to from his forbidden armor "Transcendence...." Sleep walking Ash had awakened his armor, he was blinded by rage and slammed his fist on the ground. "Jin!...I'll kill you!" Ash remembered the torture Jin and her brother put him through. When they opened his insides and started to use him as an experiment to learn more about humans. Ash was the perfect test subject considering he could regenerate after a few days. Ash's not realizing the havoc he was causing in the Forest Ruins forgot that Rena was still in the area.

At the end of Rain's performance, Rena was going to start clapping and show herself to the healer but she suddenly felt a dangerous aura. The aura was rapidly increasing in power and it seemed to come from below her. She instinctively summoned her bow and took a stance, directing toward the base of the tree. A fully armored beast laid on the ground, twitching around in his sleep.

"Ash? Ash, what's wro-"

The tree shook from the shock-wave Ash threw on the ground. She yelped as she lost her balance and fell toward the ground, head first. Luckily, the spirits had foreseen the action and gathered in time to slow her fall. She landed softly onto the grass on her knees. Scrambling to her feet, she tried to get closer to her sleep-talking friend but the vicious aura pushed her back.

"Ash, wake up! You're having a bad dream. Ash!"

She could only hope that her voice would reach him.

Elder, unlike Sander, was usually a quiet place when the sun died to let the moon shed its delicate brightness upon the ebony sky. Crossing the gates had been easy, most of the guards knew who she was, or rather, who she had been a few years ago. Tonight, however, the local taverns were busier than usual. Guards, merchants and, of course, mercenaries from around Elrios were gathered.

Beneath the contentment produced by alcohol, Lara could feel that most of them were hiding a lingering concern over the situation around them. Some, who clearly were from Feita and Velder, judging by their accent, were only hidden here in hopes that the El Shard from the forest and under Wally's guard wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. It was a futile hope, but nothing was more humane than to have ridiculous expectations for brighter days. The world was falling apart, it was as clear as it had ever been, but she wouldn't let it end until all the demons and the Knights had paid. After that, the world and its people could burn alive for all she cared. After scanning the souls of a tavern called the "The Lily and the Blade", she entered it and found Lenphad drinking quietly a pint of ale in the back of the room.

She approached him and sat down to his left him after greeting him. His eyes merely glanced at her before taking another gulp of his drink. The crowd was loud and a group of fiddlers accompanied the loud and wild dancing steps of drunk men and women from almost all ages.
"How did you get out?" asked the town's blacksmith.
"I was returning from a delivery. The deal took a day longer than expected."
The man to her right turned his head in her direction and stared at her. In response, she simply took a glance at Lenphad's slightly red face. She wouldn't need to do a thing, the alcohol was doing a fine job for her already. Knowing Lenphad's natural resistance to such beverages, he must have been drinking since dusk.
Lenphad let out a chuckle; "Your luck is as good as ever, Miss Tureen. Mind drinking a pint with me for the sake of the good old days?"
Lara shrugged and lifted her hand to catch one of the waitress' attention. The elven descendant put her index up and signalled herself and Lenphad. The waitress simply nodded and, after some minutes, two pints of Ruben Herb Ale were put on the wooden table in front of which both blacksmiths sat. Lara slid one copper ED in the waitress' hands before she went away. Surprised, she bowed slightly in gratitude; It was rare that clients paid their first drink of the night.

"Cheers." She said as she lifted her wooden cup towards Lenphad's, smiling vaguely.
"That's the spirit!" he answered as he did the same gesture before gulping almost half of the cup's contents.

Lara, on her side, simply took a sip. Regaining her sense of taste made her feel that a cheap beer was the best thing she had ever put in her mouth. Following her instincts certainly had more advantages than simply living by Sasha's and Glewin's recommendations. How naive of her to follow others, it was as if she still hadn't learnt her lesson after Resiam. Now, she wouldn't commit that same mistake again.
"Now, Miss Tureen. It has been years since I last saw you. Mind telling me how you managed to survive after Hamel's fall?"

"It's a long tale, Mr. Arnero. I've seen better days, that's for sure. There are more bandits on the roads and I have been left without weapons and barely enough money."
The man sighed. "Don't need to be so formal. If you need anything, count on the Swordsmith cats' support. You've been more than generous to us. I bet that it was a whole guild of freelance mercenaries that attacked you, no regular bandit can bring you down." He finished his beer before continuing "Speaking of which, with your craft and natural skill for the blade, I still think it's a waste you didn't join the Red Knights. Elkashu was more than willing to let you be his right arm. You never know, maybe his off-"
"That man had two children, Lenphad. He appointed another man to replace me. Elkashu's daughter already took his place and Hamel has fallen. There is no place for me anymore" She answered evenly after taking a longer sip of her drink. She hadn't come here to be reminded her of that part of her past. She had not turn that offer down voluntarily, and the man to her side knew it perfectly well.

Lenphad turned his eyes away from her, realizing he had touched a sensitive chord and mumbled an apology. Lara sighed and stated that that slice of the past wasn't important anymore and asked him how the situation had evolved in Elder since her last stay.
"Are you planning on taking that back?"

"Of course. That's why I left it in your care in the first place. You better still have it."
"Echo hid it. Too many persistent people had their sights on it a few months after you left."
"Good. Let's settle that trade tomorrow."
Lenphad nodded and left, leaving Lara to her drink and her thoughts. This night had brought to her good news, almost excellent ones.

Ash
Ash was losing his mind, he could faintly hear the voice of someone calling out to him. Ash faintly stood still. "Who are you?..." Ash's voice didnt sound familiar at all to him. He pulled his sword from his sheath as he slowly approached Rena. "All I see is a demon before me." When in this state anything Ash sees looks like a demon in his eyes thanks to what Jin and In forcefully put inside of him. This was the reason Ash never used his trump card.

Rain
The moment Rain entered the town, she feels the same earthquake that she experienced yesterday.

"Ash...?!"

She runs back to Lake Noahs. Her other self suggests that she contact Rena in order for them to group up with him.

"Create Party Link: Rena."

Her feet were killing her, but she continues to run to where she feels a massive amount of energy is pouring out. She waits until the connection is set before she speaks.

"Rena? Rena? Are you there? Ash is...!"

She didn't even have the breath to finish her sentence. Her feet only moved faster to Ash's location.

For a strange moment, Xavier though he felt the room vibrate. Though at the same time, he felt like it was just part of his dream.

"Get up."

Xavier was on the floor, breathing hard as he gazed up the night sky. He felt the earth shaking for each step his mentor was taking towards him.

"You almost had it."

It wasn't long that a large reptilian face blocked the view of the night sky, making Xavier aware what he was doing. He stared up at the dragon and flinched when the dragon nudged him up with a claw. He slowly sat up and angrily tried to push away the claw. Xavier heard a low rumble that could be laughter.

"Frustrating, isn't it?"

"I want to stop," Xavier grumbled, wiping the sweat off his forehead. "Don't you think I'm too young for this?"

"Nonsense, you already had your first drink about three months ago. If we stop, then you'll surely fall behind," the dragon snarled, yet Xavier wasn't fazed by the scary look. He got used to it long before. "Hmp, maybe this is why you got issues of fitting in here. No one here judges you by your appearance, but by your strength. Come on, prove them wrong, you have the ability to do so, Xavier. Don't make me regret finding you when you're just a mere baby."

Xavier frowned, starting to get back on his feet. He took the moment to stare at his hands, bare and full of burns. It stings. A lot.

"Come on....one more time."

Xavier slowly woke up from his dream, feeling his head pounding and unease with his stomach. He lazily rolled onto his back so he can gaze up the ceiling. He can hear the quiet snoozes of Komodo close by and recalled back on how he managed to get in the room. It was hazy and his head wasn't helping him much. Xavier took the moment to sit up, going slow, and stare down at his hands. He still had his gloves on. With small hesitation, he started to take them off. Now, he stared at his hands, covered in scars. He stared at a particular marking, an emblem. Xavier wasn't sure what it meant or where he got it from, but it may be some hint about his parents. Besides that, it never fades away or got ruined by the scars. He was glad for it.

He flexed out his hands a couple of times before laying back down, resting his bare hands on his stomach. Xavier listened to the quiet snores of Komodo and let his mind wander off. Unaware how much time had passed.

"Rain? Oh, thank gosh you called. Something's wrong with Ash! I don't know what happened but he suddenly summoned his armor. It looks completely different from the one he used earlier, and I don't think he's doing this consciously."

Rena was slowly backing up as Ash walked toward her. She felt her back hit the trunk of the tree but she couldn't afford to tear her eyes off of the man before her. Not when a deadly killing intent seeped from him.

"Ash? Can you hear my voice, Ash? Please, wake up."

Ash
He was walking like a possessed corpse. "All those innocents killed by the hands of demons. If only I had trained this body harder back then I could've saved at least that girls life..." Tears of crimson red rain down the side of his helmets eye sockets, the sorrow and anger welled up inside him.
"Ash, what do you think your doing?" A voice rang inside his head, this familiar voice sent shivers down Ash's spine.
"Ares..."

Rain
"This energy...what is it?"

"I'm not sure if I can purify it, Rain. Even though my songs have extraordinary effects with the people in this world or anything related to the El, if it's an outside force..."

"We still must hurry."

Rain hears Rena panicking over the link, and the dread in her skin grows more and more. When she finally finds the two, she holds her breath in. Rena was backed into a tree, and Ace was wearing the most intimidating armor she had seen. Blood trickled down to the floor.

"I have to do something...even if it doesn't work...!"

She opens her mouth to sing. This time, no words are articulated, only the sound of "duh" and "do". Rain dares to step forward, her voice becoming more and more angelic as time goes by. She sees Ash stop in his tracks, spurring her on to sing louder.

Elesis

"Reporting from Hamel, ma'am!"

"Come in, what's the situation?"
The messenger walked into the tent. Elesis was not surprised at all with the return of the messenger within just half a days time since his departure. He was of Sander-origin blessed with the speed of the El of Wind.

"Yes, ma'am! The situation is bad! I could not enter Hamel at all as it was over run by Demons! Though the capital still stands, and the Resiam was sunk. Travelers told me that the Demon Commander Ran has occupied the Hall of Water and kidnapped Sasha the water priestess."

Elesis slammed her fist down on the table causing the guards and officers around her to jump. "For the love of El! Those blasted demons!"

"Message from Elder, ma'am!"

Taking a deep breathe, Elesis steeled herself. "Come in."

"The mayor of Elder reports that they have lost trace of 15 of their guards. No bodies, armor, weapons were found."

"There's nothing that is going to happen in this little town now. Someone call Penensio back, but have a squad of Shadow Lurkers tail those weirdos instead." An officer saluted and ran off.

"The rest of you gather up the men, we're moving out to Elder!"

Soon the entire camp was hustling. Within less than 2 hours, the battalion was back on the move and they headed to Elder.

I swear this just feels like an wild goose chase... Elesis took one last look at the setting sun against the branches of the Tree of El before continuing her march.

Rena prepared herself for the worse. She knows she will not be able to hurt Ash so if he should choose to attack her, she will be unable to retaliate. Nevertheless, she didn't give up on trying to wake him up. She split her attention between Ash's expression and his sword as she tried to keep her voice calm and stable.

"Ash, it's Rena. We met yesterday at the guild board. I'm not a demon."

The crimson tears sent a jolt through her. For a second, she hesitated as she was overwhelmed by the painful expression that Ash showed.

Then she heard music. Rena turned and saw Rain walking toward them; a lullaby coming out of her open mouth. Relief replaced the worried look on her face. She felt the music resonate in her body, filling her with peaceful thoughts. She glanced at Ash, praying that the song would work.

Ash
It's been ages since Ares had shown himself to Ash, ever since the incident when Jin and In tampered with his body Ares traces had disappeared.
"If it wasn't for that girl who has a resemblance to Freya I don't think we would've been able to meet again Ash. "
Ares said while pointing at an image of Rain standing there singing. Ash couldn't help but get flustered.
"It's not like that Ares...at least that's what I believe. She just..brings a smile to my face." Ash rubbed his chin, for the first time second guessing himself.
Ares just shaked his head,
"Ash I don't care about your current love life, what I do care about is how you let war take control over you." Ares tone got heavier. "You must remember what we are Ash, you must remember what we fight for and who we fight to protect. We are."
"The God of War." Ash said, as he sheathed his blade. Getting down on his knees Ash keeled there for a little bit, his armor slowly disappearing with the wind.
"Apothikéftike xaná apó éna tragoúdi."
(Saved again by a song.")
Ash got up and looked at Rena with a sad expression on his face. "I am truly sorry Rena. I..I lost my composure for a little." He bowed, then Ash turned to Rain.
"Also thank you Rain, you don't know how much you truly helped me just now. Thanks to you and Rena I remembered who I truly am and what I must do."

Rena wished she could sigh in relief when Ash turned back into his normal self. But she didn't. It was too much of a close call for her to be relieved. However, the truth remained that Ash had overcome whatever was subconsciously controlling him so she pretended to be angry and stomped toward the boy.

"You, sir. Made us so worried. I was ready to knock you out if you hadn't woken up!"

Rain
She doesn't stop until he kneels down to his knees, and his armor disappears. She hears him apologizing to Rena, but her vision starts to grow heavy. Rain barely registered his words as she starts to sway with the slightest push of the wind.

"You pushed this body too hard..."

The singer loses her balance and falls face-first onto the grassy ground.

Ash
Ash was walking through the path down to Lake Noah that led to Ruben, Rain in his arms.
"She pushed herself to hard for my sake." looks at Rena who was walking beside him. "I really am the one at fault here. I swear once she wakes up I'll explain everything to you guys." Ash said, he hated himself for letting his own being go out of control.
ChibiSkye ChibiSkye Heavengiver Heavengiver

"It wasn't anyone's fault, Ash. Everyone has secrets they don't want anyone else to know."

Rena held her hand to the girl's forehead, checking to see if she had a fever. Confirming that the girl was fine and had just collapsed from exhaustion, she removed her hand and looked Ash in the eye.

"Rain did what she felt had to be done at that moment. Don't let her efforts go to waste."

They arrived at the inn and she followed them to Ash's room. She stayed at the door and watched as he laid her on his bed.

"You should stay by her side until she wakes up. Whether or not you want to reveal what secret you're keeping from us; Rain has the right to decide whether or not she wants to listen."

She paused to let her words sink in and reached for the doorknob.

"I'll be in the room next door if you need me."

She headed into the room beside theirs and was surprised to see Xavier awake.

"Oh, you're still awake. I thought you would be asleep by now."

Xavier blinked in surprise at Rena's sudden intrusion, sitting up straight as he snapped out of his thoughts. "Oh you came back," he said. He found himself fiddling with his gloves, hiding his hands.

Komodo woke up at Xavier's voice, blinking his eyes a couple of times before he waddles out of the pillow. He looked up at Rena with curiosity before climbing up on the bed with Xavier.

"How things went with...er...Rain?" Xavier asked, nearly forgetting her name. He put back on his gloves and gently touched his own forehead as he still had his headache.

Rena tilted her head questioningly at Xavier's fidgeting but doesn't ask more. She took a seat on a chair and heaved a sigh.

I feel like I'm sighing a lot more these days. I didn't expect that this journey would be so taxing on my skin.

"She's fine. She collapsed from exhaustion. Luckily, we bumped into Ash along the way so he helped carry her back."

What he doesn't know doesn't hurt. Plus, it's not something that people beside the two of them should know about...

Staring at Xavier, she suddenly got up and walked toward him. Gently moving his hand away from his face, she touched her forehead to his.

"Hmm ... you seem to have a fever. Did you also have a bad dream? Lie down, I'll get a cold towel."

She fixed his pillow and lightly pushed on his shoulder to get him to lay on his back. After covering him with the blanket, she left the room and headed toward the bathroom at the end of the hall with a towel and a small wash bin that she found in the corner of the room.

Late Late

Xavier laid there, trying to not get so flustered. Komodo just watches them by, making Xavier wonder if having a good meal and a nice rest helped to clear up the aggression from the small dragon. Though Xavier can to relate the dragon, noticing how he was starting to feel comfortable with the elf. All he does now was waiting and mentally wishing his blush will go away.

Ash
He sat at Rains beside, holding her hand as he channeled his energy into hers to remove some of the fatigue.
"Ares come forth." with that one sentence Ares appeared next to ash, in his standard armor.
"What is it boy?" Ares asked, his arms crossed, wondering what is it Ash wanted.
"I want access to the lancer armor." Ash said, this surprised Ares that Ash had progressed this far in only 45 years that he was alive.
"Hmm, fine the access is yours along with it's weapons, but remember the lancer armor is weaker to the Transcendence in speed." Ares said, Ash knew of this. "Yes but the lancer armor is far stronger than the Ares set, it has a superior mobility to Ares. " Ares nodded in agreement with Ash. "But what about the Transcendence armor? It's attack power isn't out matched by the Lancer." Ares said.
"Yes but the lancer's defense capabilities make up for that, also it's more my style considering the Lancer's kit." Ash said, knowing that Ares already knew all this information and still insisted that Ash used the Transcendence set. After some time Ares agreed. "Fine, your body should be able to use the lancer for at least an hour at max capacity. Hopefully at this rate you'll be able to use the Jager set again." Ares then disappeared back into Ash's being.

Looking back at Rain, Ash smiled a little.
"She seems to have calmed down a little."

Rena soon returned to the room with a bin full of cold water and a soaked towel. She squeezed the excess water into the bin and placed the neatly folded cloth onto Xavier's forehead. At the corner of her eye, she spotted his pet lizard sitting on the edge of the bed, staring at them.

"Your pet doesn't seem to be angry with me anymore."

She showed a warm smile and offered her open palm to the little dragon.

Other Rain
In the recesses of her mind, the older, more mature Rain watches over the sleeping dancer.

"This girl...cares too much. In the world that we came from...it was essential, but here..."

A jolt of energy alerts her as she sees her counterpart glow light red.

"Hmm...what an unexpected development...though it would be quite a contrast if it works out. Now...if only she would let me teach her how to seduce men."

Deciding that she doesn't need to intervene anymore, Rain allows herself to sleep. They both don't wake until the next morning.

"Heh, yeah. I think he got used to you now," Xavier commented, smiling lightly.

Komodo stared at the open palm, squinting slightly before he takes steps forward and giving a sniff from the elf's hand. He eventually loosen up his stare and push his snout against the palm, still sniffing up her scent.

"He does take awhile to warm up with people," Xavier added, watching.

Ash
Sitting on a chair beside Rain's bed Ash closed his eyes using this chance to strengthen his body's spirit and imprint his new set of armor into his own being. To do this Ash entered an Astral Plain that he and Ares would meet and spar against one another. Everything Ash did in here would transfer to his body, the only thing he had to do was build up his stamina with his physical body on a later time.

"Alright...Now to practice at my own speed."
In the Astral Plain 1 hour in the real world equals to a full day in the real world.
"Let's see if you haven't gotten all rusty after all these billions of years Ash." Ares said as a sword of fire formed on his hand.
"Be surprised Ares." Ash said with a grin. He did this till the next morning.
