OOC (Rebirth of Brilliance)

I keep debating on my Charms and changing them around. I need to stop waffling and just make up my damn mind.

Quite honestly dont overthink it, most of your xp is going to go into charms and solar xp for martial arts. (Since I'm guessing you are going to pick up some other martial arts.)

@Skrakes I love that pic.

Actually, I like all the character pictures you guys have chosen. We just need check-in to see where @JayTee is at on his character.

Meanwhile, let's get some of the game rolling. Stay tuned.

I haven't started yet, to be honest. Been busy dealing with my grandfather's funeral. I'll try to get a sheet up for you by tomorrow, evening, though. Sorry for the delay.

Sorry to hear about that. It's nothing to apologize for.

My condolences for your loss.  Obviously, Real Life takes priority.

Yes. Very sorry to hear. Please take your time. We'll work around whatever works best for you.

Got a mechanics question for @WlfSamurai. The following Charm lets me bank successes and spend them at a later time. So if I get, let's say, six successes, do I have to use all six at once, or can I split I it up between different rolls?

Living Shadow Preparedness

Pg 317, 4m, 1wp The player rolls (Wits + Larceny), doubles and banks any successes. Banked successes can be reflexively applied to a single Larceny or Stealth action. This effect lasts until the Exalt sleeps, and can be renewed only once per day.

with the condition of being renewed only once per day and they mention one single larceny or stealth action, seems like you have to use all the banked successes in one action.

There is a charm a bit later on which does help in Larceny to use on any larceny actions , if you are familiar with Leverage roleplaying game  (flashback mechanic kind of deal) forgot the name of the charm but it's in larceny.

Alright, I have the raw stats up. I'll work on backstory and intimacies when I have more time.

The basic idea behind the character is that he's a Sorcerous advisor to people in power, and this has gained him a lot of influence and wealth, which in turn he's going to use to further his own agenda of acquiring power.

Awesome. Take your time. Feel free to allow for some of that to come out in play instead, if you want.

Letting my character develop in play is how I prefer to do things, to be honest. I like starting with a basic skeleton and then growing it from there as the game goes on.

You know that's how I roll. We've played enough together over the years. So, add a backstory when you want or not at all and just leave it open.

The Foundation topic was to make sure I'm giving you guys the game that you want. I'm going to toss up the first chapter thread for play. Before I do, I want to lay out what to expect so there aren't any surprises. Some of you have played games with me over many years. Others haven't.

So, when I run, in my mind, very little of the game is mine. I have never run games with a story in mind. I don't predetermine story. Part of the joy of running/playing is the discovery and play that emerges from everyone's input and ideas. What does that really mean?

  1. ESPECIALLY at the start of the game, but always, I'm asking questions. Your answers are concrete. This is your chance to have agency with the in-play fiction.

    • "Asha walks in. Who is she to you?"
    • "Who are the Blue Cloaks? How did you find out?"
    • "I don't know why he'd run, what does everyone else think the reason is?"
  2. I may ask for volunteers to design story pieces for the game. Antagonists, cities, artifacts. Your designs will be what we play with.
  3. I will turn some of your questions back on you or the group. (See question 3 above)
  4. My mind is open to your ideas or different ideas. This one can be hard because sometimes it can lead to monkeying with the canon of Exalted. Of course, this only happens when it suits us and we agree.
  5. I'm working to play with you, not against you. If I wanted, I could say lava appears in the sky, rains down, and destroys all of Creation and you. The End. That's dumb and boring. Let's play together.
  6. OOC / IC bleed. It's all game. And the game is a big discussion. Let's talk it out together and not worry about silly things like "metagaming" or who knows what when.

I hope none of those scare anyone off. If it does scare you, let's discuss how we can fix it.

Stay tuned for Chapter 1. And thanks for sticking around to play.
