Of Brick and Stone (open)

(Lol I loved the "Meanwhile in District 5..." xD )

Trent nodded at Derrick idea and finally stood up from the chair he had been sitting at for practically hours. The night before he hadn't slept even a wink, but there were things far more important at the moment than that "I told Relena I was gonna drop by the laboratory . . . Guess that can wait. How about you contact Shotgun and I Aaly?" He took a long stride towards the edge of the large table and pushed a dark blue button. A screen appeared at the other side of the room, right before the wall. There, Aaly's empty room was. Trent raised his eyebrow.

"She's not the morning type of person" He commented out loud, more to himself than to his friend. He stayed quiet for a moment "Maybe I'll go to Relena's after all. Meet me there with Shotgun, would you please Derrick?" He said, and with a goodbye gesture directed to the man, he stepped out of the room.

(Oh cool! I want to see it! :D Hm Maybe email is better? Mine is mariap_2596@hotmail.com ^^)

(Heehee :P )

Derrick found Shotgun setting at a dining hall table with a small group of of rebels that Derrick knew as the 'gunners'. They were the most skilled shooters in Xiii, but what made them unique was their age. They ranged from 16-25, Lila being the oldest. The group of eleven was laughing at a shared joke when Derrick approached, they quickly quieted down in seeing him standing behind Shotgun.

"Hey I need a word with you," Derrick told him.

"Ooo, what kind of trouble did Shotgun get himself into this time?" a boy names Alec teased.

Shotgun sucked his teeth. "I'm not in trouble," he said. Then he turned to Derrick looking a bit worried. "I'm not in trouble, right?"

Derrick motioned to the door. "Let's go."

Reluctantly, Shotgun got out of his chair a followed Derrick out of the hall. He was trailed by a choirs of oooo's from his table.

"What's going on?" Shotgun asked as he followed Derrick down the hall.

"Stop worrying," Derrick said slightly amused. "Trent wanted to talk to you and Aaly about that Halo kid.

When hearing that, Shotgun relaxed. "I think it's a bit to early to catch Aaly anywhere but in her bed." he said with a grin.

"Well then it's a good thing that Trent went to get her. Come on," Derrick said leading Shotgun to Relena's place.

(Okay, I'm sending it right now ^-^)

"You woke up early?" Trent asked as he stepped inside the laboratory.

Aaly, who had been chatting with Maurice, was pleasantly surprised when she heard Trent's voice. If she hadn't anytime soon, she was sure she would've gone and find him, even when Maurice had told her to just wait patiently "I was woken up early" She said with a shrug "So? Have you decided something?" She immediately asked, straight to the point.

"Not yet. First we need to discuss certain things" Derrick should be back soon, guessed he could wait for him to come. Anyway there was another thing that had caught his attention "Woken up? Who is he?" He had noticed the way Aaly had shot a mild glare to the unknown guy beside her when she said the woken up part. Surely, he had been the one who had done so. Trent had never seen him though, and he was not sure he liked him being there at all.

"Maurice" Both, him and Aaly answered at the same time. They looked at each other and Aaly nodded.

"I'm Maurice, Sir. District 6 Rebel" He stated politely.

Well at least he still knows how to be polite Aaly thought to herself. Back on District 1, when they were kids, he was even much more polite than her and Jonathan together.

"Oh. Well and what are you doing here?" Trent crossed his arms across his chest. Not that Aaly was antisocial, but she usually didn't get close to people she had just met. Not if she was not force to though. It had even taken her a while to warm up to both Relena and Shotgun (Her two best friends) if he remembered it well.

"I was planning on talking to you" He answered.

"What about?"

"I am hoping you to allow me to accompany you on your mission. I was told you need a hacker, I am one. A skilled one I assure you" Maurice declared plainly.

Trent blinked, taken aback "I appreciate your straightforwardness, but unfortunately I can't allow you to. Look, I'm sure you'll do perfectly over here and maybe I'll take you out on missions soon but right now you're nothing mire than a stranger here" Trent said bluntly "There is no one over here that can truly say anything about your abilities. The people from District 6 do not count"

Maurice glanced at Aaly from the corner of his eye. She frowned lightly, somehow thinking she was pushing it a little but . . .

"I can" She finally said.

Trent's brows furrowed "You can?"

Aaly nodded "Yes. Trent I know Maurice. He's an . . . old time friend" She judged it was better not to tell him about Maurice having been born on District 1 for the time being "He's really the most skilled hacker I've ever met, even better than Lena. According to what you said we need to enter that place and get out as quickly as we can. He's fast, he'd be really helpful. Won't you consider it?"

Trent narrowed his eyes at the 'old time friend' remark, but before he could say anything else, Derrick had already reached the laboratory and Shotgun was with him. He closed his mouth shut for a moment and turned to look at them. The same thing did Aaly and Maurice.

(Cool! Will read it!)

Shotgun entered the lab followed by Derrick who closed the door behind him.

"Look who I found," Derrick said. "And I see you got Aaly..." Derrick stopped and pointed to the boy beside her. "Who are you?" he asked. Derrick wasn't aware that another person would be involved in this meeting. Derrick couldn't place the face and guessed that he was among the new arrivals from District 6. Why would he have anything to do with this meeting? Derrick looked to Trent, the question in his eyes.

"Maurice" All the three of them answered at the same time. Maurice and Aaly glanced at Trent and he just raised his eyebrow.

"District 6. And he was leaving" Trent stated. Not rudely though just matter-of-factly.

"Right" Maurice nodded and stuffed both of his hands on his pockets "I'll see you later?" He asked Aaly.

"Yeah" Aaly answered. It was better for him to leave.

Maurice bid farewell to everybody and left the room.

"So . . . Old Time Friend, huh?" Trent turned to Aaly.

Aaly shrugged "What I suppose you came to discuss and that are different matters, aren't they?"

"You're really impudent, aren't you?" Trent reproached her, though he kind of knew it would't change a thing.

Aaly looked him in the eyes daringly but didn't say anything in response.

Trent just sighed "Anyway. I guess I should thank that Maurice kid for waking you up, he saved me some time. Leaving that matter aside, we are here to talk about your proposal. Have you got any solid ideas for it?"

"Well. Until when do we have to get his help? Or at least know if he would be willing to?" Aaly asked both Derrick and Trent.

"As soon as possible would be great," Derrick said. "We are planning on leaving tomorrow afternoon."

Shotgun shifted his weight and leaned against the corner of a desk. "I'd say we could call him. but the only number we have is..." Shotgun trailed off, not sure if it would be a good idea to tell both Derick and Tent that they had Crisis' number and that she had called asking for the chips. "No one's. We can't call him so how do we ask?" Shotgun finished awkwardly, earning him a look from Derrick.

"That does pose a problem. The only way to contact him would be to sneak into District 5 and find him." Derrick said, then thought up a better idea. "Or we could ask Relena to find his number. It should be listed in the directory for District 5."

"Sneaking into District 5 is not that difficult" Aaly couldn't stop herself from stating. She had done so before . . . Now she hoped they hadn't make it much more difficult this past month.

"Now you do know about that, don't you?" Trent declared on an accusing tone.

Aaly frowned but bit her tongue to not say anything rude in response. She gritted her teeth a bit. Couldn't they just forget about it! She shook her head.

"We can do as you say" How would be even react if she told him about Crisis and the chips? Either way, Nate might as well spill it all out. Agh! She glanced at Shotgun. Even him had almost reveal it and she knew he didn't mean it.

Shotgun shifted his eyes away from Aaly's, embarrassed by the slip up. "You need us to go to District 5 and speak to him?" Shotgun asked. If Aaly had suck in and out of there without any problem, Shotgun wasn't worried about getting caught. And he didn't mind speaking to Halo as long as he didn't run into Crisis. That girl really got in his nerves.

"It is true that getting his phone number would be the easiest" Trent nodded "However, I don't want there to be any chance for them to somehow be able to hear the conversation. What if the higher Districts manage to get hold of the line? For that matter, I would actually prefer it if they spoke face to face" He admitted. "How much would it take you to get there?" He turned to Aaly and Shotgun.

Aaly shrugged "If they have not improved their security system, not much. A day maybe?"
(Oo! Just got to read your email. I loved it! There's is just this one tiny thing, Maurice was actually born on District 1 :> He and Aaly met because their parents used to work together. Hurray! Kind of excites me you're writing this Rp xD )

Derrick nodded. "Okay. I'll have a car prepared for you. It should take you to the border of District 5. From there you two will have to figure out how you will be traveling the rest of the way. Also, you'll have to go in unarmed. And it would be wise to change your appearance, the name of the game is to fade into the background."

shotgun nodded, the wheels in he head turning, forming a plan. "Okay, we're ready when you are."

(Oh yes, I'll fix that. And I'm glad to hear that :) I'm going to be uploading the chapters to wattpad.com, to get feedback and editing, if you want to follow the story.)

"Ok" Aaly nodded but some wild idea popped into her mind "Can I talk to you for a bit Trent?" She asked.

Trent tilted his head, brow raised "Wait for us here" Trent turned to Shotgun and Derrick and walked out of the laboratory, followed by Aaly.

"What?" Trent demanded as he looked at the rebel girl in front of him.

"Hear me out, okay?" She stated first.

Trent frowned at that statement "I don't like it when your speeches start like this" He complained a bit.

Aaly took that as a 'yes' "I know you doubt Maurice. But what about this? Let him come to District 5 with us"

"Have you gone mad?" He said, raising his voice a little "If you truly believe I'll follow each of your commands then-"

"I told you to hear me out!" Aaly insisted, scowling as well "Look. I know you don't trust newcomers. And I'm aware of the fact you don't trust my 'Old Time Friend' thingy. But it's just going there. That way he'll show you he's capable of going in a mission with us. Also, I can even take a chance and believe, the past events had caused Districts to improve their security systems. Let's get real. Neither Shotgun or I are particularly good into hacking on systems or things like that. Let him come with us. I assure you, that if he come to need him, he'll be of help"

Trent really wanted to turn down her offer. He really did. However, what if she was right? What if he would come in handy for both of them? He didn't want to sound cold hearted. But he found it safer to just send Aaly and Shotgun alone. He didn't want to risk the lives of any other of 'his' Rebels. Nevertheless, this Maurice guy was not for him to truly take care of. If he died, if the mission turned out badly for him, Trent well he . . . wouldn't regret it as much.

"Ask Relena for one of the green pills. If necessary you'll make him swallow his first before swallowing yours" He bluntly declared.

Aaly clenched her fists but nodded "Fine. As Shotgun said, we're ready. We don't need new PIC implanted, do we?"

Trent shook his head "Not really. Some of you had managed to get into District 5 without needing one. You just need a disguise or something like that. Your hair, for instance, do not help at all"

"I'll discuss that with Relena as well. Maurice does not particularly need that" Aaly remarked.

"I understand. Whenever you're ready come to meet me. I'm sure Derrick will have your car prepared by then"

Aaly nodded and turned on her heels to return to the laboratory, she caught Trent's back from the corner of her eye as she entered the room. He was walking away, maybe he had some other things to take care of.

"Are you sure about this?" Shotgun asked. "I mean, the guy did only join yesterday." The young rebel was looking himself over the the reflection of a window. Relena had chopped all his hair off and now he sported a nice low buzz cut. Definitely not what he was use to. Shotgun sighed and turned to face Aaly. "For all we know he could slow use down, none of us has seen him on a field mission yet." he pointed out with a frown. Aaly had informed about her plan to have Maurice join on the mission; it was safe to say that Shotgun was less than pleased with it. Shotgun lowered his voice. "Besides, he doesn't know about our past with Halo and Crisis. What if he finds out things that are better left unsaid?"

Aaly, who had been looking at her now dyed black hair, looked up at Shotgun "I just want to give him the chance" She stated.

"Though, I do see Maurice as a good guy, Shotgun is right. What if he slows both of you down? You haven't seen him in what? Years?" Relena commented as she did Aaly's hair. She didn't want to just dye it black, she wanted to have the chance and comb it.

Aaly scoffed "Well, why don't you give him a chance? I trust his hacking skills to say the least. What if we need some intelligence work? Do you seriously believe that we'll be able to handle the tech like . . . Say Relena does? I, for instance, know the basics and a couple of other things. But I'm not fast. Either way, Trent asked me to give him this" She pulled out the green pill Relena had gave her a couple of minutes before.

"Are you okay with that?sending your 'dear childhood friend' to his own death" Relena frowned.

"If he fails. I believe he won't. Have a little of faith, both of you. Anyway, that's what he wants" Aale argued.

"What do you even know about him Aaly? Didn't you tell me you and him were District 1 prince's childhood friends? What if he works as a spy for him or something like that?"

"I used to be Jonathan's friend as well. I even used to believe myself in love with him" Aaly snarled "What about that? Doesn't mean I'm his spy or something like that. That's exactly what I hate. When people thinks just because we were born on District 1 we cannot go against it. You are just paranoid. I'm just trying to give a friend a hand"

"Okay, okay, settle down," Shotgun said grinning. "Nothing to get worked up about. If you want him to come, he can come. You say he can be trusted, then I trust him." Auguring with Aaly would get him no where, and he hated it when she was mad. So if he had to put his feelings aside about Maurice, then he would. "But know this, the second I even get the slightest whiff of betrayal," Shotgun folded his fingers into a gun and pointed it at the bridge of Aaly's nose. "It one between the eyes." Shotgun pretended to pull the trigger then lowered his 'gun'. "Where is Maurice anyway?"

"It's done!" Relena said with a smile as she stepped back from Aaly. Her black hair was shinny and fell in loose curls. Aaly's hair was straight, but Relena always thought that wavy hair fit her face as well "I know you prefer your usual hair color. So I only used a temporary dyer. It will fall off with the proper chemical, which, of course, I happen to have here with me" She dangled a small bottle in front of her "Here have this" She tossed a tiny box which Aaly caught in mid air "You can't go around with a red eye and a blue one, can you?"

Aaly smiled at Relena and then turned her small grateful smile to Shotgun. She appreciated it, the effort that was.

"I'll go and look for him. Trent told me to go and meet him when we were ready, so would you like to wait for us there?" Regarding the betrayal thing she couldn't help it but grin "One between the eyes, huh? Who? Me or him?" She joked before she took a long stride to the laboratory's door.

"What a girl," Shotgun sighed to himself as he watched Aaly leave.

"You want to go where?" Obsidian asked alarmed. To her surprise, Jonathan and Sebastien had showed up at her hate about fifteen minuets ago. Now they were in the garden discussing Jonathan's crazy idea.

"District 9," Jonathan said. "Lux aid I could spend some time away from home until the finish the clean up on our house. But I just can't shake what Prosper said. I just need to talk with Sahara.

"And what makes you think she will talk to you?" Obsidian asked. "You may have been able to speak with her when she was a princess. But she is a queen now. And on top of that, you are not her favorite person." Obsidian giggled at that.

"I think you're confused, Sahara is on good terms with me. Now as for Sebastian..." Jonathan grinned as he turned to his friend.

Sebastian sucked his teeth. "It happened three years ago, she really needs to get over herself."

"I bet you would never say that to Sahara's face," Obsidian giggled.

"We're digressing," Jonathan interrupted. "All I need you to do is cover for us. If anyone ask, say we were here the whole time."

Obsidian's face fell. "You don't want me to come?"

"Of course I do Sid. But you can't, people will get suspicious if all of us are not here."

"And they wont if you just show up at the District 9 palace?" Obsidian asked.

Jonathan opened his mouth to reply, but then closed it. She had a point.

"Have you two think this through?" Obsidian questioned.

"Of course we did," Jonathan said turning to Sebastian for support.

"Come to think about it, this did sound better in my head," Sebastian admitted.

"Thanks," Jonathan said, slightly annoyed.

Obsidian rolled her eyes."How about I call her instead?"

"We thought about calling her. But if Lux checked the call records he would wonder why I'm speaking with her. And I don't want him to know I still looking into this after he told me to drop it."

"Well that's why I'll call her," Obsidian said. "If my parents look, I'll just say that I wanted to see how she was fairing with her new title."

"District 5? Why would I want to go to District 5?" Maurice complained a bit, though he was allowing her to lead him all the way to where Trent was supposed to be. One would even think he was the same as Aaly, he was complaining just for the mere sake of it.

"Oh, shush. I'm doing you a favor here, ok?" She said, slightly annoyed.

"Ok, ok. Calm down. I get it" He rubbed the back of his neck as he looked up at the ceiling "And should I get a disguise as well?" He took one of Aaly's loose curls between his fingers softly "Black does suit you. Now I'd say I prefer your straight hair. The curly one reminds me of the old days" He admitted as he gently twirled the strand of hair on his index finger.

"Forget about that" She sighed as she tilted her head to the side, pulling her hair away from his grip "Just, be careful, okay? I'm really putting myself on the edge with this. Don't disappoint me"

"Have I ever done that?" He placed his hands on his hips, a smile settled on his face.

"I haven't heard anything from you in 8 years" She stated.

"Touche" Maurice nodded "Anyway, don't worry. Besides I have this little friend if anything goes wrong, have I not?" He raised the green pill.

"Yeah well. It would be better if you avoided to be force to take it" She declared as she stopped in front of a door "Come in"

"After you" Maurice said with a smile.

Aaly just hoped they had everything sorted out already so that they'd be able to leave immediately.

When Aaly and Maurice entered the room Derrick was finishing up telling Shotgun and Clara, the one who would be driving them to the border, about the mission and what he expected. In seeing that the last two members of the party had arrived, Derrick smiled.

"If you have any questions you can ask Shotgun, I don't feel like repeating myself. Try not to get yourselves in trouble," Derrick said. "This is Mauric's first mission, show him the ropes, yeah?"

"We're ready to go," Clara said.

Derrick nodded. "Okay, everything's all set. Ready when you are."

"We're ready" Aaly said with a nod as she glanced at Maurice. The taller guy just nodded his head in agreement. Aaly felt a bit encouraged and allowed herself to smile a little as she followed Clara out of the room.

"Nice cut by the way" She finally commented as the three of them walked down the hall "Short, huh?"

Shotgun smiled. "It'll grow," he said running his hand over the stubble that use to be his hair. Slipping into the car, Shotgun moved to the window seat to make room for the other two. "District 5 huh? You two excited?" Shotgun's parents had died in District 5 on a mission that went south. He was told that it was painless, they were both shot in the head. Died instantly. But that didn't make it any easier to swallow. Shotgun avoided missions to this district because of that, but he really needed to get over his fear. But he was nervous to go into the district where his parents took their last breath, not that he would ever admit that.

(My first time playing with Sahara!)

Thirteen and ruling a whole District. You'd think that that would make people stop treating you like a child. But no! Everywhere she went, people were asking 'do you need help with that?' or 'do you understand?' like she was some type of imbecile. But that wasn't as bad as the looks of pity people kept giving her. Prin-- no! Queen Sahara had half the nerve to fire half her advisers. And a few of her servants. Like this fool who had interrupted her decorating to tell her that she had a waiting call.

"It is from District 5 My Queen," the female servant said, eyes never leaving the ground.

Sahara looked down at her from her position on her bed. In her hands were stars of all sizes that she was placing on her ceiling."Who is it?"

"Princess Obsidian of District 5, My Queen."

"Obsidian?" Sahara had med Obsidian three times in her lifetime, each was pleasant. But She couldn't imagine why she was calling. "What does she want?"

The servant looked taken by surprise. She quickly straightened, eyes staying downwards, and fumbled for the right response.

"My greatest apologies! I didn't-- I mean I should have-- I ask her right away why she is requesting your audience!"

"At ease," Sahara said hopping off her bed. Her father use to say that all the time to calm his subjects. Sahara grabbed the cell from the servant. "Thank you."

The servant bowed and left.

Sahara placed the cell on her nightstand and a hologram appeared from it. She instantly frowned.

"I wasn't aware that you would be accompanied by your feance, and his guard dog."

Obsidian giggled sheepishly.

"It was three years ago!" Sebastian snapped. "And I apologized, how are you still mad!?"

"You should teach your dog respect," Sahara said smugly.

Jonathan turned away to hide his smile.

"You find that funny?" Sebastian asked.

Obsidian cleared her throat to bring the attention back to her. "We wanted to ask you a question. But! It is a secret question."

(Wow. She's so . . . princessly like xD )

"Haven't been there in years" Maurice commented plainly, shrugging. He then laid down his elbow and rested his chin on top of his hand while he closed his eyes.

Aaly understood Shotgun a bit more than her friend. She was aware that his parents had died there and that he was not pretty much fond of that District himself.

"You just say that because maybe you'll get the chance to see Crisis again. That Rennels girl sure swept you off your feet, didn't she?" She stated jokingly as she fiddled with her fingers.

"Tell me again why this has to be so hush, hush." Sahara said. Jonathan had just finished telling her about his thoughts on how the royal deaths were connected. To be honest, Sahara didn't see it. But the topic was interesting enough to get her attention.

"Well, I am not sure..." Obsidian trailed off looking to Jonathan.

"It's not really a big deal. It just, my brother told me to leave it to him. I don't want him to feel like he can't trust me."

"That's interesting to say considering that you are going behind his back." Sahara pointed put.

"Will you help?" Jonathan asked changing the subject.

Sahara thought about it for a moment. "I'll look into it," she finally said. "And trust me, if it does happen that Xiii is behind this, they'll have to answer to me."

"Oh yeah," Shotgun said jokingly. "I think she's my perfect match." he then rolled his eyes. "I'm just hoping she isn't there when we find Halo. If I never see that girl again, that would be just fine with me." Shotgun then turned his attention to Maurice. "It seems like everyone is turning their backs on District 1. Now, I understand Aaly's reason for switching sides, what's yours?"

Aaly looked up at Maurice and almost immediately she glanced back down. She had an idea. Because now that he was back, old events she had long forgotten came back to mind. It even made her feel ashamed of herself, because back then she had come to accept how things had turned out just because most of the people told her it had been fate.

Maurice didn't bother to open his eyes when he answered.

"My parents were killed right before me by some District 1 officers" He answered plainly. It was as if he was just making any normal remark. As if he was talking about the weather or something like that.

Shotgun gave Maurice a sidelong look, trying to read him. He failed. "Sorry for your lost. Do you know why they were killed?" That was District 1 for you, no soul. Someone who grew up there must know that better than anyone. But this guy seemed so... distant? Shotgun couldn't put his finger on it.

Maurice blinked a couple of times before he glanced at him. He remained quiet for a bit and strangely enough Aaly felt uncomfortable with the silence. As if . . . As if she didn't want to hear what he was about to say. Her lips quivered and she raised her head, just to find Maurice's gaze on her. Her brow's furrowed and she opened her mouth, no words coming out.

"The same reason why Aaly's parents were killed" He stated in a monotone voice.

Aaly's eyes widened and a small noise escaped her lips. She narrowed her eyes and her puzzled look turned into a glare.

"My parents died in an accident" She declared firmly.

Her friend raised an eyebrow

"Now, you know that's not true" He commented.

"Yes, it is"

She . . . She always thought something was off concerning her parent's death. But how could she think they had been killed by those they had too kindly worked for? For those to whom they had invented so many things? For those to whom they did so much, to the point of being absent for much of her childhood? They were admired! She refused to think otherwise, even if she just made a fool out of herself with that.

"It was not an acci-"

"Shut up, Maurice!" She exclaimed menacingly "Shotgun was just asking about your parents so zip your mouth if you're going to talk about mine"

Maurice scowled a little and he sighed

"As you wish" He raised his eyes to Shotgun "If they were to switch sides they were going to be a threat"
