Out of Character

@constellation @shygirl3 @Kingly @Aster @Sasil @Kodiak @Chamomile

Hey all! So these next two days are going to be somewhat crazy for me (no exams or anything that extreme) but it's Veterans Day tomorrow which means I'll be finally 21. So I'll probably be out all day eating my face off because that's what I do all the time. But I just wanted to tag everyone to wish you a safe weekend no matter where you are and of course, happy Veterans Day (although I think constellation, Aster, Sasil, and Chamomile resides elsewhere and there's no break?).

Alsooo be ready to get onstage out of order after Hunter which means (unless you're incredibly busy and you cannot post next, then please let me know via PM or OOC or else it's going to be random) Janet (or myself) will be throwing out names out of order. And if your character doesn't show up, something dramatic will happen (jk).

Anyways, we're almost at the weekend! Hopefully you guys can take a breather then. <3

Edit: PS. I hope no one is waiting on Xavier because I was planning to get him up after Kingly's post. If you need him ASAP, let me know. C:

Have a great time living it up at the young age of 21!! Hope you have a great Bday Pola ;)  It's not Veterans day for us but we have Remembrance Day tomorrow (at 11) so I think its pretty much kind of the same thing, or has the same meaning anyways. Either way I am kind of away from the computer at the moment. I have it with me but I am living it up in the city at a hotel with ot so good wifi that barely holds a signal. If it comes down to it though I should be able to get a response in if need be :3

*breathes life into the thread*

Wow the weekend passed by fast! Thank you for the birthday wishes! <3 I hope everyone had a great weekend. Just a post here to remind that we're all waiting on a few posts and I haven't died, I'm still here. LOL

I know life is getting hectic again now that it's mid November especially with finals coming up for me in a couple of weeks. Please do let me know if you'll be going off the grid for a little bit so we can incorporate how your character isn't able to join us in a few activities. ;D If this does drag out a little bit too long (meaning nothing really happens by the end of this week), I do have a plan to expedite the role play.

So just to spice up the OOC a little, how has everyone been doing? Did anything fun happened during Veterans Day? I had my first drink (legally) and oh god, I should have realize how mixing rum, gin, tequila, vodka, and other liquor would taste together. Not pleasant, I tell you but still drinkable.

@Kodiak I live for Nathan's snarky comments. And omgosh, I love Jane Austen. >.< I didn't read the Zombies version but if you liked it, I have to go buy it on amazon now. :D I've been trying to get myself to read the two books I bought. I think it's called the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. Have you heard of it?

And I completely understand about Thanksgiving. We're all going to be here or there but I hope this thread will be up for the long run so it'll still be here to weather the storm! Thank god for host projects.

I've been doing great! School hasn't been forgiving and I'm way behind on NaNoWriMo. Tis all good.  ^_^  I guess there's no break but we we have Remembrance Day too!

Also, I'm making a male character for another hosted project and I'm worried because I've never played one before.  :/  I'm probably over thinking it but I really want to play this male character well. Do you guys have any tips?

*dusts off some cobwebs, wakes from eternal slumber*

@FirePolaris Hello, FP! I have faith we'll get back up and running soon. :)  It's been a while since my last post. I gotta reconnect with Nathan and get his snarky voice back in my head. I'm sure as soon as he sees Hunter's Magic Mike performance, his lines will just come pouring in!

Jane Austen is wonderful! I think my favorite is Sense and Sensibility. Elinor and Edward are so sweet. Do you have a favorite book? I just had a BBC miniseries vs. Keira Knightley-remake discussion with some friends regarding our favorite Pride and Prejudice adaptation. I'm only two episodes into the miniseries, but I have to say I think I prefer the casting (and gorgeous soundtrack) of the movie (with the exception of the inimitable Colin Firth, who will forever be the one true Darcy). xD  If you do pick up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, just be warned it is a little out there. The prose is all the same (Austen is still credited as the author since most of her original words are used), but the inclusion of zombies makes it a super silly book. I'm enjoying it, but I'm a little odd, I think. Hahaha! There is going to be a Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie soon, starring Lily James (aka Cinderella, aka Rose from Downton Abby, one of my favorite shows ever). Have you seen the trailer? Looks like a hoot!

I started Six of Crows way back when it was released, but never got into it. I love fantasy but the writing in that one just didn't do it for me. I've heard it's great, though! I work in a bookstore and people are just going mad over the sequel. I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

And while we're on the topic of books, I'm always looking for recommendations. My favorite genres are historical fiction and fantasy, but if it's good, I'll read it. Anyone have any must-reads? (I don't mean to derail the OOC thread, but while we're waiting for some IC posts, I'll just leave this here for general pondering). ;)

@shygirl3 Oh my gosh! I never got the notification from when you posted in the IC thread! Just read your post - love it! Abby's outfit is adorable.

@Chamomile Good for you! NaNoWriMo is too intense for me. That's dedication right there.

As for your character question, male characters aren't that difficult! So breathe easy, 'cause you got this. When I create characters (any gender), I like to pick out a few dominant character traits first. If no character materializes in my brain, fully formed, then I check out TV shows and movies with similar characters. I observe how they talk and act, take note of their mannerisms and habits. But all those little things that boil down to who your character is is just personality and motivation. Unless you want to emphasize gender as a defining aspect of your character's identity (like if you're going for some uber-male archetype or if maybe your character doesn't identify as male), then his being male is really more like window dressing. Seriously, read Harry Potter as if Harry were a girl. It makes zero difference to the story, because a girl can act exactly as he did. It helps take the pressure off when you realize that there is no right way to portray a boy or girl or anyone in between.

Not sure if if that helps. Boy, am I feeling chatty tonight. Sorry for running on for so long!

Thank you so much! That's super helpful! I guess I just need the mentality that gender doesn't define the character.  ^_^  I'm just not used to playing the kind of personality and traits that are usually assigned to male characters.

And while we're on the topic of books, I'm always looking for recommendations. My favourite genres are historical fiction and fantasy, but if it's good, I'll read it. Anyone have any must-reads? (I don't mean to derail the OOC thread, but while we're waiting for some IC posts, I'll just leave this here for general pondering).

I would suggest the book series Skulduggery Pleasant! It's a very obscure children's book by Derek Landy (who you might know from his recent trilogy, Demon Road) and more paranormal than fantasy. There's nine books, ten if you count the spin off novelas, and the story becomes more mature and nuanced as you go along. It's got some nice humour, awesome characters (like a skeleton detective) and the only bad thing I could think of is its timeline discrepancies. Plus, a continuation of the series is coming out sometime next year! yeah, i'm practically just promoting this series. i want it to do well, and with a fandom so small...we're lonely  -_-

OH GOD. Magic Mike. LOL My friend has been begging me to watch it before we go to Vegas and watch Zumanity but I haven't had the chance. I got to watch it though because c'mon, Matt Bomer. Sorry that was completely off topic but can't wait to see what Hunter has in store of all of us. I wish I could get Xav on that stage and bust out some moves but heh, he prob would die first.

Sense and Sensibility is great! I think my all time favorite from her is Pride and Prejudice (or maybe I just really like the Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is so spunky). It's just such a romantic love story! I didn't know they had a BBC mini series. I have to look it up. I believe Colin Firth is the reason why I enjoyed watching Kingsman so much. Ugh T^T the movie was just incredible! I haven't seen the trailer for the Zombie movie yet but ...

Just kidding I just watched it and it seemed pretty freaking cool. And hopefully the books are good. My roommate was in love with the first book so I bought both the first book and its sequel yet haven't gotten around reading it. >.< Oh man, I haven't read any historical fiction in so long (other than this one historical romance novel but LOL I am not sure that's what you were looking for). I think a few fantasy novels I've read are mainly paranormal romance by Kresley Cole so I haven't gotten too far with that genre. :< One day though, one day. (Especially since I got a paperwhite kindle for my birthday. ;D So excited to start reading again).

And man, ;D I love OOC talk. It just makes the role play more lively.

@Chamomile I agree with Kodiak. When I started role playing male ( @Sasil Do you remember Ace and Rue? Ace was my first male ever), I was worried that I couldn't get the "manliness" down but I don't think there's a huge difference in writing styles between the two genders. I could probably turn Xavier into a female and the writing wouldn't make a much difference, in my opinion. I feel like personality is probably the most dominant part of your characters and mainly, I role play how my guy friends would act/respond around me. Since one of my housemate is a guy, I incorporate some of his mannerism into my males. Well, I feel like with a few practices, you'll be great at it in no time.

Ps. I will definitely look into the book recommendations. Time to fill up my kindle with novels. Wooo!

Im dying due to final assignments and exams. Still here but I don't have time to get a reply in (sorry Pola ;;;; u'll need to wait a while)

As for playing male characters, the easiest and best piece of advice is to just remember that gender doesn't define a character's personality.

@Chamomile Oh good, I'm glad that helped. If you're more comfortable with characters that don't have stereotypical masculine traits, that's still fine! You can still create a totally believable guy with the traits you prefer without compromising on his guy-ness. But like Aster said, gender has nothing to do with a character's personality. :)  Also, thanks for the recommendation! I've heard of the series but know nothing about it. I'll check it out! It's been a while since I've read a YA or middle grade novel, so perhaps it's time.

@FirePolaris Matt Bomer indeed! I'm sure Hunter will entertain us to equal measure. ;)  I'll check out that Kresley Cole series you mentioned - thanks! Most of the fantasy I've been reading has been epic fantasy, so it'll be nice to read something different.

You've never heard of the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries?? But you must have heard of the iconic scene where Colin Firth (Darcy) emerges from the water in his white shirt... It's made romantic women swoon for two decades now. Hahaha!

@Kingly Yay! Looking forward to your post!

@Aster Hang in there! Remember to take study breaks!

Aaah alright I posted, my bad on the wait and sorry I haven't really been keeping up with the OOC chat. I was just rushing to get this post in what with the quarter ending, I'm still here and paying attention to the thread I just might be absent from some OOC conversations or happenings through your lives so I hope everyone is well. I felt like a tool writing that whole post lol.

@Kodiak //smacked// Omg I have not heard of that but apparently my roommate has. LOL I just watched it on youtube and wow. >: It’s time for me to go and watch the bbc series now.

@Aster You got this! Stay healthy and hopefully things settle down for you. And don’t worry about me! My finals are coming up in three weeks so I’m pretty tied down as well. T^T We’ll suffer together!

@Kingly Omgoodness. HA. Hunter. Oh Hunter, he's always so fun to read, especially since he's probably the most outgoing and comfortable person in the group.

And off I go to write Xavier up and move some things along. ;D

And did we lose @constellation? :( Hopefully not. Come back to us!

@Chamomile I forgot to say this ealier but best of luck with with NaNoWriMo! I've always wanted to do it but never had the determination. LOL.

@FirePolaris I've never finished the BBC miniseries. I haven't gotten to that scene yet, but I'm pacing myself. It's bound to be amazing. xD

@Kingly Your post did not disappoint. I must say, I do like to look at the actor you chose for Hunter's face claim. He was wonderful to hate on Teen Wolf. Hahaha! You had him put on quite a show for us. Starting off the auction strong! Nathan will definitely have words on this. :P

@constellation Friend! Where art thou? I hope life and school aren't too hectic for you, but we miss you terribly!

Man it was so quiet and now its bustling with activity! Great to see though. Wish I didn't have to work so I could enjoy all the banter xD

LOL I actually only watch a couple episodes of Teen Wolf. I actually like the guy in the Arrow because kjakdjf the Arrow is just gorgeous! And I mean he's gorgeous too. And sorry I didn't reply. My friend wanted to go grab in-n-out but I will get an IC post up before I head to bed. ;D Because I will probably procrastinate until never if I don't.

@Sasil Welcome back! I'm just glad it's back to being active again. Lol it's prob going to be quiet during the holiday seasons but I'll be here with my team of monologues! Also, :o I'm going to start on our CS now. It'll be done tonight or tomorrow. xD

I got the post up. Woo!

@Aster I didn't finish the auction because I wasn't sure if you wanted to have Vee interact with more Hunter by bidding (and since Xav sent her a text as well). If you're busy and you want to skip the whole interaction, I can edit my post and we can move onto the next unwilling victim. C:

Speaking of which, did anyone watch Trolls? It was actually really cute. LOL Made me super happy the entire time.

My brain is so mentally crammed with useless facts. I actually forgot how to write for a moment. As for the bidding, idk if Vee would compete with all of Hunter's fangirls. She'll probably volunteer herself near the end of the auction (that is, if I'm free from the shackles of hell by then) but I'll definitely try to get a response in towards Hunter, Xavier and whoever else interacted with Vee.

this is totally out of topic but the face claim for Janet is so frigen hot my heart stops every time I see it. Whoever it is she's 10/10 in my books.

@Aster I believe that's Barbara Palvin. She's a model (of course she is). :)

Just a quick note for everyone: I'll be pretty quiet for the rest of today and tomorrow, but I'm hoping to get a post up on Thursday. I'm not waiting for anyone in particular so I'll just hop on in when I get back! (If anyone is considering interacting with Nathan before Thursday, just hang in there. I'll reply as soon as I can!) Thanks!

Yup! That is Barbara Palvin LOL. She's one of my go to face claims for females since I suck at finding fcs. It's probably the hardest part in making a CS for me.

And no problem Kodiak! I'll be in and out as well. I have a speech to present so wish me luck. T^T I hate public speaking, ughhs.

woah that's one hell of a coincidence. My final assignment for today is pitching for public speaking lol gl to the both of us

Since zak seems to be MIA I'll include nathan in my post so that the plot can develop easier

Oh geez. lol I had a speech prepared and my heart was going nuts. >~< But it's done so lol just one more speech!

Okay! I hope to get a post in tomorrow as I am going to have to head to bed here pretty quick. But I have Thursday off work so I can work on things well into the night and that is what I plan to do! Hope that I don\t cut anyone off I just want Aivree to talk to @ChamomileMaddie at least once since she spoke to her xD
