Of Shadows and Swords (Chiarra)

Melody nodded, embracing him softly. "I know you're right," she said. "I just felt so helpless. I couldn't control my own body no matter how hard I tried."

Natalie nodded and said, "I'm glad then." She could tell he didn't want to talk about it so she wasn't going to make him.

Archer sighed and held her close as they walked, shaking his head. "No one likes feeling helpless. But against that man, you have to know that we are helpless." He'd felt helpless when he couldn't save her, but had to flee to avoid getting caught himself, and to try and find a way around all of this shadow magic. Lucius couldn't have fought off two of them.

Lucius let out a relieved breath when he realized she wasn't going to question him again. "How long until first break?" He asked softly as they followed everyone. "I think Melody will need it."

Melody nodded, agreeing with what he had to say. She gave him a very weak smile and said, "Let's just put this behind us. It's over now."

"Soon." she said. "In just a couple of minutes actually."

Archer nodded and pressed a kiss to her temple. "Good. Let's talk about something else. Like where we're going. Or our act. Or whatever clothing we'll make once we're there."

Lucius sighed softly in relief and nodded. "To be quite honest, I think I'll need it too."

Melody's smile brightened up a bit more when he kissed her temple and she asked, "Do you think you could teach me some of those acrobatic moves?"

Natalie blushed a bit before she reached to take his hand in a comforting way.

Archer shrugged a little, making a bit of an uncertain face. "Well. . . We could try, I suppose. It's not very easy. You have to have the right flexibility for it, and a lot of it is just throwing yourself around and hoping you land right until you actually learn how to land right." It would be difficult, and he didn't want her getting hurt, but he could try.

Lucius looked down at their hands and flushed slightly, curling his fingers around hers. ". . . thank you."

((Crap, sorry got distracted and goodnight))

She nodded and said, "We can try." She doubted she had the flexibility and was sure she was going to fall on her face most of the time, but she would try.

"You're welcome," she smiled softly as she walked with him.

((Its okay :) night))

Archer just laughed softly at her determined face. "All right. . . We'll try a few basics when we stop for longer than a night in town."

((Morning lol))

Melody nodded and held his hand. Just then, everyone stopped walking and she guessed it was time for first break. She was glad.

((Ack sorry -_- forgot to reply in the morning. Looooong day at work. Legs hurt. Tired))

Archer smiled faintly at the look of relief on Melody's face and just found them a nice spot to sit down. "You all right?" He asked softly. "I can carry you a while if you'd like."

((Oh it's fine ^_^ . Going to bed right now anyways.))

She blushed at him and shook her head no, "I'm fine." she said, kissing him a little. "I'm just...a tiny bit tired and shook up is all."

((sorry, been with friends all day))

Archer sighed and nodded, understandingly. "I can still carry you, though. Offer's there. . . It'll be all right. We'll just stay inside the barrier from now on, until we can figure out what else to do."

((It's fine ^_^ ))

She opened her mouth to object, but then really thought about it before just blushing some more and nodding. "Okay then. You can carry me." She bit her lip a bit as she looked up at him and then leaned against him softly. She was glad that right now was break time, but soon, they would have to get up and get moving again.

Archer grinned, triumphant, even though it was just something silly and he was giving himself work to do, and put an arm around her. "Good girl. Know your limits, I say. No shame in asking for help."

She blushed again and smiled at him as she curled into him a bit. "At least we are somewhere you won't get into trouble for it," she mused lightly.

Archer laughed softly and just rubbed her shoulder with the hand resting there. "We wouldn't get in trouble anywhere else. We'd just get frowned upon and watched by every person we met, and generally denied service by any salesperson or restaurant we encountered. It's not jail, it's just not easy."

"There is one place," she said softly as she grabbed onto his other hand and looked down at him. "The castle," she whispered at him quietly, so no one else could hear. "And who knows what would happen there."

"A slow and painful death." Archer said, shrugging, and gave a little smile at the positively disapproving look she gave him. "Oh, relax. We're not going back, all right?" But he knew very well that was what would happen should they be caught and the King find out. They would either bother to torture him privately for days, or just leave him publicly in stocks until he eventually died.

"I know," she said. "It's just that....I'm afraid that despite all of this, they are going to find out anyways and...well...he really really scares me."

Archer sighed softly, shaking his head and knowing he should start being more serious because she was afraid. "He's the King, darling. He scares everyone. We know how to evade him. We're not going back."

"It's....it's not my father I'm afraid of," she said looking up at him. It was her supposed to be husband, someone she would have been married to this very moment if they hadn't gotten out of there in time.

Archer scoffed under his breath. "That little whelp? I'd have his -" Tongue on a platter, he thought, but bit down on his own tongue to quell it, not wanting to put such disturbing images in her head and not really wanting to clue her in at this moment to just how violent or vicious he could be. ". . . He's no trouble."

Archer leaned his head against hers, gave only a nod in response, and did not say out loud You haven't seen the real me at all. . . You wouldn't like him.

She was about to fall asleep, just as they started moving again and she sighed softly, starting to get up and forgetting that she said Archer could carry her.
