You can make them out of whatever real-world animal you'd like. They are only an adolescent, so they'd only be an adolescent mix of said animal.

I think it says in the lore that it's hereditary or something. Hence, spreading it by 'breeding'. It's just not sure where they came from. I don't know if that's a face though, just an observation.
