Of Shadows and Swords (Chiarra)

((It's okay, watching videos of this guy playing animal crossing new leaf because I myself can't play it yet *sigh*))

She nodded and continued eating some more of the berries, but stopped since they needed to save some for Lucius. "Doesn't really seem like a lot does it?" she asked looking in the bag.

((Aww, that sucks. Watching people play is fun, though :) commentary's the best part lol especially in more intense games where screaming happens xD ))

Archer just shrugged. "It's all right. We'll be somewhere else soon, where we can get supplies, and he can just eat there." As he spoke the shell finally began to slowly peek open and fade away, revealing Lucius sitting cross-legged and staring at nothing in front of him. Archer smiled a little, even as he watched Lucius' eyes fade from black to their usual white surrounding dark, dark brown. "Welcome back."

((I bet that is funny lol. But yeah, he is pretty funny. It's enough to settle me over until I can get it for myself lol, but yeah it is fun ^_^ ))

Melody nodded and said, "We can all eat there." She looked as the shell started to fade and she got a good look at his eyes. They crept her out and she was glad when they changed back to normal. "We have berries," she said, holding them out to him.

Lucius blinked slowly a few times, in a daze still, but finally focused on Melody with a dreamy little 'Hm?' sound. He looked at the bag, finally, and nodded as he reached for it. "Thank you."

Archer just gestured vaguely at the bag. "They're all yours. We've eaten ours." Well, that was sort of a lie, since he'd only eaten one, but he wouldn't be the one exerting so much energy. He could eat when they stopped finally.

((Goodnight))

She nodded and smiled at him as she handed over the bag. "What was that ball for?" she asked him, very curious about it. She tried to get the image of his black eyes out of her mind.

Lucius paused, looking almost guilty - because, that was how he'd grown up, of course, surrounded by people so hateful to his kind he'd learned to be ashamed of what he was. ". . . Just . . . practice. It . . . looks strange, and I didn't want to shock either of you when you woke up." He didn't want to explain the way even his skin turned black if he exerted too much energy. It hadnt, this time, and rarely did, but he wanted to be sure.

"I wish that I could rule without having to marry Edward," she said with a sigh. "Then I could make it illegal to hunt your people down and would employ many of your kind to work in the palace as guards. Unfortunately though, that's not the way the world works." She sighed and reached up to touch her shoulders, wincing a tiny a bit as she did, having forgotten about the bruises.

Lucius gave her a faint, grateful but sad smile. "The sentiment is appreciated. . . But legality isn't the issue. . . Making it against the law won't stop anyone from hating us, and I wouldn't make any generalizations about our virtue either. Ravens are no different from anyone else, in that no two are the same. Some are good, and some are bad. . . And because we scare people, the bad is all anyone ever sees, so anyone with a shred of goodness in them can only hide, and wait."

She sighed sadly. "I know, but...still. Maybe with time they could come to realize that," she said. She shrugged and then said, "Well, I guess there is no point dwelling on it."

Lucius and Archer both nodded a little, and Lucius finally got up to his feet and brushed grass off his clothes, done eating. "Shall we go, then? We may as well while the sun is still low and the shadows are deep." It was easier to travel if he had the means to do so at any given point in their vicinity.

She nodded in answer to his question and stood up as well, looking at Archer. "Together," she said, holding out her hand towards him.

((I realize that the together stuff sounds a bit corny but I'm going with it lol))

((lol that's all right. Things need to be corny sometimes))

Archer looked up at the two people standing before him, and finally cracked a faint smile, taking Melody's hand and getting to his feet. "Sap." He said, but without any heat and with a good amount of amusement in his voice that showed he was only teasing her. He did step over to Lucius, though, and took a few deep breaths as he put his arm around the shorter boy. "Let's get this over with." They were going to be at this for hours. He was going to hate it.

((Agreed lol))

Melody smiled and chuckled a bit at him, before walking over to Lucius with him. She held onto both of them tightly, her eyes tightly shut, but before he had a chance to do anything, she asked, "Where are we going anyways, or is there no destination in mind, just to get as far away as possible?" When he answered, she nodded and then held her breath, ready to go.

Lucius' only answer was 'far away', and then they were dropping out of the sun again. They stopped, once every half hour, for Archer and Melody to have light again and for Lucius to sprawl bonelessly on his back and rest so that he wouldn't tire out so quickly. In the end, though, it took almost four hours before he finally stopped them, weeks' journey away from the castle, and almost as soon as they were back in the daylight, he dropped to the ground and fell unconscious. Archer was shuddering still and recovering, but did bend to check on him and sigh. "We're walking it from here. Help me get him on my back."

((Night))

Traveling like this was taking a toll on her as well and it was getting to every time they emerged, she was happy to see the light. When they finally stopped and Lucius dropped, unconscious, and she looked at Archer as he spoke. "We should be safe here for a couple days, couldn't we just stop for the night and let him rest?" she asked. "You and I need it too."

Archer shook his head. "I don't know how going for this long is going to affect him." He said, sighing and kneeling to put an ear to Lucius' chest and make sure his heartbeat and breathings of fed all right. "We might need a safe place to stay. We might need medicine." He was going to need help getting his strength back, that much was sure. "He's going to need easily accessible food and water. . . Come on." He pulled Lucius up onto his back by his arms, then managed to shift their weight around enough to grab the shorter boys' legs and stand carefully. "Chin up, solider, and start walking. We've got to push on just like he did."

What he said made since and they were going to have to find a village nearby. "Okay then," she said and helped him put Lucius on his back. She was worried about the both of them, but more so worried about Lucius. She walked close to them, not wanting to get lost in these woods. "Which way is a town anyways?" she asked as they walked. She hoped it wasn't too far away.

Archer shrugged and just started walking. "Way I see it, if we follow any animal tracks backwards we'll likely find the road they're trying to stay away from, and we can go from there." If they had to walk for a day or two, so be it. They would've had to do that anyway, and he could last carrying Lucius for a while.

((Going to be distracted by movies on netflix))

"That sounds good," she said. "Maybe we can run across someone who can tell us where the nearest village is as well," she said, sounding hopeful, not knowing that if they did they would most likely be bandits.

((Kk I'm distracted by youtube so it's all right lol))

Archer made a little bit of a face but nodded anyway. "I think we'll do fine on our own. I have a good sense of direction, so we'll be fine once I know where we are. In the meantime, while we find a road we can look for more bushes and trees and such to eat from."

((lol ^_^ ))

"Here are some berries," she said, heading over to them and starting to pick. "They look delicious," she stated, but little did she know they were the poisonous nightshade berries.

"No no no no!" Archer rushed over when he saw what she was picking and just hooked a foot around one of her ankles, pulling it out from under her and knocking her onto her butt because he couldn't stop her with his hands without dropping Lucius. "This is why I tell you not to touch anything without me seeing it first! Those things are deadly!”

She was alarmed when he was screaming no at her and screamed a bit as he tripped her to the ground. "I'm sorry," she said, dropping the berries that were in her hands. "I promise not to pick anything else without your approval," she said defensively, wincing a bit as she moved to get up.

Archer made a little bit of a face when she got up, partially because he couldn't help her stand. ". . . Sorry, I . . . Just don't go dying on me now, all right? And don't run off like that again. We're better off if we stick close together."

She sighed softly and looked at him apologetically. "I am sorry," she said. "I'll be more careful, I promise and I'll stick close. You know what you are doing more than me." She stepped up closer to him, to follow closely behind him.
