Fantasy Original Species

Josef looked up at him with his dark, sad eyes. He knew that if he told Robert the name that he was known to across America he would definitely know who he was "you can call me Joe" he sighed "I'm sorry I didn't bring anything...I wasn't really planning on coming until recently"

"Its fine Joe." Robert smiled, "Welcome to my home, please, enjoy yourself, mingle. All I ask is that you do not cause harm to the others here, we're all peaceful, even the fairies." He winked trying to make a joke, hopefully to lighten Joe's mood, "I suggest trying the Velvet cake Alicia and Kiara made before it disappears like their cookies did."

He looked away from him "I don't really feel hungry" he stepped in, looking around cautiously "vampire..." He whimpered under his breath, his wolf ears pricking underneath the hat "danger" he gulped, scanning the crowd, his eyes stopping on Kirra and Alicia

Kiara and Alicia laughed softly. "Don't worry, Robert," Kiara said with a soft smile. "I won't attack your guests," she said. Alicia turned to Josef and smiled. "Hello again," she said gently, brushing a lock of blonde hair behind her ear.

"Erm...hi" he blushed slightly, his eyes falling to his feet and not looking at her "I came because I thought you'd be here...I'm safe right?" He looked at Robert questioningky

Sage and Isabelle currently on their way, Isabelle carrying a pot of pumpkin and cinnamon tea while Sage has a pot of jasmine and chamomile tea as well. Sage looks at Isabelle slightly. "I don't know about this... I'm going to feel super out of place... even if i'm of a certain blood..." she said softly while walking along side her tall but slim friend. Isabelle throws her hair over her shoulder. "Oh don't worry, Nothing will happen to you. I'll be by your side the whole night so nothing happens to you." she said with a matter of fact tone as she knocked on the door carefully.

Alicia smiled and turned to Kiara, standing by her side. The two girls were almost polar opposites but they got along surprisingly well. Kiara looked up and smiled as she heard the knock on the door. "A witch and a fairy," she said softly under her breath. "Sage and Isabelle if I'm not mistaken," she added as Alicia's lips twitched in amusement. That was one of the things she was looking forward to about getting older, the control over her senses. She'd be able to hear, smell and see things better than she ever could have as a human.

Glanced up at Alicia when she wasn't looking but looked straight back down. It was too crowded here. He felt like his claustrophobia was acting up again and his breathing quickened

Alicia placed a hand on his shoulder gently. "Want to go for a walk?" she asked softly, seeing him begin to panic. Kiara smiled at her before turning to Robert as he opened the door.

He nodded, completely unaware that she had just touched him. Usually no one ever touched him. Usually no one even had the chance "I prefer it outside...in the quiet...where there's fewer people and I feel...more free"

Alicia walked through the house to the back door. She stepped out into the garden and breathed in the fresh air. "Not used to being inside?" she asked gently, wrapping her arms around her waist.

He followed her, relaxing as the cold, night air hit his face and he felt himself again. He shook his head at her question and stood just outside the door awkwardly "did you mean what you said?" He blurted out, holding his hat on with one of his hands, the other in his pocket.

Alicia nodded. "Sure. I mean it'll be hard. You'll have to swear loyalty to the pack and our pack master, but it shouldn't be a huge problem. We look out for one another and it's great to be around so many people who get it."

His face darkened at her last words "get it" he spat on the ground "none of you will get me". He walked off into the centre of the garden and stood staring at the rolling hills. "You're proper shapeshifters, you don't accept halflings like me. The pack never has" he turned to look at her. His eyes had lost the anger they held for a few seconds and returned to his usual sadness.

"We have several halflings actually," she said frowning. "Most of them are the children of our pack but we have a few who aren't. There is a local witch coven, in New Orleans, that a surprising about of shifters end up with," she said with a shrug.

His eyes flitted up to look at his ears and he winced at the site "you don't understand. Shapeshifters don't like me. That's why I run. Because they all want me dead" he turned "I was hoping maybe it would be different" he crouched and started to change "you can follow me if you choose" he said looking backwards "or stay if you don't want to know me. I'd understand" he transformed fully and jumped over the bushes into the dark night.

"Ah, Sage, Isabelle, you made it. Welcome." Robert smiled at them after opening the door, "Ah, I see you brought more of your tea, I am a happy camper." Robert looked at Isabelle and smiled, "You look wonderful." Then he looked at Sage, "As do you, you both look terrific." He lead everyone into the main room, all of the guests seemed friendly enough, but it was still obvious that each kind was mostly talking to their own. Robert frowned a little, "Well... At least we're all in the same room." Robert's house had a collection of various war memorabilia, starting from the civil war, and ending around the Korean war.

"I'm a shapeshifter," she said softly. "And I like you," she said with a soft shrug. "But you know I can't leave. I'm loyal to Kiara. But I think you should stay. You're more than welcome here and you don't have to be alone," she said nervously. "I've never known the pack to turn away someone who didn't want to be there."

He looked at her through the bushes, his eyes no longer black but a startling yellow. Suddenly he felt a jab of pain in his chest and he collapsed forward, changing as he did so, so he fell at her feet, unconscious and vulnerable, in his human form.

Alicia placed her hands on his arms. She placed her arm under his, around his back and lifted him up using her increased strength. "I'm going to take you to my house," she told him softly. "You can stay there for tonight at least," she said simply. "But I still think you should at least meet the pack. They won't hurt you. Our packmaster wont allow it."

-----------------------------------------------------

Kiara was looking around carefully. She loved the history that he had placed around the room. "When were you changed?" she asked curiously. She turned to Robert with a soft smile. She could tell that he wasn't a halfling, based primarily on his scent, but he couldn't idnetify completely when he had been changed. Some time around 1000 years ago, she assumed.

"In July of 1863, I was turned at the battle of Gettysburg so I wouldn't die on the battlefield by a very close friend of mine. A few months later he was killed." He looked at Kiara, "I am ashamed to say I fought on the wrong side of that war, but once everything that was kept hidden from me was brought to light, I quickly changed sides." Robert shrugged a little, "Can't win them all, I suppose."

"There are no right sides in war. Only the winners and the losers," Kiara said with a soft smile. "How did your maker die?" she asked gently, looking at the picture. She recognized him but couldn't place a name to the face. She'd met a lot of people over the last 3000 years of all different species.

"A gold bullet to the head will do wonders against Vampires it turns out, see, the civil war wasn't about Slavery, no, its been mostly erased now, but that war was a battle between Vampires, it was one of our declining moments in history. Those of us who wanted take America in a new, Vamperic Nation direction, The Southern states, and those who wanted to keep what we were from the world to keep America as a melting pot for all races and spieces, the North. President Lincoln is.." Robert thinks for a moment, "3 branches up, and two to the left from me I believe, but he was strong advocate for keeping our secret a secret. The southern congressmen, like Stephen Douglass, they wanted to make us a world power then, by changing everybody and killing off those who disagreed, including other Spieces. Thats why the southern states left so quickly, hell Lincoln just used slavery as a disguise to give reason to the war, Im grateful he did what he did, but history always makes him out to be an abolitionist, he wasn't." Robert shrugged again, "But Im sure you know that, you're.. different... than the rest of the shape shifters. Older.. Much older."

Kiara nodded. "Over three thousand years," she said simply. She wrapped her hands behind her back, and rocked back and forth on her heels. "Immortals were a lot more tolerant back then. Of course we also had slavery and fathers sold their daughters but who said it was perfect," she said with a small crooked smile.
