Fandom Pokemon: Worlds Unfurled

Heh.

You have nothing to worry about Cloudy.

Anyway, it's time to see what everyone's characters are made of. So far, one of them's pissed off and unimpressed by the threats which is somewhat understandable. One is astonished, and the other doest know what to do. How will the rest of you fare at seeing Sakura's fate and hearing the final result of the aftermath?

I'm interested to find out.

Well there is a turn of events. And you can add defiance to the list of garnered reactions.

@Kyero , I am curious. Will you be orchestrating Team Rocket events against the two groups to further make things personal? Or will the events that happen away from them or revolve around Sakura?

Also, is playing a Team Rocket member forbidden in this RP?

@Kyero Yet again, another flurry of questions!

1. So I assume pokedex's serve as mobile phones in this RP?

2. Is pokegear a thing? If so what is in it?

3. Since a pokemon center blew up I assume the police are going to be on high alert in the other cities and possibly restricting access to landmarks such as pokemon tower or the pewter city museum?

4. So I know you pretty much have a new version of teamrocket for the RP but does that mean everything about them is adjusted or is it just the most important stuff like hideout/leader/goals are different and they still tend to steal then resell pokemon and such?

@Godman873 Yes, Pokedex's serve as a phone-type device. Pokegear is basically already in the Pokedex, serving the Trainer with phone, weather, topography report within around 5 miles, date and time, Pokedex original functionality in analyzing Pokemon data, etc,. Yes, police all around the Region/world are going to be on high alert because we only felt the effects in Kanto, but Team Rocket did attack the other Regions as well even though we didn't feel those effects. The leader, goals, hideouts, and the way they operate have all been changed from the show to be even more nefarious and ruthless. Team Rocket in the games and anime/manga were dialed down to make them appropriate for children, but I am not giving them any such limitations.

So yes, let me give you the low down on Team Rocket since we're all here!

Team Rocket is a criminal organization dedicated to unlocking what they believe to be a Pokemon's full potential by teaching them never to hold back during training. If the Pokemon can destroy the training equipment, so be it. If they kill their training partner (usually a stolen Pokemon), so be it. If they cause damage to the facility itself beyond just the equipment, all the better. They want their Pokemon to be as destructive as possible to keep them unpredictable and as dangerous as possible on the battlefield. When these overly destructive Pokemon take to the field, they do so with every intention of killing your Pokemon to please their masters because that's how they were trained.

When it comes to Team Rocket's operatives, they are just as ruthless and limitless as their Pokemon are. Their operatives carry guns on their person at all times, and if their Pokemon can't get the job done, they'll finish it off their own way. However, they don't usually stop there. Once their job is done, they officially have nothing to do so many of them will enjoy their free time by engaging in the usual criminal activity of theft, murder, rape, or even espionage if they're feeling particularly helpful to the organization. Most of the time though, when they have free time, you can bet they'll engage in one or more of the first three activities.

Team Rocket's operations usually involve takeovers of Pokemon Corporations, theft of nationally or internationally recognized Pokemon such as Champion's Pokemon, Elite Four Pokemon, TV stars Pokemon, etc. The more powerful and well known they are right off the bat, the better. If they can turn a nationally recognized Pokemon into their destructive servant and get them out in the world to cause devastation, it's a mental and emotional blow to those who like to fancy themselves able to fight back. For instance, there will be a specific Pokemon of just such a background turned against us very, very soon which again will be broadcast all over the world via the same methods as before.

Whether or not this upcoming event is going to be enough to break the resolve of one particular individual in our group who fancies getting stronger to fight back or not remains to be seen, but remember basic human psychology when playing. Normal people don't just see such things and want to fight back out of anger. 99% of the time the basic human instinct is fear, and running is the first thought. Anger always comes later. Especially when someone that is already more powerful than you could likely ever be fails to stand up to the dangerous you wish to face or resist.

In this instance I've been hanging back from saying anything, but I think now's a good time to remind everyone that while our characters are eventually going to be going down this path of resistance, an immediate reaction in favor of resistance against Team Rocket shouldn't be quite so strong. At the RP's current stage, it will take us a long time (well into our 7th and 8th badges) before we're even ready to fight low level Team Rocket enemy Pokemon on even/semi-even ground. Thinking that getting stronger now to fight back isn't going to do you much good given how new everyone still is to their journey. The defiant and heroic path sounds fun and cool in practice, but getting too eager to fight this early is something that basic human instinct and psychology would fight against rather than support, especially given how weak our Pokemon are right now.

But again, Team Rocket's reinforcement of the concept that fighting back is useless is coming soon, and will be quite informative to even the most defiant of would-be heroes.

And yes, Team Rocket is supposed to break your resolve if at all possible. Remember that your character is not you, so even if you think you'd be able to resist, it doesn't necessarily mean your character will as well.

It's very interesting but a bit confusing. I guess its because of the scale in which the events took place makes it made it sound like Rockets will be everywhere and make it impossible to get a whole lot stronger or get badges. Especially with a death count that high initially and declaring they are going to tear down the gyms... Pewter city gym is already gone. So I'm not sure how were supposed to really get badges and stronger when everything is falling to chaos... our character would end up doing a hell of a lot more running and hiding than openly being trainers and risk being attacked.

At least that's what make sense to me.

Harlow is going to fall apart. She really won't be able to process this stuff and it's going to make her go crazy. Who wants to volunteer to be the one to calm her down? xD

I also agree with Shura - how are they going to even go anywhere without feeling that a team Rocket member is watching them? Won't they make it impossible to get stronger?

Exactly the point Shura and Cloudy. Team Rocket is supposed to make things seem hopeless. That's what is going to set this RP apart from others. You need to figure out a method of surviving and thriving in a world thrown to chaos. This world isn't going to be saved before the worst happens as is so often the case in games/anime/manga. The world is in the process of falling right now, and before we manage to become strong enough to fight back, it will have already fallen. That's what is going to make our struggles so much more meaningful, and that much more rewarding when we finally gain momentum. But it's going to take a long time.

Also, the Gyms are being targeted, but the Gym Leaders themselves aren't so stupid as to get caught in such attacks. They are surviving just fine, so as long as you can find them you can still battle them for a badge.

Understandable but how are we to gauge strength in terms of gym badges when there wont really be any?

Edit: NM for some reason didn't see the last part

A Pokemon Trainer's skill and the strength of their Pokemon cannot be gauged from the number of badges they possess. I'm using them as a time marker, not a strength marker. Ash in the anime was a pansy most of his adventure despite how many badges and Pokemon League tournaments and such he partook in. Half his battles were won on luck or some kind of deus ex machina device to save him and his Pokemon at the last second.

In this RP, you strength will be judged by the Pokemon you keep and how well you strategize and work as a unit.

Consider this: Most Pokemon Trainers form a strong bond with their Pokemon, but they seldom ever become as one with them.

Why?

They still call themselves "Pokemon Trainers," and whether they're conscious of it or not they believe in the depths of their heart that they are superior to their Pokemon. Why else is the Pokemon meant to be kept in a ball rather than stand as an equal without it? Even if they call them family and love them with all of their hearts and convince themselves that they are equals, most Pokemon Trainers believe their Pokemon to be companions, but little more. Almost never do they think of their Pokemon as a part of their own being. They say they work as one, but solid teamwork alone does not a seamless unit make.

Perhaps along the way, through their despair and the hopelessness and anger, our characters could realize this fact. That the bond most Trainers consider to be their greatest strength has in fact been underestimated and taken for granted this entire time and that Team Rocket's idea of strength is nothing but a facade of a Pokemon in pain. Perhaps, someday, our characters could come to realize that by truly becoming one with their Pokemon as opposed to just being a powerful team, that they may find salvation from this mess and find the strength to fight back.

Interesting, I like it a lot and hope we can get to that level of understanding.
Oh I'm sure we will.

Sakura should be able to help with that, or at least help everyone begin to find their way to that understanding, but she'll need to recover a bit more before she can do so.

Na I think with the people we have it'll live even if it is just down to a hand full of people

Abby might be a bit ahead in the way of thinking about pokemon, she just needs to trust her pokemon a lot more and not be as over protective of them. Thats really going to be her hardest lesson. To trust and self and her pokemon enough to be strong instead of running away.

Indeed.

Harlow will just need to think of them less as cuddly creatures only there for hugs. She also needs to be less ignorant.

xD its all about learning and growing. Character development!

also Clousy! you mentioned getting a ralts earlier, took me a minute to realize it but you can still get one we could just have two different genders. One male and one female so in the end one ends up with a Gardevior and the other a Gallade

Uwahhh I didn't think of that. But I think I'm not going to get a Ralts because I have other Pokemon in mind for her and if I added another option for myself to pick from I'd just..

*mind explosion*

Ah my bad! I could have sworn someone mentioned it when we were talking about what pokemon we wanted to get.
