The Klefki was struck by the attack of the Raichu, but due to fake out being a relatively normal type move, it would not do much to the steel type Klefki. The most interesting part was that the small keyring Pokemon didn't flinch, it unwaveringly began to glow and enveloped the one side of the field in a psychic barrier. There was a small dark coloured patch that was on the metallic Pokemon, it originally blended in with both the keys on its body and while it was hidden in the corridor's shadows. The momentum of the battlefield caused the wrapped fabric to come loose and fall over the Pokemon.

Covert cloak.

“Psion, light screen."

Archaludons, even as Duraludons, were Pokemon with lower special defence, hence why Altair opted to gain the defensive advantage first, especially after determining that the Jolteon was an all-out attacker after seeing its life orb. This was her battle to practice and shine, so that's why despite all of Psion's protest Altair eventually decided to take away his white herb for the covert cloak.

Under the effects of light screen, the power of the discharge would be greatly reduced, but Raichu would be another issue now that lighting rod has charged it up. Altair didn't have a electric immunity, something that most people likely would have prepared for a gym like this. But there was an imminent threat right now, although two of his Pokemon did resist electric type moves, including the one that is currently on field.

"Change of plans Kitaya, Meteor Beam on Jolteon, now."

The red herb that was held by Archaludon dissolved as it assumed the bridge-like form used for charging up attacks, and directly blasting a Meteor Beam towards Jolteon. The Pokemon was bursting with energy as the Meteor Beam raised its special attack while the power herb allowed its charging time to be ignored.

Altair's Togedemaru sat on the bleachers and crunched a cracker in its tiny hands, a bit disappointed it wasn't up for a gym battle with an electric-type gym leader. He watched the leader's Raichu use fake out and emitted a tiny 'hmph' from his spherical body. This gym leader wasn't the only one with a fake outing electric rodent.

A covert cloak? That was a bit troublesome, he wouldn't be able to fish for a Discharge paralysis. Paired with that light screen, Discharge had been all but neutered as a threat.

Volkner swept his fingers through his hair, watching the turn play out as Meteor Beam slammed into Jolteon. The electric eeveelution was sent flying back and for a moment, the referee's flag twitched, ready to call Jolteon's exit from the battle. Volkner knew better.

Struggling to its feet, Jolteon held on by a sliver.

    "Go, Discharge, Eerie Impluse!"

The battlefield lit up once more with Discharge, this time from Raichu, and Jolteon's body began to glow with an other-worldly light, reducing Archeludon's offenses. The synergy of electricity showed itself as Jolteon drew from the power of Discharge to heal itself. It was still in the game!

"How bothersome..."
Steel types weren't known to be offensive, and Altair wasn't use to taking one hit KOs in battle, but with a Pokemon who is a fragile as Jolteon, with a life orb nonetheless, he had wanted it to be out of the picture. Fast...quite annoying. Combined with the Raichu, who was wearing a focus sash, it appears that the strategy revolved around the Pokemon being able to take multiple hits guaranteed.

"Metal sound." The keyring Pokemon moved fast, as it rubbed its metallic tendrils together to generate a screeching sound that blasted into the field.

More discharges hit the field as Raichu and Jolteon received their respective boosts from the electricity, the steel waves and electricity colliding, but Altair wasn't too worried. This was anticipated, except the Jolteon still standing after Meteor Beam.

"Snarl!" Still in its bridge position, another sound wave was emitted from Archaludon, both hitting the weaken Jolteon and Raichu, removing the special attack boosts it received from lighting rod.

Jolteon went down as the barrage of soundwaves sapped the last of its strength. Raichu was also damaged, but this was an acceptable outcome. Volkner returned Jolteon and reached for the third pokéball on the wall, releasing Electivire. "End things, Discharge & Stomping Tantrum!"

Raichu jumped on Electivire's shoulders and lit up once more. The live wire pokémon was unaffected by electric type move and its motor drive ability limbered its muscles and granted it another stage of speed. The cell battery it held was also drained of its power to super-charge its attacked. With blistering speed it rushed around the battlefield, stomping its feet to release devastating shockwaves to remove the troublesome Klefki.

"Tsk." Altair should've known that gym leaders would catch on to how valuable Klefki was with its bothersome tool kit and flexible prankster ability, it didn't help that there were barely any dark-type gyms around.

"Metal sound, directly ahead Psi." As the Electvire charged at Klefki, the tiny keyring Pokemon seemed unphased, and instead again blasted out a series of screeching soundwaves directly at the imposing Pokemon. Being hit by the boosted ground type move and fluttering to the ground.

After the referee waved the flag confirming the knockout, Klefki dragged itself to the edge of the battlefield. Togedemaru hopped from the bleachers and dragged the keyring Pokemon from one of its keys into the audience, much to the latter's dismay. It protested by smacking the rotund rodent's back with its metallic tendrils, but it was akin to a light breeze to the still energetic steel type in the team.

But this was a chance opened up by Klefki, it was a great way to counteract the eerie impulse by Jolteon, with both being the last move that lingered on the battlefield before its users were knocked out. Kitaya the Archeludon was quite damaged, even underneath the light screen and its dragon typing, the sheer amount of discharges it has taken have caused her to waver slightly.

"We have to remove Electvire, Kitaya! Draco meteor!" Recognizing the problems posed by the energized physical attacker, Altair commanded what would likely be the last move from Archeludon, raising his arm to point upwards to the sky, the source of the ultimate dragon-type attack. Flaming rocks coated with draconic energy began swirling in the sky, and as the trainer's arm dropped, they'll be released and begin to fall.

Draco Meteor—Volkner's pupils constricted. After metal sound the meteor storm would be more than enough to fell Electivire, but...he couldn't make it too easy!

    "Raichu!"

The electric mouse pokémon leaped into the air, cheek pouches crackling as it lit the Gym up with a blinding flash. The boom of thunder and the crash of meteorites deafened all noise. When the smoke cleared Electivire still stood, several meters away from the impact point of Draco meteor, it's body crackling with electricity as its Motor Drive ability ran double time to whisk it out of danger; however...

    "Raichu is unable to battle!"

Jumping into the path of draco meteor and blinding Archeludon had resulted in Raichu's knock out. Volkner returned his trusty partner and sent out the last of his pokémon—Lanturn.

The Gym Leader's eyes, narrowed on the bridge dragon. It had stuck around for long enough, "Go Elective, Stomping Tantrum!"

Draco meteor was a powerful move, but it had a small chance to miss its target like many other moves of the caliber. It is said that missing draco meteors have cost championship matches. Archeludon's ability, however, perhaps saved the move from being completely useless via Raichu's disturbance and struck the electric rodent Pokemon instead. Togedemaru clapped in the audience.

The Pokemon that replaced Raichu was Lanturn, Altair felt a bit relieved, it was a relatively slower Pokemon for an electric type, and for once he would not be at a speed disadvantage. This was particularly important since he had lost the first-move advantage due to losing his Prankster Pokemon.

"Alright, you're up." The Pokemon that replaced Klefki was a Sliggoo, a usual non-fully evolved Pokemon that curled in her shell before peaking out, a shining purple gem can be see within the shell. "Acid spray, Lanturn." Lanturn wasn't fast, that means it likely was more defensive, without any moves that could hit for super effective damage, the priority would be to shred its defences just like with Electvires, and perhaps wait for the chance to go for a double knock out with an area of effect move.

”A waste of a draco meteor though..." Altair muttered as the dust settled, Pokemon were now dropping faster as the battle proceeded onwards. Now that Archeludon had her special attack dropped again and again, while taking multiple discharges, it was about time for her to retreat. It appears that the leader thought the same, as Electvire decided to attack Archeludon as it did with Klefki. The ability gives and the ability takes away, what perhaps allowed Archeludon to at least take out Raichu was at the cost of not having the defense boosting ability Stamina, with the number of discharges it had taken, perhaps this match up would have a different ending.

After returning Archeludon, Altair prepared his final Pokemon as well. The good old reliable, perhaps good old reliable as gold, Gholdengo. "Alright Asago, we're poised for rain now." He watched as the golden shine of the Pokemon appeared on the arena, and prepared for the final attack.

Volkner had, by this point, keenly picked up on his opponent's preference for steel types. Usually that wouldn't be a problem, electric matched into steel rather well, and there were even some special tricks that gave electric types an advantage but... "Dragons..."

Thick steely hides and draconic scales damped the sting of thunder, dragons were one of electric's bad match-ups. But Volkner had more than enough counter-play for that.

"Lanturn, Soak that Slug! Electirive lights out, Supercell Slam!"

The live wire Pokémon hung back while Lanturn returned fire with a penetrating soak. Once Sliggoo transformed into a water type it would be ripe pickings for Electivire, who knocked its fists together, each burly arm already begining to crackle and pop.

So that's what the water type is for...other than the ground types, Altair keenly forgot about that in the heat of the battle. Soak, was a move that turned Pokemon into the water type, hence giving them an electric weakness. Legends say you can do the same by breaking the sprinkler system in the gym, but nowadays there's rules against that, and you gotta pay for that sort of collateral damage.

It appears that both of the leader's Pokemon decided to target into the Sliggoo, it was a curious decision, a not fully evolved Pokemon in such a match would likely invite some underestimation. Perhaps Sliggoo's dragon-steel typing as well as its special defence shredding acid spray invited some bad memories of the first half of the match.

However, doubling your attacks into the same Pokemon always had a risk. Electvire slammed into Sliggoo after Lanturn also gave the sluggie Pokemon its undivided attention, totally ignoring the golden ghost type Pokemon that have just appeared on the field.

With both Pokemon's special defences already reduced and no switch-ins available to reset their stats, Altair took a deep breath and wave his hand towards Gholdengo. "Let's clean it up, Make it Rain!"

On cue, the gholden Pokemon jumped and immediately, golden coins filled the area, being hurled at Lanturn and Electvire left and right. Although electric types resisted steel type attacks, the shredded defences of the opponent patched up the damage in that respect, and with how Silggoo is looking, a potential 2v1 needed to be avoided.

As the cracking electricity settled, the metal shell that was on the smoldering ground wiggled a bit, as the slug Pokemon poked its head out of its shell, weak, but still curiously gazing around. "Get it together Goob Goob!" Altair shouted at the sluggie Pokemon as it perked up its head. "Muddy Water! Wash them away!"

Generating a ball of water, Sliggoo blasted the muddy water toward the other side of the field, where the coinage assault from Gholdengo was still on-going.

It was more than surprising that Sliggoo could weather a full-powered Supercell Slam, but as Volkner's eyes caught the sparkle of a polished eviolite, his incredulity dimmed. Electivire would need some extra time in the Gym if an eviolite was enough to stop it from picking up the KO.

Unfortunately, the battle had ended for Electivire. With it's special defenses shredded by Acid Spray and Metal Sound, the electric type could but barely withstand the punishing coinage but the follow-up Muddy Water was just too much. The same couldn't be said for Lanturn, naturally much bulkier than it's partner and with a dual resistance to stance, the sea-lanturn pokémon soaked up the coins like nobody's business.

It was two to one, but Volkner knew Lanturn was more than enough to wrap things up. "Lanturn Ice beam!"

A lance of ice froze the wave of muddy water in place and simultaneously errected a barrier between Lanturn and its two opponents. It was a perfect pseudo-barricade that would hide lanturn while it went for—"Discharge!"

The battlefield lit up once more, electric waves dancing over the moistened battlefield!

"Phew, that's that."

The fact that the muddy water was stopped by ice beam was troublesome, but Electvire going down was a huge relief, it was highly threatening to Gholdengo compared to the Lanturn. Ghodengo's ability would render Lanturn's current tactic, soak, completely useless, but its resistance to steel-type moves and the now lowered special attack was a hindrance to really defeating it.

As the discharge came out from the other side of the field, Gholdengo weathered the hit fairly well, but Sliggoo was already on her last sliver of HP, and being water-type did not help the situation. The battle is now down to a 1v1, although Gholdengo is the stronger offensive Pokemon, the attack power it lost through Make it Rain would be a problem. The Lanturn was also yet to be really damaged, with its much more defensive setup.

"Right, not bad." Altair whispered to Sliggoo as she rolled back to the edge of the field and curled back into her shell. "Get behind the barrier, Asago! Nasty Plot!"

The priority was to regain lost attack right now, or else there would be no hope in ever defeating Lanturn, worst if the aquatic Pokemon pulls out a move like aqua ring. Gholdengo hopped on its coinage surfboard and slipped around the barrier while attempting to calm itself and set up nasty plot around the ice structures.

"Let's wrap this up Lanturn, Rain Dance and Muddy Water!"

The mystic water hanging from Lanturn's neck sparkled as the Lanturn Fish whipped up a rainstorm and the summoned forth a wave of water. Gholdengo wanted to surf? The Steel Type could never hope to outsurf a fish. Boosted by the rain and its item, the muddy wave crashed into the frozen remains of Sliggoo's muddy water, shattering the ice and carrying it along in the surge of water, ready to pelt Gholdengo with water and ice stone!

The wave of water crashed onto the icy barrier as well as Gholdengo, although Lanturn's taking some time to set up rain allowed Nasty Plot to go off. With both sides boosting their offenses in some way, it seemed like that battle is now going into its decisive phase.

"Shadow Ball!" The attack went off towards the Lanturn, but Gholdengo himself also was hit with the rain-boosted Muddy Water. Already having taken a hit from discharge prior, although Gholdengo can level it's typing and stats to its advantage, the incoming damage was still quite high.

Altair held his breath as he watched the shadow ball slam into Lanturn, while gazing over at his own Pokemon as Gholdengo shakily got up after the Muddy Water and Discharge. The downpour continued, the rain drops kept on falling on the arena. Five turns...no way. Perhaps...even if I have Asago use recover here, that'll only work five times. He'll be outputing no damage during that time, and if Lanturn knows something like aqua ring none of this turn would have mattered. The ice is melting, there's not going to be another chance to use Nasty Plot again...There's no way he would let us do that...Maybe it's better to just...

"...I concede." As the two Pokemon were pulling themselves back together after the attack, Altair turned to the referee and spoke out calmly. The difference in damage output and damage taken was too great. Muddy water lowering the visibility of the area through the rain didn't help either. Gholdengo turned back towards his trainer with a slightly perplexed expression, despite his less than pristine state as his golden body was covered in scorch marks and mud.

"...I said I concede." He repeated to the referee as well as the leader himself. "Lanturn took Asa- Gholdengo's shadow ball too well, we won't have an opportunity to weaken it, hence I judge the remainder of this battle being a lost cause. Due to the above, I would like to concede to the gym leader."

He...surrendered? The Electric Gym Leader visibly deflated, "Aww, c'mon now. Don't disappoint me."

Volkner sighed as the referee's flag descended and the match was decided. His opponent had been strong, the slightest misstep and he'd have had to hand over his badge; however... that wasn't to be. The boy was deep in his head, he'd already lost in his head, their ferocious battle ended with a whimper.

"Pokémon battles aren't just about winning or losing you know? They're about Pokémon feeling their limits on the edge of victory or defeat—those are the kinds of shocking battles trainers should strive for."

"You battled well but...sigh, if you're interested in another shocking battle then you know where to find me."

Altair sighed at the gym leader's disappointment. It was to be expected, but he did believe that this was the best judgement he could make.

"...Yeah. I guess." The boy muttered after the leader's expressed frustration. "I don't really care about winning or losing...why would I forfeit matches if I did. It's just that..." Altair glanced over at the few of his Pokemon that sat around the arena and the audience bleachers. "I been doing this since I was a kid and...I'm not sure what I'm trying to do anymore."

He shook his head slowly to snap out of the thoughts before looking up at the battle arena.

"...Sure. Maybe." Altair replied unenthusiastically to the leader's future rematch invitation as both him and Gholdengo looked at the battlefield littered with coins.

"...Can I pick up the coins before I go?"

Whatever, she didn't really care. "Well, we're on Route 202 right now. You just came from Sandgem Town which has the lab. They give away Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup there. Piplup is what you're after, I'm pretty sure it's final evolution is a Water/Steel-Type. Hope that helps."

She then paused. Maybe she could travel with this girl? She seemed to be pretty new at this. With a sigh, she left Lewis and Rincewind to travel to Jubilife ahead of her, wanting to help this girl travel. She didn't have high hopes for Milliana's talent as she sounded scared. "Name's Ramona. I'll go with you to Sandgem Town and help out." She looked at her phone and hummed contemplatively as she saw some recent local news pop up on her phone. That looked like good material to talk about. "There's a contest happening in Jubilife City in three days. You interested? I'm thinking about doing some contests, but my main focus is on the gym circuit." She gave a soft smile as she helped escort Milliana back to Sandgem Town, her Charcadet breathing a sigh of relief at how normal Ramona was acting now as he walked close to her heel.

"You probably thought I would say no." G said proudly as they stepped on to the famous Iron Island. "But I'm not the same person you picked up in Snowpoint. I am now dedicated and full of passion!"

The streamer adjusted her mining helmet and checked the light flickered on. "Now come on, I have a Beldum to catch! I'm already thinking on his nickname, or hers, or pansexual."

G tossed her Poke Ball and released the yellow water duck once more. "Come on, Banana. We need to train. This place should have plenty of Pokemon weak to water types and, hey!" She started walking rapidly after the Psyduck that started running into the cave. "Come on, Altair!" She waved back at her partner.

As they stepped inside, G finally caught up to her Pokemon. Bananan didn't seem interested in what G had to say, instead, started looking around as if trying to pick a fight. "Okay, I have repels just in case. Enough Potions for my team or one of yours and of course, two Poke Dolls. You know, in case we run into a similar incident, again." G sighed with a bit of worry in her face, but smiled once again. "Is it okay if we lead for a bit? Banana seems eager to- Hey! Stop running ahead!"

G jogged after her Psyduck, who had started a fight with a Geodude.

"I was more hoping you'd say no...because..." Altair cut himself off before he could continue saying something that the girl would find insulting. He stepped off the ferry and onto the deserted mining island behind G, Togedemaru jumping off beside him.

"It's good to see that you've at least learned something about traveling the wilderness." He complimented calmly as G showed all of her items for the trip, it seemed like the Poke Doll maneuver had left an impression on her. "There's also items like smoke balls, and it seems like ancient Sinnohian...hmm, Hisuian people crafted special items that let them distract wild Pokemon as well." Altair looked down at his phone, as he took a few photos of (possibly) relevant book pages back at the library. He wasn't about to check any library books out and bring them to a dangerous place like this, the last thing he needed was to get fined by a library for damaging a checked-out book.

"Sure, go ahead." The new Pokemon the girl caught seemed to have warmed up to her, that was a good sign at least. Although Altair questioned how well G will fare in catching a Beldum, although he didn't have one of his own (something he often caught flake for as a type specialist due to a certain Hoenn champion perpetuating stereotypes), he knew that Beldum were creatures that did not easily warm up to people...or really had much emotions at all. "Be careful though, type advantage isn't everything." He added as G mentioned how her new Psyduck fared well with the Pokemon that lived here.

"There could be woo-zu...bat type Pokemon too, those smooth woobats here are poisonous too." None of Altair's Pokemon were vulnerable to poison themselves, but as prepared as G was he didn't want her team to have an incident with getting poisoned. Togedemaru jumped up and used his electrifying tail to try to wack a small Zubat circling around G's Psyduck away.

Once the two was far away from any water, Altair looked around to make sure the area was cleared of any wild Pokemon, before pulling out a Pokeball and releasing a small gumdrop-shaped Pokemon. "You good, goom goom?" He knelt down and patted the slightly slimy skin of the Goomy. "Want to take a look around?"

"Banana is so cool!" G walked back to her teammate. Her chest moving heavily as she tried to catch her breath. "I had to return him though, we ran into a pack of Graveler and he was running straight for them! He's crazy. Anyways, I ran back before they noticed us."

G placed one hand on her hip and scrolled to her Rotomphone floating in front of her. "I got some really good pictures though. I'll upload them later. I don't want some fans coming over to try and find me or something. Oh! Goom Goom!"

G walked over to a boulder and sat down, taking pictures of Altair with her Pokemon. "So, Goomy can evolve into two different Pokemon, right? The normal one we all see, well dragon, not normal. But you're looking for an alternative version that has a steel shell? That's so cool! I wonder if any of my Pokemon can do something like that. Maybe my little Puddin can transform into a dragon also! Wouldn't that be cool?" G started editing the photos in her phone. "By the way, I did some digging online. I also asked these Ace trainers that are going further down the mine. They say you can find Steelix here. Wouldn't it be cool if we both caught Steelix and rode them around? I bet it would be a great reel."

The gamer girl took out a Prime Ball, placing it in her side pocket quickly after. "I'm going to try training Spicy now. Are we going deeper into the mines? I think there's an elevator down this road."

Somewhere
Off Route 202, Sinnoh

August, 2
nd

Off-routing was dangerous. Deadly would be an overstatement; however, the further one strayed from established routes, the greater the likelihood that one would encounter Pokémon who were not only stronger, but more unfamiliar with humans. Consequently, they were more dangerous.

Fortunately, the Ranger core ran a tight shift. The wilds beyond civilization were periodically surveyed and had their dangers, inhabitants, and other complications subsequently assessed for travel safety.

The forest up-to and approaching Lake Shikotsu carried an upper one-star rating; a level of danger that a trainer with one or two badges could handle comfortable. It was a bit higher than route 202, but it still much safer when compared to an area like the Bewilder Forest. And it was more than safe enough for Eléonor’s current party.

Despite her lack of badges, the Canalavan's proximity to police-work had toughened her up. A few steps ahead, Cordélia haughtily led the way, the entire swathe of forest ahead Intimidated into supplicative silence. Only the fiercest of Pokémon—those confident in their strength—would approach through her ferocious aura. The others dared not make a squeak.

All-in-all, It made for a quiet walk. She was disturbed sporadically by scrappy Staravia and liverish Luxio but they were hardly her darling Fawfaw’s equals.

More curious to Eléonor was actually,
“Can I help you?”

A glance behind brought Zera and Lukina into focus, the trainer-pokémon pair who had silently trailed behind for who knew how long. What ever could they want?

Lukina observed the skittering of bug types and the wings flapping of flying types that bustle about living their lives to the fullest possible in the wild. It wasn't the first time she wondered what it would have been like to have been a wild Pokémon. She vaguely remembers when she hatched, she was taken care of by humans her whole life. Zera has been hard on her, harder than any she has witnessed from other humans and fellow Pokémon. She recalls all of the training and struggle she and Zera put in together. It likely is much harder than any Pokémon living in the wild has to deal with. Push-ups until their arms collapsed, sit-ups until their stomachs burned, running until their legs could carry them no further, and even more grueling physical machinations Zera came up with. All to forge them with the tempered strength that could conquer whatever stands in the way. Her partner seems to have taken an interest in the new humans given that they are following this one. She however is unsure as to why Zera has chosen to do this but it matters not so long as her name isn't called.

Zera tilts her head slightly towards the direction of the lake off in the distance. "The lake is your destination, correct? If so, it is better not to be alone. It isn't as common it used to be but far more powerful Pokémon have shown up there in the past. It would be irresponsible of me not to accompany someone heading directly into a dangerous area especially since Lukina and I have gone off the beaten path more than we stick to the routes." Shrugging her shoulders she walks a little faster so she can walk next to Eléonor.

"Good job." Altair wanted to catch up to G, but it seems like this time she had enough common sense to hurry back before any wild Pokemon could catch on to her. He looked down at his phone, at the journal about ancient Sinnoh Pokemon again. "Yeah, well, according to these studies, many places have managed to breed or evolve those Pokemon by recreating their environments." He scrolled down a bit, squinting to look at the small text on the phone screen.

"Goom Goom here is Kalos born and raised though, I'm not sure if it'll succeed, since many successful cases are in pretty controlled environments." Altair knelt down and picked up the Goomy that was sniffing around the rocks. He sighed as he looked down at the Goomy, who had a rather blank stare on its face.

"Maybe someday. new variants of Pokemon gets discovered all the time." He replied half-heartedly to G's question. "You could make your Pokemon any type you want...uh, not exactly, it requires some work and there are limitations, but it could make your Snom dragon type, only on a technicality though." Altair was referring to, of course, the terastalization phenomenon. He was pretty sure that's not what G meant though, so he refrained from explaining further. "...And please don't put me in your videos, I don't know if your fans would be kind to me, and I prefer to live my life free from online drama." The young man shuddered as he recalled the week after his battle with Iono back when he was in school, it was truly terrifying, online drama.

"And besides, Steelix eat way too much, and not the incorporeal type of food either." He shrugged at the suggestions, even though Steelix usually eat dirt and rocks, Altair wasn't about to get caught with the collateral damage that type of diet could cause. "Sure, let's head down then, the Gravler probably passed by now, the ground isn't rumbling as hard. I asked some workers around while you were off, they did mention the infrastructure left in the deeper levels."

Altair walked ahead before finding the elevator, or more precisely it was a lift, no handrails or barriers despite being on a sheer cliff face. There was some vague news about the Sinnoh League using them in the past and those eventually being deemed too hazardous. Iron Island, being a mostly abandoned training ground naturally didn't have those restrictions, in fact, they were probably lucky there is a lift at all.

"Come on, watch your step." Altair held Goomy in one arm and reached out the other to G, "Watch your Pokemon too."

The route to Lake Shikotsu was not terribly dangerous; it was close to Route 202 and thus well-within the path of regular ranger patrols. Furthermore, during deep winters, the lake was frequented by festivalgoers attending the Shikotsu Ice Festival. Natheless, Eléonor’s demur persona and social hesitance in no way suggested social ineptitude—perish the thought! She was more than capable of profound insight, more than capable of perceiving the unspoken meaning behind Zera’s words and actions. She believed this was what they called, ‘acting Tsun’.

Eléonor graciously allowed her newest companion’s veil of concern to remain intact.

    “Very well.”
Unlike her former two companions, Eléonor knew not about Zera. She knew not about Ramona or Rincewind either, but comparatively speaking.
“If we are to keep each other in pleasant company, then introductions are the barest minimum!”

“I’m Eléonor, Sinnoh-born. Poké-Stylist and Journalistic Hobbyist. And you?”

"Huh? Oh, you're not in my videos." G accepted Altair's help as they got on the lift. "I wouldn't record you without asking you first. You might be in the background in a picture or two, but so far nobody has asked about you."

G watched as her Rotomphone floated next to her and lit up, showing her Shinxtagram page. "See? You can barely make you out in the back in this one." She pointed at her selfie in the foggy route they had crossed a handful of days earlier. "So don't worry, besides, I don't want people thinking we're hooking up or something. The more they imagine I'm single and available, the more money and follows I get." The streamer shrugged and watched as the lift began to decend.

"Okay, I'm going to use Spicy for a bit, just so she can get some action. Then I will switch back to Bananana. I set up the Exp. Share on Puddin, see?" She tossed the Premier Ball on the ground and the icy larva came out. It wiggled across the ground and up G until it reached her shoulder. The popular antena with small light bulbs around the Snom's body. "Don't want her falling behind while the others get to train."

As the duo reached the next floor, G tapped on her helmet, causing the light to flicker on. "This is so cool! Come on, I want to fight a Steelix!" G jumped off the lift and sent out her Sneasel. "I'm also curious to see a Steel type expert in his natural habitat." She said with a playful tone while looking around and aiming her light on different places. "Oh! Let me know if you see a Beldum or a Lucario."

"Fancy."
Altair muttered as G mentioned putting experience share on Snom. "I didn't have anything like that when I started out...or now." He sighed and looked down at Goomy, who was actually a relatively early capture compared to many of his other Pokemon, but always struggled, and refused to evolve. "Pudding doesn't do much, I assume?" He added, recalling the few Snoms he has seen on Glaseado Mountain. Not many memories surfaced, most of the memories were about running away from Weavile packs and desperately plucking off Delibird feathers to sell off.

As G jumped off the lift hastily, Altair tried to ask her to slow down, but he knew that she likely wouldn't have listened anyways. "And yes...caves...the natural habitat of-" With a burst of red light, Klefki popped out of its Pokeball and gazed around the environment eagerly, then curled up its tendrils in what seemed like disappointment. "-Keys..."

"Beldum? They probably live in areas with more mineral deposits, rather than just rocks."
Altair gazed around, the area that the lift was built on was mostly mined empty of minerals, thanks to the island's former role as a mine. "I'm not that familiar with this place, I'm more of the 'big city dwelling' steel type user than the 'cave dwelling' type." A certain Hoenn champion really did irrefutable damage to the typing's specialists. "Didn't you say you saw a few ace trainers, we should ask people who come here to train more often then."

G nodded. "Sure, we can ask them."

Her mind was more focused on finding an opponent Spicy could take on. Being an ice type, any steel type could be trouble. But, they could definitelly take on any ground types for sure. "If you see any Pokemon Spicy can take on, let me know."

The streamer started walking into the mine, which was just a simple tunnel at first. Then, it spread into a room that seemed to go on forever. G had to take some pictures and of course Spicy was in them, pretending to be doing cool moves while battling. "Say Moomoo milk!" G said as she posed to take a selfie with Altair. "Don't worry, this is for the private batch."

As they ventured along the tracks, the soft sound of music could be heard. Well, soft was the wrong word. The music began to get louder and more, brutal? It seemed to be coming from a small chamber illuminated by some lanterns. The small cavern seemed to hold off the music from spreading but it was still loud enough to be heard by anyone close by. G began to tap her fingers against her thigh as she zeroed in on the origin of the song.

Two trainers could be seen inside, talking amongst each other while setting up a small camp. One of them had a cowboy like outfit while the other looked more casual, except he was wearing all black. As G and Altair got closer, the two trainers finally noticed them.

"Nwyer 'ers 'ted of 'em pokm, hehe." The cowboy said as the music was turned off.

"It's that one chick we saw earlier." The cowboy's partner in black dusted off his hands before placing them on his hips. "Was the music too loud?"

G gave them a friendly wave. "It's never too loud for Disturbed."

"Ah, a fellow enjoyer of the finner music, I see. My name's Haruto and this here is-"

The cowboy stepped up towrads G and Altair and took his hat off, revealing surprisngly smooth looking long black hair. "Ner'm'ma'ev'me, R'ku."

"He said the name his mama gave him is Riku." Haruto replied while he watched Riku shake G's hand and then offered to shake Altair's.

"Oh, I'm G, just the letter and this is Altair. He's like my mentor and friend." The streamer held her hand towards Altair as if promoting a new product. "Say, would you happen to know a good training ground? We're looking for one."

"Ner'yee'ld'... hmmm... 'mp'r'us. Sic'actsem'yasee? Jst'n'tbe'like'olpapa n 'et kenout' byem llin' vlers' hahahahaha" Riku burst into laughter as he walked over to their small camp site.

"He said you could camp with us. Music attracts them so that's why we played it loudly. Just don't get rolled over by Gravelers."

G giggled, "Good one. I think we'll be fine."

"That's how his dad died."

"What?"

"Anyways, if you two want to train, we could use a battle. Two on two sounds about fair, what you say, Altair?" Haruto replied as he began to walk back to camp. "One Pokemon each, student and mentor versus two veteran friends. We're ready to go too."

Riku mumbled something while he drank some hot beverage from a big metal can. At the same time, from above dropped a pink and green bipedal Pokemon. The imp hanged his long arms against the ground and smiled towards G and Altair. The flapping of wings grabbed G's attention though. She turned around just in time to see a Beautifly fly over them and take her spot next to the Morgrem. It seemed that they had their Pokemon out before they even suggested a match.

"Riku says if we win, can he get a selfie with you, G. Says he's a fan and is too shy to ask for one. But he wants to win it properly."

"Did he really mumble all that?" G whispered to Altair. "Sure!" She called out. "Let's go Spicy, I promised you were first."

Sneasel nodded and ran into her spot on the improvised battle field. While G and and Spicy looked confident, the two more experienced trainers looked at Altair. They knew very well they had a type advantage against G, so they were hopping Altair had something to even things out.
