Fandom Pokemon: Worlds Unfurled

Salutations fellow role players. I have recently been persuaded by King Hink to pursue a position here. It is my hope that I may join and contribute to what seems to be a well thought-out Pokemon RP.

Cheers.

If you'd like to.

Everyone, in my recent post I provided a very important piece of information which I will now share with you here in the OOC.

Certain kinds of Pokémon moves are effective against other Pokémon for a reason, and it has to do with bio-chemicals within their bodies.

Fire Pokémon, for instance, are not weak to natural water you'll find in a stream (though an open flame like Charmander's tail does still need to be kept clear of it). Special bio-chemicals, usually found in the throat/gullet, of water Pokémon are what cause the perceived "damage," though what it's actually doing is triggering what equates to something akin to an allergic reaction. The same can be said for other types of specialized moves, and thus if you wash a fire Pokémon's flesh/fur with normal water, they won't feel a thing. In fact they might rather enjoy it.

I hope this makes sense. If you guys are confused as to why a specific type might work well against another in this RP, then ask away!
This I suppose would fall more under brainstorming and discussion on my seemingly endless quest for clarification than an actual suggestion. And am really not meaning to poke holes. As well I hope I do not confuse you, since I have a terrible tendency to ramble.

I can see it, partially. It does seem like it is limiting the type of damage they can recieve. For example the difference between physical and special attacks. For example Razor Shell would cut, Crabhammer would bruise, Hydro pump would just blast away, Scald would burn, etc. Now when you are saying allergic reaction, is it the attacks do damage as normal BUT the type weakness adds additional damage from the allergic reaction like response?

Or how I am sort of taking it, the bio-chemicals weakens the cells, making them easier to damage or cut or burn or fracture. For example a vine whip used on a Gigalith, the Gigalith's cells are more vulnerable to the bio-chemicals that are on said vine, able to have the pain spread farther faster through a chain reaction in the nerves or an actual structual weakness to the appropriate bio-chemicals. On the other side being resistance, where is pretty much just the opposite, it being more chemically or structurally sound to certain bio-chemicals.

But it does leave a bit of confusion on some non damaging moves. Such as Water Sport or Soak. Both are used against an opponent and affect it. Would they contain different bio-chemicals that though they are of the same element do different things? Or would the affected creature still suffer an allergic reaction from them? Which brings me to Aqua Ring, which is a healing move that can potentially be used on any type of pokemon. If a ground or Fire were to be in the field of effect of a friendly Aqua Ring, would that heal it or injure it?

As well, what about some things that would be hard pressed to carry something as organic as biochemicals? Such as steel, or flame, or sand, or electricity, or rock, or something dead like ghost pokemon.

Another concern being, are bio-chemicals consciously controlled by the using pokemon, or would the bio-chemicals still effect a charmander even if it was playfully licked by it's friend squirtle?

Yay! You're here! I hope you like it!
For the most part you seem to have the right idea, though I believe you're thinking about this just a little too much King. Still, I shall do my best to answer your questions.

The language I used regarding "allergic reaction" meant that what happens is LIKE an allergic reaction, not an actual allergic reaction. The various Pokemon Type's bodies evolved over time to either negate, resist, or react dangerously to the other Types which occupy the world. When one Pokemon encounters another whose special attacks evolved to overpower their own, it causes was looks like an allergic reaction though it's really just the Pokemon's own body not being able to cope with the special properties of the other. It's meant to be that simple. You don't have to go so scientific that we start talking about cellular damage or whatnot, as that would life threatening to any Pokemon as opposed to just a simple type disadvantage.

When it comes to more physical based specialty type moves like vine whip, in the show they were just a simple physical hit. But in this game, physical based attacks like vine whip will, karate chop, etc, will cause the area of effect (the tip of the vine, the edge of the hand, etc,) to glow and concentrate the special properties of the attack to be able to use the type advantage. Otherwise, they'd just be physical attacks without any type advantage.

Moves like water sport, mud sport, soak, etc, will not cause the same kind of damage but it will cause the same kind of inability to cope with the environment weakening the enemy's specialty type moves as long as the effect remains on the field.

In order for aqua ring to be used on any Pokemon, it must be transferred via the move baton pass, which makes it fairly impractical as a healing technique for anything other than the Pokemon who used the move in the first place given how few Pokemon learn baton pass. Besides, the healing effect is minimal and won't last through an entire battle.

In this RP, a Pokemon's type weakness does not play favorites. Friendly specialty attacks will weaken/damage friendly Pokemon the same as if they were on opposing sides.

Fire, ground, ghost, etc, aren't specifically using bio-chemicals but as I said before it is the opposing Pokemon's body's inability to cope with the element in question that causes the "specialty" type damage.

If a Charmander were licked in a friendly manner by a Squirtle, it wouldn't cause the same kind of damage as the bio-chemicals are produced in special sacs further inside the water Pokemon's body before it is released during an actual attack. A friendly lick won't do anything.

Hopefully that covers everything.

Thank you very much, @Kyero , that does cover much of what I was wanting to know. Yeah, and I know I do have a tendency to over think things.

Hey guys!

Something I think I spoke to at least one of you about is how Pokémon will react once caught. Wild Pokémon will inherently understand that they belong to you and they won't try to run, but it's not true loyalty that they do so. It's that they know the Poké Ball can recall them from anywhere, and that running away is pointless.

They won't just like you, and they won't just like your other Pokémon either. Some may even hold a grudge against the Pokémon you used to capture them, making keeping them around one another somewhat dangerous as they might be inclined to fight which could potentially cause you harm trying to stop it and even put a damper on your resources trying to heal them when it's over.

So never assume that catching a Pokémon means that it's going to just like you and be loyal. It won't run away, but that doesn't mean it will actively try to help you, enjoy your company, or in any way be what you may be familiar with from the show/manga/games.

Thank you!

Checking for gender? Interesting mechanic. I feel sorry for anyone who catches some of the more... gender ambiguous... pokemon. Like roggenrola. I think quite a few amusing reasons will come as result.

Ohmygod laughing so hard right now.

I figure the pokedex or something would inform the trainers
Lol. I figured there was a word missing from that statement.

Alrighty! Seems to be time for my daily question. Luckily it is a fairly straight forward one that I realized last night after reflecting on my posts since I had Ricky say something about the Viridian Gym.

How much liberty are we given in describing the Gym Leaders? One easy such part of the question is if the type's and badges are the same. However, it was said that the Gym Leaders are not canon, and as such I need to ask, do you already have an idea of who the Gym Leaders are or are we going to make them up as we go along?

I do have ideas for the Gym Leaders, and I will provide pictures and party line ups (including their different "tier" parties for lower or higher class Trainers) in the "Neutral Characters" thread once I'm finished fleshing them out. They should be done in a day or two depending on how school treats me, but expect them this weekend on Saturday at the latest.

Gotcha, I will edit out what was described and leave it vague until then.

Btw, are we allowed to make additions to the Neutral Characters page? For example trainers or family members that may play apart in the characters developement, reoccurring NPC's that the character talks with like on the phone or whatever reason.

If they're family, I have no problems (unless I go to read it and find something in there I don't like or that clashes with what I have planned). If it's a friend of your character, I have no problem (under the same circumstances).

However, anything else must be discussed with yours truly before it may be added.

Say I have interaction between my Chespin, and my recently gained Poochyena, can I have them speak like humans. When I say, this I mean have conversations, but too the humans, they would still be just saying Poketalk. @Kyero

I know what you meant.

If you'd like to have little conversations with your Pokemon, be my guest. Just remember that any newly caught Pokemon won't be too fond of or have much to say to the Pokemon who helped in their capture.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking of. Thanks. I always in love with the Mystery Dungeon Pokemon Games, so any kind of getting Pokemon to talk is a plus for me.

On top of that guys, I lied. I got the Gym Leaders done already so they're up for your viewing pleasure.

Just to be clear (though I think the bold, italic, underlined text explains this well enough), the Gym Leaders are not shown in order of appearance in the Kanto chronology. Also, the types have changed and they no longer reflect the original Kanto Gym line up with two exceptions, Lilly, as the psychic leader of Saffron city and Brennan as the fire leader of Cinnabar Island.

The order goes like this:

Viridian City - Ryū

Pewter City - The Te Brothers

Cerulean City - Kelly

Vermillion City - Rhasia

Celadon City - Hans

Fuchsia City - Razor

Saffron City - Lilly

Cinnabar - Brennan

Something about the Gym Leaders, just for clarification purposes.

They have access to a specially designed Pokédex which communicates with your own and allows it to display your current Trainer information including any list of social offenses or known heroic deeds, currently acquired badges, most used Pokémon, and more. This allows them to tailor their team to best challenge your own Trainer strength, as the lists of teams I provided in the "Neutral Characters" thread are only their most well known parties. However, they have other Pokémon to fill in the gaps if they feel it necessary to switch and give either more or less of a challenge depending on what they see in you as a Trainer.

Another thing!

Gym Leaders, when they battle you for a badge, will be controlled by yours truly. So when you wish to challenge a Gym, contact me via private conversation and we can use our responsive messaging to tailor a collaborative post for the battle.

Mind you, I will be using everything I know about Pokémon to allow the Gym Leaders to provide as much of a challenge as possible. This will feel very much like I am sometimes god-modding, or pushing the Gym Leader's Pokémon to do things they shouldn't be able to, but that's because your entire Pokémon lives you've been facing bots with little to no challenging AI and have never pit your own wit and knowledge against anyone who could do the same on equal footing. Maybe you had a few linked battles against people in the games before, but in this RP, these creatures aren't AI or little mechanical sprites with fixed stats and HP. These are living creatures with will power, determination, pride, and grit.

I will not make these battles easy. In fact, many of you will lose battles against the Gym Leaders along the way and I will make it abundantly clear during our conversation battle when your Pokémon have been defeated.

This is going to be normal for everyone, as you cannot possibly hope to win every battle. Even certain random NPC's will defeat you and your Pokémon from time to time, so be sure to save some losses for yourself against NPC's along the journey. I'll be monitoring everyone as we continue, so be sure to update your profile with your W/L ratio somewhere near the bottom below your main biography, alright?

Thanks everyone!

@Kyero Am I accepted?
Sorry, I didn't know you tried to join.

To clarify, I only check the character sign-up page when I am contacted ahead of time and know that someone intends to join. Since I didn't see anything from you about your intent to join I never saw your profile. After looking it over, I don't really find anything wrong with it so if you'd like to get your character started then you may but I have a request: please do make an effort to communicate more loudly/clearly so that there's no guess work with your character. Had you not asked me about whether or not you were accepted, I would never have checked the character sign-up page to accept you at all and that's not really healthy to a GM/Player relationship.

This Out Of Character Chat page is already up to 23 pages because the others are highly communicative, even though the RP just started a couple weeks ago and not much has happened IC. So please do make an effort to be a part of that.
