Adrian couldn’t help but grin at the faces Cas was pulling as he analysed the drink – first scrutiny, then confusion as he smacked his lips together at the taste. He shrugged. “Mm, not much, maybe one when I get off work. A couple if it’s the weekend. Then a little more at social events and stuff. I’m not a big drinker, really.” He said, sniffing as he took another sip. “Teetotal is someone who doesn’t drink at all. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, I mean, people do it for their health or because they got addicted to it. But…”

He shrugged again, patting his chest as he spoke, “I mean, I’m a doctor, and the bottom line is, I think it’s fine to drink, as long as it’s in moderation. Cheers, by the way, dear.” He lifted his bottle and clinked it against Cas’, smirking at his confusion as he drank. “Fancy another one?” He walked over to the fridge, this time pulling out an apple-flavoured one.

Cassidy smirked, "Or because you can't function correctly while drinking it." He smiled, "I'll never drink this outside of this apartment." He vowed, taking another sip. He was growing curious what it was like to be... drunk. Adventure and experiment, Cas? He rationalized it wouldn't hurt to do it here, if anywhere or anytime at all. So he copied Adrian's motion in confusion, the cheers, and furrowed his brows as he finished off his first bottle.

He eyed the next drink curiously, thinking over his decision before taking it from Adrian, "Never got anywhere without being daring anyway."

By the third bottle, Cas had long since developed a buzz, and was now standing opposite to Adrian with the counter between them, in the middle of a story. "So... Theere I was- a balztim in haand, walkiiing along the eedgee of the daam on Zurne in theee Hermedian star system, being chaased by the Zurnemian tribes, my fellow privates all running on this wall, that's noo wiiiider than the leeength of my boot, and has a two-hundreeed foot drop off iinto the water below..." He paused to take another sip, laughing, "A-And we geet to theee other siide, and- and Saal drops hiis pack! Of coourse we keep goiing, despite neeeding the suppliies, and when the natiives get across theey stop chasiing us and take the baag and teear it apart!" Another sip, "They took ouut a cameraa he had with hiim- and just started plaaying with it!" He laughed, "Tuurns out, they wanted our teechnology- but diidn't speeak any language wee knew existed yeet, and so theey wanted to haave iit, and theey just waanted to invite us to theiir village!" More sips, "And we raan, so theey chased us- and iit's a miraaacle no one feell off that daam!"

With a sigh he finished off his drink, using the counter for balance. His cheeks had a rosy tint now, and his face was warm and flushed, "That is onee of my more liight hearted adveentures, of coourse." A goofy smile was stamped on his face, and he had a peculiar slur to his speech. It wasn't normal slurred speech, but while drunk the vowels of his English no longer seemed normal or perfect, like a natural accent was coming through- one that resembled the long vowel patterns in the universal tongue, edging on an Arabic accent with super long drawls of vowels.

Ade leaned over the counter, staring into his love’s dark eyes as he slurred, nodding in vague interest at his story, despite not really knowing the people or the places involved. Over the past hour or so, Ade steadily noticed Cas’ accent as it began to slip into something more foreign-sounding, but also more natural, less prestigious and less forced than his English had been – although Ade hadn’t noticed it sounded forced at all until Cas’ natural accent began to emerge. He couldn’t help but chuckle at his goofy grin as he draped himself over the countertop, enthralled with the telling of his old adventures.

Ade frowned and bitterly flicked his own beer bottle – his third also – annoyed that he had work tomorrow and couldn’t drink more. He wasn’t nearly as drunk as Cassidy was, but the alcohol had made him more relaxed, too, clearing away any apprehension that he might have previously had for bringing up certain topics of conversation – and there was certainly one that’d been gnawing at his mind for a while, ever since his lover had reappeared at his door with a bundle of papers, wearing the same goofy grin. He stretched his arm across the counter and took Cas’ free hand, stroking it gently and waiting patiently for him to finish his last story. When he did, Ade cleared his throat, looking off to the side as he spoke, not knowing what his reaction would be, or how to even phrase such a question.

“Oh, yeah, by the way, Cas? I’ve been thinking about something for a while now, and I wondered if you could clear something up for me…” He murmured, dragging out the question as long as he could, “-And I don’t want you to take this the wrong way, but – I was reading the papers that you gave me, and I’m still a wee bit confused…” He rubbed his neck, biting his lip, “…Why did they bring you back to live with me? Don’t get me wrong, I think this is great, I-I love this, but…I mean…you died, right? There must’ve been a pretty big reason why they’d bring you back.” He said. Besides my heartbreak, he thought.

Cassidy nodded along to the questions, and gave him a dark and somewhat embarrassed smile at the end, looking down at the counter he began, "Well..." He began, trying not to make his answer sound offensive. "It issoo you neever haave kids, Adriaan." With a chuckle he looked up at Adrian, meeting his bright green eyes, "I caan't give biirth, yoou can't giive birth- so theey thoought by putting mee heere, you will noot be doing thee... panzi oo fevvsaa!" (Translation: No pants dance.) He laughed at his phrasing, it had obviously been a joke, and he poked Adrian with a goofy grin, "At least with a lady~" He leaned in, giving Adrian an eskimo kiss, before moving on to the death part.

"Yees... I dieed. Aand I remember iit... perfeectly well." His tone became grim, and his smile disappeared as his eyes sunk to the counter. He visibly became tense, thinking about his otherworldly experience. "A-And it waas just as baad as theey saay- Ade-" He swallowed a hard lump in his throat, "Aand I am extremeely lucky; I aam one iin eighht ageents they have bothereed to twist a tiimeline foor- in seeven hundreed and fifty yeears." Cas made a huffing sound, "I aam your neew wirovita du luchiv ." (Translation: Wire {connected to the word life} your partner. A partner wired/bound to one's life.) He squeezed his hands, "Uuntil you diie, I am noot alloweed to end thiis missioon."

Ade was silent for a while, in deep thought as he peered into Cas’ eyes, which had a hint of gloom to them after mentioning his death. He squeezed his hands back, rubbing his thumbs gently over the other’s palms. I don’t get it. Why wouldn’t they just erase me completely? Or kill me? Or sterilise me? Was this the only way, or were they just being kind to me? He somehow doubted it, remembering getting the chilly reception he'd had from Lydia at the Time Agency. Maybe it was Lydia…? Perhaps she just wanted Cas to be safe and content…? His mind wandered with questions that seemed too stupid to ask, and he shook his head in frustration.

Finally, he mumbled, feeling the alcohol taking a toll on himself as he suddenly felt misery overcome him, “And…and… did you have a choice in this? What would’ve happened if you…refused?” He winced a little as he asked, fearing that Cas’d been forced into being a relationship with him for the sake of a mission. He seemed happy enough to be with him, but deep down he wondered if Cassidy would really be happy living on Earth for as long as it took for him to die, unable to travel, to go on other missions, to be with other people aside from him. He sighed and kissed each hand gently, standing up and starting to clear away the plates.

Cassidy stayed quiet, not understanding why he was questioning his presence, "Whaat's up with yoou?" He looked taken aback, as he stumbled around the counter to Adrian's side as he took care of the plates, "Oof course I had a choice..." He whispered his words now, confused, "I'm noot working for faascists."

The Lieutenant circled Adrian's backside, watching him put the plates away, "You doon't think I'll be haappy here?" He wrapped his arms around Ade's waist from behind, "You obviouusly don't knoow what it's liike to be deead. Liife is a luxury, and yoou are a greeater luxuury." The accent was getting thick, and harder to understand in the slurs.

Squeezing Adrian, he continued, "I meean you're soo warm, and- and it was soo cold. The coloor of your eyees is the most beautifuul color I've eveer seen- it beeats pitch blaack any day."

He nuzzled his nose into his love's back, practically drooling over his love as he whispered, "There is aiir and food here, and I can feel my boody." Cas was squeezing Adrian tightly, and constricting each second, as if Adrian might slip away. "I alwaays knew what waas there when you diie; and all I wished foor was to bee on the coouch with yoou agaain, Ade.."

Ade sighed, moving his hands to touch his love’s as he finished putting the plates away. He felt his eyes prick with guilt – if anything he’d tried to forget the time they had together after returning home, going back to work the next day and forcing himself to go on like normal. When he’d first seen the wispy-haired lieutenant at his door, he was terrified that it was a grisly hallucination, brought back to force him to remember his short, traumatic time in space. To hear Cas say all he’d wanted was to return to see him, embrace him and be with him, he was so overwhelmed he couldn’t find the words to say for a while.

He gently unhooked the lieutenant’s arms from around him, and turned to hold him face to face, pressing their lips together and sharing a long, slow kiss. He pushed a hand through his love’s hair as he pulled away, murmuring quietly, “You know, Cas - That’s exactly what I wanted, too. I just can’t get over how…you’re here, alive, just like that.” He stroked his lightly freckled cheeks, shaking his head slightly. “And that you’re here to stay with me. I guess...It just seems too good to be true, sometimes.” He kissed him again, his hands trailing down his back, taking unique pleasure in feeling the gentle curves and ripples of muscle in his partner.

He smirked as Cas whispered into his ear, suddenly realising that his drunken slur was getting harder to understand. His words had developed a strange cadence and his vowel sounds were getting longer and longer as the evening drew on. Maybe that’s enough for one night, he thought, petting Cas’ head lightly. “Alright, you, time for bed.” He said, with a grin. He put one arm on his love’s back and suddenly swept Cas’ legs from underneath him, picking him up and squeezing him tight against his body. He carried the drunken lieutenant, staggering out of the kitchen area and towards the bedroom. “Christ – Do you realise how heavy you are?” He grunted with a weak smile, leaning over and kissing him on the forehead as he walked.

Cassidy let is eyes droop shut at the kiss, leaning into its luxury as he tried to get close to his partner to escape his thoughts about death and his recent experiences.

With a surprised laugh he clung to Adrian, holding on tightly, "Yees, I have a loot of muuuscles- siiilly." With a grin he nuzzled his nose into Adrian's chest, allowing himself to be carried, "Aam I getting to sleep with yoou?" He asked in a long drawl, kissing Adrian's chest and laughing quietly, hoping to snuggle and feel warm and safe all night.

"Well, I guess you'll have to. I mean, if you don't keep an eye on me during the night, I might sneak out, and then you wouldn't be fulfilling your mission, would you?" Ade joked, turning the corner to his room and dumping his partner on the bed. He wrapped the blanket around Cas, murmuring softly, "I'll be back in a minute."

When he came back, he'd brushed his teeth, combed his hair and was wearing just his shorts. He sat on the bed, setting the alarm clock for the next morning. 8 am start, finally I get to sleep in, he thought, tucking himself in beside Cas. "You know, I can hear a bit of an accent in your voice, now you've had a drink," He yawned, pulling the olive-skinned other close to him. "It's interesting. I kinda like it."

Cassidy curled up in the warm blankets, savoring the soft cushy mattress beneath him, "Yees, I forgot abouuut that. My orders say I muuust sleep heere to waaatch you." He grinned, "Otherwiise you'll run away!" Yelling after him he laughed between words, "I- G-Gotta caaatch you, yooou're gettiiing awaaaaay!"

Cas waited for Adrian to return, and peeked out at his love in confusion, "An aaccent? I do not!" He protested, not wanting to admit his "cover" had been blown. Alcohol had undermined months of training to disguise his origins, and he wouldn't have it. He pounced onto Adrian, squeezing him tightly and sighing, "Do you haaave to leeeave tomorrow?" Whispering the words he frowned, "And foor how looong if you doo?"

"If you don't have an accent, then neither do I." Adrian smirked, taking in a deep breath after Cas seemed to squeeze the life out of him in his desperate cuddle.

"And weirdly enough, I have to work, to get money to feed your new pizza addiction. Since you don't have a job, I have to go in, I'm afraid." He kissed the top of his head, yawning again, "It's a short shift, though - 7 hours. And then I'll probably go the the gym afterwards, and pick up some groceries on the way home. Soo, I'll be back at about... 6pm. Not too bad." He felt a little uneasy in saying it though, knowing that Cassidy probably wasn't prepared to go the whole day without seeing him, and coupled with his tendency to get bored easily and create mischief, he knew it was probably a recipe for trouble.

"But, I have a day off after that, so we can spend time together then. More importantly... what are you planning to do all day tomorrow, Cassidy?" he said, squeezing the other back as he closed his eyes, resting his head on the soft pillow.

Cas snorted a laugh, "I knoow what I'eem talkiing abouut- yoou, not zoo much." The Lieutenant refused to noticed it slipping through more and more as he became more relaxed in Adrian's arms, after all the alcohol, and said with a smirk: "Hyu are imajining tingz."

The Lieutenant pulled the blankets up around Adrian and himself, settling down with a sigh, "I haave a job- and eet does paay... Very weell du. Too bad noot een Ert curreency." He yawned, burying his face in Ade's shoulder, "Maybe I weell go zhopping," He paused to tap his hopper with his index finger, "They deed not taake diz from mee. I caan go grocery zhopping, if you liike. I knoow diz fantaztik markeet een Hoag's Object. That galaxy eez liteeerally the zhopping zenter of de univeerse. Eet'za a ring galaxy- all zhopping outleets and tradiing zenters."

Ade chuckled as Cas’ speech descended into something beyond a drunken slur. He pushed a hand through his auburn hair as he spoke, “Ohh, Mr. Lieutenant, are you drunk? I thought you didn’t like the impairment…” He flicked the Cas’ nose playfully.

When Cas lifted his hand, Ade turned his head and saw the strange wristwatch-like device still strapped to his partner’s arm. He stifled a groan. Oh god. Not that market again. Not more alien food. Not the future. Anything but the future. He had to feel glad that Cas wasn’t offering to take him with him, but he still wasn’t keen on the idea. “Mmm. Yeah, I guess, if you want to. We’ll talk about it in the morning, babe.” He said sleepily, kissing the freckled cheek of his lover and wrapping his legs around the other. “Goodnight, Cassidy.”

The Lieutenant made a 'hmph' sound, and scrunched up his nose at the flick, "Diz eez zo weeird, Ade." He laughed, "If zomeeone buurst een here right now and attacked us-" He hiccuped, "I wooould be at their meeercy."

"Hmm.." Cas smiled with a yawn, eyes rolling back as he shut them, "Alriight, goodniiight szerit du en." (Direct Translation: Love you mine; love of mine). He also settled into Ade's arms, squeezing him gently as he hid his face in his side, and snuggled him closer.

************

Morning came only because the damn alarm clock started blaring. Cassidy sat up, untangling himself in alarm- ready to attack anything that had broken in to kill them. He located the sound, and narrowed his eyes at the clock in confusion, "A-zaa!" He covered his ears, a headache smacking him in the brain at full force, "Oo, oi- oi-oi!" (Direct Translation: No, ow- ow- ow!) He covered his ears, forcing his face into the pillow, "What is that thing? And my head, a-zaa.." He groaned, pressing his palms hard against his ears.

Ade growled, his head also buried in his pillow, and lazily slapped the bedside table, searching for the snooze button on the alarm. He sat up on the side of the bed and rubbed his eyes, wincing in the light that was coming through the blinds. He then turned to Cas, smiling at his grimaced expression. “It’s the alarm clock, so I know when I need to get up to go to work.”

He stretched out his back, groaning loudly as he did so. He then leaned over and kissed Cas’ furrowed brow, which was buried within the pile of warm pillows and blankets. “Ohh, do you have a hangover, little one?” He said with a slight sneer. “I’m not surprised; you were pretty tipsy last night, for someone who’d never drunk before.”

Cassidy heard the sneer and mocked Adrian, peering out at him with a glare, "Ha. Ha. Ha." He snatched Adrian by the shirt front and dragged him down so they were nose to nose, "You're a doctor- so what do I do, if you're that great?" He wore a threatening smile, sneering in imitation. He groaned again, shutting his eyes from the light, "I feel like I'm on a low dose of... vekkil... again." He let Adrian go, and hugged the pillow beneath him, "You're more evil than I am."

Adrian yawned, getting up from the bed and walking out to the kitchen. “Well, you’re right, I am a great doctor, and I know the best, maybe the only cure there is…” He came out again a moment later, carrying a glass of water and some painkillers. “It’s to not drink in the first place.” He whispered into Cas’ ear, smirking.

He rubbed his partner’s head lightly, putting the glass and pills down on the bedside table. He wandered over to the window and closed the shutters on the blinds, before walking off again towards the bathroom. “Try to stay hydrated and take those pills I left if you’re in a lot of pain. You should feel alright by midday, I think. I’m going to take a quick shower before I go to work.” He shut the door behind him, leaving a hungover Cas bundled within the bedsheets.

After the shades were shut Cassidy eyed the pills with mild curiosity, wondering what they were exactly and how strong they were. He poked one of the gel tablets, and narrowed his eyes, "What is this made of? What medication is this?" He turned around to look at Adrian, but he was already gone to the shower. He heard it turn on and chuckled to himself, knowing if he didn't feel so lousy he would do something mischievous to Adrian.

But then again, you have a reputation to live up to, Cas. He downed the glass of water, and one of the pills, and stood slowly. He squeezed his eyes shut at the sharp pain in the front of his head, but continued on. The opportunity was just too sweet. With silent practiced steps, he opened the door- careful to avoid it creaking- and gathered up Adrian's clothes and towel, before sneaking back out and closing the door behind him. He chuckled with an evil grin as he stood with the bundle in his arms. He hid it promptly under the blankets next to himself, as he snuggled up to the soft and warm blankets in Adrian's bed, waiting for his love to notice his mischief making.

Ten minutes later, Ade shut the water off and got out of the shower, combing his hair and brushing his teeth in the mirror in a kind of sleepy trance. As he did so, he reached for the towel that was on the heater, only to find that it wasn’t there. He let out a tiny yelp as he touched the hot metal, burning his fingertips slightly. He frowned curiously, looking around him, before noticing that his clothes weren’t there either. He opened the door a fraction, looking at his partner, who seemed to be snoozing peacefully on the bed, still bundled up in the sheets. Oh, you little bugger, he thought, grabbing a face-towel and wrapping it partly around his waist to cover his modesty.

He leaned out of the door slightly more, still trying to hide himself from Cas. “Oh, Cassidy…” he called out of the door threateningly, “Give me my clothes back.”

Cassidy grinned when the door opened, and at the demand he rolled over to face Adrian. He chuckled, looking him up and down, "Not bad, not bad- for a civilian." Sticking his tongue out he laid there, picking Adrian's underwear up. He spun it around on one finger, watching them twirl above his head, before looking at Adrian as he did so with a devilish expression, "Aliens abducted your clothes."

Ade smirked at Cas and cocked an eyebrow, leaning against the doorframe, “Oh, did they?” He murmured. He folded his arms against his bare chest, careful not to let the towel slip. “Well, perhaps you can tell them that your boyfriend has work in 20 minutes and if he doesn’t get there on time he won’t take you out tomorrow.” He stuck a hand out and snapped his fingers expectantly. “Give them up, Cassidy. Or else.” He growled.

Cassidy stuck his tongue out, chuckling to himself, "If you came over here and got them, you'd be on time~" The Lieutenant didn't want to give in, and he wasn't planning on it. Although, he did get up. He kept twirling the garment, walking slowly towards Adrian with a cheeky grin spread from ear to ear. "All you gotta do is take 'em." Then he paused, and put the garment on top of his head, balancing it and putting his hands on his face, "And besides-" He pulled at his cheek, "How could you be angry at this face?"

Looking at the clock anxiously, Adrian finally gave up, dropped the towel and walked over to the mocking Cas, snatching the underwear from on top of his head before he could pull away. He tutted at the lieutenant, “I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed that you’re so quick to humiliate me.” He smirked, pulling them quickly onto his still-soaked body, pushing past Cas and grabbing the towel from the bedsheets. He dried himself off and looked at Cas, yawning again. “I’m going to have to punish you for that,” he muttered, walking back to the bathroom, towel in hand. As he came back out, he paced forward until he was behind Cas’ back, and lunged forward, grabbing the other and slipping his arms around his waist and digging his fingers into his sides. He wrestled Cas to the floor, tickling him violently and sniggering into his ear, “Apologise, Petar, now!”

Cassidy smirked when the towel was dropped, and whistled to tease Adrian as he slid his underwear on. "Humiliate? Why is that your conclusion?" He chuckled, "Insecure or something?" Mischief and teasing was his forte- and he giggled as Adrian paced away. He stood waiting, and sighed with amusement at the threat, and began to walk back to the bed.

He never made it far, however, as moments later he was attacked by Adrian from behind viciously. After landing on the floor, going down with a bang, he yelled, "Hey- hey- at least buy me dinner first!" He began to writhe violently as he was tickled, and squirmed under Adrian with squeals of laughter, gasping for air in brief moments of relief, "N-No!" He protested. He managed to force his left leg out from under Adrian, and twisted it around his hips, and pull himself with a pained gasp out from under Adrian, flipping the two with a loud bang. He scrambled to become the offense, and strategically positioned himself so Adrian was pinned now. The tough part was the height difference, but he forced Adrian down and laughed at him, "Aw, come on- Ade- I'm trained to deal with being a tickle hostage." He paused, and grinned wickedly, "Just imagine what the people below us think~" With that he nuzzled Adrian, releasing him and jumping up onto the bed, leaning back onto his elbows with the same suggestive expression plastered on his features.

Adrian stood, smirking in contempt that he’d been overpowered so easily. “That’s wasn’t fair,” He grumbled, “You’ve been military trained. You’ve got an unfair advantage.” He walked over to the closet and picked out some fresh clothes, knowing that if he dared scramble for his clothes on the bed he might not get to work at all. He looked at the clock again and groaned. He’d have to wait till he got to work to get a coffee now.

He pulled on his shirt and jeans, cocking an eyebrow at Cas’ suggestive expression and posture. “Why don’t you do something useful, instead of just sitting there looking pretty? He sniggered, nodding towards the door. “I’ve got a chore for you today, you can vacuum the lounge area, since I didn’t get chance last night. Oh, and the garbage cans need emptying.” He stood over the bed, hands on his hips. “Now, do I get a kiss before I go to work, or are you going to steal my teeth or something?”
